Your exact destination depends upon the evening's conditions and the expert assessment of your aurora-hunter guide, who takes you to areas where you are most likely to see the lights. As you journey into the Arctic countryside and away from the light pollution of the city, your guide explains the science and some of the mythologies surrounding the aurora borealis. Upon arrival at the selected location, your guide serves hot chocolate, coffee, and cake to keep you warm and alert as you await the appearance of the dancing lights. Your guide can also offer tips for handling the tricky conditions of northern lights photography—and can also supply tripods. Keep your camera at the ready and, with luck, the sky soon lights up with colors. Afterward, hopefully with a camera full of photographs and memories to last a lifetime, journey back to central Tromso for drop-off. - adeleb7200 contributionsFjord Bus Tour in Tromso with Anastasia - Great ExperienceMy husband and I and another couple went on the Fjord Bus Tour in Tromso, Norway in September 2024. Our tour guide was Anastasia and Are was our driver. Anastasia was an amazing guide! She had so much information on Norway, including the culture, lifestyle, and history. We all really enjoyed the local snacks offered, especially the lefse dessert and reindeer salami. The places we stopped at had amazing views of the fjords, and lunch at the hotel in the village was delicious (fish soup, bread, and coffee/tea). There was actually an issue with the lunch reservation, but Anastasia handled it well and we didn't have to wait long even with the hiccup. The photos she took of us turned out so well! My husband and I just used the free lower quality version, but there were high-quality ones available for purchase. The photos were available for download very fast after the tour which was nice.Written October 1, 2024
- ritwickm0 contributionsThis is the best tour in TromsoJuan and Andreas were absolutely amazing! Andreas is a really skilled driver and an even better photographer. Juan - the guide - was really entertaining. He shared the science behind the lights as well as small anecdotes. This made the whole journey really entertaining and enjoyable. They even stopped midway on the way back when they spotted some more activity in the sky and we managed to see the lights again from a different location. We took tours with three different agencies on three consecutive days and this was the best considering the whole package. I cannot recommend them enough. Keep up the great work, guys!Written September 25, 2024
- CourtneyR70 contributionsA magical experienceOn our honeymoon to Tromsø we went on two of the Best Arctic tours. Firstly, we went on the fjord tour hosted mainly by Ivan (apologies I don’t know the correct spelling). He was a fantastic guide and really knew his stuff. He built great rapport with the whole group from the get go and really made our trip. He is an asset to the company. Secondly, we went on the Northern Lights chase hosted by Anastasia. A once in a lifetime journey to see the aurora Borealis for the first time in such a special place. We have fallen in love with Tromsø and Anastasia made the tour so special for us. She too is a fantastic member of staff. We can’t sing her praises highly enough. Thank you Best Arctic for making our honeymoon and giving us special memories together. All the best, Chris and Courtney from ScotlandWritten September 17, 2024
- MarkCBurbank0 contributionsFun day outThe snowmobile staff was awesome. They really did a great job preparing us to have a fun safe ride. It was thrilling to ride a snowmobile for the first time. You get a hour long bus ride a ferry ride and a bowl of hot soup too. I definitely recommend this tour.Written April 19, 2024
- taniarA6414FI0 contributionsThe Magical Fjord Tour of 10.03.2024We booked our Fjord Tour from Best Arctic directly from their website a month before our visit to Tromso. Best Arctic as the name suggest was really best tour operator in Tromso. As per guideline people gathered 20 mins earlier in the lobby Raddison Blue. Best Arctic has a cute office there. We were given Pink bands to wear as many day trippers of various activites were also present. We waited when our tour guide Juan came up and took all the tourists for boarding the Red Bus. Next started our journey through Tromso. Juan is a nice chap and is very kind and knowledagble about the nature around him. Our driver was a local named Katharina who was really nice and warm person. Juan guided 14 of us always answering our queries, taking our pictures and also sharing little trivias of the fjords we visited in Kvaloya and Sommaroy. We were provided with proper bathroom break and were taken to a fisherman's cabin up in Sommaroy where we had our lunch. The landscape outside the cabin was just breathtaking. Thank you to Juan and Katharina for the hospitality and also to local person ( whose name I have forgotton sry) of Sommaroy whose cabin we used. People do come for NL in Tromso but people should also take this tour to see how beautiful Northern Norway's landscape is.Written March 30, 2024
- cheryls6430 contributionsReally enjoyable, great music, beautiful voiceI really enjoyed this concert. It was an interesting mix of organ/piano, tenor saxophone and soprano and a lovely selection of music - familiar and not so familiar. It was my first night in Tromsø and a lovely way to start my trip.Written March 26, 2024
- 2ChristineB0 contributionsWonderful experience, beautiful dogs and sceneryWonderful experience. The dogs are so friendly and clearly love sledding. We had a lovely soup (vegetarian for me and I was told the fish soup was also good) and a hot drink and then we went out on the sleds. At first I was a little worried as there seemed to be a lot to take into consideration when in control but it was really easy actually and so much fun! Also incredibly beautiful I got some stunning photos. The staff were all really nice and friendly as well. Was a really special experience, fully recommend it!Written March 25, 2024
- Tracy F0 contributionsA few more disappointments than positivesDOG SLED EXCURSION: PROS: The man who dealt with us on the help desk when it was cancelled really did do everything he could to help us and showed genuine empathy. Full refund was given. CONS: No communication prior to cancelling, just waited for us all to turn up to the desk ready and excited (I don't believe it was that last minute a decision). No options at all for alternatives. Other dog sled company didn't cancel and were even more remote location (plus told me this was perfect weather and they never understood why big tour operators cancel). NORTHERN LIGHTS CHASE BY MINI BUS: PROS: When we did finally set up the campfire, the atmosphere was nice and beautiful remote setting. There was initial excitement doing the 'chase' but it did wear off quite quickly especially as I was feeling so ill from the heat on the bus. CONS: Bus ridiculously hot - felt ill. She said this was how they like to keep the bus. With the weather being very bad for most of the evening plus we had been told activity was not likely to improve, a few of us agreed it might be best to call it a night (which the guide agreed with) and we asked for a vote (which didn't happen) but we ended up staying till 12.20 which was described as the magic hour (felt this was more what the guide wanted to do) Very late before finding somewhere to stay and light a fire and we still hadn't eaten or even had a hot drink which kept being mentioned. One person was complaining about no opportunity for toilet break in 3 hours. We were told we would be having a sandwich or wrap which would have been easy to eat and filling. Instead we were given turmat soup in a packet which we were put off eating after the guide told us how difficult they were to use and eat from. So we had no food all evening in the end. I would have brought snacks if I'd known. It would have been even more difficult to eat as there were no fold away stools or chairs to sit on. So we were basically stood the whole time and a few of us had to keep going and sitting on the bus. It felt like we were just waiting around to be taken home. When the tripod and professional camera was set up by the guide this became her main focus for the rest of the time with little interaction with us or checking how we were doing. Could see a couple of times I needed to get past on/off bus but was made to wait several minutes each time. While I was on the bus resting my legs and trying to warm up a bit the guide took professional photos of only 2 couples (which I didn't know about at the time). We should have all been made aware this was happening and each had a professional photo to download, very disappointing. A group of the tour were shown a small green area through her zoomed in camera (this was not visible to the naked eye) and I couldn't see being at the back. When the group moved away I asked if I could also have a look only to be told 'I already zoomed in on the photo for them to see'. Basically didn't want to do it again for me, which would have only taken seconds. A shame as my camera even with night mode didn't pick anything up. My 3 stars are for: Full refund for dog sled. How the man at the help desk tried to help. Pros of northern lights chase as mentioned above. Sadly a few more cons than pros and I think I would rethink booking excursions through a big tour operator. My advice is to use smaller family run, more personal services. I can recommend Northern lights dog adventures and I have heard that guide gunnar is very good. I know there are many positive reviews for best arctic so you may not encounter the things that we did and could have a great experience.Written March 24, 2024
- AirdocO20 contributionsWell worth it.Excellent tour. Well organised, friendly and informative. Weather conditions were not great but with persistence and guidance from Enrico we saw the lights and took some photographs. The additional major plus factor was the camp with inside fires and hot food to warm up. Highly recommended.Written March 23, 2024

