Makes for great pictures - a must see!
Be prepared to walk...a lot. The week we went there was a strike happening so many of the shuttles from the parking lot to the base of the mountain were on irregular schedules. Walking the mountain is no problem but would recommend comfortable shoes, inhaler (if you need it) and lots of water. They also have tour guides available in different languages which was really helpful. The change in climate also made it confusing on how to dress the higher up you go - the colder it is. And some parts are downright sweltering so bring a sweater! Loved this historic location and there are various eateries and bistros around the mountain which could be rather pricey so bring a sandwich!

      Mont Saint Michel Abbey.
This place is simply magnificent and when you consider it dates back to the 10th. Century it is an awesome sight as you approach it. The village that grew below the Abbey is very quaint with narrow streets and pathways. Wear comfortable walking shoes as the walk up to the Abbey is extremely steep, but well worth it. Tip : We went by coach as it is a 3+ hour drive from Paris (should you be staying in Paris) and after a long day walking, it might not be a comfortable drive back to Paris.

This was an amazing experience! It does require a lot of walking in wet sand and knee-depth water, but it was so worth it to see Mont Saint Michel from all sides and to learn the history of the area. Best to wear shorts and go barefoot, as advised by the guide beforehand. Be ready also to walk in the rain and mist. Our guide gave the presentation in French and English to accommodate the group.
Guide will leave promptly at the scheduled time which is based on the tide table, so don't be late!

Le mont saint michel is a castle island when low tide . Accessibility is easy with shuttle bus service on constructed bridge to the site . Interesting restaurants and shops but walking up the castle to have a panoramic view of the area is worth the exercise

Wonderful trip with my sister on a cold, sunny day in November 2022, expertly guided by Stephane Gueno. He gave us clear and specific instructions ahead of the trip about what to wear, so we were well-prepared. Walked at our pace. Helped us to the top of Tombelaine so we could enjoy the view. On the way back, demonstrated the dangers of quicksand and how to extract yourself. Knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. We felt very safe under his guidance. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone, and hope I get a chance to do it again.

The tour is very interesting, and you get to see Mont Saint-Michel from a great perspective! The round is about 3h, and Stephane tells lots of interesting informations. The walk itself is not very challenging, although you should take short trousers even if the weather is not so good - you will be going through lots of sandy-wet places that is easier to go barefoot and without wet clothes :) The guide is very nice and helpful, I definitely recommend the trip!

DAY 1 of France begins in the western college town of Rennes, the capital city of this region.

Starting from the tourism office in the center, surrounded by such old and quaint architecture, french sites/sounds/smells, our appetite for adventure is that of grumbling tummies. The office gives great directions to Rennes' Main Railway/Coach Station (fr.= Gare du Rennes). There we will catch the Keolis-Emeraude coach (13 euro/each way) to the coastal Island of Le Mont Saint-Michele (36km). MORE TO COME YA'LL. tut suite!

I booked an English language tour but we were the only English on it. So he spent 80% of the time talking to the French and 20% talking to us.
I imagined it would be walking around Mont Sant Michel with the guide providing info about it. There is reference to going to Tomberlaine Island in the description but I didn't sppreciate it would be so far away and so unimpressive.
What the tour actually was was a long hard slog in the cold in bare feet over difficult terrain (alternating between knee high water / hard sand with little stones and shells / slippery, sinking clay-sand) 2.5 km away from Mont Sant Michel in order to see a small island with nothing on it and then a long hard slog back. I can't understand why there are positive reviews for this... it seems pointless and unpleasant.
It should just be an hour going around Mont Sant Michel. He would still be able to give all the info he did in 3 hours without so much unnecessary bare-foot trudging!
Had I known what it was going to be like I would have turned around and gone back to my hotel.
    To be avoided!

Next time you have to read the description of the tour and a minimum of a sportive condition is necessary to do the tour... about the langage the tour is in French but i can give some explanations in English.. don't be surprised by it, i wroted it by message before the tour and you accepted it but in fact i think the tour was too much difficult, too much sportive for you ...

Enjoyed: interesting walk with some info, the amazing view of mont saint michel that you only get from that point of view, doing something a little atypical from the usual touristy things

Could be improved: more info on the geographical features in that area, more history about mont saint michel and how it came to be etc would be nice.

Thank you for your review... i'm happy you enjoyed the walking tour and i noticed you would like more historical comments ... why not but it's more the job of the guide of the abbaye of the Mont Saint Michel. My job is to show you the bay and differents view of Mont Saint Michel...and 03 hours is a limited time :))

Our guide, I'm so sorry I forget his name, was great. He was cautious and careful and explained and demonstrated how to get out of quick sand. It involves a lot of walking but the terrain is flat and it does involve walking through water up to your knee with a currant in places. But it was not difficult . I would recommend bare feet or comfortable water shoes and wear a backpack so your arms are free to hold hands on mud and while crossing the water flow. We had great fun. Highly recommend. Don't go out there without a guide! He is there for your safety as they know the tides and currants and places where there is quick sand.

I took the 6 km hike with Stephane to Mont Tombelaine, and I'm so glad I did. The hike was a sacred, beautiful, memorable experience at a very magical place. I enjoyed Stephane's balance of playfulness and caution, and I felt very safe and well-guided by him. So much so that when he suggested I get myself buried thigh deep in quicksand to practice escaping it, just for fun, I did (well, lower lower thigh, but my knees were under sand, and I could feel myself sinking fast). He talked me through my escape, and it was so fun and exciting to experience this. One of the sweetest, most magical, most wondrous days today at Le Mont San-Michel. And he was very kind to translate things into English for me, though everyone else on our tour spoke French. And also, on my tour there were two sweet older couples who managed this hike well, and my friend has taken her young daughter. Not easy, but definitely manageable and well worth the effort.

If I ever return with more time, I would do one of his longer walks, from Normandie, or even a camping overnight, when the tides allow. I 100% recommend Stephane as a guide--he's just a fun person to spend an afternoon with, and he's been doing this for many many years--and I'm so glad I didn't miss out on this experience!
