So much fun getting out of the City and exploring a couple of beautiful, small towns in Wachau Valley. The bikes were easy and a great way to get around. Wine tastings and lunch were fantastic. - globalALS0 contributionsProfessional, Well-Organized, and Relaxing Day out of the CityOn balance, this was an excellent tour: well-organized, well-explained by the guide (Marco), and full of amazing wine, architecture, and food. Directions to the pick-up spot were easy to follow, and Marco was there to greet us on arrival. We traveled in a group of eight (plus Marco), in a very comfortable Mercedes passenger van. (Note: it was very warm when we visited Vienna, but Marco was incredible in keeping the van very cool and inviting throughout the day.) During our drive (approximately 1 hour from Vienna), Marco explained a lot to us (using an excellent microphone and speaker so that everyone could hear), about the wine region, the history, and how the varietals had subtle differences. The two wineries we visited were picturesque, inviting, and INSTAGRAMable. Marco was great in his explanations of each wine, eliciting our comments, and answering any questions we had along the way. For lunch, Marco took us to a traditional "heuriger": essentially a wine restaurant with picnic-style lunch. Most of the people surrounding us were locals or Austrians on holiday. It was a wonderful way to experience Austrian culture outside of Vienna, and sample more wines (and traditional cuisine). My wife is a vegetarian, and even she was able to find delicious choices on the menu. After lunch, we took a beautiful cruise along the Danube for approximately one hour. It was pleasant, relaxing, and an opportunity to enjoy some sites outside of Vienna in a very chill atmosphere. The boat had indoor and outdoor tables, with A/C, and a full menu (in case anyone was still hungry after lunch!) At the conclusion of the boat ride, Marco met us and drove home, but made quick reference to the Melk Abbey. (Note: the fine print of the tour mentions this but I didn't pay attention to it until we got there. The tour of Melk Abbey only takes place in the winter months. I'm not sure why, but the Abbey tour is not part of the summer experience.) We returned to Vienna approximately 9 hours after our original departure, and had a pleasant experience. Again, Marco was an awesome, personable tour guide and driver, and I would recommend this tour to anyone who is looking for an outside-of-Vienna experience for a day trip, who enjoys dry white wines.Written August 12, 2024

- faridz6460 contributionsExcelllent experienceWe joined the group in Krems. Very friendly staff. Due to our scheduling conflict we couldn't make the tour for the day we had booked. Staff at Vienna Explorer were able to change our tour to next day with no issues. Wineries we visited had excellent wines. Our tour guide Thomas was friendly and accomodating. Didnt feel like we were pushed to get from one place to another. Momo at Krems office was very nice and welcoming. Didnt have any issues with bikes we rented. On a hot day I'd rent an ebike. Saves energy. Overall good experince. I would go back to them again.Written July 18, 2024
- James L0 contributionsBeautiful day cyclingGreat day cycling around the valley. The guide (Tim) was excellent, very knowledgeable about the area and the wines. The bikes were very good. There was a good balance of cycling, stopping at wineries (we stopped at two), and a wander around a lovely little village as part of lunch break. Lunch was at a local village restaurant and was perfect. Highly recommendWritten July 12, 2024

We absolutely loved this tour! We had spent a lot of time in several cities, so it was so great to get out into the country and especially the wine region of Austria. Our guide was Tim and he was so knowledgeable and great tour guide. We were there in Nov so we did not get to do the river cruise, but were able to visit the Monastery, which was interesting and had beautiful views of the valley and town below. The wines we were able to drink were some of the best in the region. If you are a wine nerd like us or just interested in learning more about wine, Tim and the local wineries we went to shared so much and it was so interesting to learn more about this wine region. Highly recommend this tour! Thank you Tim for being a great guide!

My husband and I really enjoyed our electric bike tour in June 2022 with our tour guide, Paulo. We had a private tour that lasted about 5 hours. It was a little longer than we expected but being on electric bikes made it easier and very enjoyable. It was a great experience and way to see many parts of Vienna which would not be accessible by foot because it would take far too long. Paulo was very nice and informative, and offered a lot of stories and history about the city. We really enjoyed his company and would highly recommend his tour!

Camilo was our host and was SO knowledgeable and friendly. This trip was a great balance of free time to explore and group timed segments. I also appreciated that it was a small group (only 8 people, plus our guide) which made it less hectic. It was a great day trip from Vienna. I would definitely recommend this trip!

We were 6 passengers in an 8 seat minivan, on our Hidden Wachau Valley tour with Vienna Explorer. Our guide was Marco. The tour was great fun. We visited 2 wineries, had lunch at a Heurigen (Austrian wine tavern), and took an hour boat ride on the Danube. Marco was a fine guide, and he knew all the vintners personally, which made for an enjoyable tour.

The wine valley is beautiful. The winemakers we visited were nice but not special and not representative of the best wines we have tried in Austria. These are the commercial producers and the wine tasting rooms are neither beautiful or extraordinary. We very much enjoyed our guide, Marco, an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide, with extraordinary English.

We explored the Wachau valley with Thomas. He graciously guided us through the wineries and to a great restaurant in St. Michael. He was exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. We were also able to explore Durnstein old town. Every element was exceptional. Thank you Thomas for great day in Austria.

Is the river cruise part of this tour operating during covid? We plan on being there August 28, 2021.
Written August 9, 2021
Hi, I am planning to join the tour around the end November. Does the tour is open during winter season?
Written October 20, 2019
I was told it runs a very limited basis and with no river cruise.
Written October 20, 2019
I want to join the tour on a Sunday, and I'm worried that the Heuriger places might be closed on Sundays. So my question is, do you also visit Heurigers and do wine tastings on sunday tours??
Written September 10, 2019
If the tour takes place on a Sunday then I think everything would be open. I do know the boat ride down the Danube ends sometime in September. You may want to find out when. It was included in the tour.
Written September 10, 2019
The date I want is sold out. Can I be on a waiting list in case someone cancels?
Written August 15, 2019
Sorry I have no idea - I had booked the tour before we had left home a few weeks before hand
Written August 15, 2019
Are kids allowed on this tour? We are a group of 4 adults and 3 kids (age 5,7 and 8).
Written July 20, 2019
There weren't any kids in our tour group, either. I don't recall seeing kids at the wineries, but there were some on the ferry boat and at Melk Abbey.
Written July 21, 2019
No biking on this tour. Vienna Exporer does offer tours that include biking.
Written June 24, 2019
Do they serve wine on the boat on the Danube? I like wine! :)
Written June 13, 2019
They leave you to take a public ferry. They do serve wine, but you need to buy each glass. The prices are similar to restaurants. They did have some really good local white wines on board!
Written June 14, 2019
Is there biking involved in this tour? Also, how much wine will be tasted?
Written June 5, 2019
There was no biking. There were 8 very small samples of wine. I’d estimate that it added up to around 1.5 glasses for the whole day
Written June 5, 2019
My husband and I will be on a Viking Boat and would love to take a tour of your winery on Sunday April 28, 2019.....is there a way to do this? Is there transportation from the boat to your winery? We would love to take a tour and have lunch...is this possible? what would price be?
Written April 16, 2019
My friend and I took the tour last September. We visited two wineries for tastings and a winery for lunch. The tour ended with a river cruise to Melk. The tour leaves from the company's office where you check-in and meet your drive/guide for the day.
