I really enjoyed my visit to this museum since I was already familiar with the story of the Kon-Tiki. It was eye-opening to actually see the exact construction of the raft that the brave men sailed on for 101 days across the Pacific Ocean. In addition, this museum also tells the story of the Ra and Ra II that attempted to sail across the Atlantic. It was amazing that anyone would attempt such a journey in a boat constructed of reeds. If you read a majority of the displays and informational boards (that are in at least 6 languages), it is easy to spend an hour or more here.

What a great story this museum tells! Although Fram museum (also 5 stars museum) is larger and visually impressive, this one provides a tight and inspiring experience. Just make sure you’re not missing the 12 o’clock movie

This museum is dedicated to the brave Norwegian Thor Heyerdahl, who in the 1940s proved that South Americans sailed to Polynesia in the early ages.
It’s a beautiful place to visit, full of pictures, the kon tiki and a short documentary on the voyage.
I used my Oslo pass here (worth it)
I recommend.

Great museum. The Kon-Tiki journey was something we understood a bit about before attending, but the museum takes you along on the ride with additional details about the crew, etc. Recommend!

I think of balsa wood as something I constructed rubber-band operated propeller gliders as a child. So when I read this was a museum about a crew that sailed a balsa raft halfway across the Pacific, I expected a minor curiosity. But instead this proved an unexpected highlight to Oslo! (And it was far less crowded than the Fram Museum across the street!) We highly recommend it!
