If you saw the film you could not have forgotten this phrase and the scene to which it was linked. It is said that director Ridley Scott has examined many areas to choose where to shoot some of the film's most intense and evocative scenes. And what background could have been more perfect to accompany these moments of Massimo Decimo Meridio's life than the paradisiacal landscape of these gentle Tuscan hills where earthly life is combined with a dimension without space and time? The challenge was to look for a place that looked like a paradise, albeit on earth. The director had no doubts and chose this part of the Val D’Orcia, where the sweetness and charm of the territory would have perfectly accompanied those moments of intense serenity and peace linked to the personal and family life of the protagonist. The Tour will start at 9:30 am, we will be at the Chiusi train station, easily reachable by car or by train from both Rome and Florence. From there we will leave for Pienza, a charming village widely known as the "ideal" city of the Renaissance, created by the great humanist Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who later became Pope Pius II. Piccolomini had the economic possibilities and the influence to be able to transform Corsignano, the humble village in which he was born, into what he believed should be a utopian city that should have embodied the principles and philosophy of the classical age and of the great Italian Renaissance . We will then take the Vespas and we will immerse ourselves in the splendid panorama of the Val d'Orcia, inserted in the World Heritage List by Unesco in 2004. The Val d'Orcia is a combination of art and landscape, is geographical space and ecosystem, is the expression of wonderful natural features and an exceptional example of how the natural landscape has been redesigned in the Renaissance and reflects the ideals of "good governance" typical of the Italian city-state. Walking along white and suggestive roads we will reach the small Chapel of the Madonna di Vitaleta, which framed between two rows of cypress trees, has become the protagonist of one of the most famous landscapes in the world. We will continue on along dirt roads immersed in the gullies and we will arrive at Bagno Vignoni, a small and characteristic village where thermal water gushes out right in the center of the town, creating a fairytale atmosphere. Around the pool there are Renaissance buildings and loggias, and in the evening the steam rising from the pool merges with the fog, climbing up to the porticoes of the elegant buildings. We will make a stop for a break lunch with tasting of typical Tuscan cheeses and meats and then we will leave to arrive and walk the most exciting points of the tour: the Road of the Gladiator. An unmistakable landscape that is found right here in Val D'Orcia. A beautiful rural setting where some of the film's most intense and moving scenes were shot. We will then continue along the dirt roads of the Val d’Orcia until we return to Pienza. The tour will be made on E-bike. It's an extraordinary tour that will make you live an unforgettable day, don't lose it!Read more
