- Bethbridge8190 contributionsHighly RecommendThis was a really great tour! Personally I would have loved even MORE Sound of Music stops, but I understand that it would have taken up too much of our Salzburg exploration time. Bascialy I need to come back and stay in Salzburg because it's gorgeous and there's so much to see. Loved our guide Joseph and our pretty drive with stops along the lakes. The van was very comfortable with big windows, so you have a view no matter where you sit. Loved this small group experience!Written January 8, 2025
- Buddy8440 contributionsLisa fantastic guideSuper fun and engaging tour! Lisa was a fantastic guide, leading an amazing tour and sharing plenty of great tips for Vienna. She was very kind and helpful!Written January 7, 2025
- 190bethm0 contributionsPowerfulThis was a powerful trip that will stay with me for a long time. Both the tour guide on the bus on the way to Mauthausen and the guide at Mauthausen were extremely knowledgable. The stop at the Quarry, while short, was one of the highlights of the trip. A definite must for your trip to Austria.Written January 2, 2025
- Nerr N0 contributionsGreat journey! The road to Salzburg, the views, and the stops along the way were as much an experience if not more than Salzburg itself. Robert, the guide was great and very knowledgeable. Definitely recommend!Written December 28, 2024
- 12aileend0 contributionsWonderful day trip to Salzburg!!Yosef was an amazing driver and guide!! So friendly and full of information!! He gave us enough stops to eat and use the toilet on the way to Salzburg and back to Vienna. He stopped at beautiful spots to take pictures by the lake and was very helpful on our guided tour in Salzburg!! We got plenty of free time to get lunch and shop and visit other points of interest!! I would definitely recommend this day trip to Salzburg from Vienna with this tour company!!Written December 26, 2024
- LoveTravel18470000 contributionsBreathtaking scenic viewsOur guide Wolfgang was fantastic. Full of stories and bits of every day facts that only Austrians would know. He was engaging and answered all our questions. We only had 7 people in our group so it was a nice size. Several short stops along the way. The lakes we saw were all beautiful and broke up the 3 hour ride. Salzburg was well worth the drive. It gives you a perspective of what the rest of Austria is like outside of Vienna. Looking at the Alps along the way was so peaceful. Salzburg on Saturday was incredibly crowded with both tourists and locals due to the. Christkindlmarkt. Beautiful city and only wish we had more time to wander. It was a long day but worth every minute. If you’re a Sound of Music fan, you will see some spots.Written December 14, 2024
- Lainie0070 contributionsGreat tour with a great guideThis was a great tour thanks to Robert, the driver and guide. He was friendly, knowledgeable and full of facts about Mozart, The Sound of Music, and all the sites we passed/stopped at.Written December 8, 2024
- Curious473095823900 contributionsMagical at Christmas! What an amazing day to see such a beautiful town. This was a great overview of the city, Mozart facts, Sound of Music points of interest, and the magical Christmas markets! This was well worth my money and time.Written December 5, 2024
- OferShel0 contributionsExcellent tourExcellent trip to lake area & Salzburg. Guide was very knowledgeable and shared lots of information and stories. During first stop we were given some time to walk around the town and see the famous church- we chose to walk to the lake and took beautiful photos. Second stop at lake area also given some time to walk and take photos. In Salzburg given a detailed tour by our guide and then given free time for lunch, shopping or museums. Highly recommend.Written November 29, 2024
- Marf136690 contributionsThis palace rivals Versailles and Fontainebleau.Schoenbrunn Palace was the main summer residence of the Hapsburgs. The name means "beautiful spring". The 1,441 room Baroque palace is one of the most important architectural, cultural, and historic monuments in the country. The history of the palace and its vast gardens spans over 300 years, reflecting the changing tastes, interests, and aspirations of successive Hapsburg monarchs. Pictured here is the Palace, the gardens, the Hall of Mirrors, the Gloriette designed by Maria Teresa.Written November 19, 2024
- 702essis0 contributionsAmazing Day Trip with A+ guideThis was an amazing day trip, which was well-managed, extremely enjoyable with stops in Austria's lake country along the way and altogether a worthwhile experience that is a must-do in a visit to Vienna. Our guide, Josef, was a pleasure to travel with and talk to. He was ready at the designated meeting spot well ahead of us, and had the vehicle ready. The vehicle was a Mercedes Benz Van which was very clean and in great condition. Throughout the trip, Josef was great at providing very helpful tips and explanations in his great English. Along the way, we made several stops at lakes and interesting spots, some locations of the "Sound of Music". In Salzburg, we had a mix of a guided tour by Josef as well as free time to ourselves to spend on things we enjoyed. We followed a restaurant recommendation from Josef and loved it. Josef was great at managing time and got us back to Vienna exactly at the time advertised in the tour. We have to commend his excellent time-management skills. We would highly recommend this tour and were very very happy we booked it.Written November 14, 2024
- L9202WDelizabethk0 contributionsSuch a great one day trip - highly recommend! After several days in Vienna, I wanted to get out of the city center to explore more of Austria. I stumbled upon this trip and absolutely loved it!! Wolfgang was our guide and he was so great - a very safe and careful driver, incredibly knowledgeable and kind. Our group was a very small group of four, but it was the perfect size to move from place to place. The lake region is BEAUTIFUL in Austria. Every stop was picturesque and the town of Salzburg was delightful. It's a cute, quaint and charming town with so much history. The only piece of advice I have is that once the walking tour is over you don't have too much time in Salzburg so I recommend mentally bookmarking all the places you want to go during your break. Otherwise, great 1 day trip!Written November 12, 2024