- GroovyRhino0 contributionsAuthentic, great fun!For a tourist trip, with multiple coaches arriving throughout the day, they did an incredible job of keeping this authentic. From great information from enthusiastic staff, to a fireside lunch and the fantastic husky ride, it really was an amazing way to spent a few hours. A must do if you if are considering something like this, couldn't fault it.Written March 10, 2024
- 777haifaa0 contributionsBest Arctic company worst experince and a life example of dissapoitmentWorst company i delt with with zero customer satisfaction and they only care about the money. I had booked two trips on the same day with the promise that the 1st trip finishes by 5 or 6. Hence the 2nd trip was a private tour for the aurora hunt and starts by 7:30 pm. We finished the first trip and returned to tromso by 6:40 as we were late by best arctic and one meber from my group got really sick. Henc, i went online to search for an emergency number and couldnt find any. The next day i went to the office and told best arctic about the situation, and without any hesitation or consideration they told us to contact the ensurance for a refund. They didnt offer any reschedule nor refund; noting thay we paid 19,000 NOK. When I told them that we couldnt find an emergency number; they said you should call the land line. The private tour for aurora hunt was made just one day prioir and the cancelation policy gave us 48 hours gap; this made us fall in a gray area due to short term arrangment. To our surprise we were not compensated nor satisfied and we paid a fortune for this trip. My advice dont go for big names when organizng your trips as we were told that best arcyic were the best and in reality and based on our experience they were lower than expected. They only care about money.Written March 6, 2024

