About the operator

- Inspire8141130 contributionsGreat ExcursionGreat excursion. My guide Alex was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Learning about the different types of Mangroves and the tidal patterns was interestingWritten December 2, 2024
- brianlO1239LQ0 contributionsNice way to see the mangrovesVisiting Mida Creek for a canoe ride through the mangroves is a worthwhile stop. The mangroves are beautiful and it's very peaceful. The ride is relatively short and not highly varied, but it's still recommended.Written May 25, 2024
- vivianpJ3473IV0 contributionsWonderful WatamuWe arrived at this little oasis after Diani Beach. What a wonderful respite from the hustle and bustle. This eco friendly hotel is quietly tucked away off the beaten track and expertly managed by Marion and her fantastic staff. We enjoyed the scenery, food and paddling through the mangroves. And in between we thoroughly enjoyed the salt water swimming pool.Written February 4, 2024

- RickF9060 contributionsAn Absolutely, Amazing Experience on Captain Sammy Dhow! What an absolutely, amazing experience! After struggling to organise a sunset cruise on a dhow on Mida Creek, Watamu (virtually all the other operators were only interested in large groups and were very offhand the moment we said it was for a party of two) we were advised to contact Laeti as she owns the Captain Sammy dhow. We are so glad we did! Right from our first contact with her, nothing was too much trouble (even arranging the Kenyan Wildlife Service passes for us.) And once on the dhow, with just my wife and I as passengers, the first class service continued. Captain Dire and David made sure that we had everything we needed from food, drink and even supplying a Bluetooth speaker so we could listen to our own music. The food was outstanding - simply cooked but very, very tasty and absolutely delicious. Even if we had been a party of eight, we wouldn't have been able to eat all of it. If you are wanting a very personal experience with first class service and a crew that wish to make your evening perfect, then I absolutely recommend Captain Sammy.Written November 9, 2023
- stefania s0 contributionsBoring not interestingSo boring to be for about 4 hours sitting on the downi doing nothing. We have just spotted a few birds and at the very end, the sunset (not a special one). They didn't offer us the so-called snack. The only drink available was a little bottle of water, warm, and a lukewarm coke. Do not waste your money, stay on the beachWritten October 26, 2023
- 818katherync0 contributionsBeautiful mangrove forrestbeautiful, wide creek surrounded by mangrove forrest. I arranged a kayak trip through Watamu Treehouse. Lots of side canals to explore. They also have a Mida Creek float on the full moon that looks amazing.Written August 3, 2023
- melvineo2410 contributionsDefinately coming back to MidaMy partner and I was here from 29th April n spent two nights. I had the best time of my vacation. Delicious and fresh food, beautiful sunset and sunrise views, free available boat rides to watamu mainland, managed to swim in the sea, amazing swimming pool. The hotel is also friendly to children. Had a spacious coco room with warm comfortable bed. We loved our stay here and will come back soon, hopefully with our families. Mariam, the manager is so kind and warm hearted. Thanks so much Mariam, we enjoyed our stay at Mida.Written May 2, 2023
- CossyWombat0 contributionsAn excellent spot for birdersMake sure you wear appropriate shoes since in order to really look at birds, which was our objective, you need to go onto the salt flats, which are wet and soggy. It is worth taking a guide which can be arranged at your hotel/camp.Written March 13, 2023
- msafirimbili0 contributionsMida Creek Day tripWe did the full day Mida Creek adventure. The snorkeling and seeing the dolphins was great, the boatmen were great and friendly. Take a towel to sit on, as the hard wooden seats are uncomfortable after a while. Also not happy about using the common snorkel, that are washed in the sea water. I was not impressed with the seafood lunch. I think there are different tours, so I can't say that applies to ALL the tours. If you don't eat seafood, don't do the lunch. Also there wasn't really enough food, it was adequate, but certainly not overly satisfying. Tiny little prawns, and small, small lobsters, the squid was not nice, hard and rubbery, and there were no accompaniments whatsoever. No salad, just a lump of what they called coconut rice and a veg sauce. And warm drinks. Did not enjoy the village dancing after the lunch, it's ok for tourists, I suppose, but then comes the "magic box" which is for tips. Its awkward, and then the coffee guy offers you freshly ground coffee, and once you say yes, he charges you a 100/= for a teeny weeny plastic cup. RIP off!! Next time I will do the half day trip and skip the lousy lunch.Written January 29, 2022

