- rsolsem0 contributionsWonderful for all agesOur family enjoyed our time in Haus der Musik. There was lots of information, lots of interaction - and we also loved the science behind sound portion of the museum. It was fun to learn more about the composers and I thought those rooms were very fun and immersive. So fun!Written September 13, 2024
- 981rajac0 contributionsInteractive and lovely, don’t miss out !Such a lovely and unique experience. We were unsure but so glad we visited ! Very interactive and amusing stations, conducting the Philharmonic was amazing. Walked out of there humming the symphonies :)Written August 11, 2024
- SallyG0070 contributionsInteraction and information. Fun for all the family.Really good interactive museum. Had so much fun starting with walking up the musical stairs and later virtually conducting the Vienna Philharmonic! For musical history buffs there was a section with a whole room devoted to each composer with a link to Vienna. My non-musical partner enjoyed it as much as I did.Written March 12, 2024
- PavlaPavla0 contributionsMusic could be really funThis museum was a big surprise for me. Absolutely amazingly presented theme of the music! At the entrance, there is a staircase, part of which is a keyboard, so when you walk up it, the individual keys make sounds. The museum is not only full of exhibits related to the greats of classical music, but there are also many interactive elements. The automaton will compose W.A. Mozart-style music for you based on your name. By rolling virtual dice, you "compose" your own waltz. You can try conducting the Vienna Philharmonic. You can even take home recipes of Ludwig van Beethoven's favorite dishes.Written December 30, 2023
- Janice M0 contributionsEducational visit wrapped up in fun!We were there on a quiet day and did not have to wait long for any of the interactive activities. The musical staircase was great, conducting the symphony well done but “writing” your own score took a bit of figuring out. You roll each of 4 dice 4 times until you get a check mark for each one. Then the activity will play your composition for you. It will be numbered and you have the option of purchasing the resultant sheet music before you leave. There was another opportunity to purchase the music you created a little later on. The displays were beautifully done and held the interest of young and old alikeWritten November 23, 2023
- Shardsman0 contributionsGreat place for children as well as adultsI have been in Vienna for four days and have been fighting huge crowds at every tourist attraction. Someone suggested that I go to The House of Music. This museum is conveniently located close to city center and is housed in an older building, but the interior is refurbished in very modern style. The displays are very interesting and show memorabilia of the Vienna Symphony and the maestros who led it. There are also individual displays of Austrian composers such as Haydn and Mozart. This is a great place to take children as there are many interactive educational displays.Written November 4, 2023
- adamathompson0 contributionsOne of the best museums we’ve been toWe were so impressed by Haus der Musik. It’s really well laid out with lots of interesting stuff there, and having so many interactive exhibits was brilliant. We came on a midweek morning and it wasn’t too busy through most of the rooms. The one place we expected to be packed (the conducting experience on the top floor) was actually empty so we managed to spend loads of time there and between us conducted all of the different song options - so much fun! Would 100% recommend as a must see in the city.Written April 17, 2023
- timj1011010 contributionsOrchestral HistoryThe Haus der Musik focuses mainly on the city Orchestra and its various composers. There are many interesting facts displayed alongside historic items as well as many interactive activities for the kids.Written October 28, 2022
- timsimmk0 contributionsExcellentThe Haus der Musik is well worth a visit. It is not a big museum but should definitely be on your itinerary if you visit Vienna. Vienna has a rich music history which is well exhibited in this museum. The museum also has interactive exhibits about the physics of sound and perception. The highlight for me was the virtual orchestra where you can have a virtual go at conducting the Vienna Philharmonic.Written August 29, 2022
- Fra S0 contributionsA worthy visitDefinitely a visit to include in your plan, if you like music. Well adapted also to kids and teenagers, thanks to the high interactivity, especially on the second floor, devoted to the physics of sound. The third floor is a bit more knowledge based, with the life and works of several great composers. Finally, in the last floor you can (try to) conduct the orchestra, not easy at all, but fun guaranteed.Written July 23, 2022
- אורלי ט0 contributionsLovely activity4 flights full of knowledge and activities all about music. Lovely museum and especially enjoyable for children. Not far from the center and open till 22:00 at night!Written January 7, 2022

- MarkV36790 contributionsEvening concert not worth it’s moneyI went to an evening concert here. I bought a ticket of 42 euros, expecting a concert in a beautiful room like you expect if you pay that amount. Instead we sat on wooden chairs in a simple room. The musicians were quite young (except for the male singer), and though they were adequate they didn’t sound like more experienced musicians.Written August 2, 2021
- gaiteiro0 contributionsGood interactive museumVisited with my son, who is a university music student. The lower of the two floors is devoted to the physics of sound and music, with loads of interactive stations, and also has a section about the history of the Vienna Philharmonic. The upper floor is less interactive, being mainly devoted to the history of the famous composers who called Vienna their home, including Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mahler. There is also an interactive conducting room, where you can try to conduct the Vienna PhilharmonicWritten March 3, 2020
- margaretc0070 contributionsDisappointingI found this small "museum" somewhat disappointing. The kiddies seem to enjoy it more, engaging with the interactive displays on the lower floors. The third floor has three rooms for composers: one each for Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. They were somewhat sketchy biographies given about each composer. Not much depth, I must say.Written February 29, 2020

We visited today and were surprised by the number of people with young (5 and under) children. It is not a ‘hands-on’ place with only a few items to ‘touch’, there are headphones for listening and requires a considerable amount of reading. Consequently, younger kids were not interested and resorted to running around instead. The content is also only classical Viennese composers, and a quite technical section on the ‘physics’ of sound.

