- D5248LMjessicam0 contributionsAmazing private arctic fjord tour!Me, my husband, and our 2 kids (ages 13 and 9 years) did the private arctic fjord tour with Arbo and we had an amazing time. It snowed most of the day and Arbo took us to some beautiful sites, brought a yummy lunch including hot chocolate, and took many great photos of our family. He's an amazing photographer and one of the best parts of the trip were the great photos he took of our family. Usually I'm the one behind the camera, so I don't get to be in many photos, so this was really nice for me. I would 100% recommend this tour with Arbo and Greenlander!!Written May 5, 2024
- sallymX920ZO0 contributionsGreenlander - the best photos you could hope for!We had a really great northern lights trip with Greenlander. Our guide Arbo really went the extra mile to take us to a special, private spot with reflections of the water. He made hotdogs and hot chocolate for us and took some incredible professional photographs. The northern lights themselves were a little bit visible to the naked eye and pretty incredible in the photos. I would definitely recommend the tour company.Written March 31, 2024
- jbZ3742IP0 contributionsAmazing experience!Positive experience with Greenlander! Kerttu and Markus were prompt in answering questions and booking the tour. Our guide Arbo was amazing. The day of our tour, it was snowing and completely overcast. Arbo never gave up. We were out for 8 hours hunting the lights. He was constantly checking his info and we found the lights three times, once with great intensity. Super nice guy and great photographer too! When leaving Tromso, we met a lady at the airport who took a different company’s group tour three nights in a row and never saw the lights. She should have booked one night with Greenlander. They are the best!Written March 24, 2024
- Inspire283564456190 contributionsRain / Snow in Tromso....but no worries as we have Markus from Greenlander!!We didnt have to search for long as Markus knows exactly where to bring us to (Finland) for fantastic view of the lights :)Written March 22, 2024
- Carlos C0 contributionsAmazing personalized experience!Nature was kind to give us a few hours of clear skies and we were lucky to see and photograph beautiful auroras. But Markus’ efforts to find the possible spot while taking care of everything our family could need, from lending me a tripod, providing tips to improve our photos, having food and thermal suits for everyone, made for a memorable amazing experience !! Totally recommended if you want to treat your dear ones with a unique adventure!Written March 22, 2024
- betha7200 contributionsTHE BEST NORTHERN LIGHTS TOUR. THE BEST. NONE BETTER.Absolutely the best northern lights tour to go on. Markus is beyond brilliant. We found the lights on a night it seems every other company cancelled due to the inclement conditions. But not Markus. He was on time and ready. The lights were spectacular. Markus knows every camera setting, knows how to hunt the lights, made a great meal. It was by far the best time we had. If you want the best tour - bar NONE contact Markus at Greenlander. Thank you Markus for the best time.Written March 20, 2024
- B4523AYalanb0 contributionsWe found the light!!Markus was an excellent guide. He included everyone. He helped us optimize our camera settings. He provided a comfortable evening for our group of 8. He knows the land, weather and where to view...what a wonderful experience. I would recommend to anyone who wants to view and photograph the lights!!Written March 18, 2024

