- jack_b100Very Fun TourBrigitte was a wonderful guide. Because we were only in town for a short time, she customized our tour to see many hidden gems along with some of the more traditional sights. She was very knowledgeable and had a very engaging personality. All of us had fun!
- Nancy58_1300Fantastic Walking Tour!Despite the rainy weather, we had a fabulous morning tour of Vienna with Walter! He is a wealth of information, and my group thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Highly recommend! We covered a lot of ground and had a wonderful overview of Vienna thanks to Walter. Many thanks!
- vernonb71000A tour not to be missedA wonderful walk through history with Briggette. She was so knowledgeable and fun to tour with city with. I learned so much and enjoyed the experience so much.
- N8085RTdennisc00Walter is great!Walter was great! Fantastic tour. His command of Prague history through current events was very well conveyed. Perfect!
- V8883PHleslies00Very experienced guide, with lots of stories and humorWalter was great. He knew so much history and gave commentary and anecdotes, particularly on 20th century history, as we walked around the inner city in Vienna. He was also happy to answer all of our questions very frankly. It was interesting to hear a different perspective on some current world events than we tend to get in the US. A reminder that things are never black and white, only complicated and shades of gray/grey.
- dwday100Hidden Gems aptly namedSabine gave our small group of for an unforgettable experience. She moved at our pace and took us to areas of Vienna not frequented by the big tours. Really we’re hidden gems. What a great time. Thanks Sabine!!!
- ValentinaV152400Book it!Bridgitte was a wonderful and knowledgeable guide! I loved hanging out with her during this tour. She is super friendly and made sure that she showed me things that I expressed interest in. She also gave me suggestions for other things to do during my stay and how to get to those attractions. I HIGHLY recommend this tour!
- Olga E00Great tour!We had a truly unforgettable experience with Bridgette. She catered the tour based on our interests and made the entire trip very engaging and fun. I’m looking forward to coming back to Vienna and exploring more with her help. Thank you, Bridgette!
- Godwins0010/10 City Guide in ViennaWalter was a phenomenal guide. He is friendly, knowledgeable and an all around top notch city guide that will cater to your interests and age group. Vielen danke, Walter! Bis bald.
- pandml202300Disturbing behavior from a tour guideMy husband and I took the tour titled "Vienna at First Glance: a Private Walking Tour". Our guide was Walter. Many of Walter's behaviors and comments throughout the morning were both disturbing: sexual, sexist, degrading to women, rude, and in two cases, racist. Walter's behaviors caused us to be extremely uncomfortable; ruining the day. Walter's first comment when finding out how long we were staying inVienna was, "What? Are you too lazy to travel?" We were very taken aback by his rude comment but we were excited to see the city and take the tour. As we walked, Walter inappropriately commented on the recent influx of Ukrainian women to Vienna, He chuckled, "These Ukrainian women are the kind of immigrants we want! Long legs, blonde, boobs". As we went on many things prompted sexual comments from Walter. All historic statues of naked or partially naked women caused him to discuss breasts, "boobs", and vaginas. He appeared to take pleasure in using the word vagina and waiting to see my reaction. At the Belvedere Palace, in the expansive garden, there are many statues of half lions/ half women. Walter talked at length about the statue's bare "boobs" and suggested I have my photo taken while holding one. At two different points Walter made very negative comments about the Chinese tourists, This was totally inappropriate and racist. At one point two young teenage girls stopped us and asked Walter to take their photo for them. His exact words were, "Sure, but you really have to pose sexy for me. Boobs out. That's it, push those shoulders back!" This was immediately followed by two other young women in their twenties who asked, "Can you take our picture, too?" Walter's exact words were, "okay but you'll. have to strip for me!" The girls and women were highly embarrassed and confused. There were countless other comments throughout the morning. As it got worse, we tried to distance ourselves from his comments. I walked away often. I believe Walter knew I was extremely uncomfortable and that my husband was highly embarrassed by his comments. I also believe Walter was enjoying the effect he was having and getting a kick out of the shock factor. He always smirked at his own comments. Perhaps the worst of Walter's comments (other than asking the two young women to strip) came in the Church of the Minorites (Minoritenkirche) where there is a large replica done in mosaic of The Last Supper painting. By this point Walter knew we were absolutely uncomfortable by his ongoing, creepy, sexual fixation. And yet he went on with sexualizing the masterpiece at great length. Walter showed no respect for the religious treasure or its subject matter. He did not know our religious background or our commitment to, and our respect for, our faith. After many comments about Mary Magdalene's sexual relationship with Jesus, Walter again fixated on vaginas. He pulled out his phone and showed us a photo of an ancient relic of a vagina: an absolutely, totally creepy, appalling thing for a tour guide to display by any stretch of the imagination, but worsened by the fact we were in a church, looking at Jesus and the Last Supper! He went on to explain what he sees as truth (mostly taken from the fictional movie The DaVinci Code): that it is Mary Magdalene in the painting to the right of Jesus., not St. John. Walter's proof was absolutely disgusting. He said, "The open space between Jesus and John/Mary forms a large V. And the V is obviously meaning vagina". This tour was a disaster for us. What could have been wonderful memories were ruined. Once home, I reread the online reviews for this tour. Other tour guides doing this tour have wonderful reviews, and yes, Walter has some good reviews too. He has a great amount of historical knowledge. It is troubling that there was one other review of Walter's tour that does indeed mention his inappropriate sexual comments. Walter does not represent the beautiful city of Vienna or its beautiful people with any respect. Unfortunately, I believe he may be the owner of the company.
- jessica l00Amazing and flexible tour built for youWe just got back from vacationing this summer, and had an amazing time while in Vienna with the Hidden Gems tour. My husband and I were in Vienna for a quick 2 day trip and we had never been. We decided to do a private tour since we didn't have much time and it was well worth it. Brigette was our tour guide and since we had not visited Vienna before, she modified our tour so we could touch on some most important aspects of Vienna while also including many hidden, more intimate gems. It was like walking around the city with a knowledgable family member which was perfect. Brigitte really knows the history of the city so well, and kept things engaging! If we visit again, we will definitely plan to reach out to Brigette. She does a wonderful job making Vienna accessible. We were thrilled to have her guidance and this was a highlight of our time in Vienna. Five stars!
- natcad6100Gem of a Tour!Walter was a wonderful guide. So knowledgeable, we appreciated so much more of every site/statute/building we visited as he pointed out details that we would have missed on our own! Covered a lot of ground and enjoyed every minute. I highly recommend this tour
- Ellie B00Great private tourWe had a wonderful private tour with Brigette exploring the magnificent city of Vienna. She especially custom made the tour to enhance our first time experience of visiting Vienna. She also gave us great restaurant recommendations and made a reservation for us at one of the must eat restaurants. We utterly enjoyed her company, and appreciated her sharing her knowledge on architecture, art, history and also her passion for Vienna. It was a great 3 hours spend on our first day to get a great sense and overview of what to explore in the city. Highly recommend this tour!
- Don Z00This was a true GEMAndrea was our guide and she was EXCEPTIONAL. Our group of 6 did this on our 1st full day. She met us at our hotel. In addition to the tour, she showed us how easy it was to navigate the public transportation system which made our remaining days easier. She is very proud of Vienna and it came through in her tour. Highly recommend
- Jackie Z00DelightfulAndrea was a superb guide highlighting Vienna. Explained lots of Austrian history. Gave us options for eating and drinking on our own. Explained how to use the public transportation. It was very delightful to spend 3 hours with her.

