    Not running but took money
We turned up and the bus was not running. We spent £160 to travel and no communication to say it was not going ahead or about a refund. Bad customer service

    Save your money and walk!
Took this bus tour as part of an on-shore experience with P&O cruises. When disembarking there are people with red jackets trying to sell tickets. We paid £122 for 3 adults and a 15 year old. The bus took us around the area in about an hour, and pointed out the "interesting" parts. It was NOT worth the money and I wouldn't bother the next time. We stood in a very long queue, in the rain, to see not very much. Save your money and walk!

One of the less interesting city HOHO routes
Considering the high cost of this hop on hop off bus, it is definitely not good value. Although it calls at some interesting museums, there is little of interest to see on the route itself. If you are going to one of the museums probably easier (and possibly cheaper) just to get a taxi.

Couldn’t See Out of Plastic Window
Got on first bus and there was scuffed thick plastic upstairs instead of windows. Couldn’t see out of it very well, certainly no point taking photos through it. Not quite the idea of ‘sightseeing’. Queried this and was informed 3 buses were running that day, of which only one had glass windows upstairs. The second had plastic but at least it wasn’t scuffed. Luckily the third bus we got on had glass windows. Commentary itself was interesting. Convenient pick up and drop off at cruise port.

Worst trip ever. Bad sound on guiding. Dirty bus. Driver who drove recklessly. Don't waste your money on them.

Surly staff not interested in casual custom
Tried to book for the tour in time for the last departure but the surly girl at the desk just glared and said "closed". I pointed out it was still well before the time but she just grunted and turned her back. Other staff nearby were off-hand at best. It appears they are only interested in custom from the cruise ships, which arrive most days, and don't want to be bothered with casual custom. They were an appalling advertisement for the organisation; if I'd been a mystery traveller I'd have sacked the lot of them, starting with the surly girl. A proper sales team, even if for some reason I couldn't have travelled on the day, would have said something on the lines of "very sorry, we're can't take you today (for whatever reason), would you like to book for tomorrow?". The bus departed empty.

    Vacation in Norway
You really dont need the bus in Bergen. Everything is close and in walking distance. I would pass on it and use it maybe in Oslo where the town is bigger.

    Poorly marked hop-on stops
While the Bergen Hop-on/Hop-off bus has a nice route that takes you to all parts of Bergen, the buses only come by stops every half hour. The stops are very poorly marked and sometimes are not marked at all - leaving you to scramble for the bus as it drives past. The 24-hour fare in Bergen is significantly more expensive than other cities.

    Pros just about outweigh cons
This is a review of the Red Bus tour Bergen city. These tour buses are found in many cities around Europe and appear priced commensurate with the local economy - a sort of red bus equivalent to the insightful Big Mac Index (if you’ve not heard of this index do look it up). This tour was £33 a person, has 13 stops, is mildly interesting and takes about 40 slow minutes as the centre is narrow and windy. The WiFi didn’t work, the seats are uncomfortable and sometimes the growl of the engine made the recorded guide, piped through earphones, hard to hear. The only contact with staff are ticket sellers who only want money and the bus driver was Polish. Added to this as the bus drove the recorded guide voice stopped mid sentence and jumped to narrate the next site as some are so close together. The WiFi didn’t work either. We did an exceptional red bus tour in York England 6 weeks ago which was £12 each had a wonderful human guide and all worked. We sat through all 13 Bergen stops and then stayed on to return to the one we decided to see first. In our case it was the last one, stop 13. Once we were done exploring we hopped on to return to stop 8 - near the port to return to Norwegian Prima whose captain on this trip is also a very proud Norwegian. The hop on/off made it worth it particularly the return to our ship. Bergen, birthplace of Edvard Grieg and Ludvig Holberg is Norway’s second largest city yet the centre is quaint, small and very hilly in places. We stopped by St. Mary's Church as it is the only remaining of the twelve churches and three monasteries that were built in Bergen; it’s the oldest building in Bergen and about a 1,000 years old. It also has the Fløibanen funicular which takes about 8 minutes to go to the top of Mount Fløyen to see across the city and beyond. £11 return for 1,000 feet each way. Bergen is Norway’s largest fish producer and centre for aquaculture a trade that sustains Norway (with oil and gas for now) and it worth billions annually. The fish market is worth a visit but dining there will not be cheap - if you stay with cod it’s about £25 for lunch but this can about double for Alaskan snow crab and lobster. English is widely spoken. The locals are polite and the city is beautifully manicured. Expect to pay about £4 for coffee, £4 for a pastry with higher cafe prices to sit in rather than take away.