- Q7606EAwaltert0 contributionsThe Magnificence of Kvaloya with MarkusThe day started out with low clouds and a bit drizzly as we began our tour with Markus. Who would have thought what perfect weather that could be for enjoying the absolute beauty of the mountains and fjords! We had a great day with Markus as our guide and photographer. We had expected a few photos to be snapped along the way, but what a talented photographer Markus is! And he knew ALL the most beautiful places to visit. The tour was a photo shoot, good conversation, enjoyable walks and a magnificent peek into the beauty of the island of Kvaloya. Thank you, Markus!Written March 13, 2024
- hugov6910 contributionsBest northern light spot and really nice guy! What an amazing trip! From the start till the finish! At first, we had contact with Kerttu, really appreciated the speed in our contact, the good suggestions (for example: which day to go?) and what suits best for us (we like really small groups, attention for nature, enjoying the silent). We chose the private tour, we went on another tour (by boat) and it was to way to massive for us. And boy, what a good choice we made! We had Markus as guide. A nice, enthusiastic, passionated and ‘dedicated for the job’ person. He has so much knowledge, not only about the northern light but about the wildlife, living in Norway, traveling, food and off course campervans :). During our northern light trip Markus searched for the best spot, the first one was to windy, the next too far to walk in the snow and so we ended up at a special, almost hidden private beach. Away from the busses and large groups of people. And after not even that much time we saw the magnificent northern light. This was only because Markus looked at all the apps where we had to go and what time we should be there. We had a really, really great day! We made a fire, roasted marshmallows, Markus and our 9 year old found beautiful stones and shells and off course we ended up with beautiful northern light pictures 🤗 One of the things I appreciated most is that Markus is a really good driver. We were driving around in the middle of te night on icy roads and we felt really safe. Let me finish by saying that in the unique experience of seeing the northern lights, Markus made it even more special by just being him! Thanks a lot for this 🙏🏻.Written February 23, 2024
- Odyssey036832873140 contributionsPerfect nature-sightseeing tourIt was a perfect trip to nice places around Tromsø. We've enjoyed the beautiful nature, the wild reindeers and the "snowfall-Picknick" on the beach with the best hot chocolat I've ever had! Thanks to Markus, our guide, for the wonderful day!Written February 23, 2024
- Trek071273916880 contributionsWhat a wonderful experienceMyself and two grown up sons recently had both a private fyord tour and a Northern Lights tour with Greenlander. Markus was our guide and what a jewel he is. He is so passionate about so many subjects relating to the tours. His knowledge was amazing, his patience was boundless and what a photographer! Greenlander are apparently a small independent company and it is obvious that they feel the need to provide a level of service of the highest order and they succeed. I would recommend them wholeheartedly-you won’t be disappointed.Written February 15, 2024
- Chmr50 contributionsWonderful northern lights experienceThank you Marcus and team for an amazing experience. Marcus was very accommodating and picked us up from the airport. Despite setting off later than we would've liked, he was very keen to get us the best chance possible to seeing the lights! Marcus was very knowledgeable about the lights and knew how to read the satellite data - again increasing our chances. We had lovely homemade soup, cookies and hot chocolate and snow suits were provided so we didn't feel the cold. Photography was also included in the price, meaning we could enjoy the moment and not worry about trying to catch everything on camera. Marcus was very attentive to our needs the whole time he was with us and gave us a wonderful experience as a family that we will never forget.Written February 11, 2024
- 349annemiekev0 contributionsA perfect nightJust an amazing night it was! Perfect. We drove for about one hour and after Jurre Jan had parked the car, we looked around: a beautiful spot, so quiet. The light came rather quickly and kept going. The fire was nice and warm, the soup and hot chocolate also where! Thanks for this wonderful night.Written February 9, 2024
- gayathrij1110 contributionsBest Northern Lights Tour in TromsoWhat a great decision we made going with Greenlander. The week we went, Tromso was affected by uncharacteristic severe arctic storms. Despite this Marcus from Greenlander, went above and beyond to ensure we saw the lights. He provided excellent communication and rescheduled our dates free of charge in order to give us the best chance of seeing the lights, despite the weather. His communication was so friendly helpful and informative, and he genuinely wanted to help us have a wonderful time. On the night we were given the best northern lights tour guide in Tromso, Arbo! Not only was Arbo knowledgable about basically anything and everything to do with the Aurora, Astrology and Science, he was also a fantastic driver and a phenomenal photographer. His extensive knowledge and skills came in so handy on the night, and he was able to track down the only gap in cloud cover for hundreds of kilometres around. He also timed the journey to perfection and we shown the most spectacular display of the Aurora. Something I did not expect to happen, considering how terrible the weather was the entire week we spent in Tromso. We booked a private tour with our 1 year old baby, and Greenlander provided a carseat, protective clothing, a wonderful campfire, as well as delicious food and drinks for the whole journey. The experience was unsurpassed and our baby had a wonderful time on the night as well. There are a lot of tour groups offering Aurora chases in Tromso, but if you are looking for a highly professional, personalised and friendly company, I would not look further than Greenlander !Written February 1, 2024

Our guide Arbo really worked hard and drove us all the way to Finland to get us the clearest skies and have the highest chances to see the lights, since Tromso and the coastal area had heavy clouds and snow at the time. We only had one night to experience the lights and we were very lucky to have Arbo who is a very well experienced photographer taking beautiful pictures of us and the lights. We got the pictures merely 3-4 hours after the tour finished. Highly recommend anyone to experience the Northern Lights with the Greenlander as their knowledge of the weather and the area gives you higher chances. Other tours got only half an hour chasing it in the coast, thanks to Greenlander we had an experience of a lifetime!