Over the last several years, our family has learned that a fantastic private guide can unlock a great city in wonderful ways and is a travel indulgence that dramatically enhances the experience. Walter Schindl has certainly entered the list of the top guides that we have been privileged to enjoy anywhere in the world.
In addition to being a vault of knowledge about Vienna’s history (and European/World history in general), his dry sense of humor fit very nicely with our family. We ended up using him for two separate half days...one inside the inner ring and the other outside of it.
Book Walter well in advance as he (not surprisingly) is often reserved several months out. We could not have been happier with him and will absolutely hire him again when we return to Vienna.

We enjoyed a memorable morning taking the Vienna Highlights tour. Walter is very knowledgeable and amusing making the tour informative and fun. We managed to see so much in a short space of time and would never have found our way to all of the major sites or encountered hidden gems in the city without such a good guide. Walter also tailored the tour to include things that were of special interest. This is a stress free way to see as much as possible in one morning, allowing us to plan the rest of our sightseeing at leisure. I am very happy to recommend this tour.

I had really high expectations for the this tour, but it left me with much more to be desired. The guide came across as a bit rude and or unyielding at times. I had a tour in Berlin, Prague and Vienna. The one in Vienna was my least favorite. For what I paid, I was expecting a better tour. I feel like most of the places we went I could have gone by myself for a fraction of the price. The information provided during the tour wasn't really that interesting.

Our group of six had a fabulous morning with Walter. His knowledge of the city and its history was second to none. From a very interesting visit to the Military Museum (a must if you are interested in the history of Austria) to a private viewing of the wonderful cakes on display at Demel's - we did it all. Highly recommended. Thank you Walter for making our visit so informative and enjoyable.

I will be traveling with 2 children ages 9 and 6. Can something special, like a cake tour, be included for their amusement?

He can definitely lead a visit to some of Vienna’s favorite bakeries and cafes. Just reach out to him and ask.
