We spent 8 days in Austria and decided that this dinner/concert was among our top three favorite things we did. We chose to purchase the VIP Gold package that included alcohol and felt it was a good value. The dinner was quite good, the alcohol a nice compliment and the setting was just gorgeous. We were fine with eating inside as the views out the window were really special. The concert location was magical (in a room that you had to pay extra to visit if touring the Fortress) and the musicians were very talented with a great program. Not touristy at all.
I would only caution people to be mindful of your time. The waitstaff didn’t tell us that we were running late until the concert had almost started. So we ended up sprinting in our nice clothes to make it up multiple staircases in time for the concert. Minor glitch but worth mentioning

The meal was the least impressive part of what was an overall excellent experience. We paid for golden VIP tickets to sit on the panoramic terrace but we’re told it was too windy, which didn’t seem to be the case at all. The food and wine was decent, everything was very well organised, eclipsed by the extraordinary abilities of the musicians… what a delightful evening of music, in a beautiful, atmospheric setting.

We chose the Dinner & Fortress Concert Category 1 and were not disappointed. We were not sure where we to go as we had just arrived in Salzburg that afternoon and had not yet found our way around. However, we had no difficult finding our way. We arrived earlier than we expected, about an hour before our scheduled time, but were allowed to ride the funicular and enjoy the spectacular views. The weather was perfect too!
We could have arrived earlier than we did and explored more of the fortress but we were already tired from our day of travel and sitting enjoying the view was amazing. We were seated for dinner at window seats in a small room with about 4 or 5 other couples. Our waiter was super and did an excellent job attending to everyone's needs.
We finished our meal just in time and began making our way toward the interior of the fortress for the concert. I had read that comfortable shoes should be worn but I had not seen how many stairs we would be climbing to get to the concert hall. Mom had some difficult with that many stairs to climb -- but we made it. Several other guests even went with us slowly just to make sure Mom made it. Highly recommend comfortable shoes and be prepared for many, many, flights of stairs to climb and of course descend when coming back down. There are no elevators.
The concert itself was good. We had seats on the second row due to the Category 1 tickets and we were very grateful. Sitting where we did we had a great view of the musicians. They may not have been the best musicians but they enjoyed what they were doing which helps the audience enjoy the music as well. We are musicians and enjoyed seeing the love for music that was shared.
The ride in the funicular is very quick. I am not a fan of heights and did not look out by my father thoroughly enjoyed the view and would jump at a chance to ride the funicular again.
Overall this was a very memorable evening for our once in a lifetime trip to Salzburg.

The description of the dinner in the advertising was "Enjoy a dinner with marvelous views to Salzburg City and its surroundings". There were no views while at dinner. The dinner was in a crowded restaurant at the fortress which had no more atmosphere than your average restaurant in the city. The food was decidedly average ( we had the standard menu so I cannot comment on the VIP one) - a tomato soup that tasted like ketchup, a roast chicken dish that was pretty dry and a dessert which was beautiful, but bland. Drinks were not included and the prices were quite steep! They tried to sell us a 90 euro bottle of wine. What a waste that would have been paired with the boring food. In the end we settled for the cheapest wine on the menu at 36 euros.
The concert was absolutely outstanding, a varied program which included some of the favorites you would expect in a touristic concert, but also some less well-known pieces. The orchestra was fantastic. I was not expecting much, given the touristy nature of the evening, but they were truly talented. The concert was in a beautiful hall in the fortress, which allowed you to imagine you were back in Mozart's time, listening to his beautiful music. In the end, the concert made it all worthwhile, but... if it were possible, I would skip the dinner and just do the concert. We are giving this three stars, but in truth the concert was a 5 star event and the dinner would rate 2 stars.

This was fine.
The funicular ride is really neat, the fortress is lovely, the restaurant is lovely, the concert was very well performed. It was a really nice experience.
But the food was only fine. We didn’t upgrade to the VIP dinner, but I don’t think that would have made a difference in the quality of the food, just in the menu. We got beef broth, chicken, and Mozart cake. I have zero complaints, but I think I could have gotten better food for cheaper elsewhere. (You can’t beat the view, though!)
The concert was very, very good. I am someone who appreciates but doesn’t always enjoy classical music, and it was very enjoyable. They played two pieces, then a break, then a few more pieces. They were excellent musicians.
But the whole thing felt very “set up for tourists”, if that makes sense. I know different people travel differently, and some people really like that kind of thing, but I don’t particularly. I’d rather go to a restaurant that doesn’t cater to tourists and get better food, and then see Mozart performed at the local symphony or at a church or something. If we go back to Salzburg, we will probably just do that.

Spent a rather lovely evening here with colleagues and it was just a lovely evening. The views from the fortess were stunning, the dinner was good rather than fine dining but some good wine helped and the concert after was very enjoyable. Great way to spend an evening in Salzburg.

This was the perfect way to end our time in Salzburg. The food was good, but you’re obviously paying for the view, which is unrivaled. The Salzburger dessert was a perfect finale. The servers at the restaurant were clearly experiencing understaffing (this is common for restaurants everywhere nowadays), but they were hustling and gracious. The musicians were top quality. We did the VIP experience. I highly recommend it.

A lovely way to round out our time in Salzburg! Go a bit earlier to have time to tour the Fortress before dinner starts. We had beautiful weather that evening so enjoyed eating outside on the terrace among the beautiful mountain and city views. Dinner and service were very nice, the concert was lovely too. Glad we did this!

The concert was great. The acoustics of the room were perfect. There was some Mozart but not as much as I'd like. The dinner was interesting. It felt like the staff was overwhelmed. They were very nice but they seemed to be struggling with the size of the group. If I could do it again, I'd skip the formal meal and sit outside eating pomme frits until the show began.

The transfer to the location was great, the dinner was good, very friendly staff, good traditional food and sufficient options, size of the portion right. The concert was in a great hall, unfortunately nearly empty due to Corona restrictions, which gave an unpleasant feeling. Popular music has been played. Made to reach a width audience.

With regards to the funicular, since the show starts at 6:30pm, but the last travel time stated is at 6pm. Would there be a funicular after the event (which I assume finishes between 10:00 - 10:30 Pm)?

Is entrance into the Fortress included? In other words, could we come early and explore the castle before dinner?
Amy
1 contribution
Yes! The combined dinner and show includes the cable car and access to wander around the castle. If going for dinner (6pm) I suggest getting to the funicular (cable car) at 4.30 - it may take 20 mins to get up depending on crowds, then you need time to wander and see the sunset! All before dinner. Reserve a window seat (if you can?) as we arrived 6.05pm and seating was jammed in so if you’re not by the window it’s tight with less views. A wonderful evening though! Concert is up another few flights of stairs and went from 8-9,30, long walk down many stairs to get back to cable car to go down.
Is the concert and dinner package operating during the last week in december?
Also, are the meals the same in the VIP package?

I don’t know about the Winter Season. The VIP gave seating on the Terrace with View. Also free Glas of Champane at Intermission. You should Google it under „Dinner and Mozart“ that’s how I found out about it.I then called the # and made Reservations that way.You can also call to there to get verbal Info.
Después de ascender con el funicular (sin recogida) a la Fortaleza, el restaurante Panorama se encuentra a la derecha en la salida.
quiere decir que una vez acaba el concierto no tenemos incluida la bajada en funicular?

Access to the fortress is by funicular; then there are 100 steps inside the fortress to the concert venue. I am not aware of any elevator.
