- lucamartinwolfc0 contributionsA great day!My girlfriend and i had a wonderfull day with Michael. He was very calm and professional and seemed to have infinite facts about Austria and a true passion for hiking. He is also quite the photographer offering to take some pictures of me and my girlfriend (with our phone).Written April 8, 2023
- elizamarylane0 contributionsBreathtaking viewsI did the 4-hour private alpine hike tour with Michael. The views on this hike were breathtaking. Michael was very knowledgeable about the area and took every step to make the experience comfortable and safe. He was even able to tailor the hike to my interests. I loved seeing the castle, and then because we finished early, Michael took me on another short hike for more amazing views. It's definitely a highlight of my time in Austria.Written March 14, 2023
- Mark B0 contributionsPersonalized History Tour with a Scenic HikeI am a return customer, and I enjoyed a private hiking trip of several different historical sites around Hainburg in a customized tour. We visited the site of a Celtic fort, a Roman amphitheater, a medieval castle and soldier's keep, and a modern-day scenic viewing tower. From the modern tower, we could see the listening post where western spies observed the Soviets across the Iron Curtain. There was a scenic hike to reach each site, and on one path we saw mountain goats. On another path, we saw old World War 1 and WW-2 trenches. It was a fascinating journey through 2000 years of Austrian history. Michael is a very professional guide, fluent in English, and he made me feel comfortable throughout the hiking tour. I would highly recommend his services, and I would definitely book another future tour with him.Written December 13, 2022
- agibson120 contributionsExcellent hike with a wonderful guide! Our hiking trip with Michael was truly the highlight of our trip to Vienna! Michael was incredibly friendly and professional, and he went above and beyond to make a day hiking a great one. He chose the hike based on our timeline, and he chose perfectly! We really enjoyed exploring a castle and ruins that I'm sure we wouldn't have been able to find on our own. We highly recommend Michael as your hiking guide and hope to see him again on our next trip!Written January 20, 2022

He is a great guide and immediately was able to gauge our skill level and suggest a route that would fit us. In the end it was a great experience with just the right mix of great views and some challenging climbs. P.S.: We are not German speakers and Michael's English was really good.Written November 8, 2021
- andrewsI3600MW0 contributionsAmazing day in the mountains of AustriaI did a solo hike with Michael in August 2021. Michael was an amazing guide, with years of experience. He kept me constantly updated with weather information in the days leading up to the hike, so that we could choose the day with the best weather. He also gave me various options of routes that we could take according to my abilities. After a short drive out to Schneeberg, we started the hike. I was not sure what to expect as it looked like it was going to be very challenging. But with his experience, we kept a slow and steady pace meaning I didn't even feel the need to stop and catch my breath at any point. The views were amazing. I felt completely safe even through the challenging parts of the climb. Thankfully the clouds broke a bit at the summit to give us some amazing views and we had a great hot meal with a beer at the mountain hut at the top. All in all, it was a fantastic day that I would recommend to anyone and would do it again. Thank you Michael!Written August 26, 2021
- mrandmrswilson110 contributionsAwesome day outMichael was a fabulous guide and took us on an amazing route with breathtaking views. He helped us choose a tour that would suit us, and even picked us up and dropped us off in Vienna. He was really prompt replying to emails when we were organising and quick to send us the photos he had taken along the way afterwards. I can’t recommend his service enoughWritten February 20, 2020
- LivsTats0 contributions4- Hour Private Hiking tourThis private tour was truly incredible, and a great way to experience Austria and see some amazing views. Our tour guide was great and picked us up from our hotel and dropped us back after. He took us on a great trek and we even stopped for a drink in the mountains half way round. He was very professional and contacted us prior to the tour so we knew what to expect and what we needed to wear/bring. We thoroughly enjoyed this experience - would definitely recommend!Written February 13, 2020
