Castle Lassay is a fortress of the fifteenth century remarkable for its homogeneity and state of preservation. With its eight towers connected by a rampart, its exceptional three-storey defense artillery boulevard and drawbridges, it is a precious witness of the military architecture of the late Middle Ages. His spectacular silouette, reflected by the pond he overlooks, was immortalized by Victor Hugo. As part of the guided tours, you will discover the functioning of a military garrison of the fifteenth century. The guide will open the furnished rooms, bedroom, weapons room, kitchen with its curious granite kitchen garden and a beautiful collection of brass ... At each visit, rare experience, the public is invited to manipulate the drawbridge. The castle is located in the heart of the very pretty Small City of Character of Lassay-les-Châteaux, which also deserves a visit.

Visit one of the best preserved castles in France
This castle has never been extensively remodeled or allowed to become derelict! It has been lived in by generations of the same family, and we shown round by one of the latest generation. The tour was in French although an English guidebook was also provided for those who couldn't follow the commentary. This is the most prominent chateau of the three in Lassay-les-Chateaux and is the only one within a short walk of the town centre.

Fascinating and beautiful town with good shops
We went as a family, having only ever skirted on the bypass, but always thinking next time we will stop. Parking was free and central, and we walked from there through the gardens up to the market (Wednesday mornings). We spent an hour there with plenty to keep us interested including some excellent pain au chocolat. We will go back, and next time we will allow much more time and visit the castles!

    Superb
This castle does not open until 1.30pm - We took a family ticket at 16euros and went on the French guided tour - it is a privately owned Castle so you can not wander around at your leisure - The tour guide spoke French and we had a book given to us so as we could follow what was happening - It was a 30min tour - well worth a go!!

Beautiful castle for a nice trip out
Who likes castles? I do and this was really interesting with an engaging tour guide who rolled back the centuries for us. Like many French castles, it’s been well restored and I think the family still live there. I say ‘think’ because on being asked by the guide which language he should speak, I rashly replied ‘en Francais’ The Castle has never been conquered and stands solid and comfortingly defensive with 8 circular towers. They have the oldest holly tree in France, beautifully decorated rooms and best of all you get to lower the drawbridge! The tour takes about an hour. The guide speaks perfect English. Parking was in a little square nearby (free)

    Great afternoon out
Lovely and very interesting real fifteenth century castle. An enactment going on when we were visiting. Loads of happy jolly French folk enjoying a day of dressing up and fun and games. Would be a good visit even if this wasn’t going on. Worth a walk down to the lake to get an even better view of the castle.

    A lovely french city
My visit to lassay le chateau was not my first but it was the first time for my fiance. I loved the place and hoped he would too. He was so taken by the place he can't wait to go back. The people are so warm and friendly. It makes you feel so at home and relaxed. It has a lovely bar/coffee shop at the head of the square. The chateau and it's surrounding area is so photogenic. There is also a local pub/bar called the Victor Hugo. The manager speaks a little English and makes everyone welcome. All in all its a lovely place and worth a visit.

    Great to visit
This is a well preserved Chateaux, which although small has many turrets. There are tours in French, or you can read all about the place as you walk around it and learn just as much. The kitchen and main hall are both interesting. Afterwards take a walk through the town and visit the rose garden.

    Beautiful, Interesting Château
Today was our 5th or 6th visit. It is such a beautiful chateau and its history is fascinating. The chateau is visited via a guided tour in French accompanied by an English translation booklet. The château is part of a lovely town with a large lake, roseraie and a medieval garden. Totally recommend a visit.

    4 day Normandy visit
Beautiful chateau with a lake, herb garden and town with amenities. Perfect for artists, walkers or just a place to enjoy French food, architecture and history. Have visited in Spring and Autumn and both are naturally beautiful.

    Superb castle
Lovely castle but only accessible with a guided tour. It opened at 2.30 but had to wait quite a long time before a tour started. The tour is in French - English are given a guide book to read as they go round and felt a bit out of the tour. The guide seemed very informative as the tour was quite long it was just a shame we werent able to understand any of it. The castle was interesting, the grounds not particularly wow, and you got to see the Kitchen, Armoury room, bedroom and reception room. The rooms are nice but again not particularly wow. The entrance cost for the castle is 6.50 euros per person.

Worth a visit if you're in the area
Visited here with family and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Such a beautiful old building. It was slightly lacking in English guides, but we managed with the use of the website and online descriptions. We had some friends who visited around the same time and they went on the English tour, which by the sound of it wasn't much different to our experience.

    Beautiful castle
I spent in the Lassay area five days with my wife. Lassay les chateaux is a very nice little village, with a very beautiful castle. It is a private castle, people still live in there. This has a downside that it cannot be entirely visited, but has the advantage that it is perfectly maintained, fully original, so it is probably one the most authentic pieces of 14th and 15th centuries. The price of the ticket is 6 euros with a guide included. From the Castel, there are a number of very nice hikes that go thorught he Lassay areas. Definitely recommended to people that love hiking. Particularly interesting the path of the three castles, which bring you through the Chateau de LAssay, the Chateau the Thiboult and le Chateaux de Saint Marie du Bois. Wonderful! ATTENTION! The area is not very tourist friendly, in the sense that might be hard to find restaurants open, particularly Sunday-Thursday, even in summer. In the area you have the restaurant of chatea (Ok place) othewise I recommend you to go to Bagnoles de l'Orne (30 Km away), where you can find several good restaurants (some of them I reviewed.)

Very good visit in two parts.
The premiere of the castle with Alexandre.
The second of the tower with very difficult stairs with Diwan.
Both guides are very available and answer questions perfectly. Well done to them ☺️👏
The price is 6 euros during heritage days. Both visits are worth it. Leave your stilettos at home 🏰😜
