Incredible Northern Lights Experience with Wandering Owl
We joined two full Aurora tours with Wandering Owl, and they absolutely delivered! Their eco-friendly approach to sustainable travel made the experience even better. The vans are comfortable (with charging ports!) and fit up to 16 people. On arrival, you get thermal suits and boots—super helpful in the Arctic cold. They set up a cozy campfire with hot soup, chocolate, and cookies, making the wait for the lights even more enjoyable. The first night was UNREAL—the Aurora put on a full show, dancing across the sky in vibrant colors. Our guide Tomas was fantastic, and Lukasz drove us safely to the perfect spot. The next night was just as magical—guide Lucas and driver Illiyan took us to a stunning fjord location, and the Northern Lights dazzled us all over again! Wandering Owl’s professionalism, prime viewing spots, and passion for sustainable travel made this a bucket-list experience.

      Poor customer service
The communication from the main office is subpar. Our tour was initially cancelled due to weather (after it had already started. I would note that pretty much every other company cancelled much before that so I question why they proceeded out when other companies cancelled). We were offered an opportunity to rebook or receive a refund. We attempted to delay providing a response but found the office to be quite pushy about getting us to go again. We untimely decided to try and go but had to cancel. We attempted to get a refund and the office was not helpful or understanding at all. We used other companies while in Tromsø who I found to be easier to work with. I wouldn’t use this as your first option.

      A life-changing experience
My aurora hunt with Tomás and Maciej was truly magical. The mini bus was warm and comfortable and we could stop off part-way into the drive to use the toilet and buy snacks. We were told we were heading to Finland to give us the best chance to see the northern lights, but this changed suddenly and we headed towards the Swedish border instead. On the way to our location, our guide Tomás made the trip fun by getting to know each member of the group, sharing his knowledge on Norway, quizzing us on fjords, and explaining how they track the aurora. Tomás was worried as there was cloud forecast for 11pm and we stopped a couple of times to check the skies. Eventually, after some excellent driving by Maciej, we arrived at our destination - a big clearing in the Dividal forest. At first, the aurora was faint, but as the night went on the sky exploded with colour. Tomás’ excitement and enthusiasm was infectious and he ran around in the snow photographing members of the group and the aurora. Those who were cold were offered thermal suits and boots, and Maciej got to work building a campfire to keep us warm. We were given delicious soup made with locally grown veg, hot chocolate, and biscuits. At the end, we all laid down in the snow staring up at the sky before Maciej had to drag us back onto the bus to head back to Tromsø. On the way home, Tomás told us the different beliefs surrounding the aurora and the science behind it before giving us a chance to sleep if we weren’t too excited by the night’s events. Everyone got dropped off at their hotels and they made sure there were taxis available for me to get back to my Airbnb. I would thoroughly recommend booking this trip, it was well-organised and run by guides like Tomás who have a genuine love and enthusiasm for nature and aurora hunting.

Researched and travelled far to give us the best chance of seeing the lights. Would recommend
The forecast was not entirely optimistic but we headed to Finland to give us the best chance and we did indeed see the lights 😁 Javi, our guide, and Jodnas, our driver, worked really well together. Javi was enthusiastic and provided lots of information on route. As far as we can tell, he did everything to maximise our chances of seeing the lights. I have seen another tour reviews for the same night where the lights were not seen. The turnip soup was amazing (I’d love the recipe!) and the mocha & cookies were great too. The minibus was comfortable and we had a great group of fellow travellers from all over. Even on the return journey Jodnas stopped in a lay-by as he and Javi could see the lights were around us so we got a second look. The included photos were so much better than we could take for ourselves. Thank you Would recommend the tour

