About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- taylorbW9960FG0 contributionsOne of the best!Fantastic food tour! Roland is a lifelong Vienna resident and knows a ton about the history, culture, and of course food of the city. Also very outgoing and friendly. Highly recommend at the start of your trip to scope out good food spots.Written September 12, 2024
- David D0 contributionsWonderfulI have been on several food tours all over the world. This ranks as one of the very best. The dialogue was directed the food excellent . Come hungry. Roland was greatWritten October 8, 2019
- yiersanbu0 contributionsOutstanding experienceI did the Vienna food walk with my girlfriend in July 2019 and we had Roland as our guide. If you want to save time and not read a lot reviews, then just book this tour and you’ll be very happy you did. Roland was an excellent guide, who had such an infectious passion for his city and it’s food culture. I’ve been on food tours that were strictly about food or eating which only get you stuffed and not much else, and that is not this tour. This tour is centered on food, but uses the topic of eating in Vienna as a conduit for a deeper understanding of the city and it’s historical and contemporary culture. Roland was a fountain of knowledge about all things Vienna, Austria, and beyond. We left completely stuffed and with a better understanding of the food we ate, and coffee, wine, and beer we drank. Roland also was full of recommendations for both food and tourism. I recommend doing this tour at the beginning of your stay in Vienna to take advantage of everything Roland can offer recommendation wise. I’ve been trying to think of a better food tour I’ve been on, but nothing comes close. Roland even switched the scheduled tour date just to accommodate us. Just quit debating which tour to do and book this one.Written August 5, 2019
- TTown_josh0 contributionsFood and HistoryHad a great food tour with Roland. You can tell he is passionate about food and his city. If you are in Vienna, you’re there to make memories and this is a great one to make. Had an unforgettable time and highly recommend if you want to taste the local cuisine while getting a history lesson.Written June 27, 2019
- nycap0 contributionsGreat eveningWe enjoyed the tour and our host. The food and drink were both representative and plentiful. We learned about local culture and history, while having lots of laughs with the others on our tourWritten June 14, 2019
- nicnag0 contributionsNot to be missed! We completed this tour with Roland and Brigitte last night. There were 6 of us in total. Both Roland and Brigitte clearly love their city and shared that with us. My partner has mobility issues and they were able to modify our trip slightly in terms of seating in venues to include him which we greatly appreciated. We had a lovely evening together and learned much about Vienna and Austria and it’s food! Roland sent us an email after the tour with information about the places we visited and some extra recommendations based on the questions we asked. He even sent us some recipes! We would highly recommend this tour.Written April 15, 2019

- Andrea S0 contributionsGreat Food Tour!I toured with Brigitte. I enjoyed learning more about Vienna as well as trying new things to eat. We visited places locals would go that I likely wouldn't have found on my own. There was plenty to eat and drink and Brigitte was very friendly. She immediately followed up with information on how to find the places we visited and added a few more of her favorites. Highly recommend!Written March 14, 2019
- emilyeb090 contributionsHighlight of ViennaWhat better way to learn the history and people than to walk the streets and eat many kinds of food with the knowledgable Roland. I learned more in this tour (and ate more) than I did the rest of my time there combined. I enjoyed all the cultural quirks and tidbits he shared while ordering up the best brats, beers and pretzels' etc. From high end diners to street vendors, it was a really fabulous experience.Written February 24, 2019
- Tim-USA1239870 contributionsPerfect Food TourThis was an all-timer. The food was out of this world and Brigitte was a phenomenal guide. You hit all the good spots here and there are a few places I would never have found but will go back to many times when I return to Vienna. Highly recommend!Written January 9, 2019
- Jennifer G0 contributionsGreat Food and Great FunI took the Vienna Food Walk tour with Roland last week, and it was the perfect way to round out my first solo visit to Vienna. We had a very small group - three of us, plus Roland. I think that helped make the experience more enjoyable, since we weren't trying to squeeze a big group into the places we visited. There were five stops on the tour, with just enough of a walk in between, all within the First District. Good variety of food, starting from appetizers, through main dishes, a stop at a Wurst stand, and ending with coffee and dessert. Each stop had beer and wine options as well as non-alcoholic drinks if preferred. Roland was an excellent and engaging guide who loved to talk and share the history of the sites we visited and the food we tasted. The conversation between the four of us was very interesting and wide-ranging, and this made the tour even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour, both for the food as well as for the interesting history and the walk around Vienna. Thank you, Roland!Written December 13, 2018
- davidbJ8540VZ0 contributionsGreat Food and History Roland was the Best! Our guide Roland walked us around Vienna, spoke about the buildings and culture in a informative historical context. We sampled food that as tourist we never would have known to order. Well worth it!Written November 18, 2018
- Voyage032275454410 contributionsAn Outstanding TimeOur guide, Roland, was fantastic! He took us to great locations, introduced us to great food, and provided context for everything we were eating. Vienna was a stop on our Viking River Cruise. We took in many tours and sights over ten days, and my favorite moment was our time with Roland. He treated us the way a foodie would treat dear friends visiting his home city for the first time. I highly recommend.Written October 31, 2018
- tferris820 contributionsA deliciously fun time!I had a great experience on this tour! My guide was Roland, who was a very warm and welcoming person. He is a native Austrian (though not native to Vienna; he joked that his wife reminds him of that all the time) who was well-versed in the history and culture of the area. He was entertaining the entire tour and would take the time to explain to us why he had chosen the specific food and drink options and what their relevance was in the Austrian culture. There were a total of six of us on the tour (including Roland), and we met in a central location near the Herrengasse U station. The total tour lasted about 3-4 hours and we walked from place to place (a total of 5 different places). About three of the stops were appetizers, one was the main course, and the last was dessert and coffee. Each of the stops had wine or beer as well (or a non-alcoholic option). If you are wondering if there was enough food...yes, there was a crazy amount. Roland told us that the Austrian culture is to receive too much food because the chefs feel insulted if you are able to finish everything that is put in front of you, as it means they did not feed you enough. Afterwards, we were sent emails reminding us of the places and food items we had as well as tips for the remainder of our time in Vienna. Overall, I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is looking to learn some things about Vienna while also eating delicious food along the way!Written October 27, 2018

