    Briefly Bruegel
A first visit for all of us! We purchased admission tickets online a few months ahead. We did not purchase audio guides, a tour, or tickets to the special exhibit, and still enjoyed the Museum. Tickets were for admission anytime, not for a specific time slot. We arrived about 2:30 pm Saturday, joined moderate crowds. We went specifically to view the Bruegel room. The paintings were awesome, but the display offered only the most basic English descriptions. To enhance our experience, we bought an English copy of Bruegel in the museum gift shop. I also spotted the Klimt frescoes in the upper corners of the main staircase; binoculars would help! There is much to see if your schedule allows another hour or two! Entrance was behind a busy Christmas Market. Even with market crowds, walk from Hofburg was under 10 minutes. Look at the museum website before your visit if you wish to focus on highlights. Pick up the museum map at the entrance. We carried our coats. Main staircase has a lot of very wide stairs!

There is no skip the line option. We still had to stand in line at ticket counter then get in the regular line.

    Don’t Miss
Loved this place. Wonderful and varied architecture. World famous paintings and more obscure treasures side by side. Sculptures and working mechanicals too (make sure to watch movie as they are not on for the public). I was woh a tour group but would be there two hours minimum without that.

Lovely art but can get very crowded
The variety of art and historical artifacts on show make the entry price worth it in my opinion, but I strongly recommend going midweek, early morning, or some other quiet time as when it is busy you can end up queing to enter (even if you've got tickets in advance) as well as queing once in for the cloakroom (we waited 10 minutes to drop off our coats and 20 to collect them later). We definitely would have enjoyed our visit more if we had chosen to go at a quieter time.

Gruelling entry requirements, but stunning baroque building and superb art work.
We turned up before it opened on a Monday morning and already the ticket booth queues were long. To make matters worst at one point out of four tellers only one was operational. Tried to book on line but not possible on the day. You have to get e tickets the day before so be warned! Once in though it was almost worth it. Beautiful baroque interior with viewing galleries. The art exhibits are superb. The shops are worth visiting as well. In all I recommend you book on line at least one day in advance and get there when it opens. If it’s a spur of the moment decision be prepared to queue.

Stunning art in a beautiful museum
This was the first museum I visited when I arrived in Vienna and it didn't disappoint. The interior is beautiful, architecturally and artistically eye-catching The museum contains major works of art from Dürer, Raphael, Titian and Velázquez as well as the world's largest collection of Bruegel paintings. I guess Vienna is a big fan of his work. The Kunstkammer Vienna contained works of art collected by the various members of the Habsburg dynasty from the 16th century onwards. There is SO much to see and you can easily spend a few days (or a week or two) in here. Even if art isn't your jam, this is a museum you shouldn't miss!

Appalling museum cafe service and silly ticketing procedures spoil a perfect visit
We attended the Rembrant exhibition, which was superb. So many of his paintings plus others by his contemporary/ student Hoogsraten. Also Rubens and many other interesting artists. This took us 3-4 hours , we also hired an audio device which gave the background to the painting and the painter for each picture. We had two issues which prevented us giving the museum 5 stars. 1. We had purchased our tickets online from the museum, and had managed to print out the details showing ticket numbers, price paid, type of ticket. When we presented these at the entrance, we were told we had to obtain another ticket from a booth outside if the museum( why?) . We did this but had ti go to the back of the queue which was galling as we had arrived early and had been at the front of the queue. What an unnecessary waste of our time and what a silly process. 2. After looking at the paintings we were flagging a bit for convenience we decided to get some refreshments in the museum cafe. We had to queue up for 20-15 mins to be given a table, then another 10mins to be seated by a sniddy waiter who made a sarcastic comment when i asked him if he spoke english It seemed all of the waiters were swanning around showing a complete lack of any sense of urgency , all parties were given two tables rather than one, effectively reducing the number of available places and leaving the cafe only half full. Eventually we paid after having to wait 10mins for the same waiter to provide a bill( which had been requested at least 5 times to him and other waiters ) he then complained to me for my abruptness and that he had to serve other customers.I explained , that we needed to leave to catch our shuttle bus so could not afford to waste any more time. I was exasperated by thier attitude and poor service which would not be tolerated in the real world of a commercial cafe/ restaurant, thier focus should be on the customer and the customers convenience

    The cruelest painting ever
Just had a chance to spend 3 hours in this amazing museum. I would certainly recommend half a day. It was rushed, as I had limited time for this childhood dream of mine. The breathtaking museum, the Egyptian collection, the ultimate Bruegel collection, and that cruelest painting ever: Dürer's "The Martydom of the Ten Thousand". Terrified me when I was a kid and looked at the museum book, still does as I see it. I cannot name all the masterpieces that blow me away, but I can point out to the amusing Otto Van Veen's "Persian Women" and to a collection of objects wisely and carefully described as "Precious Natural Materials in Early Baroque Art".