    Good info, too pricy
I will always go on a hop-on hop-off because I think they are a good intro to the city. However, the hours (10AM-4PM) were extremely limiting, and a 24-hour ticket is not worth the price. I realize that a lot of museums close at 4, but that is irrelevant at many of the stops. The (English) audio guide was not well synchronized, and the second speaker spoke over the first one. This is largely due to a few stops being too close to each other (2 & 3 especially). Claiming there are 13 stops is misleading as some are so close and others are basically a repeat of the same location.

    A Nice Drive
Took the 1 hour bus tour which cost 450 NOK. A double decker bus takes passengers through the streets of Bergen which can be narrow in parts. Bergen is a seriously nice place. The drive is slow and windy but covers a large section but not the mountain. As it was a wet day there wasn't a lot of photography being done. Is worth doing to determine the best places to visit. There is free wifi and headphones on the bus.

    Not worth it
We caught the bus to the Aksla viewpoint, took all of our photos and another bus hadn’t arrived so walked down the mountain, waited at the next bus stop, still no bus so shopped a bit and walked back to the cruise terminal. After lunch we walked back into town, then out to the church, didn’t ever see a bus driving around in the distance! So we paid 810 krone for a 15 min drive up the mountain, I wouldn’t recommend this, the buses seem to disappear after the initial tour

MSC VIRTUOSA - Iceland & Norway June 2023
Easy to purchase tickets online or at kiosk. Friendly helpful staff. Value for money was good, you could pick up headphones on the bus and listen to the tour in numerous languages. Views are absolutely breathtaking, and you can see for miles. Stunning panoramic views and opportunity to get off and take pictures. Only downside is if you are scared of heights, and narrow hair pin roads, and the occasional shear drop. I for one had my eyes shut most of the time as petrified of that sort of thing, but hubby absolutely loved it and would happily do it again.

    Waste of money
Waste of money. As others have said Alesund is not that big, so all sights on these buses are within walking distance. Once you hop off may be difficult to.hop back on as buses are infrequent. Also be aware of their refund promise. We were promised a refund for 2 unused tickets (we had pre-booked) still waiting for the refund. Don't use them!

We took this tour as we only had one day . We didn’t know that there are two companies who run. Finally after walking the entire city we found a bus and they said there company is different and the other company we baought the ticket was not running that day. Bergen is a small place not worth buying this tour and the buses were running every 30 minutes

Stay off this bus!! They told us that the next bus would leave at 11 and we had to wait till after 1130 to leave. Intervals were supposed to be 15-20 minutes but we had to wait for over 30 minutes on each if the 3stops we used. Finally they skipped the last 3 stops of what is supposed to be their tour Irene ray. A pure racket. And when I tried to politely point this out to the salesgirl she said I was threatening her in an effort to dissuade me.

I take the HOHO bus in almost every city I visit since it gives you a great overview of the main attractions and I just love sitting in a moving vehicle to get my bearings in a new place. I usually don't use the HOHO function much and usually ride the bus for an entire turn and then get off and sometimes use it as a bus after that.

All that being said this is one of my least favourite that I've been on. There was a long time between each bus and the bus had a very short running time despite it being the hight of summer. But my least favourite was how little information was in the audio guide. There was at least 2 or 3 storied from Norse mythology and as a person from a Nordic country it was something that was just boring for me as I've heard them a thousand times before. Pretty disappointing.