Roland was a very good guide with a lot of background knowledge.
The selected restaurants were all very good and some would be very difficult to find as a tourist.
The food and drinks were consistently very good.
All in all, a very successful evening.
Many thanks to Roland!!!!!

This tour was fantastic and I highly recommend it, not only for the food but for the feeling that you're living like a local who is justifiably passionately in love with this city. Roland took us to five places to eat for a nice variety of food, drinks, and atmosphere. All of it was delicious and interesting--well paired with wine or beer although non alcoholic is also available--especially with his stories about its history and significance and the region where that item came from. We went from hole in the wall to foodie-chic to traditional and hearty (in the oldest building in Vienna) to street food (sausage stand) to a 'first wave' coffee shop with amazing deserts, then a post-feast walk to some historical gems hidden in plain sight. He's a hilarious and fascinating guy and honestly goes all out to make you fall in love with Vienna in a whole new way. Make sure you come hungry.

This was like an evening with your friend in Vienna. We went to places we would never have found on our own filled with charm and history and delicious food. We experienced the countryside and the city via our pallets along with exploring and seeing sights not shared on our city walking tour. Roland provided us with such an amazing insight into the character (and stomachs) of Vienna and its surrounding countryside. If we could give this six stars we would. It was definitely one of the best memories we have of our time in Vienna.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time with Roland. It felt like we were with a host vs on a tour. Roland is very personable and has a good knowledge of the history and food of Vienna. We were well-fed. There is no way you will be hungry. We had appetizer sandwiches, delicious ham, tasty sausages, hearty goulash and beef. We finished our night with coffee and desserts at a neighborhood cafe. We wouldn't found these spots on our own. It was great to not be in the touristy restaurants. Roland was nice enough to walk us to the Christmas market so we could see the lights at night. This tour was one of the best food tours I've done across Europe.

I have been on many food tours all around Europe, but this was one of the best, if not the best, food tour! It's exactly what I wanted from a food tour:
- great food, with an emphasis on traditional dishes from the region
- an introduction to food customs, including fun stories of the history of the dishes and how they relate to culture (for example, why do you never cut a bread dumpling with the sharp side of a knife?)
- I good mix of historical background and information about the city; while it was a food tour, you get a tour of Vienna as a great bonus
- a funny, affable host that really enjoys the subject matter of the tour; Roland's enthusiasm for food, history, and culture were always impressive
- a knowledgable guide: from recipes, cooking techniques, historical stories, and Austrian customs, Roland answered all my questions and more!

We really enjoyed our food tour last week with Roland. Food was traditional Austrian/Viennese, tasty and plentiful and equalled by the drinks. Roland was an informative guide, both in terms of food and history/landmarks etc. A great way to see and feel the city, would happily recommend!