Beautiful Museum Building with lots of Artistic Displays
The building of this museum was just as beautiful and historic as the adjacent Museum of Natural History Vienna (Naturhistorisches Museum Wien), with the beautiful Maria-Theresien-Platz park/garden separating the two. Had a lot of displays on art both on paintings and other forms of art - which was lovely to look at considering I'm an art lover, prices weren't that expensive and has a cafe/restaurant inside. Also is very convenient for public transport with the buses & trams nearby and also not too far from the U-Bahn (Metro).

Fabulous museum which needs more than one visit
Stunning exterior and interior of the building. Wide range of artworks to feast your eyes on. As with many national galleries, there's a lot on display! Slightly confusing layout, it took me a while to find the Bruegel gallery, despite the museum boasting of having the largest and most important collection. I bought a ticket on the day from the booth in front of the museum, maybe had to wait 10 minutes.

    KHM - Impressive Collection
There are many regional, lesser known artists on display. Quantity more than quality, but still well worth a visit. We bought tickets in advance; but probably not as critical for a mid-Sept visit (not much of a line). Plenty of tours available, which admittedly would likely have made our visit more informative/interesting.

    Not to be missed
This was an incredible art museum with somewhat poor flow and labeling of rooms. We found ourselves lost on more than one occasion. With that said, we marveled at the art. A surprise favorite of mine was Arcimboldo's Portraits of the Seasons. What a sense of the bizarre and weird from an artist of the 1500's.

    Kunsthistorisches Museum
Spent 3 hours exploring the Kunsthistorisches Museum and could have easily stayed longer. The collection of amazing paintings is impressive, with Bruegel’s The Tower of Babel being the highlight. The Egyptian artifacts were also fascinating and added a nice variety to the experience. Highly recommend!

    Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna
The European paintings collection makes this museum one of the best in the world with good a Dutch Golden Age collection on display. They also have a large antiquity wing with the Ancient Egypt section having some pieces as old as the Old Kingdom (4-5 dynasties). The interior of the museum is very impressive, some frescoes of the central staircase painted by Gustav Klimt.

    Stunning
We had a stop over in Vienna and had looked up this place. It's a very impressive building and when you step inside it really is amazing. We were there for about 3 hours and it wasn't nearly enough time to see everything. This museum will be top of our list the next time we return to Vienna.

Whatever price they ask, pay it. THIS IS WORTH IT. Ever since kid I would read about all these famous artists, about their paintings and stories and would dream that one day I would see them. And this museum has so many famous artists, I spent more than 3 hours in this museum. My feet were sore from all the walking. Dega, Monet, Manet among many others, simply breathtaking. I could have stayed all day there and I definitely should have taken into consideration the queue and how huge this museum is. You need minimum 3 hours and that is with not long pauses at each paintings! You can easily spend the whole day there, the pictures are arranged in themes, I know some change. Most are allowed to be photographed, I wanted to take pictures on all the allowed ones, since i wanted to capture all the beauty, but in the end I decided not to and to just enjoy them in that very moment. If you value art, love art, like art, are curious about art, dont believe art is beautiful, this is the place to go. You will see how much talent there is, how amazing it is and you definitely wont regret any of the money you spent on the ticket. That experience is for life. This is culture, this is heritage, this is simply put the best gift you can grant your brain.

As a Belgian this museum is a must do as it contains one of the most impressive collections of Flemish and Dutch painters in the world. Especially the Breughel room is art at its best. Some of the legendary paintings that were shown to me in school were available here. The Greco-Roman and Egyptian parts of the museum were a bit dull to be honest, especially compared to other museums like the Pergamon museum. The coin collection at the upper floor is only for the real art fans. The collection of Italian and French paintings is also downright impressive, but didn't appeal to me as much as the Flemish and Dutch paintings. The price of admission is a bit steep imo, but the building itself is also a tour de force of architecture and worthwile the price. I stayed here for three hours, but you can lose yourself an entire day here.

