      A Good Time
While the water was really low, we enjoyed the Santa Elena Canyon outing. Our guide was great and had a lot of information about the area that he shared on the ride to and from the put in site. The website had very clear directions and descriptions.

      An amazing river float
We participated in a half-day river float and had a blast. We learned so much from our guide about the Chihuahuan desert, the Rio Grande, and more. He took very good care of us too. The company provided mud boots which was so great, in addition to dry bags. We couldn’t recommend this more. Even on a super windy day, we had a great experience!

Amazing 2-Day Canoe and Camping Trip on the Rio Grande
We had a spectacular 2-day canoe and camping trip on the Rio Grande in Santa Elena canyon. Asher from Big Bend Boating and Hiking was the perfect guide! He was very well organized and did all the heavy lifting to get our gear from the van, into the canoes, and to our campsite. He selected a great spot along the river to camp and took us on an incredibly fun hike up a side canyon after we had camp setup. Asher cooked a delicious dinner and breakfast, and made sure we had a nice campfire going to keep us warm. He made sure everyone was comfortable and kept us entertained with his great stories. As a bonus, we got to see a full moon light up the canyon at night – it was magical! We highly recommend Big Bend Boating and Hiking for any adventure at Big Bend!!

Big Bend 3 Night Backpacking Trip
Had an amazing 3 Day Overnight Trip Hiking Big Bend trails with Asher as our guide. He was very experienced and knowledgeable regarding best campsites to use, trail routes, etc. He had everything well organized and was prepared. The company provides everything which makes it so convenient. Both my 15 yr old son and myself had a blast. I highly recommend Asher and Big Bend Hiking and Boating for this trip!

      Beautiful Big Bend
My husband and I booked a one day float. Met the group and guides at 9:00 then headed into the wilds for an adventure. Along the drive, guide, Erik, gave us a great lesson on the history and geography of the area. All the guides were friendly and fun yet professional. The float was a beautiful experience. At the few “hairy” moments along the river the guides calmly readied us which was comforting. We always felt like we were in capable hands. The next time we find ourselves in Big Bend will definitely book with them again.

      Spectacular day
We enjoyed a spectacular day trip on the river with guide Andrew. His easygoing personality and extensive depth of knowledge were a real plus on top of the breathtaking natural beauty of the Santa Elena canyon. This day trip was the highlight of my first trip to Big Bend and I would highly recommend.

      Awesome canoeing down Rio Grande
We visited during spring break in March, 2023 and did the half day river tour. We were a party of 12, including 5 kids. Our guides were Niq, Lindsey and Maggie. They were amazing guides and made our canoeing experience awesome! They were very patient with our group, answered all our questions and gave very thorough directions. At couple of places with rapids they all helped to pass our canoes. Will surely go with them again.

Great guides, well-organized, a wonderful river.
We had a great time kayaking with Big Bend Boating and Hiking Company. They are well-organized and the guides are all really helpful. We loved the river they chose, next to a big canyon wall.

Best way to see Santa Elena Canyon!
Our family of 3 (2 adults and teenager) all agreed that was the best part of our trip. We loved seeing the canyon from the water! Our guides, Andrew and Adam, were great. Andrew offered to take some of us who were stronger paddlers a little further into the canyon, which we greatly appreciated!

      Santa Elena Canyon Overnight
An outstanding overnight trip with dramatic scenery from start to finish. Our guides were excellent, both good paddlers and campers: Annie was fun, welcoming and made delicious food; Tim’s park and nature knowledge was extensive and valuable. Being ahead of schedule, there was an optional extended section of river and side hike. I’ll bring my kids next trip!

Great way to explore Big Bend
My sister and I did an overnight canoe trip through the Santa Elena canyon and had an amazing time. Tim and Annie were super capable guides who kept us safe, informed, amazingly well-fed, and super happy. It was a seamless operation that I would recommend to anyone looking for a unique adventure in big bend away from the crowds

We had the privilege of being guided by Erin, one of the owners. The woman is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge about the geology, flora, fauna, history and culture of Big Bend, Terlingua and the surrounding area. The boomerang canoe trip was a wonderful experience. Very pleasant guide service. Her narrative about the area was the icing on the cake that we’d not expected. Highly recommend using this company for any guided trips you’re interested in taking in the area.

FAAAABULOUS CREW - Informative, sweet, funny, highly experienced. We’ve been to Big Bend more than a handful of times yet this was our favorite experience by far. You really can’t beat being told stories of the land by those that know it best, we even got a killer history lesson on the bus ride back to headquarters.

I wish I remembered the gentleman’s name who drove us back! He was hilarious, the bird expert of the tour, piercing eyes, terrible dad jokes – – I believe he was from California – – he was great! Five stars.

Obviously the sisters that run the businesses are unbelievably phenomenal, wish we could learn from them for more than just a few hours. Will definitely be returning again.

