You will follow the walls surrounding the Vatican until you arrive at the main entrance of the Vatican Museums. Here you will meet your Official Guide who will be with you throughout the approximately 3 hours of visit.Your guide will lead you to discover all the secrets of Michelangelo’s breathtaking masterpiece, the Sistine Chapel, in a very intimate way. The visit continues along the Vatican Galleries, including Raphael’s with his frescoes and among them his masterpiece, The School of Athens. Finally, you will visit the Basilica of St. Peter, where your official guide will lead you through more than four centuries of history with masterpieces such as Bernini’s Baldacchino and Michelangelo’s Pieta. Please note that if mass is taking place in the Basilica,normally every Wednesday morning,  the entrance may be restricted. Our driver Andrea was excellent!! He arrived early to pick us up and got us back to the port with plenty of time to get back on our ship - while providing bottles of water and air conditioned Mercedes comfort. Andrea got us safely to Rome while pointing out the various sites and explaining the history along the way. Some of the sites Andrea brought us to were the Circus Maximus, Trevi Fountain, lunch at an excellent pizza restaurant, the best gelato at gelateria dei Gracchi, the Pantheon temple, and the Colosseum. Not to be forgotten was our 3 hour visit to the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, St Peter’s Basilica and St. Peter’s Square with an excellent personal guide and skip the line tickets.
This is definitely a 5-star day trip that I would highly recommend!!
