About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Burtwistle_Crew0 contributionsIreland and Scotland with a personal touch! We traveled to Dublin, Ireland for the AerLingus Football classic featuring the Nebraska Cornhuskers. While we were there we spent two weeks touring the rest of the Island and also venturing into Scotland. Connie was able to pick us up at the airport and drop us off two weeks later. In the meantime she handled everything in between. The accommodations were spot on. We gave Connie a list of the sites we wanted to see and she didn't disappoint. She also suggested other sites of interest we might enjoy. From the Cliffs of Mohr to a round of golf at St. Andrew's we thoroughly enjoyed our tour. If 50 person tourist busses aren't your thing, we highly recommend Emerald Isle Tour. Connie will help you see and meet the REAL people and culture of Ireland.Written February 6, 2023

She picked us up in the morning and drove us about all day. With stops when we wanted and provided us with the history of the areas we were interested in. It was the best day of our trip. She faces us excellent service. Thanks Connie for making this trip so special!Written September 23, 2018
- LYNN H0 contributionsBack to our Roots!Connie was such an enthusiastic, helpful , and personable guide for our tour of the Antrim Coast in Northern Ireland! She pointed out some amazing points of interest for photography and history. She customized our time to fulfill every moment and made it a memorable experience! I will definitely request her services again next time I visit Ireland and will recommend her to my friends that are planning their visit to this magical island.Written September 14, 2018
- V5948IRjenniferh0 contributionsOur week in IrelandIncredibly happy with the help and support we got from Carmel and her company. Every booking went well on our week from Belfast to Giants Causeway to Donegal to Dublin. They secured a driver for us for the week. We had 10 people and quite a bit to organize for us. No hiccups and we highly recommend.Written August 11, 2018
- mrsquail0 contributionsOur first trip to IrelandWe landed in Ireland at 5am and Connie was there to meet us! At 5 AM!! We were hungry so Connie found a place that we were able to sit and enjoy a nice breakfast. This was our first visit to Ireland and we were more than a little overwhelmed. Connie made us feel like we were part of Ireland! We are the kind of folks that like the non-touristy stuff. Connie showed us things that we never could of found ourselves. She knows Ireland!! We were able to enjoy the ocean, the light houses, the culture, the music, the road blocks (aka sheep), the green pastures (oh my the greens!), the dancing, the language, the history, the traditions, the cathedrals, the wall steads, the religious persecution, the holy water wells, the mass rocks, Our Lady of Knock (on my favorites list for sure!), the list goes on and on. So many memories!! Connie even went the extra mile to get us to Fanad Light House at midnight to try to see the northern lights, twice!! We saw a flyer about a rally race that was happening during our visit and mentioned it to her. Not only did she make it happen but she found the perfect place for us to view the rally race! We had so much fun! I have been asked what my favorite part of Ireland was and my answer seems to change each time. The history touched me deeply. Connie knows so much about Irelands history! It was all so interesting being right there listening to her. It was fun listening to the locals but sometimes Connie had to translate for us. How lucky for us Connie is an Irish translator too!! She would stop whenever something interested us and give us our time. We spent a couple days by ourselves in Dublin. Oh Dublin! I love the street artists! She took so many pictures of us and for us for our albums. Truly a professional by every aspect! We had the trip of a life time! Thank you so much Connie!! - Cassie H0 contributionsPlease do not waste your moneyWhile Connie is semi-knowledgeable about Ireland and can make you an itinerary, you will save yourself thousands of dollars by planning the trip yourself (which we found out too late, unfortunately). Our trip included a tour guide (which was made to sound like an outside company but is actually Connie, herself), hotels and attractions, and an itinerary. We paid well over 5000 USD- after adding up the exact amounts of each hotel and attraction, our trip would have cost 1,427 USD. To say we were appalled to have paid Connie around 3,600 to drive us around and make an itinerary (a stand-alone itinerary costs 350 Euros according to her website), would be an understatement. Please, save yourself the money and plan your trip yourself or get a stand-alone itinerary.Written August 25, 2017
- James B0 contributionsThe Ultimate LayoverWe were faced with an 18 hr layover on a return trip from Prague. We contacted Connie(Emerald Isle Tours) and we were not disappointed. From the time she picked us up at the airport till the time she brought us back we were treated well. She was waiting patiently at the airport, even though our flight was delayed. She gave us a mini tour on the way to her cottage. We were able to experience an authentic local Irish Pub complete with live entertainment and interaction with the local Irish folk. Her home was clean and very comfortable. The next morning she was able to tailor a quick tour of Dublin and surrounding area, to fit our agenda. She returned us to the airport with time to spare. Connie is very personable and able to give you a perspective as an American with a true love for the Irish culture and it's people. If experiencing the "Real" Ireland is your goal this is your Tour!Written July 20, 2016

