- Colin D0 contributionsA fascinating historical walking tourA wonderful tour around Cobh on a cold Autum day, with the hugely knowledgeable Kieran. Highly recommended to those who want to find out a bit more about the history of early 20th Century Ireland and how it relates to the British Isles as a whole. Kieren has a great knowledge of history relating to the town of Cobn and the details he told us regarding past characters of the town were very interesting. Each item is presented in an interesting way that even my girlfriend liked (who is not into history). Especially the bits about survivors after a death in their family. The walk itself was not too arduous, though you do need to be able to cope with a few hills and steps. The tour made me wish that I had more time to spend in the town. Plenty of opportunities to take photos. When you go on as tour like this you begin to realise that there is much more to many towns that you would ever find out from the tourist office. Highly recomended.Written March 4, 2020
- Jacob B0 contributionsGreat insight into local historyThis was a wonderful tour explaining Cobh’s role and participation in the struggle for Irish independence. You could tell this was something the guide felt passionate about and he made the history come alive. He answered questions, got to know us, and entertained us by taking us to the places where Irish rebels carried out their fight for independence. He also seemed to know just about everybody in town. I loved someone who is passionate about his local history sharing that with us. Highly recommend!Written January 25, 2020
- Meander041237123160 contributionsWalking Tour of Irish HistoryOur group of 4 had a wonderful walking tour of Cobh, highlighting the significant role of this small town in the struggle for Irish independence. Kieran was knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. We learned a great deal about the role of ordinary men, women and children in the formation of the Republic. Take this walking tour for an unforgettable experience.Written September 24, 2019

- crazymaddancer0 contributionsCaptivatingAn exceptional tour! We booked this independently with Kieran. He met us outside the Titanic/Lusitania museum close to our ship, The Silhouette. He looked amazing in his costume. Throughout the couple of hours he took us from site to site, pointing out the importance of it in 20th Century Irish history. Kieran brought the characters alive: 'The lookout for the ambush was called X and he was only 15 years old. He stood in that doorway when...' well, I wouldn't like to spoil it for you! History comes alive with a guide like him! Would we go again? Yes!Written August 28, 2019

Kieran is a great storyteller, making the history of Cobh really come alive. He also puts the events happening in Cobh into the wider context of Irish history, so it all pieces together nicely. When in Cobh, don't miss your chance to take this tour.

We met Kieran outside the local museum and he took us around the town and through 170 years of history, from Cove, to Queenstown, to Cobh.
We went to several locations around the town where local people fought for their freedom from the British. We learnt about the timing of the events in relation to national and international events. The visit of the Queen, the sinking of the Lusitania and the Libau/Aud, the Easter Rising. Linking in the American and French Revolution. An invasion into Canada. And the comings and goings of important Irish leaders.
All linked through the village of Cobh.

Kieran is an incredible guide, he brought us on a fascinating historical tour of Cobh, giving context and insight to the rich history of the town at key pivotal points in irish history. He painted colourful pictures of historical figures and the often grim realities of life during the struggle for independence, he revealed the living references in names of streets and buildings. His storytelling is second to none, definitely recommend to anyone who gets a chance to visit Cobh! Thanks again Kieran! -Alex and Ellie.

Kieran was well versed in his knowledge with Cobh. He even dressed the part to make you feel like you were talking to a rebel from that period of time! Kieran has passion when he tells his stories of the rebellion and you can tell he loves his work.. He told me he interviewed many people in this town himself to get the information he presents so it isn’t from some company that he studied this from.. it’s personal for him! If you want history from Cobh you want to hear it from him!!!! Thanks Kieran!!

Linda and I (Barry) spent 2.5 hours with Kieran and had a most instructive and enjoyable afternoon.
History told from the perspective of an Irish Rebel can be a little hard on English/Welsh ears, but Kieran has the charisma and charm necessary to pull it off.
Some great discussion and debate, we occasionally agreed to disagree.
If you are interested in history, this is a must do. Kieran is very knowledgeable and extremely passionate about his subject

One of the best tours I've ever been on. The guide was fascinating and truly dedicated to local history. I've been in Ireland for two years now and he gave me such a wonderful context for the history of Ireland, the revolution, the enduring troubles, the famine, and modern day politics. He ties it all together- Not to be missed!

We had a wonderful evening tour with Kieran. His knowledge of the Irish revolution is extensive and he is able to bring it to life by sharing stories on how the revolution unfolded on the streets of Cobh. For a small Irish town it is amazing to learn about its significance not only in Irish history, but also World events. If you are a history buff and want to see the town of Cobh, this is the tour for you!

My partner and I did this tour during our day trip to Cobh and it was the most fascinating part of our day. We felt bad because we had another activity booked at 5pm and started the tour at 3, so we had to cut the tour a few minutes short. However, Kieran was super understanding and accommodating. He has so much knowledge about the town and it’s history, and I felt like we got a great holistic view of that history. He is also an incredible storyteller and we were hanging on his every word. I would honestly go back and take the tour again - we learned so much. I thoroughly recommend it!

Fantastic tour with Kieran.
Kieran McCarthy gave an excellent interesting Rebel tour.
He concentrated on the rebellions and Civil War of the 19th and early 20th century in Cobh. He brought the times to life with lookouts, ambushes, doorways and alleyways. He is very passionate about his subject and has obviously spent decades on his research and even published his own book. The tour was interspersed with other interesting details about the Cathedral, Titanic and other sites in Cobh.
5 stars for the tour. One of the highlights of our Ireland tour.