Amazing Northern Lights from frozen Finnish Lake
We had an incredible tour, leaving from Tromsø with Marcin expertly driving us through blizzard conditions and our brilliant tour guide Isaac pushing us on towards the Finnish border in search of clear skies and the hope of seeing the aurora. It was a long drive towards Finland but Isaac kept us entertained and engaged with facts about Norway and the aurora, explaining how they go about forecasting to give us the best possible chances of seeing the lights, and explaining the science behind the phenomenon. We stopped a couple of times while Isaac got out to check the sky, but he decided we should keep pushing on to Finland, which turned out to be the perfect decision as we arrived just in time for a spectacular display of the aurora. As soon as we got out of the minibus I was struck by the amazing starry sky, unlike anything I had ever seen, a faint band of aurora was already visible. We all got into our thermal suits and boots and made our way down onto the frozen lake. Soon after getting down onto the lake, the aurora came alive. Lights began to streak across the sky, with patterns appearing right above our heads. We could see the aurora moving and changing shape, with waves running through it and pillars of light glowing brightly against the starry sky. Isaac took our photos and instructed us on how to take the best photos to capture the moment. After a while gazing at the aurora, a campfire was set up and we all sat around it having soup, coffee, hot chocolate and cookies. This was an incredible experience which I cannot recommend enough and give praise to our brilliant tour guide, Isaac, whose expertise ensured we got the best chance to see this amazing display.

      Beautiful scenery & nice guide
Gerard took us to Kvayola and Sommaroy. We saw some amazing scenery, fjords, lakes, plenty of snow, some reindeer, and we had a picnic on the beach at Sommaroy. Gerard had plenty of interesting facts, and stories for us, and because I had brought my camera and various lenses, he was trying to find me nice spots for photos. He was attentive to everyone in the group (we were 8) as some of us were a bit scared of walking on icy patches. I liked the fact that he suggested we swapped seats throughout the excursion so that everyone had the opportunity to sit at the front and enjoy the scenery. He took great photos of us, which I was grateful for. As a solo traveller, I don't often get photos of myself (I don't like selfies much). I recommend this tour if you like stunning landscapes. Thank you Gerard, I had a great time.

Not worth, there are better companies out there.
Not worth it. The day of our tour had bad weather, but instead of cancelling it, the company decide to have the tour anyway. The guide and driver did not seem to have a lot of experience with the region. We told them that other guides and vans were going towards Finland and they refused. That said, we did not see the Aurora, but everyone else who drove towards Finland saw it.

Disappointing Value and Comfort Despite Attentive Guide**
I rated this tour two stars due to the significant disparity between the high price point and the overall experience. While the tour guide was attentive, the tour itself fell short of expectations in several key areas. My booking was a last-minute decision, made after another tour was unexpectedly cancelled. Although I had previously researched this company, I initially hesitated due to the premium pricing and the extensive liability waiver and photo release form. While the company clarified via WhatsApp that I could opt out of photo usage, the initial requirement was concerning. The tour comprised approximately 30 participants, divided into two minibuses. My group primarily consisted of casual observers using mobile phones, resulting in early cessation of photography efforts. While the guide diligently entertained the group, I sought a more serene experience to appreciate the aurora. The guide actively sought me out at one point and asked if I need any snacks/tea/help with photography, which I appreciated. The other group with a few serious photographers enjoyed a more prolonged viewing experience. My group got tired of waiting after the initial aurora display, they opted to depart around 10:30 PM. I have conveyed to the guide on my concerns about a potential second show based on the KP index. Our guide assured me she would stop if other guides reported aurora activity. True to her word, she stopped near a restroom after receiving news of another display. However, I suspect we missed the initial phase of this second show, and it ended shortly after we stopped. The return journey was marred by significant discomfort and safety concerns. Two larger individuals moved to the back row, resulting in severe overcrowding. The lady next to me was unable to fasten her seatbelt. Despite my request, the guide was unable to find alternative seating, leaving me feeling unsafe and cramped. Considering the substantial cost of this tour, basic passenger safety and comfort should be non-negotiable. Furthermore, the provided outerwear was inadequate. Despite providing my shoe size (38-39), the boots were too small. Similarly, the provided XS suit for my 158cm frame, despite assurances via WhatsApp that it should fit even with my thick down coat, was excessively tight and restrictive. In summary, while the guide's attentiveness was commendable, the tour's high price did not align with the experience. The cramped conditions, inadequate outerwear, and shorter viewing time compared to the other group left me feeling disappointed and dissatisfied. I expected a more comfortable, safe, and fulfilling experience for the price paid.

