- bryces9380 contributionsOslo to Flam train and Fyord awesome. This was a long but worthwhile trip to do if in Oslo if here at least 4 days. Our guide Janis was great and gave some good data on Norway. Was about 13 hours total but the train ride was about 3 hours and catamaran ride was 2 hours and we're spectacular. Highlight so far in Norway for us.Written March 19, 2025
- S G0 contributionsBook your trip back to Oslo extra $200Great experience, doesn’t include trip back to Oslo so don’t forget that! You will need to go to the VY app to schedule your train trip back to Oslo by train or flight from Bergen! Add up to $200 more to this.. The night train was super delayed and didn’t get back anytime early! Best to fly out of Bergen after the trip.. faster and about same price as the 7+ hr train back or the 12+ hr bus alternative.. pick the trip that adds the sleepover and ride back! Worth the headache of trying to figure out it yourself! Views were great and worth it just the ride back was the nightmare.. but wonderful trip there!Written November 15, 2024
- F7652NOkevinr0 contributionsThe scenery was pure magicThis trip was magic. We were a bit hesitant about it being self guided. But all of the information, instructions and tickets provided made it very easy to follow. We traveled by train, bus, boat and then train to get back to Bergen where we started. The trip took about 10 hours from 8:00am to 6:15pm. We were kept fascinated with never ending views at each turn. Each one seemingly better than the last. We even saw the tvindefossen waterfall while on the bus leg of our journey. So beautiful. We couldn’t stop taking multiple photos of each highlight, thinking the light or change in angle gave a better shot. I think we are all guilty of that. The whole trip went flawlessly which is a credit to the organiser. We highly recommend you taking this trip. You’ll love every bit of it.Written November 4, 2024

- Gerard P0 contributionsNo logistical planning and a simple magnificent day. This was a well planned day that all fell into place for us without having to do a thing. The sites were beautiful and we just followed the instructions without any problems. There was plenty of time to get to the next train, bus or boat and a guide is not necessary. What a magnificent day and the pictures are all incredible.Written September 28, 2024

- sohoboym0 contributionsYou can do it!The Fjord cruise and trip to Bergen are a must do in an itinerary to Norway. The Oslo Fjord is nice but you’ve missed something if you didn’t see the ones in the west.Written August 31, 2024

- Darryl C0 contributionsDIY fjord trip had challenges but was spectacular !Hi we had a nice trip on the fjord, however it was quite a long trip to Flam via the comfortable ferry. Flam was amazing and sensation views as the weather was sunny for us and we stayed 1 night in the Svengen guesthouse bordering on the Fjord. Sadly the train trip to Oslo was broken up due to previous train being derailed and we had to transfer to VY coaches. We eventually reached Oslo around 7.30pmWritten July 20, 2024

- G654QYralfw0 contributionsTrip Review: Norway by Car, Fjord Cruise, and RailJourney Overview Our adventure began with a road trip from Oslo to Bergen, a route that offered a mix of challenges and breathtaking views. The drive through the mountains was demanding at times, but the rewards were well worth the effort. Driving from Oslo to Bergen Navigating the mountainous terrain posed some challenges, but the experience was ultimately enjoyable. Driving on top of the mountains provided a unique perspective on Norway's stunning landscapes. The winding roads and high altitudes offered unparalleled views, making every twist and turn an adventure in itself. Fjord Cruise Upon reaching Bergen, we embarked on a Fjord Cruise—a must-do for anyone visiting Norway. This cruise was the highlight of our trip, showcasing the raw power and beauty of nature. As we glided through the fjords, surrounded by towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls, we were reminded of how small we are in comparison to the majestic natural world. The fjord cruise is truly a one-of-a-kind experience that leaves a lasting impression. Rail Trip Back to Bergen To balance our day trip, we took the rail back to Bergen. This leg of the journey provided a different but equally captivating perspective of Norway. The train ride allowed us to relax and enjoy the scenery from a comfortable vantage point, showcasing Norway's diverse landscapes and charming countryside. It was a perfect way to conclude our trip, offering a comprehensive view of what Norway has to offer. Final Thoughts Our trip through Norway was an unforgettable blend of challenging drives, awe-inspiring natural beauty, and relaxing rail journeys. Each part of the journey complemented the others, providing a well-rounded and enriching travel experience. If you're planning a trip to Norway, don't miss the opportunity to drive through the mountains, take a fjord cruise, and experience the scenic railways.Written July 11, 2024
- CarleneLawler0 contributionsNorway in 24hrs amazing.Fabulous way to see Norway with not much time. Easy instructions and everything runs right on time. Beautiful scenery. Highly recommend this. We had dinner at Zander Hotel in Bergen while waiting for 11pm sleeper train. Only comment would be on the last train from Voss to Bergen, a lot of people had pre-allocated seats and ours were “ free seating “ which meant we had to keep moving as in someone’s seat. It’s pretty busy so we ended up in the pram area near the doors which wasn’t that comfortable. Would be better to also have had allocated seats for that section (maybe this could be requested). Lastly good tip would be when get off at Flam, immediately go to the opposite platform and queue up right behind any of the painted carriage numbers on the ground (1-9) as it’s a mad rush to get on and find a seat. Only told to do this prior to boarding which meant everyone pushing to start lines.Written July 8, 2024
- YvonneAchieng0 contributionsAmazing fjordsThis was an excellent day trip for my daughter and I to truly appreciate Norway's amazing landscapes. We especially loved the boat cruise along the Sognefjord and the train ride after. Each provided truly spectacular views - including a spotting of a Huldre!Written June 17, 2024
- ceslawton0 contributionsLook for alternatives to Rail Ninja. MTRX is very comparable. Unfortunately, as a visitor, you can be misled!Booked our trains several months in advance. Requested business/first class facing forward. They booked our trains and all looked well. Closer to the trip, one part of the rail was cancelled and I didn't understand we were being switched to a bus. I was of the believe we were on the train both legs. Arrived at the train station in Oslo at 9:45 for a 10 a.m. train. We attempted to board when the conductor told us this was a bus ticket at the bus terminal, which was impossible, now, to make their 10 a.m. departure. Realizing our situation, the conductor told us that this train, too, is going to Goteberg and would arrive for us to make the transfer to the second train on our agenda.. So, we had to pay cash to the conductor and boarded in economy. We felt grateful that this would not ruin our scheduling. The ride was beautiful. However, 60 miles north of Goteberg, we all were told we had to get off the train. Seems a power problem prevented the train to go any farther south. They had to call Goteberg for busses to get us there. We were able to crowd onto the first bus knowing we only and an hour layover before going on the Stockholm. Everyone was cordial and understanding. Problem for us is that we missed our connector. We had been booked on Vy trains by Ninja Rail which offered no help since we didn't take their bus that we paid for. When we got to Goteberg, I was able to find an MTRX exonomy that got us to Stockholm in time for a short overnight to make our return home trip. There are more options than Ninja Rail wants you to know! They don't mention MTRX which was comparable to Vy. Somewhere we were told that if the train was over a half hour late, you would get half your ticket rebated. I don't know where to go for this as our Vy train ended 60 miles short of our destination. Put our problems aside. the scenery is breathtaking and, still the best way to see that part of Norway.Written June 10, 2024