This 32km2 creek has wide, healthy beds of seagrass and coral, home to many species of fish and feeding sea turtles, while in the mangroves smaller streams and inlets provide a refuge for crabs and birdlife.
Mida is a stopover point for many migratory birds and an essential protected area for their survival. This makes it one of the most important and beautiful natural attractions on the Kenyan coast.
Mida is best explored by boat, on a cruise through the creek at sunset for a sundowner drink, as the setting sun turns the waters to gold and flocks of roosting birds fill the sky. Flamingoes are often seen feeding in Mida. The creek is also an incredible kayaking destination, with endless small channels and passages through the mangroves to explore where kingfishers hunt in the shallow waters and fish eagles perch in the overhead trees. You can also take a stand up paddle board (SUP) through the creek or even take a guided float through the waters of the creek in a life-vest, carried by the gentle tidal currents.
The central broadwater is also ideal for waterskiing and wakeboarding. Along the shore, a local community project, the Mida Creek Conservation Community, runs a crab farm and local crab shack restaurant serving crab dishes, including its very popular crab samosas, on a boardwalk and deck built over the mangroves with views across the creek.

We are a family of five people who went on the tour end December 2021. We really enjoyed the tour and we especially enjoyed being taken on the tour by Hassan. He was an excellent guide who really had lots of knowledge and interest in the flora and fauna. He was also very positive and kept everyone in a good spirit, especially our seven year old who kept singing/making the same noises as Hassan for the rest of our trip. Hassan took off before we were able to tip him for his excellent guiding but we would like to recommend him and the tour here instead.

Our trip through the mangroves was awesome. Our guide Daniel is incredibly knowledgeable about the trees and Midas Creek having lived there his whole life. Despite the fact we couldn't do the boardwalk due to it being maintained, the experience was really worth while. It's all part of a local community initiative to boost eco-tourism and to conserve the mangroves and their environment. Daniel and his community colleagues have nurseries where they grow mangrove seedlings into saplings and then plant them back in the water to restore the "forest" around the edge of the Creek. You see these young newly planted trees during the canoe ride. The canoe ride around the Creek is so peaceful and a great way to end your day. There was no sunset on our day but this would be spectacular to enjoy from the water. We saw and learnt a lot about the various birds, fish and crabs that make the Creek their home. Daniel was highly entertaining too and a fabulous host and guide. We were so pleased we decided to take this tour instead of the standard tourist Douw trips. This trip was much better value for money in our view and enabled us to support the community in the great environmental work they are doing. They even spend time collecting the washed up plastic and detritus off the shoreline.
We would highly recommend this tour if you're into doing something "off the beaten track" and different. The booking cost is very reasonable and the real cost will be whatever you decide to donate to the community project.
The eco camp is a bit of a distance from Watamu but nothing a Tuk Tuk can't handle. It's advisable to get your driver to speak to the camp to get clear direction on how to get there. Take some cash with you too for donations and buying a few craft items at the end of the trip.
Generally, we highly recommend this excursion and the project needs support.

