- arusans0 contributionsMarinka Waterfall Adventure in MincaBreathtaking experience at Marinka Waterfall in Minca! This trip was well-planned from start to finish. The journey to the waterfall was an adventure in itself, with stunning views of the lush mountainside along the way. Upon arrival, we were greeted by our amazing tour guide and took another ride in a 4x4 to arrive at the entrance of the waterfalls. The sight and sound of the cascading waterfall – truly a sight to behold. The crystal-clear water was refreshing, and swimming in the water was an unforgettable experience. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, enriching the excursion with his tips and took us to a fantastic restaurant for lunch. He provided us with everything we needed for a successful excursion. This trip exceeded all expectations and left us with memories to last a lifetime. A must-do for anyone visiting Minca!Written May 6, 2024
- B4634AOstefans0 contributionsTotally worth it!I booked this tour on short notice (one day in advance), and it turned out I was lucky because it turned out to be a very beautiful day in Minca. I had expected a group tour, but I had my guide, Mario, all to myself. Right when we met, he first stated his intention to do anything to make this an enjoyable and carefree day for me. And he was serious: Before even starting the tour, he asked me about the hotel I had booked for the night and let me know that I would not be able to drive there with my rental car as I had planned (impassable dirt road). He creatively solved that issue for me by dropping me off in the evening, arranging a moto-taxi, and picking me up again the next morning at the same spot. Mario went far above and beyond what I would have expected. Having put this obstacle aside, we started the tour, visited a coffee farm, waded into a pool near a waterfall, returned for lunch, and then spent time on a cocoa farm. Mario handled all the demonstrations by himself, explaining the processing steps clearly and letting me pick the beans from the bush and taste them at different stages. Besides this, I also enjoyed on the way being pointed out typical plants, discussing local lifestyle and culture, and meeting his friends on the way (he knows everyone in Minca). As the cherry on top, we were lucky to see a Toucan from nearby, which is rare. It was a really interesting and fun day!Written December 26, 2023
- Jeff C0 contributionsAmazing timeWe were picked up from our Hotel. It’s only a 45 minute drive to Minca with amazing views along the way. Mario was an excellent guide with lots of stories and humour. The first stop was coffee making with Gonzalo. He was very young and knowledgeable and delivered the information with good energy. The water fall was great and a very welcoming swim in cool water after a hike through the heat. The chocolate part of the tour was very enjoyable with amazing flavours and a nice surprises.Written November 9, 2023
- chrisrW4810XM0 contributions100% recommend! We had the best day in Minca. Taxi picked us up in Santa Marta. Then, we met our host. Gonzalo gave us a great coffee tasting and brief history that was informative and delicious. Mario was our guide, he helped with the English translation during the coffee tasting, then took us for a hike to go see the waterfalls. It was awesome. Mario is very friendly and knowledgeable. We had so much fun. We then, came back to town and had a fantastic lunch. After lunch we got a cocoa tour, everything was perfecto. We recommend this tour 100%.Written November 3, 2023
- lauramJ5584EQ0 contributionsGreat Visit To Minca With Waterfall and TastingsThis tour includes a coffee tasting at a coffee shop, a walk to a beautiful sacred waterfall, lunch in town and chocolate education and tasting at a hostel. A great sample of Minca. I was the only English speaker on the tour, Mario was my translator and he was really wonderful. He was engaging and friendly, positive and took great video and pictures for me, he went above and beyond! He made sure I was comfortable and as a solo traveler who speaks minimal Spanish, this was really wonderful. Communication with the tour operator was also wonderful and they organized my transportation from Santa Marta with ease, I had a great driver, too. The waterfall was amazing and the highlight of the trip. One of the guides brought his sweet dog who is likely a rescue and unfortunately, traumatized with some separation anxiety, the dog was barking the whole time we were at the waterfall. Otherwise, this was a superior experience!Written October 8, 2023
- Elmadahjen0 contributionsExcelente Tour!Nelcy and Federico were extremely attentive and awesome. We got to learn from the culture from Minca and all of the majestic of their nature, wild, and ecosystem. The lunch and cocoa workshop was amazing along with the waterfall and the motorcycle ride. It was one of the highlights of my vacations in Colombia and I highly recommend this tour if you are visiting Santa Marta or any of their nearby neighborhoods. Gracias Nelcy por todo y por quedarte con nosotros contándonos mas de Colombia! Looking forward to return!Written August 8, 2023
- 952lilas0 contributionsExcellent tour if you’re staying in MincaWe had a blast on the tour! Cristina and Federico were warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Going to the swimming hole was lovely, as was the chocolate experience. We had some issues with communication at the beginning (possibly because of Trip Advisor?) and didn’t end up getting picked up in Santa Marta. Would highly recommend the tour but make sure you arrange transportation to El Mirador Ecoturística in Minca where you’ll find the hostel Tovar Extreme Adventures runs out of. Bring a bathing suit and quick-dry towel and enjoy!!Written July 7, 2023
- Y6638KUlaural0 contributionsBeautiful dayMy husband and I had a great time learning about how the coffee and chocolate are processed while enjoying the amazing views. We loved the hike to the waterfall and taking in all the nature around us. I have never seen bamboo that size-it was majestic. The staff was super friendly and offered a lot of great information about the area. We ate lunch at a local restaurant and it was delicious. Loved our time in Minca!Written June 15, 2023
- RoseannaM_120 contributionsWonderful tour for familyThis was a wonderful tour. Our guide Christina is a lovely human who shared so much information. We were traveling with our 2 and 4 year old and she was so kind and engaging to them. First we did a tasting of coffee at a cafe with an amazing view. They then kindly modified the tour since it was only us to an easier hike for the kids. It was just the right amount of adventure and a nice private waterfall. After that we did lunch in Minca and then back to the cafe for a chocolate presentation. The kids loved getting to make their own chocolate and eat it. I would highly recommend.Written April 15, 2023
- TracyMcMo0 contributionsAmazing tour - cruise stop at Santa MartaThis is an absolute must do! This was my husband and my favorite day on our 12 day cruise. We had a port stop in Santa Marta and were able to get picked up right by the cruise port. We were running super late (port authority was way late letting the passengers off) - and I was able to get Christa's whatsapp # ahead of time - recommend getting that and downloading whatsapp if you're coming on a cruise - so we were able to stay in touch. They waited for us and were very accommodating. We got in a few vans to head up to Minca (there were 3-4 cruise families with us which was nice). The drive up was pretty and took about 40 minutes or so. We stopped in downtown Minca then jumped in Jeeps to head up a crazy bumpy road to some waterfalls. We hiked up a very steep hill to reach the waterfalls. You had time to change and swim in the water for about 45 minutes. Beautiful. Bring bug spray though - I'm not joking when I say I probably got bit 100 times - they were not itchy but the bites swelled up crazy. After the waterfall we came back to a local restaurant. The food was great and was nice to be in a local restaurant. My only comment would be - the food was hot and so were we. Soup and hot food would may have better be replaced by more of the wonderful smoothie they had. I also wish we had a bit of time to shop in the charming downtown area, but that may have happened if we were not so late getting off the cruise ship. Next up - we walked through the town to this amazing hostel with an incredible view. We sat in this beautiful open air area to learn about cacao beans and coffee. We learned so much, got to try samples of chocolate and coffee and had some great laughs as people didn't like the bitter cacao beans :) The views are beautiful as well. They arranged transportation back to our port. Christina was amazing - so professional, informative etc. The other folks from the tour were wonderful as well. It felt so authentic and we learned so much. Felt like we were really immersed in the Colombian culture. When we got back to our cruise, so many people complained that they had a bad day on the cruise excursions and we (almost) felt bad bragging about the incredible, memorable day we had! :)Written January 9, 2023
- Matthew R0 contributionsBest experience in Colombia so farThis tour is WELL worth the money. An activity packed day. You get to visit a local coffee farm which is in a beautiful location, and you get to see the process of how it is done. The waterfall is super refreshing and a ton of fun. The chocolate making workshop is at the most amazing viewpoint as well. Shoutout to Christina, our tour guide. She explained everything so well: the history, the flora/fauna, and did not rush us at any location. 10/10, favorite experience in Colombia so farWritten December 28, 2022

