About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Jennifer C0 contributionsFantastic tour and guide! Michael was knowledgeable, engaging and witty. We had such a great time and highly recommend!Michael, our guide, welcomed us warmly into our first day in Salzburg. He gave an in-depth experience of Salzburg, Hallstatt, the surrounding area and local architecture, as well as interesting historical facts. He was very a great source of ideas for sightseeing, points of interest, as well as outdoor activities. He was wonderful and we felt like family!Written February 9, 2025
- mamanoo030 contributionsFascinating information and stunning scenery.Carlos was a fantastic tour guide! He’s extremely knowledgeable and is clearly a fan of The Sound of Music and loves Salzburg. We had an intimate tour for the three of us and I would highly recommend it. Not only did we enjoy the main highlights, but Carlos was able to drive us up to the hills to explore extra hidden gems, like the Sound of Music picnic spot up in the hills. It was obviously different scenery at times covered in snow, but Carlos had clips from the movie to show how each place was exactly the same place, as well as explaining some filming trickery. Carlos is entertaining, knowledgeable, friendly and provided an incredible experience.Written January 11, 2025

- a27120 contributionsDon’t expect the driver to be your guideView was amazing but the our guide/driver was quite quiet so he didn’t share that much information during the drive, and when he did he was so soft that only the one at the passenger seat could hear him. In Hallstatt he also just dropped us off for 2 hours, but I guess there was no parking so he had to deal with that.Written January 4, 2025
- karaa5770 contributionsExcellent experience, highly recommend!Such a wonderful experience! We absolutely loved exploring the area with Michael as our guide and driver. He was knowledgeable and entertaining. He also made sure to take us to all the best spots for photos and sound of music filming locations, and he was happy to take pictures for us. The experience was well worth the price! We highly recommend this tour and Michael in particular! -The Andersons from SacramentoWritten December 26, 2024
- 70saritac0 contributionsBreathtaking sights with history and lore to back it!This was the most incredible tour to see some of the most amazing places but the best part was Michael! He had such vast knowledge of the areas we hit on the tour and was able to provide unique insights on the culture, history, and lore behind it all. He accommodated every request we had and more! He also had key insights to when attractions would be busy to help us plan accordingly. Michael even went as far as to return my scarf I had left in the vehicle to Munich! He went above and beyond to say the least and really made our stay in Salzburg and our tour special.Written December 21, 2024
- Sherpa180867685140 contributionsMassive fun packed dayThe views were lovely and Michael was a very friendly and accommodating guide. He made sure to give in-depth explanations about the places we went past and visited and he was very cheerful! If i could give 6 stars i would. If you’re in the area you should definitely get this tour.🙏🙏🙏Written December 16, 2024
- Wanderer143638319490 contributionsA Dream Tour, Rain or Shine! My aunt and I had the most wonderful private tour visiting The Sound of Music filming sites and Hallstatt! Despite the less-than-perfect weather, our guide Michael ensured the day was nothing short of magical. Michael’s knowledge about the filming locations was incredible, and his enthusiasm brought the movie scenes to life. He shared fascinating behind-the-scenes stories and even pointed out little-known details we would have otherwise missed. He made us feel like family, which added such a personal touch to the experience. A highlight was our food stop, where Michael went above and beyond to accommodate my vegan diet—a small detail that made a big difference! Hallstatt was breathtaking, even in the rain, and we loved how Michael tailored the tour to our interests, giving us plenty of time to soak in the sights. This was one of the best tours I’ve ever taken, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Thank you, Michael, for making our day so special!Written December 6, 2024
- Voyage250749654210 contributionsHallstatt private tourMichael Toth with Salzburg Private Tours was absolutely AMAZING! He was incredibly knowledgeable and so very kind. He answered all of our questions and shared so many great details. You can tell he loves meeting new people and sharing the history of the region. Despite snowy weather this morning making it hard to see the lakes he helped make things enjoyable. He even gave us recommendations for dinner in Salzburg which were fantastic! Would love to tour with Michael again!Written November 20, 2024
- L1008EQjonathanl0 contributionsThe Happiest Tour In All The World! A Must for Sound of Music fans!I was quite pleased with the courtesy and flexibility Carlos granted me throughout this epic "Sound of Music" tour in Salzburg and environs. Carlos picked me up at my hotel on time and expertly guided me from Nonnberg Abbey until the finale at the Mirabell Gardens. The highlights were taking me to Marketshellenberg, Mehlweg; Rossfeld, Werfen; a stop by Mondsee where Maria and children rode bikes as featured in Do-Re-Mi; Mondsee Cathedral, etc. A full 8 hour tour made me The Happiest Man In All the World! You will not be disappointed in this tour!Written November 16, 2024
- joellenc100 contributionsUnbelievable Experience!I don’t even know where to start! We booked a private tour to Hallstatt with Viator. Our driver/tour guide Michael Toth was beyond fantastic! The itinerary was just perfect and he customized the stops based on our preferences. He was so knowledgeable, friendly and funny! He gave us recommendations for things to do after our tour as well that were spot on. We had a wonderful lunch in Hallstatt (an adorable town) with the perfect table right in the water thanks to Michael! If five stars Is the top rating I give this tour and Michael a 10! Worth every penny!Written October 9, 2024