We visited in late March and the river was very low, to the point that canoes were the only viable way to navigate the river, but we knew that going in. We did a boomerang trip up into Santa Elena Canyon where we paddled upstream (there was no current to speak of) camped for the night, and returned downstream the next day. Our guide Katie was wonderful, knowledgeable, and very helpful in all aspects. She never stopped working to ensure the best possible trip in what were challenging circumstances. I would recommend Katie and this outfitter without any reservations, but I would recommend going when there is much more water flowing.

Erica and Erin run a great business! They were extremely knowledgeable, friendly and easy to work with to line up our 2 night, 3 day adventure. They went out of their way to help accommodate our family. Because of water levels, we started our trip on the east side of Big Bend National Park and took out in the Black Gap Wildlife Management Area. This part of the river is spring fed. It was a beautiful blue and perfect for our kids to swim in! Tim, our guide, was amazing. He did a great job with us adults and with our kids (10, 11) including making a special cake to celebrate our son's birthday one night at camp. We loved his stories and learning from him about the area and the natural world around us. He even found us a scorpion to see. When our family talked about our trip to the area, this river trip was the highlight and will stick in our minds and hearts. If we ever make it back to Terlingua we hope to take another trip through Big Bend Boating and Hiking Company.

After a long hike to the South Rim the day before, my two friends and I were ready for a more relaxing Saturday. We drove into the parking lot and met Erin and Erica out front. They were incredibly friendly, welcomed us, described the rafting options and explained that the afternoon half day trip had some availability. Andrew was our guide and he was awesome. He kept us all engaged during the 45 minute drive upstream with an interesting discussion of plants, history, geology and water (including why the Rio Grande is so high now even though it’s almost dry below El Paso). No silly stuff. Just really nice people. Great attention to safety and fun. Would recommend them to everyone. Note that these are the guys are on Highway 118 in a black building on the west side of the road at the bottom of the hill (as opposed to the similarly named outfit around the corner).

We purchased our tickets online and received several emails and texts as our adventure was closer. We had all the pertinent details we needed in order to have a great time. We met Joe and Annie at the assigned place and they prepared us for our afternoon on the Rio Grande. They have ice water to refill your water bottles, dry bags and they provide a safe place for you to leave your vehicle keys if you wish so you don't feed them to the river on your vacation. The site where you enter the river is in the Big Bend Ranch State Park . The van ride took about 45 min and Joe gave us really great information and insights as we traveled. So many beautiful views along the way. Once at the site Annie gave an excellent tutelage on water safety and paddle strokes. We were in the water approx 2 hours and traveled 1.2 miles. It was breathtaking and the guides made it so enjoyable. They were present to help us over any difficult bits and taught us about the river, land, history and foliage along the way. Embarking and disembarking was easily performed under our expert guides. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend experience.

We booked this trip only about two weeks prior to our trip since we were a little out of our regular hiking preparedness. We did the boomerang paddle up Santa Elena Canyon with a float back. The river luckily came up a few inches the day before and it was just enough to paddle through the faster spots going up river.

We left on time from the Terlingua headquarters and had an hour long drive to the launch point at Santa Elena. During the drive Erin gave us a geological history lesson on the park and it was the perfect thing for the drive. The carry and launch was well organized and after a brief canoe primer we were off. We paddled up stream in the pools and either pulled through the shallows or paddled hard through the slight rapids. They constantly gave directions for the changing river conditions and kept us together as a group. We went through a few and took an early lunch when rain started. They gave us insight into life in Terlingua. Afterwards, we went back to the launch down stream paddling the slight rapids and the extraction and load process was easy. Erica then gave us a history lesson of the region on the ride home. The day was great and relaxing, informative, and at the end we felt like we made two new friends. Erica and Erin are professional, affable, honest and informative. From guiding to swapping Big Bend hiking stories and history to geology, they make you feel like family. You can’t go wrong.

We booked a full day float for our family of four with two kids (ages 8&5) and had the best time. Our guide met us on time and explained the next steps and once we got on the river, our kids were in awe. From seeing a squadron of javelinas and stopping “in Mexico” for lunch, the entire day was fantastic. Our guide told us about local plants and animals as well as recommended some good hikes and watering holes in Terlingua. Book your river trip with this group- you won’t be disappointed!!

My son and I kayaked in the Big Bend State Park. The tour chooses the river based on current water levels. They picked us up at the take out point and that was great in that we could leave our dry clothes in the car and we also avoided having to wear our Covid masks all the way there since we didn’t ride in their van. Our guides Josh, Rye and Adam were very safety conscious, pointed out interesting facts and had good stories to tell. They provided us with rubber boots but I advise just wearing some old tennis shoes because the boots filled up with water and were clumsy to walk in. You will get wet but it’s not really uncomfortable. The temperature started at 50 degrees and warmed up to 72 the day we went (between Christmas and New Years) and we didn’t get cold. Between sunlight and paddling, you’ll stay warm.

We did a full day float trip on the Rio Grande with Erin and highly recommend this company. Erin has many years of raft guiding experience and is very knowledgeable and full of stories about history and even geology of the area. We had a great day swimming and rafting on the river! A nice alternative to hiking and we would go with her again!