- Tomwat5550 contributionsWonderful tripMy wife and I and another couple planned on spending two weeks in Ireland. Having used a private guide in Scotland with great results we wanted to try that in Ireland, and I am glad we did. We gave Connie some specific things we wanted to see and left everything to her. She arranged the entire itinerary, accommodations, dinning suggestions, attractions, etc. Her great love is the unbelievably beautiful west, so we saw things that most visitors would miss. She managed to balance our different interests and energy levels with great patience and humor. She spent 100% of her time for the entire two weeks trying to make sure we were enjoying Ireland (and that I had wifi and in room coffee). I had a great time and highly recommend using Connie as a personal guide.Written November 3, 2013
- sistertwo520 contributionsTaste of IrelandSince we were flying home through Dublin from a European tour, I convinced my husband to stop and spend 4 nights in Ireland. It has always been on my list but hubby was not interested. He certainly changed his tune after the wonderful experience with Emerald Isle Tours. Connie was fantastic as a personal guide, doing everything to accommodate our short stay and to give us the flavor of Ireland. We covered many miles and because of Connie’s flexibility had many wonderful spur of the moment experiences. Great memories!! Thank you, Connie and we can’t wait to go back. Emerald Isle Tours put together the perfect day trip for me and my friends. For me it was very personal, discovering roots I learned about recently through Ancestry. Connie knows Ireland so well, and the area I wanted to see like the back of her hand. We went to places I'd never have seen with any other tour company. She came a fair distance to pick us up and bring us back so was a long day for her. She was very generous with her time and her stories and was a delight to spend time with and get to know. I would book a tour with Emerald Isle Tours again in a heartbeat!

I would like to say that initially I was overwhelmed with planning a ten day trip to Ireland. Figuring out where to stay and what to see is a difficult task. One made even harder by the fact the country I was visiting I had not been to before and was across the ocean.
After visiting with Connie about the time frame, budget and what my interest were she came up with three different itineraries for me to review. Each one had notes to what might interest me in each town or geographic area I would be visiting. Along with that information there was the great insider tips included, great places to eat, local bars and why they are famous as a few example. I really appreciated the prompt responses to my questions and the firm’s openness to combine a couple of the itineraries together so that I could get the most out of my trip. The best thing about these notes was they were tailored to my individual tastes and helped me to maximize my enjoyment.
During the trip Connie was in constant contact with me to see how my trip was going and making herself available to me for questions or advice. As someone who works in the sales and service industry I cannot say how much I appreciated this level of professional service.
All the lodging was located in the areas I wanted to be in. Each location was expecting us when we arrived I did not have one reservation issues in ten days or in the nine separate cities I visited.
When the time finally approached for me to leave for my trip I was totally at ease all the planning had been done and the tinier was customized to exactly what I wanted to do. I did not have to worry about anything. This was the best trip I have ever been on and I believe Emerald Isle Tour had a big part in that.
If you are considering a trip to Ireland take a moment and speak to Connie at Emerald Isle Tour and let them handle all your reservations so you can enjoy your trip as much as I did. They truly will give you a completely customized experience while visiting Ireland.

