About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- moryp20150 contributionsTransfer from Rome City center to the airportWe were a group of 11 people departing at 530 am from our hotel in Rome to the airport. We were very surprised to find our 2 vans waiting for us when we went downstairs at 5:20 am. Professional, friendly and fast transfers. Definitely the best in Rome. Thanks guys !!!Written November 10, 2024
- Sightseer7648260 contributionsFantastic quick tour of Rome!We had an absolutely wonderful tour! With only about 7 hours on a cruise stopover, we were able to see the catacombs, the colosseum (including the interior), St Peters square, the Trevi fountain, and SO MUCH more. Winding through the small downtown streets and seeing the city view from an elevated viewpoint were highlights. We learned so much from the excellent commentary from Michele, our very personable driver/guide. We were picked up and dropped off on schedule. We highly recommend this tour company.Written November 7, 2024
- marylous4690 contributionsWalking tour of FlorenceWalking Tour of Florence - We really enjoyed the tour of Florence with our guide Katrina. She was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed her company. We saw the David but also enjoyed other parts of the museum that we might not have known about had Katrina not explained the exhibits to us. We walked around town and she gave teh history and interesting tidbits that, again, we would have missed if we just strolled on our own. She was also able to give us insights on where to shop for gold and leather. I highly recommend!Written November 5, 2024
- pamsB519WV0 contributionsIf you only have a day in Rome, reserving Rome Private Excursions is the way to go!WE LOVED OUR DAY with Sal! It was a wonderful experience and we felt so honored to see so much of Rome in such a short time. He was a walking historian and impressed us all so much with is insights. The day was seamless and our tour of the Vatican was great as well. You run a great company with high quality personnel. The entire day was impressive and one we will all remember for our lifetimes! Thank you for giving us such a great tour guide!!!!Written November 4, 2024
- chrystine s0 contributionsWonderful tourA great day in Rome. Our driver was very helpful, enthusiastic, and flexible. Even added a tour of the Catacombs at the end of the tour. Customized the route to maximize our time. Definitely would recommend to othersWritten November 4, 2024
- 525betsyb0 contributionsRome in a dayWe did a private shore excursion from Civitavecchia titled "Best of Rome & Vatican". The only way to see so much in just 1 day! Carlo was amazing and made sure we enjoyed this beautiful part of Italy without missing a thing. He made stops along the way and was very skilled at explaining the history and importance of the sites. Side note - the crowds at the Vatican Museums made that part not at all enjoyable and I wish we had chosen the inside of the Basilica instead.Written November 3, 2024

- jannagalb0 contributionsThe best of Rome in one day!One of our family members recommended that we contact Rome Private Excursions to have the best experience possible as we were only in Rome for one day. We are so glad we took their advice! Communication with the office was marvelous. They were very accommodating in changing our pickup hotel and kept us updated regarding our reservation with them. Sal, short for Salvatore, picked us up and actually came inside the lobby to greet us and show us to the van. He provided so much historical information as we drove from site to site that we felt well prepared for what we were about to experience. We had clear communication about where and when to meet, and he navigated the crazy Rome traffic with great patience and expertise. The company had also made arrangements for us to have a private tour of the Vatican. We met Paula and had a delightful time going through the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica and much more. She was quick to point out the nuances of the buildings and artwork/artifacts that one would miss if not looking for it, such as the ancient tapestries that move with the viewer! Sal provided water for us in the van and took us to a cafe that had the best sandwiches, and then later he stopped by a little Gelato shop for our pleasure. We had tickets and time to see both the Vatican and the Coliseum, so we did not have to stand in line and got out to stretch our legs and to take the magnitude of the Roman Forum. Communication was clear and concise; arrangements were marvelous, and the history and sites were very well explained, and actually came alive with the level of detail both guides shared. We felt the tour was well worth our time and money and highly recommend this organization and their tours for others.Written October 25, 2024
- Trail048376718070 contributionsPrivate Excursion to AssisiOur private excursion to Assisi was fabulous. We had a great time and enjoyed the day, were on time and found a wonderful place to eat with a gorgeous view. We loved that we were able to learn more about the area from our driver and see the countryside. It was one of the best days of our trip. We would definitely recommend this to others.Written October 25, 2024
- T8186CNtrevorj0 contributionsGreat companyWe had a driver for transport, and he was awesome. Gave us history of the city, and was a great experience. We were picked up from the airport with a sign with our name, and he also took us to the cruise ship three days later. He was early, loaded the bags, polite, and made the trip very smooth. We will use them again when we go back.Written October 21, 2024
- L8168SBritas0 contributionsBest Value vs. Cruise Ship Excursions ... and wayyyy better!Highly recommend this group. We booked 3 experiences while cruising the Mediterranean, one from Livorno to Pisa/Florence, another from Civitavecchia to Rome and the Vatican, and from Naples to Amalfi Coast and Pompeii. At each port, we were greeted by our driver who all spoke wonderful English and provided us with so much information during our drives. I was a little concerned about booking excursions privately vs. through the cruise ship, but definitely was the best money spent! We had some delicious food at each stop, rode in a nice spacious vehicle, and were returned back to our ship in plenty of time after spending a full day exploring!!Written October 21, 2024
- jaimew4160 contributionsTour of Rome - Better than we imagined!Luca and his company set up a wonderful full day tour for 4 of us. We had limited time so it was great! We got to see so much and the guide was fun and friendly! RPE also picked us up and took us to the hotel from the airport the day before and took us from port to hotel the day after! Will definitely book with them again!Written October 21, 2024

We had Johnny as our guide - we had him two years ago as our guide in Rome and could not be happier to see him again. He is so informative and entertaining. We love his stories and bottomless fount of information. The views of both cities were spectacular! Before we arrived at each location, Johnny provided us with great background information so we could make the most of our visit. Cannot say enough good things about him!!

We booked Rome Private Excursions well in advance of our arrival on the Vision of the Seas not really knowing what we wanted to see. My wife and I had previously done a tour of Rome's must sees, so wanted something different, whereas our adult children and their partners wanted to redo the classic Rome sights. At this point we were dealing with Luca, who is extremely professional and responsive to any and all email queries.
The day we docked in Civitavecchia we were greeted on the quayside by our two drivers (John and Manny) and went our separate ways. By all accounts the kids had an amazing journey with John, seeing the important sights and enjoying a classic Lazio style lunch. They were full of praise for his knowledge of ancient Rome and the easy manner in which they could relate to him.
Manny took my wife and I to Tarquina, the ancient Etruscan village North or Rome, where we could see the necropolis and the old church. The church's caretaker was happy to give us (the only tourists around) a brief overview of the church and some of the original mosaics dating back hundred of years (he also sang us a classical Italian song on his quitar showing off the amazing accoustics of the church).
We decided that we wanted to go to someplace that was far less touristy and so Manny recommended we go to Orvieto. To get there requires a drive from the Lazio province into Tuscany, which takes about an hour. This enabled us to see more of the rural countryside which is often missed when doing shore excursions from cruise ships. Orvieto is a beautiful medieval town located on a hilltop. There is a large basilica, built from white, pink, gold and black marble which dominates the main square and then the narrow streets through the old town, with equally narrow lanes branching off it.
Our brief to Manny at the start of our tour had been that we above all else wanted a "local lunch", with what can only be described as "local knowledge" he delivered. We had lunch in a great little restaurant up one of the little lanes where the food was fresh, authentic and distinctly "of the region".
Manny was also a great guide in terms of the history of the places we not only went to, but drove past en-route.
I would highly recommend Rome Private Excursions for their professional approach and excellent guides/drivers.
