- 1This authentic hiking experience will provide a fascinating insight into this unique and primeval landscape of an Irish bog or peatland. As we journey through time, we will explore how the bog (or peatland) was formed, its myths and legends, an ancient monastic site and traditional turf cutting. We will also look at the unique biodiversity of the bog and its role in the fight against climate change. In addition we will also see green energy in action as we ramble through this dramatic landscape. Enjoy panoramic views of the Wild Atlantic Way of Inishowen and West Donegal.

- GillM7330 contributionsA wonderful experience!I loved every moment of this trip. Sharon is very knowledgeable about the area having grown up here. The scenery was breathtaking ❤️Written September 30, 2024
- Michelle M0 contributionsWalking with Sharon in DunreeI did a walk with Sharon as part of the Inishowen walking festival. My first impression of Sharon was that she is very friendly and informative. The walk was suitable for the age group out that day. Although the weather was typically Irish Sharon made it very interesting. She spoke of the folklore from there and growing up in the local area. She also gave a great wee chat on the bog and the benefits of it for the environment. I’d definitely consider doing her bog safari someday. Definitely will be keeping an eye out for more events with Sharon.Written September 17, 2024

A great way to discover the wild beauty of the North West. Sharon's knowledge of the locality is second to none, as she points out historic sites and tells you all about the local flora and fauna along the way. Can't recommend these hikes highly enough - just be sure to wear a sturdy pair of boots!

Sharon is an outstanding guide!
She has spent decades traversing County Donegal and much of North West Ireland. Her depth of knowledge, ability to scale our walks and attention to safety made for an outstanding experience.
We always felt safe, engaged and thoroughly enjoyed our walks along the Wild Atlantic Way because of her.
She's also great craic to boot!

Thoroughly enjoyed this hike, guided by Sharon who knows the area and its history like the back if her hand. It was amazing walking right through the wild, vast Donegal landscape you usually only experience from a car window.
The bog with its scattered remains of ancient oak trees and the breathtaking views once we got higher up is something I highly recommend.

I spent 2 wonderful days exploring the stunning landscape of two areas in the hills of Donegal.
Sharon provided an incredible personal service with well planned routes and her extensive knowledge of the terrain landscape and history of the areas.
The Living Landscape hike was challenging at the start but lead to stunning scenery and wonderful displays of purple heather.
The holy well of St. Eigne and the Grotto are not to be missed as also the "magic road"
The Wild Atlantic Way Mountain Lake hike started at the beautiful Lenan strand and we walked a mix of mainly heather covered tracks to discover the amazing hidden lakes.
The stunning Atlantic ocean views along the way were absolutely incredible
A truly memorable couple of days with Sharon to whom I express my admiration and gratitude

Sharon was the perfect guide. She shared her expertise in botany, ecology and history, helping us learn about the magic of sphagnum moss and other plants that we saw on the way. It was her deep personal connection to the bogland and her anecdotes about her own family that made the hike so special. We were very fortunate to have spectacular weather during the hike, and she gave us ample time to take our holiday snaps. The route is a pleasant mountain walk through miles of bog wilderness, which you often have entirely to yourselves. Thank you for an unforgettable afternoon, Sharon. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys hill walking.

Sharon was a fantastic guide making this an extraordinary hike . I learned so much. The landscape is beautiful wild and empty, a stunning remoteness in every direction.
Learning about the different mosses , sponges and lichen of the bog was amazing. In the strangest way looking and learning about the Micro -topography reminded me of diving the Great Barrier Reef ! To learn of the bogs role in sustainability and carbon sequestering was truly fascinating. We studied ancient pieces of bog oak up to 8000 years old. I can highly recommend the Bog Safari, for adults & children alike. So informative and extremely interesting. A must do on any trip to Inishowen. Thank you Sharon for a truly rewarding adventure.

Sharon is an excellent guide with many years experience of making the most of the Hills of Donegal - and further afield. She always makes the walks interesting and has great knowledge to get you to all the hidden gems. She can cater for different levels of ability always putting safety first. Sometimes the last hike to the summit can be tough but Sharon's enthusiasm ensures you get there. But there's nothing like the sense of achievement and the taste of that cuppa at the top. It all adds up to having memorable days and meeting great people.

The bog safari was the perfect blend of walk and talk. Sharon Porter has a deep knowledge and deep passion for this landscape. Her desire to care for and respect Ireland's bogs is inspiring. She is such a delight to be around and she cares about teaching others how precious this landscape is. I would highly recommend Sharon and her bog safari!