Hi Brian, Many thanks for all the kind words! :) Planning / organizing your custom self drive tour was a pure pleasure and so glad to see that you were at ease with every aspect prior to and during your tour as that’s what we strive for! We’re also equally as glad that you enjoyed your stay without stress and that your overall experience met your expectations although … I do recall one phone call in the midst of your visit saying to me that I should have warned you that the entire island is like a postcard :) .. my apologizes! lol You’re welcome back ‘home’ anytime!
“May the Irish hills caress you, May her lakes and rivers bless you.
May the luck of the Irish enfold you and May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.”
All the best, Connie

There are so many positive things that I could say about Connie and Emerald Isle Private Tour but I will try to make it brief and to the point.
Connie and I emailed back and forth for months. This was my fifth trip to Ireland and I told her what I really loved about Ireland, what I had never gotten the chance to see, what I wanted to see again and my love for shopping in Ireland. Together we planned the perfect trip. She even helped me with suggestions of hotels for days when I wasn't even with her.
I was able to see so much of the countryside, stop whenever I wanted, tons of once in a lifetime picture taking ( double rainbow ), see things only the locals knew about. This was so much better than being stuck on a bus all day where you are limited about stopping and always worrying about time and getting back to the bus in time.
The tour was very comfortable, it was like seeing Ireland with one of your really good friends.
Connie really knows her stuff and she truly wants to make your trip as memorable as possible and she will go above and beyond to make sure that happens.
I plan on booking with Connie for my next trip to Ireland and every trip after.

Emerald Isle Tour Review:
This review is based upon my experience and is broken into the following categories; planner, driver, guide,(services provided) summary, and recommendation.
Planner:
PROS: Will do your holiday planning based upon your input of sights and activities you desire to do. Planning in done geographically allowing for reasonable daily routes. Flexibility provided with individual planning and customized tours.
CONS: Inability to accurately determine opening times and schedules. Often was told that the website listed different opening times (when arriving at a sight early) or different opening dates (when a sight was all together closed). After hearing this a few times, a cursory 30 second Google search led me to clearly published official information matching those encountered at the sights themselves. This lack of planning caused for unnecessary travel or missed opportunities to visit sights (ones that clearly said they would be opened with prior coordination on official websites). Was told that Emerald Isle Tours only booked in 3 star and above establishments. The majority of establishments were very good, yet on one stop Google clearly shows that the hotel class was 2 stars.
Driver:
PROS: Ability to drive stick shift (reminder that it’s a left handed shift, and the steering wheel is on the right side of the vehicle)
CONS: U-turned multiple times a day, due to inability to read signage or follow direction clearly given on the GPS being used. Often would come to complete stop in the middle of the road during periods of indecision. Irish drivers, on at least a daily occurrence, would be frustrated with having to deal with our vehicle on the road. Often would start planning the route to the next location (ie Google the route) while driving, which often added difficulties (in-lieu of planning ahead)
Guide:
PROS: Is familiar with Irish culture
CONS: Lacks detailed knowledge and lacks the ability to clearly articulate typical guide ‘knowledge’; to the point where it detracts from the overall experience. An extreme example was told that the Jameson Distillery is now located in Dublin, and the Cork location was simply a museum; the exact opposite is true, the Dublin location used to be the original distillery and is now a museum. This led to us visiting the wrong sight.
Summary:
I enjoyed and would recommend Ireland. However, the overall experience with Emerald Isle Tour was less than pleasurable.
Recommendation:
If you are absolutely unwilling to do basic planning and drive on the opposite side of the road, they may fill your need. Otherwise do the basic work yourself and have a more enjoyable experience.

