About
Wadi Shab is a very popular popular outdoor attraction in Oman for both locals and expats, and people go there for nature, to swim in the fresh water pools or just to have a barbecue. The main attraction of the wadi is the waterfall in the cave, which you can reach after a roughly 40 mins hike and swimming in 2-3 pools. People love going to this wadi because the pools are always full of clear blue water! Group tour in Wadi Shab involves a passage through the gorge. We recommend to have sneakers or special shoes with non-slip soles. We also recommend to have Slippers crocs type for a comfortable transition on a large round pebble. Please note that the tour is for the whole day (9: 00-18: 00) time for pick up and drop off not included Lunch and refreshments are included.

Highly recommended, no scam and great guide
Great insights from our guide Abulaziz. Fun in dessert with dune bashing, not too touristic bendouin family coffee time, beautiful wadi bani khaled, and an extra Arabic pan cake as highway stop. Would alswaya do that again!

The tour was excellente in particular Nizwa city and fort, the landsapes, the mountains. Misfat al Abriyeen is a wonderful village on slopes of the mountains with a beautiful farm. Our guide / driver was very profissional, excellente. He provided us with a lot of information and good advise. We became good friends during the tour. An absolute must-do when in Oman!
Amazing experience and definitely the highlight of our trip to Oman! It is worth noticing that the hike can be pretty challenging and the entrance to the cave is not for claustrophobic people.

Two very different experiences on a fabulous day trip
We met Fahar at 8 having booked again through Viator with this tour arranged by GidOman. We drove to pick up another couple and started the two hour drive to the south east. Fahar was another steady driver and gave us plenty of information about the country although I did nod off for part of the drive! The roads are quite amazing here, sheared through the rock and excellent quality. The signs and directions are all in English and Arabic and driving seems very chilled, no beeping, people obeying lights and even using indicators! I can imagine that the roads have really opened up access to the country and encouraged both industry and development outside the capital. First stop was the wadi at Bani Khalid. Fahar was telling us about the flooding last month with a French honeymoon couple killed in a flash flood and 1m of rain falling in an hour! We drove through some minor fords before parking up and walking along the aflaj (irrigation system) to the wadi proper. We were very unsure about this trip but luckily the other couple were like us so we skipped the camel ride and none of us went for a swim either! It was quite lucky we hadn't planned to in fact as both men and women had to wear tshirt and shorts in the pools which we wouldn't have been prepared for. I walked as far up the wadi as you could and it was a beautiful hike although the rock was quite treacherous in places and there was certainly nowhere to go if there was a flash flood. Deb stopped at one of the pools and dipped her feet in and lots of fish swam up to clean them for her, a mini pedicure. The frogs here were incredibly vocal but I only saw one of them and it was about the size of a doormouse and there were lots of large dragonflies. We then wandered back to the more open area where there was a cafe and were actually able to get an ice cream, kindly paid for by Fahar. A few people were paddling and one actually swimming but most seemed to just be enjoying the peace and the view. We returned to the car and drove a short distance to Bidiyah to get the tyres deflated ready for the desert. There then followed some driving to show us what angles the 4*4 could drive out and how to take the steep ridges without launching over the top. We passed several small camp sites, some hobbled camels and a few other 4*4s before stopping so we could get out and have a wander. The sand was amazingly fine but a lot easier to walk on than expected and it was beautiful to see actual sand dunes. It was also rather hot! We spent maybe 15 minutes walking up and down dunes and taking photos before returning to the car. After reinflating the tires we drove back to Muscat and stopped at a date shop to get some Fardh dates - apparently low sugar and high fibre so if that works we'll get those regularly. A lot of driving for being outside the car less than 2 hours but two very different experiences and well worth the time. Especially as we were dozing rather than driving!

Fantastic tour of Nizwa and Al Hamra
We did tour of Nizwa and Al Hamra on 2 February. Our guide Mohammed came to pick up us to our hotel at precise time. The vehicle was in excellent condition.First we visited Nizwa animal market which was full of frantic buying and selling of different animals like goats, calves, sheep etc Since it was Friday there was heavy rush and it was difficult to get parking place and move freely. At the same place we visited Dates market, pottery markets and fruit and vegetable markets. Our guide Mohammed showed us all places and gave detailed information of each location. Mr Mohammed was very knowledgeable and helpful guide .We enjoyed visiting Nizwa fort and palace and exhibits displayed there. Our visit to Old Al Hamra was very informative. The ground plus three story old house was very interesting.