Dear Janinaeats,
thank you for taking the time to write a review about your visit at the Haus der Musik. Actually we do have a lot of groups of children visiting the museum, mostly they start at Kindergarten-Age and continue when they are in school and have a specific guided tour for their age. They all enjoy their first steps into the World of Classical music, jump on the Piano-Stairs, play the Waltz Dice Game and learn about Mozart, for example. For families we offer a "Family Booklet" or a free special Family App where the are guided through the museum in an age appropriate way with riddles, games and stories. Also we have family tours at the weekends. I'm sorry if you didn't get the information at the entrance counter that we have all these offers for our youngest visitors when you were here with your family.
In any way, thank your for your visit and sharing your impressions.

The museum is interactive, tells the history of the main musicians, as well as interesting information about music and sound. Worth the visit. We went after 8pm and only paid 8 euros per person. It took us just over 1 hour to get to know it.

A must visit place in Vienna. It offers an interactive cultural experience entertaining enough for any age. Everyone should take an hour or two to explore this museum and learn something about music and sound in general, but about the famous Austrian classical composers, their lives, and musical achievements.

My wife and I are singers and musicians. We've enjoyed music and its intricacies for several decades, so this was a must see. What a great way to develop music appreciation! The interactive parts were fun, especially for children. Even the more mature audience can learn a thing or two about sound. I enjoyed the. historic parts of the museum, especially its focus on Vienna and its significant role in the music world.

This museum is easy to find and reasonably priced.
It has 4 floors with different exhibits such as the life of famous composers, hearing & sound interactive stands and a virtual conductor idea where you use a AI baton to conduct a Philharmonic Orchestra.
Oh and don't forget to play a tune on the musical staircase...which is basically a piano layed out on the staircase to make a tune

Wrapped up our second day in Vienna at the Haus Der Musik. Having read about it in advance, we were prepared to have fun stepping on the piano staircase, playing the waltz dice game, testing the physics of sound and being a virtual conductor. We were very grateful for the help from the children guests - they taught us how to play the virtual dice for the waltz game and the virtual conductor - all without us speaking German and the children not speaking English.

We were only in Vienna for a few days and we chose this museum out of all of the others. We are glad we did! I had read that this is "small" Museum that will take a few hours, but my husband and I both felt you could easily spend 4-5 hours here. The museum holds a mix of the history of the five superstar classical composers (each having their own biographical room. You could easily spend over an hour in each room because the rooms are dense with text in addition to having technology exhibits which tell their stories in more detail. In addition to the focus of composers, there is a floor dedicated the the history of the Vienna orchestra, and this included time during the great war. The museum also housed a good chunk of information dedicated to the science of music and sound, and these spaces were more tactile and experiential - really fun! While my husband is less of a music lover compared to me, we equally enjoyed the experience if you enjoy history and have a good interest in reading in general. We did not get to read everything during our 3 hours there, and both of us agreed we could go back easily.

Really cool exhibitions. About the science of sound, lives of composers, etc. There was an exhibition with VR about “producing your own sound”, but I dont really see the point of it. Children were excited at first with the VR, but they cant seem to see the point of it. They became bored and left this exhibit quickly. The part with composers contained too much information for us to take in. It would have been better if they categorize it into sections so it is easier to follow (Good examples would be Mozarthaus and Beethoven Museum). Top floor has an exhibit which lets you be a conductor, which is very cool, I like it very much. Very fun if you have friends to play about. The VR Beethoven game is only in German. I know a bit German just enough to know what is going on. Apparently you are helping Beethoven win a rap battle against some random young man. I dont see why beethoven needs to be involved in such event as his life or his works are not involved in the game at all, and such a game does not need a VR to be played since you are just clicking options of disses Beethoven should use in his next round. I got bored and left very soon. In the ground floor there was a public piano, you could play for free if you want. I gathered up my courage and played some pieces that I barely remembered from my younger days. I was surprised that some people watched and liked it. You could try if you know how to play the piano. It would be a bucket-list kind of experience: “performing music in Vienna”. Good luck haha ;)

We choose this specifically because of the interactivity and fun-looking installations/exhibits and it did not disappoint. Neither of us are huge classical music fans, but the experience is a fantastic look through the history of great Viennense composers through to the the modern Philharmonic. The museum is go at your own pace, which is great because some exhibits/interactions can take some time and a line may form, but there is always something nearby you can engage with to pass time until your turn.
I think my favorite part is being able to "conduct" the Vienna Philharmonic with a baton and have them play to your tempo - whether correct or not. Conducting the CanCan a bit too fast defintely made me feel like Bugs Bunny.