An incredible bird watching tour for birders and novices, alike. There are so many birds in this region it’s unbelievable and our guide Tony can identify them all via sight and sound. At the midpoint of the tour you get to stop and have some coffee or chocolate at an incredible viewpoint where you can see for kilometers. You can just sit relax and watch the birds as they fly to you. We saw lots of toucans which was very fun. Also, the binoculars the tour provides are excellent. Highly recommend!

Incredible experience thanks to Gustavo our guide who knew how to tell us where to look and what we saw at all times. The path to the viewpoint is quite simple and suitable for all audiences. They provided you with binoculars so you could observe the birds well.

Birdwatching is amazing, definitely one of the best things to do in Minca. Learn from us though, don't book through trip advisor, just get it directly from jungle joe at his office in minca, it's literally half the price of this online one!

Had an amazing bird watching trip with Antonio Martin
He is an ornithologist and biologist and is incredibly knowledgeable about the birds in the area. He was able to identify them by sound, find them and point them out which really added to the day
Fidel was also really helpful and accommodating
We had a fantastic day

We were picked up at Tayrona but it would be better to stay at Minca

Hi there, is this suitable for kids older than 6 years old? Any chance of booking a tour later in the day?

Hi. I have just arrived in Santa Marta, staying at Casa La Issabelle in Santa Marta today. I would like to attend the 3hr bird watching tomorrow morning (friday), How best do we get to the start of the tour in Minca for 6am? And would binoculars be available that I may use?
Look forward to hearing from you or any advice possible. Many thanks Emma