Such a fun day trip from Vienna! Easy 2.5 hour drive. Our driver Wolfgang was great with a very comfortable Mercedes Van for 4 adults. Our guide in Budapest Anita was fantastic as well. Her tour showed her knowledge and passion for the history of Hungary and Budapest. Highly recommend!!

We had a great time on our private tour to Budapest. This was a family trip (all adults), it was the first time our father travelled to Europe and this tour did not disappoint. Our driver Markus was on time picking us up from our hotel. He was very friendly. The van was very comfortable (it even had iPads on the back of the seats), we have wifi service, Markus offered us water for the ride and pointed out interesting facts during our ride from Vienna to Budapest.
When we arrived to Budapest we met up with Anita our Budapest tour guide. Anita, was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The way she explained details was not only easy to understand but enjoyable. Both Markus and Anita showed personal interest about us and made our day great!.
The tour was at a comfortable pace, it did not feel rush and you are practically driven all over the most important parts in Budapest. There is also time to explore the cites walking. At the end of Anita's guided tour there was plenty of time to have lunch and some shopping. We had a great time with Anita!
On our drive back to Vienna, again Markus was very pleasant and once we got to our hotel in Vienna, he even offered to drive us somewhere in the city if we need it to. However, we were already kind of tired by this time :-) but it was very much appreciated.
I usually don't have high expectations on anything I book because I would rather be pleasantly surprised than being disappointed, but in this case we all were pleasantly surprised with the way we were treated in a friendly and professional manner and that the tour was so interesting and we learned so much that we want to go back! Perhaps a day tour to Salzburg! :-)
Thank you A la Carte for organizing tours like this and thank you to Markus and Anita for a great time!.

While staying in Vienna, we took a private day trip to Budapest through Viator Tours that hooked us up with Vienna A La Carte. Ton, our driver, promptly picked us up at the hotel, and drove us around Budapest, while Anna, who is from Budapest, was our personal tour guide. We had a delightful time with no worries. Anna shares her knowledge of Budapest with passion and insight. We learned so much and at all times, their consideration for our needs and interests was evident. We ate authentic Hungarian goulash and it was delicious! I would encourage anyone who wants personal guides and transportation for a delightful day in Budapest to book this tour!

My husband and I booked private tours of Vienna, Salzburg, Prague and Budapest through Vienna ala carte.
Clean vehicles, punctual, with great tour drivers and guides.
I would specifically mention Tom who drove us to Salzburg, Prague and Budapest. Well maintained car, telling us small interesting stories during travel, organizing a detour to show us some jaw dropping scenery, Tom is a yardstick for any professionally driver ever. He knew more about the places than the guides, who, I must say were also very good, barring the lady in Salzburg, I would recommend Vienna ala carte, especially Tom to anyone planning a private tour of vienna, Prague and Budapest.

We had a memorable trip to Budapest this summer 2019. Our van came on time. The driver and the guide were very courteous, informative, and very accommodating. When we got to Budapest the local guide took over. She was very informative too, just a bit hurried because the walking tour was under time constraint. It was a good thing we were wearing comfortable walking shoes and we had water because it was very hot that day. The best part of our tour was when Markus our guide took us as close to the Parliament Building as possible. Without doing this, we would not have seen the Parliament building up close and we would have missed the Danube promenade commemorating the shooting of the Jews by the Cross Nazis while they were made to leave their shoes by the bank of the Danube river before they fell into the water. You can see the steel replica of the shoes glued onto the pavement. It was a really great trip.