I loved this visit. The building itself is worth a visit make sure to take note of the architecture as you mount the stairs. When I visit an art museum I try
To see two things- an artist I am familiar with, and one I do not know. It saves me trying to see everything in one day and being overwhelmed. There was an exhibition of Caravaggio and Bellini . It was superb. The unknown artist I selected was Brueghel. and there was a great selection of his paintings to view. While some people might feel my selection method is limiting, it makes the best use of my time and you never know what you will see along the way. I found the staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The cafe in the museum was great. Overall a fabulous visit and I will go back.

This is a review for the ticket, not the museum itself. Museum is a must see.
We visited museum in July so at busy tourist season however there was no line at all, so "skip the line" might not be even necessary here. But the voucher you receive is not a ticket - it took me twice as long to get into the museum than buying a ticket at the door. You have to go to their counter in the museum to exchange the voucher for the ticket. They cannot even scan the barcode on the voucher, I had to email it to their service email to receive an actual ticket.

We spent the afternoon of January 2023 getting a private tour with Sayed. We had 4 people- myself, husband and adult children. He had extensive knowledge of the history, art, and architecture of not only the palace and museum but also the surrounding area. He asked us if we wanted the leisurely (longer) tour with more detail or if we had somewhere to be in exactly 2 hours. We said we had lots of time and I am glad we did.

He brought us through and gave us such interesting information and stories. Many we will never forget.

The grounds are huge and could be overwhelming but Sayed walked us through and pointed out the most interesting objects. He also made sure we took time to understand the history and why it was important and went out of his way to make connections to us personally where

After we left, he took us through quiet back streets and into a church. It was just off the bustling square but felt like we were miles away.

He then left us at a quiet out of the way Viennese cafe so that we could enjoy the same experience people were getting at the popular one with a huge line.

From a booking perspective, not only was the process easy but the company sent multiple reminders including a detailed email with where to meet, what our guide’s name was, and his phone number just in case. It made what could have been a daunting experience easy.

I would highly suggest booking with this company and asking for Sayed.

The interior is imasing - rooms, cellins, stais, ... - it is worth going inside even for that, and there is more - the spandrels by Gustaw Klimt (main staircase), picture gallery with The Tower of Babel by Pieter Bruegel and many many more. You need there at least 2,5h or more if you are passionate about art.

We arrived early and went for coffee and cake before the crowds. It’s worth it as you sit in the dome section of the museum. We had hot chocolate, tea a strudel with cream and chocolate mousse cake. Wiener melange was half full. Not sure if it was in error.
The museum was good, we stayed about 3 hours. Very heavy on renaissance paintings, and teens ( and adults) were bored by the 12th version of Madonna and child. Really liked the works of Giuseppe Arcimboldo.
Was really impressed by the outstanding workmanship of the actual building than much of the art contained within.

We used the skip the line ticket to visit on a Sunday and glad we did. While we visited several art museums on this trip this was probably our favorite but definitely the most diverse and complete collection of art. Again some places may have more paintings but this has a entire floor of ancient art as well as collections of gold and silver designs and ivory figurines. The second floor contains some of the best paintings, Ruebens, the most Brueghels in one place, Titians, Rembrandts and even a Vermeer. The entire trip my daughter went to museums wanting to see a Vermeer and they had one. In addition, the architecture of the building was just as amazing and great for pictures. This is a Vienna MUST SEE, so go ahead and get your tickets before you go.

We literally got there when it opened and basically stayed until closing. Entering is a bit chaotic in the morning, as you’re elbowing all the tour groups also trying to get it, but if you have a ticket (we bought the KHM museum pass for €53), you can head in and go straight to the desk for an audio guide. Note there are parts of the museum that are very well air conditioned and other parts where it is incredibly hot. We ate lunch at the museum for convenience; not the most exciting options and we would call the food “fine”. There is SO MUCH art to see at this museum that you could not possibly listen to the entire audio guide in one day. We loved it!

It is usually closed on Mondays, but it was open in December. There was a ticket booth in front of the main entrance, and I was able to purchase a ticket face-to-face. Since I am over 65 years old, I asked for a senior ticket and was able to purchase the senior ticket for 18 euros without any questions.
After entering the museum, a Japanese audio guide was provided at a booth next to the stairs, where a friendly man gave me an explanation of the museum. One unit was 6 euros, but two units were 8 euros.