Amazing experience even with bad weather
We had very little hope of seeing the northern lights since it was snowing non-stop since we landed in Tromso. However we drove 2 hours and were within a few minutes of driving into Finland when Lucas our guide spotted the lights. It was spectacular and memorable. We got great video and photos of the lights and even got to see purple and red lights in addition to the green. Strongly recommend going with the wandering owl group for improving chances of finding the lights.

      Beautiful Northern lights tour!
A truly wonderful evening made even more special by our guide and driver for the night, Tomas and Michael. Beautiful location, interesting stories by the campfire, warm comfort food, brilliant photos taken and getting to watch the dancing lights in the sky was everything we hoped for! Would 100% recommend Wandering Owl to anyone chasing lights in magical Tromsø.

Saw the lights for the first time!
I went with my girlfriend Liza. Our guides Tomas and Michael were fantastic! They found us a spot to see the aurora on a pretty cloudy night where expectations were low. Tomas was super knowledgeable and friendly. The tour overall was great, we were given nice warm over coats and boots and sat by the fire after we got to take pictures in front of the northern lights. Michael was also clearly a great driver and handled the snow really well. Overall a fantastic experience.

Wandering Owl deserves it's many good reviews
Did 2 tours on 2 consecutive nights. On both nights, the tour guides (Lucas and Lukasz, and Erika and Lukasz) were highly personable, knowledgeable and engaging. Aurora viewing was simply stunning both nights- lucky enough to experience 2 nights with very different aurora character. Unforgettable. Professional photographs taken by the tour guides were really beautiful. The admin team at Wandering Owl are really excellent- highly responsive to enquiries and any issues relating to bookings. Would tour with this company again.

Amazing tour, we had zero hopes to be able to watch an Aurora because the day had been cloudy and snowing, but thanks to the costant sync of Isaac and Vitek with other colleagues and taking into account the forecast we were able to see an aurora. Amazing team!

We went on the tour with guide Henrik and had amazing time. He was very talkative, shared a lot of interesting facts and stories and fostered an atmosphere for the group to start talking to each other. He also took very nice pictures of us and the landscape and kept the whole experience fun, interesting and safe. It was my first time showshoeing and I had absolutely no issues. The views were amazing. Would definitely go again.

We joined for a hike in October. Gerard, our guide, was excellent! He took us to a really quiet spot and then led us up to a lovely viewpoint for lunch (great coffee!). There was a good amount of hiking on challenging terrain (would recommend hiking footwear) and Gerard did a great job of handling a mixed-ability group.

We went for 4 nights and managed to fit three main trips with the northern light chasing and the Reindeer and Fjords. This trip was booked when our dog sledging trip was cancelled (by another company ). This trip ended up being the highlight of our trip to Tromso and highly recommend and combined really well with the trip the day before in a minibus to the Fjords and feeding the reindeers. In that trip we covered more distance and a few quick stops at different locations. In this trip we were able to enjoy ad feel part of the artic scenery and really appreciate the landscape. Our guide Anthony was fantastic and was able to connect with everyone in our group with a variety of nationalities and hiking experiences. We were a group of 13 in the bus but then split into two smaller groups which worked well with one group more experienced with hiking/snowshoeing. The snowshoes were easy to use and the location was incredible with the top point having a view up the Fjord withy the sea in the distance and surrounded by mountains to the sides and behinds. Anthony went out of his way to help take photos/videos with peoples cameras and took a number with his camera which was high quality and these have been shared for us to download. The lunch provided was excellent and the homemade cookies and hot chocolate great to finish and give energy boost for the return trek. I would love to go back in the summer months and would prioritise this trip and company (and guide).

