John is a delightful person to give a tour. He entertains you with his bagpipes, and lovely songs. He is happy to accommodate any changes you want to make on your tour. My sisters and I learned so much about the history of the island and its people. We had a delightful day with John Shakespear, and I would highly recommend him.

John is absolutely amazing!! My sisters and I experienced a half-day tour of the northern part of the IOM and it was an incredible experience!! He is articulate, friendly, skilled in both singing and playing the bagpipes, and, most importantly, he has a vast knowledge of the history of Celts and Vikings on the island followed by the Scottish and English, with an extensive command of more recent history, as well. In addition, he helped us with local logisitics. I think anyone visiting the IOM should have John give them a tour!!

Can't say enough good things about John! We had some last minute scheduling issues and he was a great help getting them resolved. He's very knowledgeable about all things Isle of Man and the TT race. Will definitely use him again when we go back for another trip!! Also want to give a shout out to Dave for helping with the driving, the lap of the Mountain Course with Johns commentary was awesome!! Would definitely recommend!

Our first visit to the Isle of Mann would not have been complete without this fantastic tour! Our guide, John, was a wealth of knowledge. His love for IOM shows in how he explained everything and told of the unique history. He even brought along some items he personally dug up! I absolutely recommend this tour. We had an amazing experience with John. He customized the trip to suit our wishes and showed us places we would never have found on our own. John even brought out his cat-whispering skills to show us a proper Manx cat :) His humour and outgoing personality made this trip the highlight of our stay on Isle of Man.

We just completed 3 weeks of visiting Ireland, London, Scotland and the Ise of Man. During that time we took numerous small group and private tours. John's tour was the absolute best by far. I don't think 5 hours has ever flown by so fast. His love and passion of the island really comes through and is infectious. This is an historic electric tram railway which leaves from Douglas and terminated at Ramsey. It is a lovely was to see the countryside and coast line of the Isle of Man. You can change mid route and travel up Snafell mountain on the narrow gauge railway or get off at various stops such as the Laxey wheel and trail it was £36 return for a couple but it’s quite a long ride - 1 hour fifteen minutes to Ramsey. You could make a day of it getting off at additional stops or going up Snaefell or the Laxey wheel both of which require additional payment. Wrap up if it’s cold and the weather can vary up Snaefell.

If you want to understand the IOM, spend a day with John. He has incredible knowledge and a passion for the island. We learned so much and enjoyed his company. I sent him information about my family and he found all of the important sites. Imagine: I'm standing in front of my great, great grandparents' graves in their churchyard while John plays a tribute to them on the bagpipes. Such a unique and moving experience. I can't recommend this tour highly enough, and I can't wait to return and do it again. You'll be totally blown away by John's energy and breadth of information. Book it!

There have to be more stars for this tour. 3 of us (in our late 60's) were picked up by John at the airport to begin our incredible Isle of Man Tour. Not only does John know all the places of history and beauty on this Island, but he explains all of it artfully. He pulled out all stops on an antique organ for us and played it- and serenaded us with his bagpipes, and identified a hidden refuse tunnel in a castle. We'd mentioned beforehand we were in search of our IOM roots, and he was sure to include stops for our ancestor Iliam Dhone. You will not be disappointed if you book this tour- you will be delighted- probably beyond expectations as we were.

The three of us really enjoyed our trip. John is very knowledgeable about the history of the island and many other aspects of life on the island.

The electric tram was not running when we visited the Isle of Man. Normal buses were few and far apart. Take stout walking shoes
