Leopold was our tour guide yesterday and it was such a fun memorable day. He made the tour so lovely and there was never a dull moment. He explained everyrhing to us in english and deutsch! About the history of the place and where we are going and what to expect.
The funny thing is we used to live in San Francisco but now we live in Germany and he used to work in Sf as well back in the days, so that made the tour more fun because we had a lot to talk about and had something in common.
After our boat tour of the wolfgangsee, he showed us a litle bit of the city and that was very nice of him to do!
Overall we were so glad we booked this tour and so glad that we got him as our guide! He‘s very energetic, so much fun and a nice guy!!

We had a really lovely day out on this tour. The guide was Andrew, nice and friendly and knowledgable. The trip out across the lake was wonderful with the views of the surrounding mountains and villages, and the final stop was just right - time enough to visit the church, have a drink and do a little shopping. The bus met us at our final stop and brought us straight back on the motorway. Lucky with the weather on this one so the views were fabulous - can really recommend it.

Had a long weekend here following my granddaughter's school choir trip. Didn't expect anything much but instead throughly enjoyed the stay. Beautiful setting, clean and fine buildings and squares. Plenty of restaurants and cafes and good shopping too. Easy access to the lakes which are well worth a visit. Zell am Zee etc. Picturesque villages and good open air places to eat. Recommended

This tour was part of a surprise trip from my husband for my 40th birthday.
I was a little concerned how he would be on the tour, not having ever watched the Sound of Music, or having any desire to do so.

However, I needn't have worried. Yes the tour is predominantly about the film, but, the scenery and views which we love come as standard in this beautiful part of the world so a happy hubby.
Helped also by a fabulous guide in David. An Englishman who has lived and worked in Salzburg for a number of years, he is very knowledgeable of the story of the Von Trapp family, the film, but also the area as a whole.
And also incredibly funny!!

The tour takes around 4 hours but its not all spent on the bus, there are a few stops along the way as well as around 40-45 minutes in the lovely village of Mondsee (which is home to the Basilica where Maria and Captain Von Trapp got married in the film)

Drinks are available to purchase from the bus when you stop at the Hellbrun Castle to see the Pavilion (used in 16 going on 17) - there are also toilets here as well.

The gift shops here have a few Sound of Music souvenirs but as a whole Austria didn't really take to the movie, so there isn't a lot about.
I found the Basilica shop reasonable for a few bits. Also the Fort in the city had a shelf or two.

For any Sound of Music fan this is a must!

Had a great time on the tour we had taken with Panaroma. We had done the City and Contryside tour, the guide was very informative and helpful. Since we were only in Salzburg for a day trip, he was kind enough to drop us at the train station on the return journey.

You should not do this tour in the winter as visibility is bad. Also don't go on a Sunday as everything in the town's they take you to is closed.

Dear Lisa, Thank you for your review regarding our city tour. We are sorry to hear that you were not lucky with the weather and that you expected that all shops are open on a Sunday. Please note that these are circumstances beyond our control and have nothing to do with the quality and service of Panorama Tours. Thank you for your understanding. We hope we can welcome you again someday on one of our tours. Kind regards, Salzburg Panorama Tours, Customer care

This was a bus tour out to Hallstatt. We stopped to take photos as some other lakes. It was suppose to be a guided tour in English but instead it was half English and half German which got confusing and we missed out on things along the way. The guide didn’t give a lot of information on the way out or back. He did get tickets for us on the funicular but failed to mention that we had an hour wait to get back down and so we didn’t get to see the town square. Very disappointed in the tour but not with the wonderful scenery.

I recently took a brief trip to Austria, where I spent 3 days in Salzburg.

Salzburg is in a beautiful location and has a myriad of excursions to offer to guests. The first excursion I chose to undertake was Lakes and Mountains, a 4-hour tour that takes the guest on a comfortable coach to the lake district outside Salzburg. Lake Wolfgang is only around 50 kms from Salzburg and therefore easily achievable even on a half-day tour.

The tour leaves Salzburg at 2pm and meanders past Hof bei Salzburg where it passes by the Red Bull headquarters that have a stunning sculpture in front of the building, then travels past Lake Fuschl to St. Gilgen on Lake Wolfgang, where guests board a boat that takes them to the famous village of St. Wolfgang. Not everybody knows that St. Gilgen has its own claim to fame; it is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s mother, and also the place where Mozart’s sister Maria Anna “Nannerl” lived for a good part of her life, after marrying the magistrate of St. Gilgen.

The scenery in this part of the world is stunning in every weather and I was lucky enough to see part of it on three consecutive days with different weather conditions. The Salzkammergut, which this area belongs to, has the clearest lakes that make for beautiful photographs and, with the backdrop of the mountains, are a nature lovers’ paradise. Hiking, fishing, boating, swimming or even paragliding are all part of the activities offered around the lakes.

After a leisurely 45 minute boat trip, guests get to St. Wolfgang, where coach and driver have meanwhile arrived and wait for them to conduct a brief exploration tour on foot around the village and into the pilgrimage church with its famous gothic winged altarpiece by artist Michael Pacher, before allowing guests some time at leisure to explore the town, do some shopping or, if they wish, enjoy a coffee or ice cream on one of the many viewing terraces. The most famous one of all is without a doubt the White Horse, “Weisses Rössl”, which was the setting of the operetta with the same name that was produced in Germany in the 1930’s. The area is rich in history, due to it having experienced a very prosperous time several centuries ago, when the salt mines were in operation. Remnants of the salt mining era are visible everywhere.

After an all too brief time on the shores of Lake Wolfgang, the tour returns to Salzburg via another scenic route that passes Krottensee, Hüttenstein Castle and Lake Mondsee.

Salzburg Panorama Tours conduct this tour and many others on a regular schedule. Normally the tours run every day, but under the current circumstances with fewer visitors to the area as a result of covid-19, there may be days when not every tour is offered, so do check with the booking office before making plans. The norm is that tours run with 40-seater coaches, however, at the current time, minibuses that can accept up to 9 people run instead, in full compliance with social distancing rules and mandatory face coverings. On the tour I participated in, there were only one couple and our guide Richard on the coach apart from me.

If you are flexible with dates or have other tours that you would like to book, something can be found to enhance your stay in this beautiful area.