There is another company with HOHO tours, I'm not sure if that one is better, but I'd give it a chance than this one.

Rip off. Wish I had read the previous reviews, would have saved us fifty quid.
In theory, site seeing tours should include a commentary of the historical & cultural sites around the city. Not on this one, you spend thirty minutes following the instructions on the bus trying to log onto the WiFi only to find out the driver hasn’t turned it on. You then try to login so you can connect your phone & Bluetooth ear phones so you can hear the commentary only to find out that function doesn’t exist. What we needed to do was plug in our headphones to the Jack on the seats. But who has headphones with a Jack any more?
When I pointed this out to the Customer Service rep he said didn’t we get given a pair of headphones on boarding the bus? Funny that the driver didn’t mention this has anyone bothered to include this on the website, the free map or even a small sign on the bud itself. Was that too much to ask?
Well after obtaining our headphones on the third bus we then played a wonderful game of hunt the correct channel? Excellent fun trying to find the right language ad the numbers don’t align.
Finally, got the English Channel and what complete and utter drivel it was. Norway you should be a shamed if this is the best you can do.

This bus is convenient for cruise ship passengers as there is a stop literally 50 meters from dock but it was not with $40+ per person if you have a short cruise stop like we did in Oslo. It is crowded and hard to get off the bus when you want to. If we could get a do-over, we would pick the 3 or 4 stops we most wanted to see: Vineland sculpture park, Fram ship museum and the folksmuseum and Galma old town and just pay for Ubers. The cost would have been the same and we wouldn't have to wait for buses and deal with overcrowding and confusion over the 2 hop on hop off companies with different tickets. On the bus, audio portion is just OK and some audio jack's were defective. We just happened to be in Oslo on national holiday so many museums and shops were closed so that made the hop on off bus even less efficient for passengers.

I was hesitant to buy the ticket based on the existing reviews; but after watching a few buses in the area walked to the stop by the National Theatre station. The girl in charge was very friendly and explained that the buses were on a 30 minutes schedule. Bought ticket for the next bus and hopped on. Since we had a short time window, we only stepped off on the Vigeland Sculpture park. Ater walking through the park, we waited less than 20 minutes for the next bus. The audio worked well and got to hear some interesting facts about Oslo

Negatives:

Very few buses on the route. Based on the online tracker, there were 4 running that day. Therefore, long wait time -up to 30 min

Long stops.

Poor recorded narration. Most of the time we heard silence with occasional comments lacking any important information. I feel like I hardly learned anything about the city/nation.

Positives - Ability to move around city quicker than on foot.

Other comments - PLEASE make sure you know what company you are buying tickets for. The other (very similar looking bus) appeared to have more busses running. But I believe it’s slightly pricier.

Tour seemed like a great value to us but soon realized it was actually the opposite. Extremely poor audio quality and content of information when it was playing. No live tour guide but there was a very rude driver screaming at people to get off the bus. Since nobody really checks your ticket, go ahead and get on the darn bus without paying since nobody seems to care about the tour or checking who paid and who didn't.

Don’t even bother. Their tours end at 4:00pm - who works such short hours in a tourist industry during summer? Then, they do not have even ONE Slavic language available at all. The languages in their audio are not only mixed up but the only Slavic language my mom could understand - Russian - was not even there although it was clearly labeled in the language selections. Instead, they replaced it with some other language. Plus, some audio wasn’t even working properly. As such, my mom had zero information about what we were looking at. Who does this? What am I paying for if my mom is unable to use the Russian selection? They should really reimburse us. Also, we didn’t really see anything particular. Either they have nothing much to really show and talk about, or they simply do a poor job. Do not waste your money. Rather take a normal bus or lightrail and just ride it to see the city.

We were not told online that bus transport was hindered by the PRIDE parade in front of our hotel.

We had a difficult time finding the bus and the MAP on the site.

We spent a lot of money and had to walk over a mile to get back to our hotel to to closed streets around the hotel and the throngs of people. We would have just walked to the Munch Museum and Opera House and saved all our time waiting for the bud and the money.