Greenlander are simply outstanding & Markus & Arbor Rae who was our guide, just exceptional. Our excursion was in jeopardy when all Northbound flights from Oslo were cancelled due to a technical hitch.
Despite the prevailing chaos at Oslo airport, we managed to secure a later flight, kept in contact with Markus from Greenlander because since our excursion was at 5.30pm it meant we would be late as our flight was only after 5pm! The dream of 4 friends we felt was about to be shattered! How wrong we were! Notwithstanding that we arrived at the hotel close to 9pm Markus arranged for us to be collected (understandably at an additional cost) & to be taken to the location where Arbor & the rest of the group were waiting for us. There are 8 people in a group.
This type of service & customer care can only be considered as over & above! Well, way beyond what one would expect!
The stress of reaching the gathering point was however SO worth our while as the Northern lights put on a show so spectacular that we were spellbound! For hours! It is indescribable! They were not seen for the next 2 nights!
Arbor was the most knowledgeable & gracious host & the photo I attach is thanks to his expertise. We were served with delicious hot pumpkin soup, the best local bread, hot chocolate & we even toasted marshmallows!
An overall exhilarating experience & we clearly highly recommend Greenlander!

I love northern lights and have been on numerous trips to Northern Norway, chasing and photographing the aurora. The landscape is awesome and a good light show is just fantastic and I can't get enough of it! This was the first time I went on a northern lights tour and I picked this company partly of all the raving reviews, but mostly because I was curious to meet Markus who is a fantastic northern lights photographer.
It was a great experience, small group, just relax and let the pro do the chase and serve hot drink and yummy soup. Just what you need to boost the morale while waiting patiently in the cold for the lights to appear. Weather wise, the evening starting a bit grim, yes we got covered in both snow and hail but then clearings in the cloud cover and a bit of aurora appeared. After sitting around the fire, a few selfie sessions, hot drink and soup we started heading back towards town. On the way the lights flared up and we stopped and got even better photos.
Markus is the perfect guide; friendly and approachable, keen to please and with a huge passion for nature, photography and aurora. Everything was smooth operation from booking, confirmation, email conversations, pick-up, actual tour to drop-off and great souvenir aurora pictures from the night (photographed by Markus) sent by email promptly the day after.
I would highly recommend northern light newbies to sign up for this tour as it's well organised, you'll be as comfortable as you can be in the cold night, and most importantly - it maximizes your chances of seeing the elusive northern lights. The only con I can think of is that it was a bit cramped traveling 7 people in the Land Rover, though everything else regarding the tour most highly outweighs that bit!!

Markus is a great guide and we had the pleasure of going on a trip with him on friday february 4th. We only had two nights in Tromsø, to experience the Northern Lights, so we were a bit anxious if we would succeed. Therefore we were in contact with Markus a couple of days before, and he even called us on the tour day, to let us know the changes probably were slim and he had an cancellation on Saturday, if we wanted to switch days. In the end we decided to go on friday, and were we glad we did!
We were picked up on time, and set off. The forecast told us to expect an opening in the clouds around 8 pm, but almost immediately Markus noticed an opening might be happening and managed to get us to that location, before all the other tours and we saw the first glimpes of the Northern Light - about just one hour after the tour started!
Another bus arrived at our spot, and we moved on the a secluded area, we had completely to ourselves, where the Northern Lights almost immediately showed itself once more.
Markus is really knowledgable about the topic and area, and great at explaining the phenonomem. Though it was cold, we had a great night, and the soup provided along with the fire were one of the highlights of the night.
We would definately recommend Greenlander and Markus to anybody else wishing to experience the Northern Lights out of Tromsø.

This was probably one of the most stress free tours ever experienced.
As my father and uncle have retired recently and want to now begin to travel internationally and see as much of the world as they can I have to book the travel and coordinate things for them as they cant afford package tours.
I reached out to Greenlander reading many of the great reviews and had Markus reply back who helped me coordinate things in the days leading up to their trip to Tromso. He made what was an arduous process seamless and easy. He went above and beyond to answer every question I had even outside of the realms of this tour and just basic Tromso advice which he didn't have to. He gave his number and made himself reachable for my father and family to call him if they had any trouble finding the meeting point which I cant thank him enough for given the trouble they have navigating new towns.
During the email thread and the back and forth questions he remained online and approachable at various hours including one time when he was going to pick his child up but still stopped to respond to my questions.
All of this exchange was in the lead up to booking when no money had been exchanged but when it came to finally booking he again went out of his way by when the system wasn't taking my card he held off seats for them while I figured this out and cracked the issue. One I had booked and they were there on the tour he consistently checked up on them to make sure they were ok. He would stop to ask them and other people on the tour if they were ok. This was peak Jan period when the weather was extremely cold!
He spoke to them and the participants throughout and would explain things as he drove. The tour was so enjoyable that the following day we booked the Fjord tour with Greenlander again which was equally enthralling. This is a must do for anybody and the personal intimate drive you get with this tour is second to none. The individuals that my family interacted with were all kind, polite and helpful. I would recommend them thoroughly based on my parents experience!