From the moment we arrived we knew it would be something special.
The rickety boardwalk through the various mangroves give a great insight into the valuable work they do here.
Then the real adventure begins!! We went at low tide so had a walk through the flats to our canoe. Our guide allowed as much time as needed to point out the amazing marine life. We boarded the canoe and off we went around the creek.
The birdlife is spectacular culminating in my first Kingfisher spotting, not just one but four!!
TIP!!
Make tour own way there from any hotel in Watamu.
If you are on a budget DO NOT BOOK THROUGH A HOTEL!! Our hotel wanted 4000ksh for transport, we paid 2000..The hotel wanted 7000ksh for the boardwall amd canoe (for 2), we paid 2800ksh. Adding tips etc (guide, canoe captain and tuk tuk driver) we saved over 50% by making own own way.
Mida Creek need help through increased visitor numbers to help restore the mangrove forest, if you do nothing else on your beach holiday, do this, you will not be disappointed.

Overdue review!
What a beautiful experience Harrison and his colleague gifted myself and my mother with. It wasn't just Mida Creek Boardwalk and Canoa Ride, I'll get to that in a bit but also a trip to see elephants!
We got lost and Harrison kindly picked us up from where we were and assured us we'd still be able to experience what we had booked as his next tour wasn't until much later. Lucky!
It was a true adventure. We saw birds and some sea creatures but the views and peacefulness was more than enough. Harrison educated us on our surroundings, fishing and really anything we asked with much detail. He also taught us a bright and catchy song that has not escaped us! There was a great balance of laughter and silence and of course smiles all around.
After the ride we did the boardwalk which is really long! It was inspiring to see what they had created. The craftsmanship was out of this world!
We were taken aback by the camp. If we had more time, we would have stayed there. The camp was so nicely decorated, simple and charming. The bedrooms and the bathrooms were great too. Loved the private seating areas/swings too. So much thought and love has gone into the camp. Light and running water (great water pressure).
Harrison and co went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We got talking some more and he mentioned the edge of a forest with a water well where elephants go after sunset. We stayed in contact and he kindly arranged a tour there. Picked us up from our airbnb and allowed my mother and I to experience yet another special experience together.
I HIGHLY recommend this tour and Harrison.
Thank you H for your kindness and knowledge, until next time!

It was a good tour. 100% cultural content where you can be in intimate contact with nature in the same way as the local people do. The guide was very good, he knows the area and also sang and explained some of the songs they sing in their community.

A 2 hour walk then boat ride in the mangroves of Mida Creek. Knowledgeable guides. The boardwalk was under repair and the elevated suspended portion was a bit rustic that took some attention to maintain secure footing. Your footwear will get wet and dirty so dress accordingly. Highlight was the short up a serene canal in the mangroves. Idyllic.
Note : it was a 4000 KES taxi ride out and back to town that adds to the cost yet fees for the excursion are inexpensive.

We did a birdwalk arranged at Mida Creek Eco lodge. Our guide Hassan was really good. He knows a lot of birds, wetlands, creek environments, different kind of crabs, spiders and mangroves. We walked between the mangroves, on a 200 meter hanging bridge over water and mangroves. And walked back on the wad. Hassan speaks Swahili, English, German and Dutch. He is an amazing guide!

We relied on Polenta Usei (+254758882147) and Ebo who with the boat will take you to the beach surrounded by mangroves where you can eat fresh fish cooked on the grill such as lobsters, swordfish and shrimp. Really everything was delicious!!
In Italy it is practically impossible to eat fresh, quality fish at those prices
Furthermore there is the possibility of taking a canoe ride among the mangroves by paying the €7 ticket
Polenta and Ebo are fantastic, they will make you feel unique emotions, they are kind-hearted, serious and reliable people. You can contact him from Italy and arrange excursions with him. We had a great time

We made an app. 2 hour visit to Mida Creek from Watamu, most of the time walking through the mangrove area including of course the board walk. Lots of birds to be seen and thanks to our local guide Mohammed we saw interesting life and received fine background information. A very recommendable excursion.

What is the price of this activity? Does the price include entrance fee to the park? Also, is it posible to bring a 2 year old child along?
Is there availability tomorrow evening? We are potentially 6 adults and 1 child.