Hi SapperTraveler, however glad I am to see the pros in your review, I’m equally disappointed in seeing the cons as we strive to make everyone’s visit to Ireland a special one with custom itineraries (including accommodations) reviewed and approved prior to our booking each suggestion as well as all attractions / activities possible prior to your arrival so that you experience a stress free holiday and … we’re always glad to modify as often as needed to suit. :) In saying that, we were also delighted to receive the following message from another member of your group … ‘Connie: Thanks for checking in and for providing the Shutterfly link to the pictures of our September adventure with you. The pictures opened up fine for me. I’ll pass on the link to the remainder of the gang. We still swap stories about the fabulous time we had in Ireland – thanks for making it so memorable for us!' …
Ireland is a very laid back country accepting of everyone’s actions with the kettle on and fresh scones ready to welcome every visitor to our small but mighty land and please know that you’ll always be welcome back :)
“Friends and relatives, so fond and dear, 'tis our greatest pleasure to have you here. When many years this day has passed, fondest memories will always last. So we drink a cup of Irish mead and ask God's blessing that it fill your every need."
All the best, Connie

On my trip to Ireland I learnt a lot about America. The van was really uncomfortable with poor visability. Two venues visited were closed. My father in law's birthday was honoured when two candles were placed is his dessert (his dessert that he ordered and paid for). He was rarely called by his correct name.
Connie was very patient with a ember fo our group with poor mobility. The hotels were fine.
I would have pulled out of a tour that cost 300 Euro per person per day but I was part of a group and we were not quoted until we were already overseas.

Hello Anne,
First I must say that I enjoyed your family group and the laughs we had during the week. :)) Many thanks for the compliment regarding my patience.. it's always nice to be appreciated although that's just my nature and always more than happy to ensure the comfort and safety of all of our guests… as well as answer the questions presented along the way. Although our expertise is in Ireland, we'll answer questions regarding America too :) I'm also glad to hear that your accommodations were fine given that your family group coordinator had reviewed / approved each 4 star hotel during the planning process of designing your custom itinerary .. I'm sure he'd be happy to hear this as well.
Regarding your father in law, Barrie, and his birthday.. A cake was pre-ordered well in advance and unfortunately, the omission was an oversight on behalf of the hotel staff. In saying that, also discussed as a group, it was my intent on treating all of you to dinner as a show of appreciation to your choosing Emerald Isle Tour when I was firmly out voted followed by your family ordering individually with Barrie, your father in law choosing the menu option which included dessert (which also may have contributed to the oversight). Upon this happening, I personally contacted the kitchen staff and asked them to make your father in law's 'dessert' special in recognition of his birthday which resulted in the candles for him. So .. while it's unfortunate he did not receive his cake as planned, he enjoyed his birthday in the end which was the ultimate goal. ;).
We have built our reputation on being forthcoming and honest with regard to our quotes and inclusions from the onset as well as the flexibility of our custom tours regarding interests, pace and budget. We communicated both at length with your groups coordinator with the initial quote / inclusions as well as terms being given on the 17th Jan. It was on 13th Feb when your group coordinator approved stating “It looks like going ahead. What is the next step?”. On 17th Feb., our required deposit (as per terms) was received and our custom planning process began. After several modifications, the final itinerary was reviewed and approved (including accommodations) on 6th Aug. On 25th Sept., flight schedule changes were discussed as well as final balance due less deposit invoiced. While we were communicating with your coordinator on a regular basis and he with the group, it’s curious to me that you weren’t informed as the others were. As we feel that communication is paramount for our tours to meet (often exceed) our guests expectations, we do so in great detail with the coordinator and often group emails however, we have little to no control over how each group, or individuals communicate among themselves.
Again, thank you for the compliments and choosing Emerald Isle Tour. We enjoyed your family group and the many laughs along the way including the difference between Heron & Herring ... "wings and gills" ;) lol.
Please know that you’ll be ‘welcome back home’ anytime!
All the best, Connie

