- Ann B0 contributionsAdd this to your Salzburg itinerary! This was such a fun class! It was very organized so we were able to cover a lot of ground in a short period of time. While our apple strudel and Vanillekipferl cookies baked, we enjoyed the company of the other participants while we ate delicious goulash soup. When finished baking, the strudel and cookies were desert. We left with a goodie bag of cookies that we enjoyed with tea the next day. When we got back to the states we made the cookies to share with our family and friends. They will be a Christmas staple from now on! We would definitely take another class if we are fortunate enough to visit again.Written January 11, 2025

- ursulapena0 contributionsA Wonderful Family Cooking Experience at Edelweiss in SalzburgWe had the most incredible time as a family attending the Edelweiss cooking course in Salzburg! The experience was not only fun but also truly unforgettable. We learned so much throughout the session, and the instructors made it both educational and enjoyable for everyone, including our two daughters, aged 9 and 10. They were absolutely thrilled and couldn’t stop talking about how much they loved it. By the end of the course, they told me we must return in spring to take another cooking class! The surprise at the end was the icing on the cake—it was simply wonderful and added an extra touch of magic to an already perfect evening. I highly recommend the “Cook and Dine” course; the surprise is absolutely worth it, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. Everything was spectacular, from start to finish. Thank you, Edelweiss, for such a fantastic memory—we can’t wait to come back!Written January 1, 2025

This was a wonderful activity where I learned how to make an Apple strudel and Salzburg Knockerl that kept me out of the summer’s heat. The location was in a literal cavern in one of Salzburg’s mountain right in Old Town. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating! The instructor chef Selen, was full of historical and culinary knowledge. We were served homemade beef goulash that was to die for and they have the recipe in the recipe books they sell too! The strudels and Salzburg Knockerl we were taught to make came out fantastic and when a strudel is served warm the flakiness is astounding! I’d recommend this for anyone who wants to learn more about Austrian cuisine and also just to expand on their culinary abilities!

We loved this entire experience!!! We had a group of about 12-15 people. We were paired off and we each got to make our own apple strudel and souffle.
They gave us a nice beef stew that was delicious and offered us wine, beer or soda (at our cost). After the stew the desserts were ready and we got to eat them!!! Sooooooo delicious and amazing to know how to make them both! We will try our best to re-create them in our own kitchen when we get back home. The setting of the class was in a little nook in the side of a mountain which was a very interesting setting and added to the experience.
We LOVED this and give it an A+ !!!

Great experience. The chefs were extremely well prepared, informative and friendly and the meal/ cooking experience was designed with very little down time. My 14 year old son (who has no interest in cooking) even enjoyed it.
At the end, I left my backpack and they offered to drop it at our hotel for us.
Great experience and service.

This is one of our highlights during our Vienna and Salzburg trip. The class was incredible and so much fun! It was a nice way to learn something hands on and enjoy a bit of indoors time during the winter. Our kids, 10 and 8, also really enjoyed it.

Planned this activity as a fun way to engage all 8 of us on a family trip to Salzburg last week.... and boy was it a hit! The instructor and his colleagues were super helpful and patient with us who weren't at all proficient with the task at hand (think holes in the dough despite our best efforts). Nevertheless, their recipes were spectacular because despite our dreadful and inept cooking skills, both the apple strudel and salzburger nockerl we made under their direction ended up being so delicious (honestly better than what we've had at restaurants). The goulash lunch was also delectable. For that, I can't recommend this activity and this cooking school enough. We had so much fun that even my 13 year old nephew enjoyed it.

Our family of three had a wonderful time! We were the only guests in our time slot. With the benefit of Johann’s amazing tutelage , we managed a pretty respectable Strudel. We have plans to give it another try when we arrive home.
It gets even more unreal, he taught us to make Salzburg Nockerl, an Austrian sweet soufflé. We were stunned by the taste, texture and even more that we actually made them.
You are going to have a ball! There will be laughter, general silliness and a great deal of appreciation for the art of these dishes.
Warning!!!! You will be eating these creations in addition to Goulash.
We had an 11:30 time slot and showed up only an hour after consuming cinnamon and expressos.
Do not make that mistake!

