- Hol1308650 contributionsBest cooking school in Chiang MaiTruly the best cooking school ever! From start to finish it was just an amazing experience. They organised transfers there and back for us, which picked up and dropped off right outside our hotel. The half day cooking school was fab, wish we could have stayed longer! The grounds of the cooking school was just beautiful, and we loved being able to cook outside in the lovely stations. Lavang our chef; made the whole experience for us tbf, they had us all laughing throughout the day, and taught us so much about Thai cuisines. You can see the attention to detail that went into ensuring the guests had a wonderful experience! All the food we made was delicious, we were so full after leaving! We are a couple backpacking and there was a mix of different people on the trip it was great! Hands down best experience, if you’re debating whether to pay and choose grandma’s cooking school, definitely do it!!Written September 29, 2024
- Chicoofruit0 contributionsFunIt was such a fantastic experience to us! We chose to find out more about Thai food and picked the one that introduced Northern Thailand / Lanna cuisine. We were picked up from the hotel on time. We first stopped at a market to get an introduction of the key ingredients. At school, Chef Best gave us a tour of the secret garden and we picked the herbs and vegetables used in the dishes. We also took the eggs from its chicken house to make the grilled omelette. We made Thai curry paste and sausages from scratch and cooked dishes in a traditional pavilion with charcoal stoves! Chef Best is really patient and nice. His instructions were clear. We have learnt quite a lot from Best, and the food was very delicious👍🏼 The ground is pretty, green, spacious and calm. The facilities are clean and set ups are good. There was a lot of food cooked and we enjoyed our food in the pavilion in front of the garden. You may want to pack away some or skip dinner! Highly recommended!Written September 13, 2024

- ZenKimchi0 contributionsThorough crash course on Northern Thai cuisineI really wanted to focus on Northern Thai food, and this class delivered. We started at the market, where everything was explained clearly. Then we traveled to the gorgeous campus and cooked over charcoals we lit ourselves. Our chef-teacher took us through the grounds to experience all the herbs that you can't find outside of this region. And we retrieved fresh warm eggs from the chicken coop for our omelets. We made a good many dishes, including packing our own sausages. We had a lot of gorgeous and intensely flavored food. Bring your appetite!Written August 15, 2024
- noemicK1654BD0 contributions100% recommended!Noi made our experience top! The food we made was delish, even more than the actually food we bought in Thailand since we arrived!Written August 14, 2024
- 819christiannev0 contributionsGreat cooking experience in beautifull surroundingsOne of my favorite things we did in Chiang Mai! Our lovely instructor Joyzaa was patient, funny and really nice. She had so much knowledge, I learned a lot and I’m cooking Thai food for many yrs already. (Ofcourse still the Dutch way) We cooked together in a groep of 4, with 2 kids (17, 14 yrs). The courses were all very different and really good. Besides this all they have a full farmer garden with all kind of herbs and chicken. And the whole set up of the different cooking areas give you a professional feeling.Written August 5, 2024
- David W0 contributionsBrilliant Authentic 4 Course Thai Cooking Class!Myself and my partner booked Grandma’s Home Cooking School last minute, the team was extremely friendly and willing to accommodate us, picking us up from our accommodation. (As well as dropped home) The class consisted of 4 courses, ranging from soup to some fabulous curries. We also had the option to choose which dish we’d like to cook. Myself and my partner opted for a green and red curry respectively. Safe to say we were not disappointed! Our head chef was a gentleman called Toffee. He was a great teacher, keeping the class engaging, informative and most importantly of all fun! Highly recommend to ask for Toffee if you’re thinking of doing a class!Written July 9, 2024
- U1690EWanaa0 contributionsInformative and interesting, especially for beginners!Started off with a tour of a market by a very knowledgeable chef named Tay. Then went to a scenic, peaceful garden setting to cook our choice of meals at a well prepared cooking station. Help and advice were given every step of the way. Recommend this 100%, even though I'm not a cooking enthusiast.Written June 22, 2024
- marvelysl0 contributionsAmazing time!My kids and si had an awesome experience. The farm is beautiful and peaceful, lots of trees, and a kind team to guide you through the farm and class. - 618breezyh0 contributionsAmazing Cooking Experience! This cooking class was amazing!!! We toured around their organic farm, which was beautiful and very peaceful. We made 3 delicious dishes on a covered outdoor pavilion. It rained while I was there, but we were very protected under the pavilion, and the class just continued on. It was a magnificent location! Our teacher demonstrated how to make each dish for us, then watched as we went to our stations and made our own. They patiently offered advice and suggestions, as needed. After making each dish, we sat down and ate what we had made. So tasty! Vegetarian and vegan options were readily available and accounted for! Everything was fun and very tasty! The staff made us all mango sticky rice for dessert as well, which was very kind! Plus, they gave us a link so we can download all the recipes we made, and some that we didn't! I highly recommend this class! It was such fun, and I'm so excited to go home and put my new skills to work in my own kitchen!Written June 10, 2024
- jaybulckaert0 contributionsSo worth it.Such a wonderful experience. From pick up to drop off, it was laid back but run with total precision. The organic farm was like a lush little oasis, market was cool, Patty (host) was amazing and lots of fun. 3 meals and 4hrs of learning and cooking was 110% worth the minimal cost of the experience. Left with full stomach and heart. Thank you!Written May 28, 2024
- andreabP280 contributionsSuch a beautiful day, and I learned a lot. Absolutely loved the experience! 🇹🇭✨👩🏻🍳An amazing experience, filled with learning about Thai cuisine, local ingredients, and more. I found it to be one of the best ways to immerse myself in Thai culture and appreciate its uniqueness. If you're a foodie, this is a MUST-DO activity.Written May 6, 2024
- jpierro220 contributionsAmazing and Delicious Food and Experience! We started by getting a tour of the actual gardens where the ingredients that we would be using were grown. The tour guide gave us some information about each ingredient before letting us taste them raw as well. We got to try things like pepper, basil, and lemongrass. We then went into the main building where each of us has a spot to cook with all of the necessary items. Before we started cooking, we got to choose a drink. I ordered a butterfly pea flower tea, which was tasty and refreshing. We then made our first course which was the soup. I made chicken coconut soup which was delicious. The coconut milk made for a nice creamy flavor along with the chicken. Our second course was the curry, and I made chicken kao soi. This was chicken with noodles and was also very tasty. After that, I made chicken Pad Thai, and just like every prior course, it was amazing. We made so much food throughout this course that I was way too full to finish it all. Lastly, we ended by making dessert: mango sticky rice. This is one of, if not the most, popular desserts in all of Thailand. I do like mango, but rice for dessert was a little bit strange. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience. The hosts were very knowledgeable and friendly, and even gave us the ability to customize certain aspects of our food such as spiciness or sweetness. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Thailand.Written April 14, 2024