"Enchanting" doesn't do justice to Connie and her service. This is a superb value for a well-conceived, culture-rich, low-key and completely customizable tour.
Connie spent days planning the trip with me even before I made my way to Ireland, and even then she surprised me with sites and vistas off the beaten path. It's clear she's done her fair deal of adventuring; she's a trove of travel ideas both tourist-known and otherwise.
Despite some difficulties that arose the day of the trip (a flat-tire caused a delay for pickup in the morning), Connie was insistent that I get the "full value" of the tour. She took me out for a lovely night of pubbing at the end of the day and the next day brought me along for a masterful sightseeing trip coupled with a ride to my next location free of charge.
This is a tour for people who want a guide who can engage rather than just inform. She weaves tales and history into conversation that will keep you entertained for the duration of your trip. And more important, you will learn what interests you instead of passively absorbing tourist dogma.
This is a highly recommended service for the open-minded traveler. The adventure will not be one you'll soon forget.

Thank-you so much for the wonderful and well written review! 'Engaging' and 'entertaining' is exactly what the entire tour was. ;-). I live by the motto 'treat others as you'd expect to be treated' therefore after learning your interests - suggestions and customizing was easy and the time spent was a pure pleasure! Anyone can come to Ireland as a 'tourist' but it is always my hope to have them return home with unique stories to tell and new friendships made - after your tour...we both have them and agreeably, not soon forgotten! ;-) Ireland, as well as myself will aways welcome your return! Connie

It is hard to know where to start with this review for Emerald Isle Tour and Connie, our guide, but I think for now thank you will have to do. My girlfriend and I recently scheduled a three-day stay in Donegal after touring Dublin. We wanted to tour County Antrim, as well as parts of Donegal, and required a ride to and from Donegal County Airport. Emerald Isle Tour, was reasonably priced and more than accommodating.
After landing on the evening flight from Dublin, Connie met us at the airport in her spacious van, and drove us the scenic, yet distant drive to our hotel accommodation at Harvey’s Point (also a must if you are staying in the Donegal Town area.) Our original intention for staying in this region was to reconnect with my girlfriend’s family; however, that proved to be very difficult. Despite our previous hardship, Connie tried her best to work her (many) area connections to locate my girlfriend's family in the hope that we might be able to visit the next day. Connie certainly went well beyond what was expected of any guide, and this was only a marker of what was to come.
The next day Connie met us promptly at our hotel to take us north to Dunluce Castle, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, and Giants Causeway. My girlfriend and I also explained that we also hoped to see Slieve League Cliffs in Donegal with the aim of making it back to the hotel in time for dinner and a reasonable time to turn in for our early flight to Glasgow, Scotland—not the most reasonable request. Connie explained that it would be a difficult task to complete, but she was certainly up to making our wishes happen.
Connie is truly a guide’s, guide. She knows the tricks and shortcuts to keeping those on her tour in the know and happy. She knows how to save you a Euro or Pound, all while keeping the mood lively and informative. Connie is also full of surprises. For example: At no point during our tour was I looking for internet access, but when the conversation required I look something up, Connie produced a card which allowed me to have wireless access while in her car. Not that you would want to take a moment to look away from the beautiful scenery, but that perk allowed me to update my family and friends with pictures of our very adventurous day. One would have to look at a map to truly appreciate the amount of driving and travel we did in one day. The non-stop, high-energy guiding Connie did was truly amazing. She talked about everything from the history of the people, to the land, to the sites, to her own story- which is absolutely fascinating.
When we were selecting a guide for our time in the region we had a few options. The fact that Connie was an American crossed my mind at first almost as a concern. Would this in some way be inauthentic? How could an American provide us with the same quality service and information as someone who was born there? Save for her accent, I truly believe Connie probably could have been born in Ireland. She is a Donegal woman through and through, but the benefits of her American sensibilities were repaid tenfold. By that I mean, Connie was able to translate for us the things that we literally (in speech) did not understand, culturally were confused about, or were perhaps too embarrassed to otherwise ask. Connie, however, will not hover over us or intrude on our ‘personal space’. She will let you explore on your own, make suggestions as to what you should do, and let you enjoy the sites and tours on your own. But you will never, ever feel alone. She will take care of you with the highest quality of standards and service.
My girlfriend and I spent a very brief time in Donegal, and an even shorter time with Connie. Connie dropped us off early in the morning on our final day in Ireland at the Donegal County airport for our short flight to Glasgow. We were both very sad to leave Ireland and Donegal, it is an amazing country and an unspeakably beautiful and underrated county. Likewise, I was just as sad to leave our guide and new friend Connie. She had shown us so many new and exciting things about Ireland. I truly believe that Connie is as much in the fabric of Donegal and Ireland as Guinness or Saint Patrick. Book a tour with her now. You will not regret it.
Thank you Connie!