        Great Experience
Went on the full day Wadi Shab Bimmah Sinkhole tour. Pick up direct from hotel was on time, our driver and guide Mahmood was excellent, full of fun and looked after us well. Experience itself well worth it, a great day out if you enjoy a good hike, swimming and fun. The scenery is unreal, the last cave and fountain worth all the effort to get there. Everyone on the trip were so friendly and I enjoyed every minute of it, and to finish off with an Omani meal in a local restaurant and stop off for tea and sweets on the way home. A great day, a great experience always to be remembered. Thank you Mahmood

This is not a Wadi Shab and Bimmah Sinkhole tour - it is just a Wadi Shab tour where they visit Bimmah Sinkhole at the very end of the day when the whole place is in shadow and doesn't look anything like it does in the middle of the day. I had booked this tour for the Bimmah Sinkhole part of it but it's clear they have just added a quick stop in late in the afternoon (4pm) to try and say they do more than what they do. I was so disappointed. The tour gave me a full refund and I had to use that money to pay for a driver to take me back to Bimmah Sinkhole another day to see it properly. The hike also does not need a guide as it is flat, easy to follow and there are many other tourists there so you won't get lost. I was really disappointed in this day. If you want a guided hike do it, if you want to see Bimmah Sinkhole avoid it completely.

Dear Sarah Latham Thank you for review, As we discussed before in WhatsApp, group tours can’t be 100 percent on perfect timing, as our clients are in different hotels, and this is known globally, moreover our tour is mainly Wadi Shaab as it require more time and depends on clients fitness to swim, walk and hike through the Wadi, where sink hole requires max of 45 minutes to visit, we understand that you were not satisfied, therefore we provided a full refund on the same day you raised your complaint on WhatsApp, because we operate at 100% customers satisfaction, as well you asked for a private tour after the refund with same amount of a group tour, nevertheless we tried to arrange for you but unfortunately as I mentioned in our chat before we were fully booked for private tours on the day you chose. To conclude, we had more than 10 clients with your group that day and non compliant, on the contrary some left great feedbacks. Regards, Gid Team

While one of the closest wadis to Muscat there is a ~45 minute hike from the parking area (after a very short boat ride) to the Wadi. While the hike is not strenuous it is largely going up/down rocky terrain that can be slippery and does follow the cliff edge in places. Whatever shoes you choose to wear should have very good grip but also be able to get wet as you will need to keep them on within the Wadi as well. The wadi itself is made of three interconnected pools which you swim/climb/dive to get between. You are only able to touch the bottom in a handful of places so I wouldn't recommend for non-confident swimmers even though lifejackets can be rented at the carpark area. Make sure you go all the way to the end to enjoy the waterfall inside the cave! Best to change into swimwear at the carpark public toilets and leave dry clothes in the car to change into. Our guide Mahmood is clearly very experienced with the area and helped not only our group but others along the way to navigate both the hike and swimming/hiking within the wadi itself. He ensured everyone had proper shoes (he had a collection available for those that didn't have any of their own), camera cases if requested and lifejackets for those who felt a little uneasy. Mahmood made sure we all had plenty of water but also a few snacks to keep out energy up. The local shared lunch was very enjoyable. The sinkhole was interesting to see and while you could swim it was nothing compared to the Wadi, so no surprise that much less time was spent there. Mahmood was extremely friendly and answered our questions along the way as well as going above and beyond to stop for camels on the drive back (there was one person in our group who had never seen them) as well as ensure that those flying out that night made it back in time.

Thank you for sharing such a comprehensive review of your Wadi experience! It sounds like you had an eventful and exciting day. Negotiating the rocky terrain and pools within the Wadi can indeed require good footwear and some swimming prowess, and it's wonderful that Mahmood, your guide, was well-prepared and experienced in assisting everyone along the way. We're pleased to hear that Mahmood ensured everyone's safety and comfort, providing essentials like proper shoes, camera cases, and life jackets, and even arranging stops for unique experiences like spotting camels. It's heartening to know that you enjoyed the shared lunch and appreciated Mahmood's friendly and informative guidance throughout the tour. Thank you for choosing our tour, and we hope the memories of the Wadi, the cave waterfall, and the overall experience stay with you for a long time. We'd love to welcome you back for more adventures in the future! Safe travels!

Our guide Mahmood really made the difference. He was kind and looked after all of us well, helping us find a safe route and how to navigate the boulders and pools of water.

Unfortunately because it rained the day before, the areas where we could swim were murky. That was a disappointment but the hike there was really beautiful.