The cooking class was fun and a break from the December weather. The pastry chef was an excellent teacher and was very entertaining! Lunch was excellent and we purchased wine to compliment our meal. The people in the class also made the afternoon a pleasure! I would highly recommend taking time out from sightseeing and enjoying an afternoon at Eidelweisss cooking school.

The Austrian Apple Strudel baking course was the best money we spent while in Salzburg. The location was a short walk from the Altstadt; upon arrival, we washed our hands and watched a demonstration where our instructor made it look flawlessly easy. Then we broke out into our groups to make and bake our own strudel. Under their careful eye, we had a wonderful time creating our dessert. Once they went in the oven, we made the Salzburg Nockerl. Culminating our enjoyable experience, we enjoyed a hearty soup and both desserts that we made. I would highly recommend the experience to anybody with some free time in Salzburg.

The baking course was great fun for us. I would never have imagined that we could stretch a handful of dough paper-thin to 1 square meter using only our hands. The 90-minute course runs like clockwork: the apples are cut, the dough has been in the fridge for a few hours. First Johann shows how it's done and then everyone follows suit (with help!). And it turns out to be real strudel. After they've landed in the oven, we make our own Salzburger Nockerln (again after a demo and explanation). While they bake for 11 minutes, Johann serves us a fresh goulash soup. Then it's time to eat the Nockerln and then our own fresh strudel. Everything works out - Johann and his team make sure of that. I've been to many cooking seminars - this one is second to none. Super-professional, friendly and fun atmosphere, perfectly bilingual (German / English), it tastes great and the recipes are there too. Not a second of boredom! Thank you very much!

The class was excellent. There were only 5 of us which made it very fun. The instruction was superb and the structure was well organized. I think if the class had been larger (more than 10), it would not have been as good because the space is small. I went alone as the other members of my traveling group wanted to do other things. I do not regret my decision at all! I learned alot and can't wait to try my new skills at home.

I don't see why not...keep in mind the space is small but to best be clear, I would contact the cooking school to find out.

How close is this to the Salsburg airport? Would there be an area that we would be able to store our luggage?
Written October 2, 2019
I don’t know about the Salzburg airport distance—we arrived by train and took a taxi to the school . They don’t have a formal area for luggage storage but they were kind enough to let us keep our luggage there since we arrived early for class, so we could walk around town a bit before attending class at 2:00pm. If you have the option of dropping luggage at your hotel before class, that might be better , the only reason we didn’t go that route is because our hotel was about 30 mins outside of town . Enjoy!

Hello. We are a party of four, to include my chef husband and 88 year old father. My daughter and I would take the class, but I’d also like to include the two men for lunch. Is this possible? Thanks. Andrea
Written August 31, 2019
Lunch is a very minor part of this activity, maybe 15min and it’s just soup (very tasty soup). Find them men something else to do if they don’t want to do the class.

We have a 2 year old with us. Can we bring him to the cooking class?
Written July 17, 2019
Depends on how quiet he is. It’s a small area and I don’t recall any distractions fir little kids. Best to ask the instructor but I think it will not be interesting to a 2 year old. There is a park with playground equipment across the street next to the river if one person wanted to bake while another watched the little guy.

Hi. What time do you normally start the class?
Thanks
Gemma
Written January 10, 2019
If I can remember right, it started at 11am. It is a wonderful, fun, delicious experience! My husband and I had so much fun making strudel together and the goulash lunch was just perfect.

We attended your cooking class in August. Could you send us the recipes for the strudel and nokerl? I was trying to find them on facebook with no avail. Thank you!

I bought the cookbook while there.
I love having friends over and making strudel!