Super super cool day! I had no expectations for the day, but was very pleasantly surprised. We started by going to the market, where our teacher told us about the many different ingredients the Thais use in their food. Then we had a trip to the school's vegetable garden, where we were also told about all the different plants and collected eggs from the chickens. The school was in the finest surroundings and the whole day was well organised. Our sweet teacher, who was also amazing, was also super good at communicating and explaining in English and taught us how to cook many different dishes. I would definitely recommend this cooking class if you are going to Chiang Mai!

Today we were lucky enough to experience the whole day cooking class at Grandmas home cooking school, our instructor Joy was amazing and funny, we learned to make the best thai dishes I've ever tasted and learned alot of handy tips along the way. The local market was a great experience and farm experience was wonderful Joy talked us through the vegetables and herbs they grow, they're smells and flavours, the farm surrounds are just beautiful.
The whole day was the best day we've had in chaing mai yet, it was informative and relaxing. Amazing food and company!

Great if you are looking for a cooking course. Transport very well organised. You first go to a local market where you will be given a good explanation about different products. You then arrive at the beautiful grounds where a welcome drink awaits you.
Then you go to the herb garden where they make all the products fresh. Instructor very professional. I recommend the full day.

This was the highlight of my trip in Chiang Mai. Loved every minute, from the serene garden, the well organized cooking class, humorous cooking instructor, organic farming ingredients, and a trip to the local market! It was such a great experience! And the dishes we prepared and ate were delicious! Can’t wait to cook them at home!

I normally wait until after my trips to write reviews, but this one couldn’t wait! I attended the all day cooking class with my family on October 14th. I had such an amazing time at Grandma’s Home Cooking School! First off, our instructor, Joy, was AMAZING! She was very knowledgeable, funny, and great teacher! I would highly requesting to take the class from her!
The overall experience was a very memorable one. We did the all day class. The shuttle picked us up from our hotel and took us to the market to meet up with Joy. She walked us around explaining the different ingredients we would be using. Next, we took the shuttle to their farm. Joy showed us around and educated us on different ingredients that they grow and we’d be using to cook our meals.
I made papaya salad, spring rolls, coconut soup, pad thai, mango sticky rice, and what I’m most proud of...Panang Curry from scratch!!! It was such an amazing experience and they even gave us a link to all the recipes. I would highly recommend this class!!!

We had an amazing time with chef Gobby today! The pick up and drop off were on time. The class had a good pace, Gobby was patient and interactive. This was by far the best experience of any workshops or classes we have had in Thailand. The farm and workshop environment were very scenic. The food we made was amazing. Strongly recommend.

This cooking class is great ! Its done in a nice big place/garden outside of Chiang Mai (pick-up and drop-off is included), in open-air pavillions. Before going to the farm, you visit a small "market", which seems to be a "tourist market for cooking classes" and not a real market used by locals. But that was no problem for us, as we have been to many other authentic markets.
On the farm, you take a stroll in the garden, and see how lemon grass, chilies, aubergines, tumeric, galangal etc. is grown. That was very interesting for us.
You then cook in open-air pavillions. Several tasty thai dishes, very well explained, and its great fun. You can choose between 2 options for each course, and there is also always a vegetarian variation, so everybody should get happy. What I like: you cook 1-3 dishes and then eat them, before continuing to cook (instead of cooking everything and then just eating all at once). It is for most people (us included), too much food.

Today I did the full day cooking class with Grandma's Home Cooking School with friends and we all had the best time! I would highly recommend it to anyone coming to Thailand looking for an authentic, fun, educational and delicious experience. Rachael was our guide/teacher and she was wonderful! She was so knowledgable, helpful, friendly, and funny.
The tour picked us up from our hostel within the half hour time frame we were given (between 8:30-9am) and we headed to a market outside of the city. Rachael walked us through the market explaining the ingredients we would use and also how to pick out the ingredients ourselves/what to look for if we want to replicate the dishes at home (and what proper substitutes are). We then had time to browse on our own. Next we went to Grandma's Home Cooking School which is an absolutely gorgeous property.
Rachael walked us through all the different crops on the farm and explained how they are used in Thai cooking. We learned so much! Then we got to cooking - we were given our menus and had the option to select which dishes we wanted to prepare for the first three courses. My one friend is vegetarian and she was able to select all vegetarian options. Rachael demonstrated how to prepare the meals step by step. We made three courses, starting with a soup, then curry, and finally Phad Thai. At the end we were given mango sticky rice. Everything was delicious! They let us take boxes home of the food we weren't able to finish (we were so full). We arrived back around 3pm with transport directly to our hostel.