- Mark B0 contributionsDurnstein castle, "Footsteps of Lionheart" hikeAbsolutely amazing tour, the highlight of my vacation. Michael is a very professional guide, spoke good English (always a concern for American travelers), and he provided extra items for comfort. He loaned some waterproof rainproof pants to me, as we were hiking on a rainy day and he did not want my jeans to soak through. He explained the history of the area and discussed local customs and politics while we hiked. He walked ahead of me on the forest path and even kicked sticks out of my way, so that I would not trip! He even took many photographs with me posing by the castles, and later sent them to me. This was a very personalized trip, and he varied our itinerary because of the weather. The heavy rain would have made some parts of the rocky trail slippery, so we used the time to instead drive to visit a second castle. It was honestly like traveling with a friend instead of a hired tour guide.Written November 11, 2019
- 488antoninab0 contributionsAmazing private overnight two-day hiking tour!Loved the hike Michael arranged for me! It couldn't be better! I liked the fact that Michael suggested an option for the hike after listening my wish list and considering my hiking abilities. I got everything I wanted and even more! Spending overnight in the hut on the top of the mountain and seeing amazing sunset and beautiful sunrise - that wasn't on my list but thanks to Michael for that wonderful idea! Also it was nice to work with him getting ready for the tour and after. Michael was responding quickly to all my emails, gave me detailed instructions what to have for the hike, was making pictures during the hike using his camera and sent them to me after. My flight got delayed and I arrived much later, so he picked me up straight from the airport and we got back into the schedule. Hike itself was going through gorgeous places and I'm very happy with Michael's suggestion on that. I would highly recommend take Wiener Wandern tour and you can expect a professional service. I had a truly amazing time in Austrian Alps!Written October 28, 2019
- johnbackstrom0 contributionsIncredible hikeOne of the best tours i have ever been to. Michael was the guide and he did a fantastic job. Along the hike he explained well the interesting history of Braunsberg mountain and Hainburg. The hiking route had stunning views, interesting paths and it was fairly easy to a beginner like myself. After the already great tour, we went for a extra hike to Hainburg castle. Overall it was an incredible hiking tour and experience that is all thanks to amazing guide.Written July 6, 2019
- kaitlinb1030 contributionsDay Hike Near ViennaMy day hike in the Alps near Vienna was wonderful! I am an experienced hiker and wanted to spend a day away from the city in nature enjoying the mountain views. Michael was very helpful via email prior to my visit; he answered all of my questions in a timely manner and was super receptive to my preferences. Everything went so smoothly from start to finish on the day of the hike. He arrived exactly on time, provided me with extra gear (poles, wind breaker pants) and guided me through the six/ seven hour hike. The hike was the perfect balance of information and relaxation. He provided me with interesting information about our surroundings and also allowed me to hike in silence so I could enjoy the nature. One of my favorite parts was resting at the top of the mountain; we enjoyed authentic Austrian soup and drinks from a hut and soaked in the views. As a solo traveller, I am also grateful that he was willing to take photographs. He provided me with the images via a link a couple of days after the hike; they are great! I would definitely recommend!Written June 12, 2019
- Salehurstau0 contributionsVienna WoodsMichael tailored the walk to suit my needs. Bad weather did not spoil the walk and I learnt a lot. Michael’s love for the woods was very evident and he readily shared information and insights. His photos sent to me later were an extra bonus. Thank you MichaelWritten June 2, 2019
- ArabianMouse10 contributionsMaximum AlpineWe thoroughly enjoyed our hike with Michael, who told us lots of history, information about the area and details of the nature and wildlife along the way. He’s clearly very knowledgeable and we were in very safe hands. The pace was just right and there were plenty of opportunities to stop and take photographs. Michael also kindly took pictures that he shared via Dropbox, which was a nice added extra. We wish we had stayed in Vienna longer to go on more tours as we would have loved to visit some caves!Written May 8, 2019

During the drive, Michael was patient while I practiced my German, which was nice for me. He meanwhile made sure to point out various landmarks, and knew the names and what they were for (castles, monasteries...).
When we got to the hike, it was more challenging than my friend expected, but Michael had a set of hiking poles that he was able to lend. There were lizards, rocks to climb on if you wanted to, and excellent views of the Danube. He also took lots of pictures, then sent a Dropbox link to get them, an added nice touch.
After the hike, Michael didn't have anything scheduled, so he also offered to take us on an added tour through a nearby castle. He then walked us through, translating signs and discussing some Austrian history. We got lucky with his schedule, so it likely wouldn't happen every time, but it really made things great. I'd do it again.