The snowshoe hike itself was enjoyable and scenic, despite the poor weather. Our guide, Javi, was friendly. However, I was disappointed with the overall experience, leading me to rate it only a 3 out of 5. The cost of €135 per person for a hike lasting less than three hours felt excessive. My biggest complaint is the picnic lunch, which was frankly a joke. It consisted of a plain sandwich with only tomato sauce, a few salad leaves, and a pickle. We weren't even provided with bottled water, and there was no provision for seating during the picnic. It's unacceptable for a company charging over €130 per person to offer such a poor lunch. They really need to reconsider their pricing and, especially, the quality of the food they provide.

Hello there, Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the scenic snowshoe hike despite the weather not being at its best and that Javi provided a friendly guiding experience. We understand that value for money is important, and we recognize that some aspects of the experience did not meet your expectations. The duration of our tour is clearly stated on our website, and while the hike itself lasts around three hours, the experience also includes transportation, snowshoe gear, and an experienced guide to ensure a safe and enjoyable adventure in Arctic conditions. Regarding the picnic, we strive to provide a simple yet substantial meal suited for the outdoor setting. The sandwich includes homemade hummus, fresh salad, and pickles. We do our best to provide detailed information about the inclusions on our website so guests can have a clear understanding of what to expect. We appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration as we continuously work to improve our offerings. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts—we appreciate the opportunity to enhance our guests' experiences. We hope you’ll consider joining us again in the future for another adventure.

Had an absolutely amazing snowshoeing hike! We were lucky to have a beautiful day, and our guide Evgeni made the experience even better. He was fun, knowledgeable, and ensured we were comfortable every step of the way while leading us to stunning views of Oldervik.

That being said, snowshoeing isn’t just a casual stroll—this was a real hike with some semi-challenging terrain. If you’re looking for an active adventure, I highly recommend it! It was a fantastic experience, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

An awesome experience! The tour started in Tromsø, where we met our tour guide Peter. The group was just 8 people from all over the world. I liked that international atmosphere. Peter was very knowledgeable about the area and explained a lot. All questions were answered. He took us first to a nice spot at the fjord to show us the scenery and then to a small parking lot in the mountains, where the adventure started. The tour was uphill, about 130m/430ft elevation gain and took about two hours for the round trip. On top of the peak, there was a nice picknick with sandwich, cookies and hot chocolate. The view of the mountains and fjords was breathtaking. Peter took beautiful pictures of everyone, much better, than any selfie can be... It was a great tour and I can recommend this tour to everyone, who wants to be a little more active than just sitting in buses for sight seeing (which is also very nice, of course)

We had booked the snowshoe hike but in the end, given the absence of snow, it was a trekking outing.
Anna and Gerard took us around nature showing us breathtaking landscapes, telling us about Tromso and a little bit of its history, cuddling us with a picnic and lots of laughter.
Departure from Tromso with an assorted bus of Americans, Italians, French. Arrived at a location north of Tromso. Walk in the woods, river crossings, feet sinking in mud and snow, traces of scattered flora and fauna, picnic prepared by them with hot chocolates, tea, coffee, vegetarian sandwiches and biscuits.
Lots of photographs and lots of laughter.
    Super recommended.

Amazing snowshoeing experience with Anthony, our devoted and enthusiastic guide. The tour is very accessible, revealing breathtaking landscapes all along the hike. Appreciable snacks and hot beverages on the top (especially the hot chocolate), then meal together at the end. Small party of 8 people feels more intimate, perfect to avoid overcrowded activities.

Went on my first snowshoeing tour in Tromsø with the guide Anthony. It was a truly magical experience on a sunny day in a white landscape. Anthony was an amazing guide and chose a mountain top with a stunning view. He was both talkative and informative and tried to include and talk with everybody in the group. The hiking pace depended on the group, so everyone could follow, and we made a few stops along the way to take photos. There was plenty of time to take photos and he would also take photos with his own camera of the group/individuals and share them afterwards. The photos were really good. It was a small group tour of maximum 8, so it felt very personal. I can highly recommend this snowshoeing tour with a small group and professionel guide! It was an absolutely memorable experience!
