Just loved the whole thing . It was well organized ,ensuring that Covid regulations were met and on arriving at the office somewhat early , were immediately given our boarding passes and given clear instructions as to time and place .Inside we were well spaced out to avoid close contact . We had an excellent view and comfortable ride as we travelled and also enjoyed the amusing commentary . Swing Bridge was efficiently handled by the crew to ensure waiting time was kept to a bare minimum ensuring best use of our cruising time . We ordered a packed lunch which comprised varied contents which were fresh and tasty and well packed- good value .

Had a trip with my partner Sunday, really enjoyed it, comfortable seat, the staff are all friendly, brought us two coffees to our seat which were nicely priced. The safety commentary by Dave Spikey was pure class, proper northern humour from a real comedian.

The trip was well worth the ticket price, the only reason I didn't give full stars is the commentary needs to be louder, it was drowned out by people playing games on their phones and updating their Faceache profiles and the tippy tappy giving constant beeps etc.....why bother going on a trip like this if you want to play candy crush or tell the world on Faceache what you had for dinner etc etc.

Highly recommend and will do a dinner cruise next providing the social media people can put their phone's away for just an hour.

All staff socially distanced and ensured social distancing.

We decided to take advantage of staying in the Skipton area by taking a Sunday afternoon cruise on the Leeds Liverpool Canal courtesy of Skipton Boat Trips.

For £8.00 you get a relaxing one hour public cruise with a recorded commentary by comedian Dave Spikey giving a hilarious take of the history of Skipton and the Leeds Liverpool Canal in general.

I can only speak for the COVID safety measures that were in place on our cruise (which took place prior to the introduction of the new Government measures). "Bubbles" were distanced from each other with parties being separated by the central corridor and plastic screens. Alongside this, the cabin is fully cleaned down after each cruise and staff are on hand on entry with hand sanitiser.

Refreshments are available on board and although payment was primarily accepted by cash, we were given the option of paying on return to the office for Skipton Boat Trips through Contactless transaction. With the continued drive towards making payments by this method, it may be worth investing in Contactless on the boats themselves. (I don't know what is happening with obtaining refreshments at present due to the rule changes which took place after our trip, so it would be worth checking before you take a trip).

Another thing that could be updated is the commentary itself. Whilst entertaining, there are references which are now which are out of date (such as to the Golden Dragon Brewery which has closed down since the initial recording).

If you're looking for a relaxing way of travelling along the Leeds Liverpool Canal which is also safe, Skipton Boat Trips is a great way to spend an hour of your time.

Thanks for the feedback! We do accept contactless payments on most trips, however reception on certain parts of the canal is spotty, so it’s easier to take payment in the office!

Had a lovely trip along the canal. Very relaxing and the commentary was very entertaining. The children were kept entertained with colouring whilst we waited to set off which was a nice touch. The company were also very accommodating when I booked the wrong date by mistake 🙄 Enjoyed fish and chips at the restaurant next door afterwards which I can highly recommend too.

The cruise itself was scenic and relaxing and the boat was very comfortable with lots of leg room in the seats, Staff were nice and friendly and even came round and gave the dogs on board a treat which was a nice touch and the bar was stocked and open!.

Now the less than good bits..

The advert on the website states "Your guide for the canal tour is award-winning comedian Dave Spikey of Phoenix Nights and 8 Out of 10 Cats fame" which suggests Dave is actually on the boat 'guiding' but it was just recorded commmentary with his voice used, a bit misleading as i would imagine a few people book thinking they are actually getting to see Dave in person.
The commentary, which we actually heard (more about this is a minute) was informative and humourous in parts but was utterly spoilt by the 4 blokes in the seats in front of us who never stopped talking over the commentary ALL THE TIME - and not even about the Cruise/area/history etc it was just them 4 having their own private conversation about Covid/Emails/life in general the entire time we were on the boat, both myself, my partner and the couple behind us were very close to saying something but didn't want to cause a scene as obviously the rest of the boat were trying to listen and of course we didn't know how they would react, we both commented at an audible level how rude they were being in the hope they would take the hint but they didn't, we thought a couple of times they had finally shut up to let us enjoy what we had paid for, we were wrong, the silence was obviously too much for them so one of them started up another conversation much to the annoyance of us all again, Surely a member of staff should have stepped in and asked them to be quiet so everyone could hear the commentary? maybe it's acceptable to talk all the way through the cruise and we were just on a 'quieter boat'? Why they bothered paying money to sit on a boat when they could've sat in a pub and chatted beats me, i would have given a higher rating but these 4 men spoilt the journey for us and we were quite glad to be off and rid of them in the end.
Maybe you could get Dave or a member of staff to ask that people respect others and not talk during the commentary bits?.
An absolute shame as the bits i did hear were very informative and interesting.

Booked a Santa boat trip with my daughter, her partner and my six year old grandson for this afternoon, 3pm booking. Absolutely first class from start to finish, fantastic care and consideration given to being Covid secure - waiting outside in spacious courtyard area, called forward individually by Head Elf (and boy what an enthusiastic and committed Head Elf) each family given a table number, hand sanitizer on boarding and masks worn when moving around. One family seated before next called , each group of table seats had screens between them, as well as a lovely warm radiator, much appreciated on a cold wet Saturday afternoon. None of this, very necessary precaution, did anything to take away from the excitement, from the “where’s Santa? Have we left him behind?” to the kids shouting for Santa, his appearance walking up through the boat (masked and gloved) stopping to greet the children. Once he’d taken his place tea/coffee and mince pies were served for adults with orange juice and biscuits for the little ones along with crayons and activity book. Each child was called up one by one (with a parent if wanted) to go chat to Santa. Details were taken at booking, so Santa knew each child’s age and achievements which added to the magic. Nothing felt rushed as the trip was just over an hour, so plenty of time for each child to chat to the main man (who dealt with George’s question of “how much Reindeer power does the sleigh have and how fast does it go?”, without missing a beat!). In a particularly tough year, this was an hour of sheer joy and magic. Cannot thank you all enough

Wow! Thank you for taking the time to write such a kind review. We really love this time of year at Skipton Boat Trips and this year we’ve worked extra hard to bring some joy after a rough 2020! It was our absolute pleasure to have you all on board and George was a little star! We hope you all have a very happy Christmas and we look forward to seeing you again!

We booked onto the hour long cruise in July. It was ok. The weather was very wet which meant the windows all steamed up. This meant we saw very little of the outside. It also felt quite cramped especially at the front where we were sitting. The commentary by Dave Spikey was quite amusing. Overall an ok trip.

The team were really efficient and friendly. Covid procedures were followed so passengers were socially distanced and seats and rails were sanitised.
Refreshments were offered at a reasonable price.
Only comment is that there is not much leg room so can be uncomfortable.

The first boat trip of the day 11.50 goes over lunch so was mostly adults.
Seats assigned because of covid so no need to worry if you are at the back of the queue when you arrive.
Enjoyable ride; the canal is relaxing and the sheep staring at you as you pass them is quite entertaining.
You can buy drinks on board.
Dogs welcome as you can see on my photo.

Good Covid guidelines being followed and people lined up on one side to enter and left the boat on the other. Masks used appropriately. We had the packed lunch which wasn’t cheap but was filling and tasted good. The trip was about an hour and probably the only negative comment was it was difficult to hear all the commentary as it wasn’t loud enough and people were chatting. Social distancing with the seating arrangement was good and great that the company allocated the seats.
