My wife and I were really looking forward to this trip while we were visiting Tromso and we were not disappointed. The booking process was easy to follow, when we arrived for the trip the crew confirmed that everything had been done before we went onboard. The boat was clean and tidy with plenty of space to view the wildlife and beautiful scenery without having to fight for room. The crew were welcoming, friendly and extremely knowledgeable, able to answer any questions we asked while pointing out where to look to see the whales and other animals we came across. The Captain positioned the boat so that the Whales were not scared and at no point did he try to chase them, which was great, the boat had an electric mode which was used close to the Whales so as not to disturb them. All in all I would highly recommend Brim Explorer if you want a great day out Whale Watching in the Norwegian Fjords.

We had an excellent day on board the Brim Explorer. Leaving Tromso, we sailed for approx 3.5 hours to the whale watching destination, taking in the most beautiful mountain scenery boardering the fjords. Throughout the trip, the boat crew (Fred, Iona & 2 more, but we can't remember their names- sorry) were engaging and provided excellent information about the inhabited areas along the way, the geographical features, pointing out wildlife (birds and reindeer) and explaining how to spot the different species of whales. Thanks to the whale spotting skills of the crew, our trip did not disappoint. We saw orcas and humpback whales in all their glory, all in the most beautiful, natural surroundings.
The ship and crew operate under a self imposed code of conduct to protect the wildlife, and the crew are clearly knowledgeable and passionate about their work.
The sail back gives time to reflect on the experience of the day and you can buy something to eat and drink (available from the onboard bar). We would recommend prebooking the soup, if you have the option, but it isn't absolutely necessary.
If you prepare for the cold and the long sail back to Tromso, then you will have a fantastic day out. Fingers crossed you get to see the whales like we did.
My review doesn't include photos of the whales, I only had my mobile which just doesn't do any justice to the scenery or the whales. The memories I have of seeing the whales close up will live with me forever.

This excursion was a magnificent way to observe orcas and see the fjords. The entire operation is well organized. Our original outing was rescheduled because of mechanical issues with one of the boats, but we were given plenty of advanced notice and offered a complimentary lunch. I booked our tickets online and received all of the relevant information, check-in process, and boarding ticket via email.

The boat is a modern hybrid electric catamaran with excellent viewing areas from both inside and outside. While the excursion was full, everyone had enough space inside (tables, chairs), and there is plenty of deck space for animal viewing. The boat has a bar that serves coffee, tea, pastries, wine, beer, and other snacks. A vegan stew with bread is offered for lunch (best to purchase in advance when you book to ensure an adequate supply). Several WCs are located on board.

Our trip encountered 4 pods of orcas, which we followed for nearly 2 hours. By using the electric motor, the boat runs much quieter near the whales and orcas, and the orcas came quite close to the boat. Binoculars were made available for everyone. Each trip is different, as the whales and orcas move daily in the water, and the weather varies.

On board we had two naturalists, one of whom was marine biologist specializing in whales and orcas. Part of the presentation included learning how to recognize the different types of whales and orcas in the region, learning about their feeding habits and social structures, and learning how to spot them from them boat. All presentations were in English. The crew ensured everyone's comfort and safety.

The trip is long because it takes several hours to reach the waters where the whales and orcas are, so this trip is best suited for adults and older children. The return time varies on where whales and orcas are sighted, so best to plan for the entire day.

This was a lovely tour (stunning in fact) of the Fjords however I have reviewed this purely for what it is sold as, I.e. whale watching. We arrived at Skjervoy (where the whales feed/are sighted) at 11:44am and departed at 12:24pm. Considering the cost of this trip I expected more than 40 minutes looking for whales. We did see an orca from very far away and also a fin whale from even further away (the crew said it was a humpback or fin) but ultimately we came away disappointed with what we saw. You can’t argue with it being a 3.5 hour trip each way and this is clearly stated however I was surprised to have had so little time to look for whales given everyone on board had spent a lot and was happy to participate in a 7 hour round sail to get there. Several members of the crew had very large lenses and captured amazing pics, much better than most and I feel it should be part of the service that these are shared with the paying customer. All other whale watching tours I have done this has been the case. Again, this trip should probably be sold as a “fjord tour” and if you see whales then it’s a bonus. All the crew very friendly the only complaint was how rushed it was at the spot where the whales usually feed. This is nature you have to be patient but this element was completely rushed. As soon as the captain had seen an orca it was box ticked and time to turn around.

Great and modern boat. Very spacious, you can either be outside or warm and cozy inside. We were lucky and spotted some killer whales very soon, so the tour lasted a bit less than expected. The cafeteria has a lots of pastries taken from the local shops, delicious. The lunch is vegan. The guides are knowledgeable and gave us a considerable amount of important information, both about marine mammals and sustainability. It is very important, especially when going whale watching, to book your adventure with silent boats. Marine animals are very sensible to noise pollution, therefore I would recommend joining Brim's tours on their silent boats. Orcas were so comfortable around us that they got very close. 10/10 would recommend!

Great views of Orcas close to the vessel. We watched a pod of 9 Orcas for about an hour doing their thing.