I'm a little torn about how to write this review. Going to Werfen Ice Cave was my idea and I really wanted to see it. All in all we had a nice day but not the one we planned. The 5 of us had a private driver who was a really nice guy and we liked a lot. On the drive to cave he explained how the day would go: after a 20-minute walk and short cable car ride, there are 700 stairs into and out of the cave. Wait? What? Stairs? and 1400 of them!? The description said people should be in moderately good shape, which we are, but that's a lot of stairs they forgot to mention. We are in our 60's and got over 20,000 steps nearly every day for the 3 weeks of our European trip--so we're not slackers, but that many stairs is more than we thought our knees could handle. I think the description of the physicality needed to this is not accurate. We also had a 21, 25, and 27 year old with us, so we pressed onward discussing we should attempt this or not as we walked. Frist you do the 20 minute or so walk (very pretty scenery along a mountain path which is on the edge of the mountain but secure with fences where needed), you then get in an enclosed cable car. At the top of the cable car ride, there is a very cute little restaurant with an outside patio and an incredible, expansive view. Sadly, because of the stairs, my husband and I decided that restaurant is where this part of the trip would end for us. So we sat outside and enjoyed some nice alone time together on the deck. That was nice. The tour guide said it was an exceptionally clear day that day and visibility much better and further than usual--so we had that going for us at least. The restaurant was fine & friendly about us ordering just drinks and not food for maybe about 2 hours give or take while waiting for our kids to return from the ice cave which was further down the trail. We had a nice lunch altogether at the cable car restaurant on their return. (lunch not included in tour price). Our 25 y.o. daughter, who is in pretty good shape said that by the end of the ice cave her legs were wobbly--so we think we made the right choice for us. The "kids" really liked the ice cave and took lots of pix (which I don't have from them yet to share, sorry.) So I'm happy they were able to go and thought it was worthwhile. After that, we went to Golling Waterfall on the way back. It was maybe a 10-15 minute walk to a spectacular waterfall. We live in Hawaii and have hiked many falls and still thought this one is pretty grand. We spent maybe 15 minutes there before heading back to Salzburg. I'm not sure just how to rate this since we had an enjoyable day and took in some great scenery, but it wasn't what we expected as a group. I can't give it 5 stars, but it was beautiful and the experience was somewhat unique and different from all the city sites we were seeing. Driver took a route back to take us through some small towns and off the main roads and through some particularly pretty and/or areas of extra lovely homes.

The ice caves are only open in the summer. We left by car from Salzburg, taking about 45 minutes. From where we left the car to the entrance of the cave, it is a fairly long walk up but with great views. You take a small, steep section on the funicular. You have to wear a thick jacket and a hat because inside the cave there is a temperature of minus zero degrees. It is an incredible and unique experience. I highly recommend it.