The instructions should be more clear. You should wear flat sandals that you can get wet, dry, wet etc. Other people in the group had water shoes but said it was uncomfortable because small rocks will get into your shoes. Ensure you have good grip because it's slippery. You need good knees. Highly recommend renting lifejacket for 1 Rial even if you are a strong swimmer as you need to swim for 10-15mins to reach the cave. You can purchase a waterproof phone case for 2 Rial before catching the boat. Bring 1L of water at least.

My reason for 4 stars not 5 is the cost, just feels a little expensive for $105USD compared to other tours I have done in Oman. But I would give 5 stars for my guide Mahmood.

Thank you for taking the time to provide such a detailed and thoughtful review. It's great to hear that Mahmood played a crucial role in enhancing your tour experience with his kindness and guidance. We understand that the murky water due to the rain was a disappointment, but we're glad you found the hike beautiful. Your feedback on the instructions and recommendations for future visitors is incredibly valuable. It helps us improve and provide more precise information for our guests. The tips about footwear, renting a lifejacket, and bringing sufficient water will surely benefit others. Regarding the cost, we appreciate your honesty and will take this into consideration as we continually strive to balance price with the value offered. It's heartening to know that Mahmood's efforts were worthy of a 5-star rating, and we'll be sure to pass on your kind words to him. Thank you again for choosing our tour and for your recommendation. We're delighted you had a generally positive experience and hope to have the opportunity to fully meet your expectations in the future.

This is a very nice tour. The scenery is beautiful. Our guide and driver Mohmood is very helpful, to help us on the hiking trail and when we swim in the slippery areas and going through the very narrow passageway in the water. We spent a lot of time trying to figure out the logistics and what to bring for the day, so let me summarize below for future travelers. First, you can buy or rent water shoes, water proof phone case, dry bags, and life jacket there. The guide also can give you water shoes. No need to buy in advance like what we did. It is better to put on the bathing suit at the hotel. You first hike 45 minutes on the mountain road, and you need good anti-slipping hiking shoes. Then you arrive at the pool. You can leave your clothes and hiking shoes at the beginning of the pool. If you want to carry your valuables with you, you will need a dry bag to carry with you while you swim. You also need a water proof phone case to carry your phone to take pictures. The first pool is easy. The second pool is very slippery, and you definitely need a good pair of anti-slipping water shoes as you will also need to walk on pebble road between the pools, The best is the third pool. You will pass a very narrow passageway, allowing only one person at a time, then you will enter the final cave with the water fall. Make sure to go inside the cave behind the waterfall, where you will see the magic turquoise color of water from there. Then go back the same way as you come in. Put on your hiking clothes and shoes (there is no place to change at the pool), and hike back 45 minutes. The trip is quite tiring. Even the young people in our group were all passed out on the way back. But it is a worthwhile trip!

Thank you for sharing such a detailed account of your experience! It sounds like a challenging yet rewarding journey at Wadi Shab with Mohmood's assistance. Your insights and tips for future travelers are incredibly valuable, from what to bring to the specifics of navigating the pools and trails. It's great advice to utilize the options for renting or buying essentials there and to plan ahead by wearing appropriate attire and carrying valuables in dry bags. The description of the pools, their challenges, and the magical experience within the cave behind the waterfall is truly captivating. Acknowledging the physical exertion required, yet emphasizing its worthiness, provides a balanced perspective for future adventurers. We appreciate your thoroughness in recounting your experience, and we hope it helps others prepare for this memorable journey! If there's anything else we can assist you with, please feel free to let us know.

Our guide Ilyas collected the 4 of us from our hotel and after picking up 1 more person we set off collecting karakchai tea and water on the way. Walking the Wadi on a hot day was quite difficult, scrambling over boulders and balancing along channels but the pools for swimming made it all worthwhile, the walk back did seem easier. We then drove for lunch, a magnificent spread of beef, chicken, tuna, vegetable curry, 3 different rices and salad washed down with pomegranate juice, delicious. Then on to Bimmah Sinkhole where we decided not to swim but sat on rocks and let the little fish tickle our feet.
On the return home more karakchai and water was provided. Ilyas was a great guide, very informative about Omani life and a lovely companion. Thank you Ilyas.

Excellent excursion! The walk is not steep but uneven or wet in places. Wear (or change behind a rock) your swim clothing up to the water pools. Request a swim vest if you don’t want to tread water while enjoying the pools and the “cave” pool. The cave is made by huge piled rocks — it’s not dark inside. However, the water passage to it is narrow. The excursion is worthwhile even without entering the cave. There’s a rope/jump inside the “cave”. Bring yourself a snack. The guide stops along the way where water shoes and waterproof cel phone cases are available for sale. A restaurant meal is included after the hike/swim. The sinkhole is an unexpected surprise. Enjoy fish nibbling your toes! I was a wonderful day out of town and getting to know the other people on the tour. Our guide took care of us throughout.