We pre-booked the nordlys safari long in advance to make sure this experience was done with Tromsø Safari. Unfortunately, on January 14th the weather was so inclement with 100% of cloud coverage. Weather forecast had been consistent with bad weather for over a day prior to the trip. And indeed the minibus drove us here and there over the night over icy roads and under the snow. We stopped at a supermarket and quickly in two spots hopelessly. A few tourists just remained in the minibus and slept! We then headed back to town late in the night.
Indeed it would have been fair, - knowing that we had 0% chances to see Aurora due to poor weather - that the minibus trip had been cancelled so as to allow us to enjoy a different experience, maybe with Tromso Safari as well!
Last, but not least, some of the minibus tourists relied on thermal winter suits to borrow, but we were never asked if we needed any. Furthermore, for the 15 participants, only 6 tripods were available.
This worked a bit differently with other tour operators....

The best tour company in Tromsø. Reliable and really knowledgeable! I’ve been on tours with them before (2019) and they were the obvious choice this time around as well. Our guide Lorenzo and driver Andreas did their outmost to give us a great night on our minibus aurora chase. We went to the most beautiful places and they told us about the area as well as keeping an eye out for the aurora so that we could just relax. When the aurora appeared they were very fast at getting the cameras ready so that we could enjoy the show! It was such a great experience and we will remember this evening forever!

We had a wonderful experience with Paolo and Andreas as our guides. They went above and beyond throughout the trip to share their knowledge and their enthusiasm about the surroundings.
We had a tour with a different company the night before and can't believe how much better value this was. It's shocking they get away with charging similar prices for such a different experience.
Highly recommend!
Thank you Paolo, Andreas, Rosie and everyone for putting so much love and care into this experience.