The guide was great and very knowledgeable, giving lots of information during traveling, but keeping quiet once we'd encountered the Orcas, so we could enjoy the experience in peace. She occasionally gave directions to help people spot them, but that was all. Perfect.
We travelled a couple of hours northwest from Tromso, birding from the various decks. We spent most of the time outdoors looking for birds and other wildlife; many people stayed inside, watching their smartphones...
When we encountered the Orcas, only about 20 people braved the weather and went out on deck. Most stayed indoors but presumably they got reasonable views from inside.
The views outside were immense! The boat was silent and we just waited and the Orcas came very close on a couple of occasions.
The boat was very smart and modern, with a bar and very clean toilets. We pre ordered the hot stew, which was a spicy tomato and veg soup which was lovely. On the way back I had a beer to celebrate our Orca sightings.
The only downside was the boat was very full and we had to sit on the floor. The crew had let some folks on who should have been on a different boat. Not sure how that happened! This in no way affected our enjoyment of the trip and I suspect if the weather had been better, more people would have been outside and it would've felt less crowded. We spent most time outside so it was ok.
I was especially impressed by the guide's comments about sustainability and some of the problems affecting whales which I suspect many of the clients had not considered.
I would thoroughly recommend this trip and thanks to the crew and especially the Italian female guide.

I had a wonderful time today on the Brim Explorer. Our host, Karolina, was extremely adept, managing the comfort and safety of an entire vessel full of passengers as well as educating us about whales and the climate of northern Norway. The educational aspect of the tour stood out to me in particular - the crew made sure to stress that we were guests in the habitat of the whales, and that we wouldn't approach beyond a safe and respectful distance. Luckily, the whales seemed to be curious about our vessel, and as we sat silently in the water, they approached us and swam directly under the boat!

I also very much appreciated the additional perspective of Indigenous people in the educational portions of the tour. There was such a focus on treating the wildlife with reverence and respect that I couldn't help but feel like the whales rewarded us by coming so close. The presence of other, clearly less respectful tours (that ultimately drove the whales out of the area) made me very happy to be amongst such a thoughtful crew and tour.

The boat was excellent, with comfortable seating, great restrooms, and delicious coffee and soup. The ride was very comfortable, and even when the seas got choppy, I never felt unsafe or unsteady. This is the kind of tour I would be happy to revisit with additional friends in the future.

Time spent travelling. It states 6-8hours on the website, however it doesn't state that this 6-8hours consists of a known 3.5hour trip out to where the whales are feeding that year (which changes every four years based on the herring), actual whale watching for 40mins and a 3.5hour return journey. This should be advertised better.

Finding somewhere to sit was a little chaotic. The boat was packed and people had to confront others to remove bags from seats etc to make room. Assigned seating would solve this problem and improve contract tracing for Covid close contacts.

The Covid safety measures were shockingly bad. Staff wore face masks, however, passengers we're not required to wear face masks. With 120-130 people aboard the boat I was on that day, I'd say about 20% were wearing masks indoors. I saw one bottle of hand sanitizer on the whole boat. The safety talk did not include Covid safety measures (detailing people should wear masks and use the one bottle of hand sanitizer provided). Covid safety measures should be improved with assigned seating (table numbers) for improved contact tracing, the provision of hand sanitizer at each table, regular sanitisation of hand rails and the compulsory wearing of masks indoors at least when the boat is at full passenger capacity and you cannot physically distance. I did not feel safe there. I tried to stay outdoors for most of the trip but it was too cold to do so on the return journey.

We saw humpback and orca whales which was fantastic. The crew didn't disturb the whales by getting too close which I liked. The views during daylight heading out we're breathtaking.

The boat was comfortable and warm indoors.

The presentation and information surrounding the whales was great and broke up the return journey. The guys do seem passionate and knowledgeable and we're very polite and friendly. They were very open to questions from passengers.

I really hope the company takes Covid safety measures more seriously, or at least advertises what to expect. The website states it complies with requirements at the time. However, requirements and circumstances change very quickly. The basics of mask wearing and sanitisation should be followed regardless of local requirements considering the indescriminate and potentially deadly nature of this virus.

Beautiful, comfortable, obviously well maintained boat. Welcomed on board by two very knowledgeable guides Fred and Karl. They explained what to expect, and gave us very informative talks on all things whale!! Their knowledge, and their ability to share it with us on a level that an ordinary person was capable of understanding was outstanding. Their love and fascination with the whales shone through and brought the trip alive. The crews experience and skill enabled us to see not just one whale, but three types, Killer whales, a humpback and also we were privileged enough to see a Fin whale.
Not just my favourite trip of the cruise, but my favourite trip ever!! Thank you Fred, Karl and the rest of the crew, for a totally memorable experience.

What an AMAZING day.....It's a long sail out to find the Whales, but the Crew were amazing and kept us entertained with little educational talks to show how passionate they are about Marine Biology (Thank you Josephine and Alina).

And when we got to the Whale feeding areas WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED. We had great views of Orcas and good humpback sightings too.

There are no pictures to share as I was just mesmerised and wanted to enjoy the show

Worth the money in my eyes