Everything about this trip was great! Maybe I was also very lucky as the group of people I found myself with was very international and a lot of fun (we were 10 in total). Everyone got on from the start. Our tour guide Ilia (originally from Russia but lives in Muscat many year years now) was very entertaining, professional and if you had a question he had the answer 😀 He also has a lot of anecdotes and tips about Muscat and Oman in general. I contacted the company directly as my hotel wasn't on the pick up list and they were very quick to reply. They use WhatsApp which is awesome if you have queries or need quick questions without having to call the local number.

The bus trip is about 1h30mns to get to the Wadi and we stopped for a quick coffee half way. The hike to the Wadi is for everyone although it cab get very slippery so you need good shoes. It takes roughly 50mns to get there at a normal "taking lots of pictures" kind of pace 😁 If you want to swim to the underground cave, you will need to bring a waterproof case for your phone (pictures are worth it!) and some water shoes (the pebbles can get painful).

After the hike, back on the bus for a spot of lunch at a VERY local restaurant... you won't get more local than this place 🤣 BUT don't judge a book by its cover...the food is excellent 👌

After lunch we drove back towards Muscat and stopped at our last sightseeing spot The Bimmah Sinhole and WOW.

Basically if you like what you see on the pictures about the Wadi and the Sinkhole you will get it 3 times over when you see it live!

great tour, a must-do when you are in Oman :)
we were only 5 people on the group tour. we started with Wadi Shab, takes a short boat ride (1min) and a 45min hike until you reach the pools, from there you have to swim (water is warm and only a few parts where you can´t stand anymore, some parts are slippery so best is to wear swim shoes, we got them from our tour guide)
at the end, there is a cave that you enter through a small tunnel but it´s stunning inside! small waterfall inside the cave
its nice to have a tour guide who can tell a bit about the Wadi (and you can ask all questions)
after the tour we had lunch in a local restaurant which was also delicious. last stop was at the sinkhole, where we stopped for another 35min.
dont forget to bring a waterproof case for your phone, you will definitely want to take pictures there!

Thank you for sharing your experience with our tour! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the intimate group setting and found the Wadi Shab tour to be a must-do in Oman. Your description of the boat ride, hike, and the swimming through the pools to the stunning cave with its small waterfall paints a vivid picture of the adventure. It's great to know that our tour guide provided helpful swim shoes and that you appreciated having someone to share information and answer questions about the Wadi. We're also pleased to hear that you enjoyed the local cuisine at lunch and the visit to the sinkhole. Your advice about bringing a waterproof case for a phone is invaluable for future visitors who surely wouldn't want to miss capturing those memories. Thank you for choosing our tour, and we hope to provide you with more memorable experiences in the future.

Wadi Shab is simply an amazing place! You first have to take a small canoe to cross the river, than you have to walk 45 minutes through a very beautiful valley, plenty of tropical fruit trees (bananas, mangoes, papayas, dates). When we went it was quite hot (above 36°C) and humid, but the effort is more than worth: you cross three lakes swimming and then you get to a cave with a waterfall inside, a magical place, almost out of this world. I really would advise not to miss this experience! Take swimming shoes with you (rocks are slippery when entering and exiting the lakes) and, very important, a water-proof case for the mobile, to be able to make pictures. After a tasty lunch at a local restaurant we went to the Bimmah Sink hole, where we took a long bath in the warm, salty water and let the small fish massage our feet. A wonderful experience also due to Abdullah, our guide, who managed everything perfectly, including snacks and water for after the swim.

One of the best adventures I have ever booked. From start to finish I felt taken care of! The communication prior through WhatsApp was helpful and appreciated. The pickup at my hotel was timely and welcoming. Abdurhman was the quintessential guide! He was fun and friendly with constant care directed toward our group. He encouraged us to explore at our own pace and never rushed any experience. He made a group of strangers feel like friends and even provided a little surprise treat at the end of an exhilarating but exhausting day!

Be prepared for a true hike over slippery and uneven terrain. Pack light and prepare for a good amount of swimming. This is a real outdoor adventure and definitely intermediate to almost proficient skill level in hiking and swimming is needed. But the adventure is completely worth the effort.

As a tour company Gid Oman was a great communicative outfit but their shining star was their guide Abdurhman!