We called on Connie Carr of Emerald Isle Private Tours because we had a limited amount of time in which to see select locations and didn't want the confinement of a bus tour itinerary. Connie came through with insight and suggestions as to how to make the near impossible task of seeing a great deal in a short amount of time happen. She chose wonderful eateries that were satisfying both in quality of food and cultural experience. Not only was she very professional with the handling of each aspect of the trip, she was very personable. She took the time to get to know us so that she could schedule stops of interest along the way, such as the site where the movie, "The Quiet Man" was filmed (one of my husband's favorite movies). It was a pleasure to travel the many country lanes with Connie and we hope to do it again someday!
My tip for the trip is: Relax and let someone else drive :)

Wow, Emerald Isle Tours/Connie made my Ireland dream trip come true. She truly offers a custom tour and will draft your tour plans as needed until you are happy with your itinerary. Our 12 days trip around the island of Ireland was everything I dreamed of and more. I spent 12 days with Connie, my husband and my kids ages, 17, 20, 22 and she rented a comfortable van to fit us all and we never had a dull moment. From the Cliffs of Moher to horse-backing riding to staying in a couple Castles, everything was spectacular and well organized, Can't wait to return because I know there is still so much to see.

Hi Valerie, your tour was indeed a great one and the 3 children were brilliant as well ! ;) We covered a lot of ground and did many exciting things for sure and yes… there’s so much more to see but on your return trip, we’ll have our own, even more comfortable van! ;) As your driver guide, I have to say that my favorite moment(s) was watching all the ‘Irish cows’! :) I’m so very glad to have been a part of making your family trip to Ireland a dream come true for you and we’re looking forward to welcoming you back ‘home’ in the future! Anytime ... the kettle is always on! :)
My wish for you is that you’ll always have...
“Walls for the wind, and a roof for the rain, and drinks beside the fire.
Laughter to cheer you and those you love near you, and all that your heart may desire!”
All the best, Connie

Magical, breathtaking, full of history and culture. Both heart warming and heart aching stories of a people so timeless. i loved every minute and did not make my stay near long enough. I visited mainly northern Ireand in county Donnegal. Connie, my tour guide, made my stay quite enchanting and i seriously felt like i was a part of this mystical island and one of the people. i definitely took a"wee bit of the irish "back with me. This is a must see place with its castles, mountains, lakes, cliffs and more. i love the history and mystery. And being guided by a knowledgeable and freindly person, (and yes American thank goodness, because it took me awhile to get my irish ears on...so to speak) made it incredibly comfortable. I knew i was in good hands. 5 STARS!

Thank you for such a heartfelt review! We really did do our share of entwining with the people… their lives, the history and culture of Ireland and in consideration of the short time you were here…you not only felt the magic of Ireland, seen sheep being sheared and experienced a genuine peat fire but also did indeed take a ‘wee bit of Irish’ back with you! ;) Delighted that my ‘translation’ of Irish English (and the brogue) were helpful, even imperative a couple of times! Ha! We had a very special time – quality – and I’m very happy to know that aside from being comfortable, you were also confident that you were in good hands! Thank you for the compliment – it’s reassuring to know that we succeeded in our mission to make you feel at home - where you’re welcome back at any time!