Amazing experience. Great price and a small group only 8 people. Arbo our guide was very knowledgable. We got set up in a secluded spot with a fire, snow suits and a nice dinner. We got really lucky with the lights Mother Nature put on a beautiful display. Highly recommend this company for a cheaper price you get a smaller tour and all the perks you’d be silly not to book with them!

Did you see the Auroa? Yes, 3 different activities
Bottom Line: Unexpected activity above us
Details of the Tour: We started the tour at 5:30, between 4 companies we reserved (4 nights in Tromso) this was the best, if you like 15 people and walk like a family, well you culd pick another tour, this was just 6 people. Markus I believe is really famous and his wife´s soup also. The win of this tour than a minVAn of the other companies was to ride with a real vehicle a Land Rover Defender. A mini VAN couldn´t reach the places we were, with a lot of snow, ride like a lunar roving vehicle and more secure than 17 people in a bigger car. Now Markus took us to a first place, good and look the northern lights there, after that we were in a small hill thanks to this Defender, appropriate boots and suits, , a clear skys, and a second activity of Auroras just above us, was beautiful for my wife (as a dream), after that, the fire and the food in -3 celsius, was perfect! and again, a third activiy of Auroras, now moving, and some red colors also... even Markus was amazed, we had a "gringo" that said "hey you probably see this all days and you say the same thing to everybody", but based on 4 nights of hunting Auroras I could say, each night is totally different, and is not common to have the Auroras exactly above you and moving covering all sky. So thanks to this company for a good vehicle, good guide, good wife of the guide who prepared a good soup, thanks God for that night. Finally the next day we receive spectacular and good quality pictures (pre Edited). finally ...please be careful with one of the companies we took during our stay there auroratour.no is a fiasco and is not fair other visitors who pay a lot to be there could be affected by a bad service.

Booking a tour in a really wet week with a lot of cloud cover seemed doomed. Not to mention we were in covid times (although the numbers for Tromsø were low at the time). However, Markus got in touch ahead of time, and we managed to find a day that was not so unfavourable. We enjoyed the trip out to our viewing spot and settled down to see if the clouds would clear. The hot chocolate and camp fire helped warm and cheer us as we waited. It seemed that hot soup would make or break the trip, as the lights often appear just as you are settling down for the soupy goodness. And wow, they did just that! 11:30 at night they started to shimmer and we were treated to a great show which we captured in many photos. Thanks to the able Markus they turned out just fine, and of course we have some professional portraits to look back on too.

Great night out with our experienced guide Markus in his Landrover. He evaluated weather and satellite data well and took us in the right direction for finding a gap in the cloudy skies that were hanging above Tromso. It took 3 hours to find, but the experience of being on the snowy roads together was already good fun, with other groups on the road as well. Then suddenly, after crossing the boarder with Finland, he directed the big car into the wilderness, and soon there it was: an open sky with a big moon. We waited only a few minutes after getting into the thermal suits (-15°C it was) to see the magic happen, all green and purple dancing right above our heads. Markus gave us a tripod and set our camera to shoot the best pictures. Also the ones he shot and sent afterwards are amazing memories. We got also a big treat with a campfire among the still white and homemade soup was really super.
Nothing but a big high five for this great guide, who also brought back safely to the city lights of Tromso.
If you are looking for a personal tour, this is certainly a great choice!

Amazing experience, small group of people on the excursion. Tour guard Jurre Jan did an amazing job at keeping us all informed, comfortable, warm and fed (pumpkin soup was tasty). He led the way on a particular evening where the clouds made it difficult to see the lights, but drove us to the best location based on live weather and solar updates. We eventually saw the northern lights and an very please with the pictures I received within a few hours of the ending of the excursion. The whole experience was great, I highly recommend.
Thanks to Markus, Jurre and the team.

I am planning a trip for January; is this trip available then?

We stopped at a petrol station but that is not enough. It is a long night so be mindful of that. We were lucky as there was a toilet in one of the places we stopped.

Hi, I would like to ask if the weather at the end of September will require winter boots? What's the temperature?

Hi, I would like to ask if you are doing tours during Easter 2024? I do not want to come during that period and not be able to do this tour :)
Thank you!

Looking at their website it shows 'available' for tours on March 30 and 31. I went 2 nights around March 24, 2023 and it was beyond fantastic. (dark of the moon helped). To be sure, reach out to Kerttu at info@greenlander.no. She will be able to tell you for sure.

El guía lleva su propia cámara con trípode y hace los ajustes pertinentes para sacar las mejores fotos que luego te envían al email. Está incluido en el precio. También puedes llevarte tu propia cámara y que el guía te ayude a configurarla para sacra bien las auroras.