Due to bad weather forecast the excursion went ahead for a 2 hour drive towards Finland.
After 1.5 hours standing in cold and windy conditions, the tour guide decided to go back to Tromso. This was another 2 hour drive.
Heavy rain and snow fall during this night.
This excursion should have been canceled by the tour operator from the start.
Very unprofessional and not worth booking again with this organisation.
There was an offer of 25% discount on the same tour the next night. However, it would have been more appreciated if the tour was canceled and moved to the following night.
We definitely believe that the tour operator didn’t want to cancel this excursion due to financial loss.

Excellent in every way, from the advice given at the desk in the Radisson to the incredible chase and catching of the lights! Fun and anticipation, both in great comfort. Sebastian is from Colombia, but had so much enthusiasm and passion for Norway it was infectious…..the local driver used his military experience and skills to drive nearly 200 miles at super speeds through blizzards and snow storms to find the openings…. where we all enjoyed the spectacle of the Northern lights….the two made a great team for a really memorable night. Congratulations and thanks.

I must say I don’t usually write reviews but this was just outrageous. I know it’s not always possible to see the northern lights but I can’t believe how they ended up going somewhere that we can’t see anything even though the northern lights were visible from the city centre that night!
This was supposed to be a northern lights tour but they went to a place and waited there to see the lights even though that place was not good at all - then they didn’t even bother to try going another place at all!
There was no information given, nothing about the northern lights was shared even though my friends who went to other tours learned a lot of useful information!
It says this trip takes more than 6 hours but it only took 3 hours, the food was different than what was said in the information too.
Definitely a tourist trap and there are much better tours that you can go!

One of the only things I wanted to see on my trip to Tromsø was the Northern Lights. Tromsø is a fantastic city, but it was made even better and more memorable with an Aurora Safari Camp where they took us to the best possible location to see the lights, taught us how to take pictures and also taught us the science behind the northern lights. It was such a fun experience to watch the lights above our cabin (and they also had endless hot chocolates, tea and coffees for us!!). I'll be back to Tromsø 100% to fall in love with the city all over again.

Just have pleasant things to address, regarding my aurora chasing activity. Starting on the guide, Gudmund, a very friendly and passionate guide that perfectly knew how to engage with the customer. The perfect example of , when doing what they love , the results are very satisfying. We manage to found Aurora activity, against all the odds, which made this experience remarkable. The fire at the Sami tent was also so relaxing and cosy.

I was bought this tour as my 60th birthday gift and it did not disappoint. Despite cloudy conditions we were able to see the northern lights at every stop. Arcs across the sky, movement, greens/red colour, horizon glow, and filaments. I was astonished.
The guides worked well to find us the best spots and maximise our enjoyment.
The hot chocolate was very welcome and we all returned to our hotel very happy.
Our coach was brand new with an excellent knowledgeable driver (we even swapped binoculars to look at the andromeda galaxy!) and our Polish guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Sorry I forget names! But thank you so much!
I will upload a few photos taken with my mobile but I am looking forward to purchasing a few more from the website.
Excellent!!!!!

Best Aurora Tour in Tromsø!
I loved my experience booking with Tromsø Safari from start to finish! The guides were incredibly friendly, knowledgable, and professional. For this tour we booked the Aurora Minibus!
Why I Loved Booking the Minibus
- It’s flexible! You literally “chase” the lights to find the best viewing spot!
- Smaller groups
- Your guides build a warm bonfire to keep you toasty warm with hot drinks and Norwegian snacks
Tromsø Safari is also great for photographers! They have tripods you can borrow for your professional cameras, and are available for helpful tips with your setting.
If you’re not a photographer at all the guides will take fantastic photos of the landscape and of you using their professional cameras! The photos are all included in the tour and you can download them the next day from their website! The guides at Tromsø Safari are great at taking pictures of you with the Auroras! They know all the secrets to capture the perfect photo. You’ll have these photos FOREVER!
If you’re looking for the best aurora company in Tromsø you’ve found it at Tromsø Safari!
