About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Vincent I0 contributionsThe guide didn't even turn upI went to the venue and then found I had received a text saying the tour was cancelled. Now I've got to struggle to get a refundWritten October 29, 2024
- Shaiheim A0 contributionsGet tickets from official websiteTour operator told us on the day that we were scheduled to go that they couldn't get tickets for us and that we had to contact them directly to get a refund. No point booking through them might as well go on the official website and guarantee your tickets on there, waste of time doing it here. The Castel itself is a great piece of historyWritten October 26, 2024
- 168SusanS0 contributionsFabulous Ferragamo! A must do in FlorenceExceeded my expectations. Such a thoughtfully-curated exhibition full of information as well as an artful journey through the Ferragamo design process. And of course, the shoes! The photography of old Hollywood is incredible. Highly recommend if you are a lover of shoes or design or fashion. Beautiful building too and a central location. Book ahead and allow at least an hour. I was there for 90 minutes.Written October 25, 2024
- dorothym6830 contributionsSCAM ARTISTSI am outraged. You are scam SCAM ARTISTS. After booking months in advance, 24 hours before our booking you advise you cannot get tickets after saying “you will accept our terms or else!” And now you want ME to arrange a refund after YOU cancel. Ridiculous. Do NOT use this tour operator.Written October 23, 2024
- S1531GFrobertb0 contributionsThe angel bridge is undergoing work and not visible but the Castel is impressive and still worth a visit. Our apartment was close to Castel Sant'Angelo so we passed it every day. The skip the line ticket was great and we accessed everything from below ground to the roof. It was far more interesting and varied than we'd expected as it has a great history. Worth learning more about it beforehand if you don't book a guide. The views from the roof across Rome were amazing. Visit took about 90 minutes, and we loved it. Couldn't rate this a 5 as the bridge leading to Castel was boarded both sides, and all the angels were under scaffold and covers, undergoing work for the Jubilee next year. Don't understand why the whole of Rome is currently undergoing work at the same time, and many landmarks such as fountains not fully visible. Would have been great to get the full effect of the Castel from the angel lined bridge. However, we got great photos day and night from all angles, of the Castel. Impressive, and the musicians and artists around the area made it a pleasant place to visit, followed by a riverside walk.Written October 21, 2024
- Jose P0 contributionsGreat view of Rome, well located, the River and the Vaticano are really close. The history of the place is good too.Better than expected, I thought the building would be more deteriorated. A little hot in the museum rooms and the bar/ cafeteria was closed.Written October 12, 2024
- Sonia K0 contributionsWorth every cent! The ticket got us entry to every part and was worth every cent! It was a fabulous tour and we couldn’t have been happier. Only critique is that there was no address on the ticket and being a tourist just meant that I had to have access to the internet to look it up. Minor but would have been easier to have it on there.Written October 6, 2024
- O3871SJireneb0 contributionsBummed in Florence with ticket cancellationTickets for this tour were purchased in June 2024 through the Trip Advisor app with Viator as the provider and Weekend in Italy as the local tour company for an Oct 3 visit. We were so excited to see the David in Florence & planned for this event celebrating our 36th wedding anniversary far in advance. I contacted the local tour operator a couple months ahead of our trip to ask about voucher redemption and was told to check for an email a couple days prior to our tour date for a timed entry voucher. When I did not receive a message by Oct 1, I contacted the local company again but received an email on Oct 2 & the day before our tour the local company cancelling our reservation stating they were unable to provide us our tickets due to high demand. We were unable to obtain substitute tickets from the museum site or other vendors for any of our remaining days in Florence as this attraction sells out far in advance. We were so disappointed that Trip Advisor contracts with this shoddy operator and know now to book tickets on the local attraction sites and not through Trip Advisor & Viator. We were refunded our ticket fee but we would have much preferred to visit the Gallery & the David statue as we even booked our accommodation just down the street from the museum for easy access. We had no other problems with our other Trip Advisor bookings for this trip, but this was such a monumental disappointment as we are both in our 60’s & will likely not be able to visit Florence again. Bummed.Written October 4, 2024
- F5467BHstevew0 contributionsTook my money and didn’t deliverThey cancelled on us the day before we got to Florence stating that they couldn’t acquire any tickets for our reserved time, this was a non refundable purchase and I am out $91 for 2 tickets. Poor serviceWritten October 2, 2024
- yokos8320 contributionsNot worth of money and timeI went at 9:15am 9-15-24. Not crowded at all. Only few visitors were there. You do not need a skip-the-line ticket. You can go and get a ticket and enter. That is much cheaper. I felt I rather waisted money. I also learned after I bought a ticket that Leonard’s Virtuviral man has not been exhibited for a while. I was really disappointed. .Written September 30, 2024
- 378nedg0 contributionsFabulous gallery! This is an outstanding collection of art housed in a magnificent palazzo! There are knowledgeable art historians in every room to answer questions about the paintings, sculptures and the rooms. Wonderful views across Rome from the beautiful gardens. We were fortunate to be able to buy tickets at the door, because Viator failed to timely deliver tickets to us which we purchased more than a month prior to our trip. Viator did not tell us they had not purchased tickets for our scheduled day until the day before our entry. Do not buy a voucher from Viatar to see this gallery--you are better off going by the gallery and making the purchase yourself.Written September 29, 2024
- 730alexs0 contributionsTerrible local tour provider and messy communication with TripadvisorFirst of all, I never received actual tickets by email, I had only original voucher from Tripadvisor/Viator. Just a day before this tour was planned, I got a message from a local tour operator (Maria) that this tour is cancelled due to their inability to get an access to Montreale on that day. This message was sent to the internal Viator mailbox and I got it just by accident. The message recommended to contact Tripadvisor immediately to request a full refund. When I tried to this online, even though the tour was cancelled by the provider, the text on the screen warned that if I push cancel, no refund will be issued. I called local provider (Palermo) and he again said I have to contact Tripadvisor as they have my money and they should refund to my credit card. I asked him if they will inform Tripadvisor about this situation themselves, but his answer was confusing. Now, I really do not know how to contact the Tripadvisor/Viator help desk to resolve this issue. Please, send me an explanation on my next steps using my email address from my account and message on my Iphone.Written September 28, 2024
- Joan C0 contributionsA little-known Roman jewelWe have visited Rome many times but only learned of this amazing family-owned (and still family-inhabited) palace on this trip. It is an incredibly beautiful place filled with gorgeous treasures. Our guide, Rossella, led our group of two couples along with about ten others throughout the palace and both entertained us and filled us with knowledge and family history on the two hour English tour. This is a unique site which contains artwork and treasures not found anywhere else in Rome. We saw works by major and minor artists which spanned history from Ancient Rome to the twentieth century, including family photographs of the current prince and his parents and grandparents. The professionalism of the public-facing staff, the care and respect for the palace and its beautiful gardens with its views of the city reflect the love of both the family and the staff for this incredible jewel of Rome.Written September 27, 2024

