What a fun day! We rode in a coach with about 40+ other people but when we arrived on the reindeer farm, we were split into two groups. The first group rode the sleds while we each got buckets to feed the reindeer. That was a delightful experience as the reindeer were very friendly and all of them had different personalities. Then, we switched it up and we got to ride the sleds. It was at a walking pace, but that made it very relaxing and we could take time to enjoy the scenery. We then all returned to the heated hut where the owner of this reindeer herd, Per, told us about the Sami culture and the reindeer. The lunch (which included reindeer stew) was excellent, and it was an incredibly educational and enjoyable day. I highly recommend going with this tour for a relaxing and fun day out.

Reindeer sledding is a must-do if you're visiting Tromso and this tour includes plenty of interaction with the animals along with a fantastic insight into Sami culture from the hosts.

Situated in a peaceful valley, you will enjoy some stunning scenery while taking a gentle sled ride before being given the chance to feed the reindeer. Our hosts were happy to take photographs for us and to answer any and all questions about reindeer herding and the Sami way of life.

Lunch is provided in a warm and welcoming environment, where we were served a traditional Sami lunch of bidos (reindeer stew) while our host Lena told us more about Sami customs and how they have changed over time. To close out the tour we were treated to some traditional joik singing. The tour was well planned and hosted brilliantly.

Unfortunately we were not able to go sledding due to a lack of snow. That did not spoil our visit with the reindeer and Sami Guides. After a short beautiful drive to the reserve we were met by Sami guides in their native attire. They were very welcoming and made us feel comfortable immediately. Walking among the reindeer herd was very exciting. The information about the Sami way of life and the reindeer herding was excellent. It was the highlight of our cruise to Norway. No one should miss it.

It was a great experience to see the Sami culture and learn about their traditional way of life. I enjoyed the simplicity as well as appreciated the hardship that they can encounter during the very cold winters. Reindeer sledding was nice to experience, but it was a shame that there were no lights along the sleighs to see better in the dark. I found the ride very cold (and I had two layers on), so I would recommend still using one of their thermal suits you can borrow FOC.

It was great to experience a traditional Lavu and try reindeer stew - very tasty. They ended evening with a a joike demonstration.

The family are wonderful hosts, the only downside was I found the dinner side of the trip was a bit short lived - not a lot of time to socialise with the locals towards the end.

Overall, it's still worth experiencing whilst in Tromso - especially if you are a culture buff!

Dear Charlene, Thank you for the great feedback, we really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us. The lack of lights on the sledges is to reduce light pollution to allow for a better view of the Northern Lights. We are really happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit to us. Best regards from a fellow culture buff, Bernhard

Great fun despite lack of snow. It felt unfair to knock a point off for not being able to sledge! It was mild for the time of year and the herders are much concerned with climate change here as it has a profound impact. Feeding them is huge fun if you are confident around animals as they do barge you and you have to dodge the antlers! Very interesting chat about the Sami culture and tasty reindeer stew. I would thoroughly recommend.

Hello and thank you very much for your honest review! The reindeer are indeed an exciting animal, even though we have quite tame ones they are still somewhat mischievous sometimes... :) It was really a shame that we couldn't to sledding due to the snow, but we hope you get the opportunity to go back to Tromsø some day and come try the oldest form of transportation here in the North! We and our reindeer will for sure be ready. :)

Small group of people divided into two parts: everyone has the chance to enjoy reindeer sledding and reindeer feeding. No crowd, our Sami guide, Annele (hope wrote her name correctly:)) is professional in providing all the information we need. She also made a super informative presentation about the Sami’s culture, life, history. The food, bidos was delicious. The singing way, the joik was fabulous, we even learned to sing together. I wish we had more time there to get to know their culture more deeply, to speak and to sing together.

The sled ride was exactly as you see on the website, not exciting, but a good experience anyway. Feeding the reindeer is great, just to be able to be so close to them was a thrill.
Lunch was awful, a watery brown broth with the odd bit of vegetable, really tasteless. There was fresh bread but that was it. I would rather not have bothered. The talk was also disappointing. The guide was lovely but it was mostly about traditional clothing and very little about life as a reindeer herder which was what I was hoping for. Also be prepared, they call this a Sami camp and the toilets are 'primitive'.
So, great to see reindeer but overall I was let down by this tour.

Dear Emerald, Thank you foryour balanced and honest feedback. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the sledding and had an overall positive experience. Our reindeers do their best, and so do we. We're sorry that you didn't like the soup. In case someone needs to season theirs, there is always some fresh pepper and salt available. Best, Bernhard

The experience has been really great.
We enjoy the reindeer sledding, the free interaction with the animals with competent people on our side that could explain us many things and answer to our questions.
It has been nice to enjoy the traditional food in a good place and with a Sami that told us stories about his culture.
The group was not so big (about 15 people) and we enjoy that.

The scenic transfer is really beautiful, as well as the views ‘on set’. The reindeer were lovely, and we were friendly welcomed. However, the ‘saami’ culture was pretty disappointing, as everything seemed a bit ‘fake’ and veeeery touristy, so not really authentic. I expected a sami village, but there were no lavvi tents and the sami lady told us more about the saami culture such as clothing etc, but no real exciting stories. It was very touristy and expensive for what you get. It’s okay for reindeer feeding and sledding, but don’t expect the real authentic sami experience.

Dear Lisabel, We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us. We are sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations. Sami people are not an uncontacted tribe. There is technology, and Sami people do not live in reservations. At our camp you can see how people who work with reindeers live and work today, and during the cultural presentation you also get a glimpse into the past. Best, Bernhard

We did this tour on the 28th of January 2022. It was a great honor to get to know the rich Sami culture (e.g.Sami's spiritual connection with nature, and their sustainable lifestyle) and how they preserve their own culture. The Reindeers sledding experience was great and the reindeers there were friendly and lovely. They were well taken care of in this Sami camp. A thumb up to Tromso Lapland and the guides working in this reindeer camp.