- Climber180674536300 contributionsMedici ChapelOf course the Medici Chapel was amazing. Word of warning. I reserved skip-the-line tickets about 6 weeks before going to Florence. Trip Advisor reported that my tickets were confirmed but that I wouldn't receive the tickets until 2 days before the date to see the site. Then 2 days before, I was notified that due to scheduling issues, I wouldn't get my tickets!! Blew my travel schedule. But.... I went over to the Medici Chapel and bought tickets and got right in!!! There were few people in the line. If you find yourself in this situation of not getting the actual tickets, don't count on it and chances are that you can buy tickets on site.Written September 25, 2024

We are currently staying in Caserta for 2 months so we are taking our time to visit .
We went to the palace twice : one time to visit the gardens and another one, to visite the castle itself.
cost : 15 euros per person for the castle and the gardens.
The gardens: We went their on a very hot day and it was refreshing. It is well kept. Of course, you can't walk on the grass for obvious reasons, if you do you will be whistled at by the surveillance guy. We chose to walk all the way up to the waterfalls but you can rent a electric bycicle or take a shuttle. We chose to walk uphill and then we went on the right, in the english garden. (We even walked barefeet their, an amazing feeling. ) It smelled so good outside ! (3 hours walk, slow paced and we didn't see everything. You really need to take your time, it's extremely relaxing)
the Castle: the architecture is magnificent especially the entrance , the big hallway. The rooms are beautiful, there are not many furnitures. What you'll see the most is the architecture, the embellishment, lots of paintings... You don't get to see how people lived in this time or what dresses they wore. You don't get the feeling of the life from before. (which i would love to see )It took us about 2 hours to visit and it was enough for me.
I would say that you'd need a whole day to visit the gardens and the palace. Bring food and drinks and eat in the gardens, rest under the trees . The garden is big enough not to be seen by a gard ;)

We visited Palazzo Castera which was very grand, but the gardens are outstanding. From the back of the palazzo to the very end where the waterfall starts is a distance is Three kilometres. Thank god they have a little shuttle bus service for E2.50 return. From the spectacular waterfall and statues in the first lake and running down in a series of step down waterfalls with two other holding ponds also with spectacular statues it must be seen to be believed.

We travelled to Caserta by train from Naples Central. Using our Artcard travel and entrance cost us nothing extra. Train services are frequent but for some reason we couldn't find a train between 9 and 11. Never mind the journey is only 40 minutes. The palace is directly opposite the main entrance to the station. The palace was built to rival Versailles, the external architecture is nothing special but inside the state rooms are very impressive. Even more impressive is the long water gardens. We reckoned it was about a mile to the end of the water feature and obviously a mile back. It was a very pleasant walk. If it is too far for you then you can get a minibus for 2.50 Euros. The café and restaurant in the palace are nothing to write home about but you can get a quick snack. We left Naples at just after 11am and were back at Naples station just after 5pm after an enjoyable trip.

This is one very impressive Palace and we only found out about it because of a simple picture we saw in an elevator at our hotel!!
You will need at least 2 hours and I would suggest more like 4 to see most of it. The walk from the palace to the end of the water feature will take you.......forever!! Pay the 3 euros and get the bus or hire a e-bike. When at the top of the water feature, walk through the gates to the right and then turn left. Very interesting walk.
The palace is simply mind blowing!!! Go see it, you will enjoy it.

It is big. It can rival other palaces and large stately homes. But somehow it doesn’t and leaves you feeling, okay, I’ve been, but probably won’t come back again.
So why? Well, if you aren’t Italian this place is not really set up for you. Minimal signage, chaotic Italian way of doing things (12 people dealing with queue, not one bothered about informing what is going on). The gardens - large, but rather uninspiring - broken benches, unkept grass, minimal signs and no maps or leaflets to guide you around. There is no atmosphere and you might as well be in a large park.
The inside - some grand rooms, paintings and stuff. No further description as we found it hard to get excited - some signs in English (or Italian), not leaflets to guide you, and no furniture to bring it alive. Again, size is impressive but there is no atmosphere. They just don’t seem bothered bringing the place alive.
And that brings us on to why I’m even more disappointed. Unbeknownst to us, it was a free day at the Palace. Hundreds of people formed a queue (loosely defined) as we waited for 90 minutes to get in - but were not allowed to go or pay to get in the gardens. We were told to go back to the queue and wait until 1330. We had arrived at 1040... most staff were rude or disinterested as we were prevented to go to shops or toilets. We did eventually get in to the apartments after queuing again. But putting this aside, it turned out to be a family national museum day, with one of the aims of getting children interested. Well, this place has no real skill in doing this - I would be bored as a child, and when you compare it to how other places bring things alive, this Palace fails spectacularly. No music, no costumes, no face painting, no leaflets or activities, no obvious children trails, no fun or atmosphere.
Compared to those stately homes in the UK, or Versailles, or other Royal Palaces (Copenhagen and many others), it disappoints but could, and should, be so much more than they’ve done with it. I’d heard it might be a UNESCO site - I can’t think of another I’ve left so underwhelmed.
Advice - come on a quiet day, be impressed with size but keep expectations on atmosphere and learning to a realistic level. And one really not for the young or easily distracted.

We heard about this palace in a documentary on French television and were intrigued to visit it. The magnitude of this palace and the gardens are incredible.
We hired an audioguide which was very helpful, even if numbering did not follow the route (they must have changed the walkway, without adjusting the numbers)
For people with limited ability, the good news is that disabled people do not have to pay entrance, the bad news is that the distance between parking and entrance is very far. Combined with the walk in this large palace, it was tough to get to the end. Fortunately some chairs for the guards were not always occupied, so I could use them as a rest.

It wasn't clear to us on how to get in with the vouchers and the people at the ticket office was just as confused as we were. We had to buy our tickets to get in as a result - the place itself was magnificent only negative was paying twice - it has happened on 3 occasions now that we weren't able to use the downloaded entry vouchers from yourselves

I will be in Caserta June 24 thru the 26 and would like to come visit. It looks like most of the tours are booked up, but I want to purchase tickets now for the palace and gardens. Any advice please?

Well l’ve just been (May 23) and there was no queue and no problem getting in. Don’t pay a premium for booked tours - it’s a scam!
Entrance is now €14 for palace and gardens, even though the website says €12. The theatre there is only open Fri-Sun.
Very easy to get there by train from Naples Central as the palace is right by the station of Caserta. You can tour the gardens by bike, minibus or horse and carriage. Allow 4 hours to see the whole thing without rushing.
See my review.
