About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Anna B0 contributionsLoved itI enjoyed this tour. Lovely scenic drive to hallstatt with a brief stop at Lake wolfgangsee. There was ample time to walk from one end of halstatt to the other and visit the two churches, shop for souvenirs, and have a lovely slice of cake. If you only have a short amount of time to spend seeing hallstatt, this tour is a convenient option. We must have got there at a good time before it got crowded.Written November 4, 2024
- B5513HIrobw0 contributionsRecommended for time limited travellersIf restrained by time then this tour will provide a scenic drive (sit on left side of bus for most photo opportunities) to Hallstatt. Once there you have approx 2hr40 min to explore. The allocated time provides an opportunity to visit/see MOST things in Hallstatt but not all (eg salt mine, walk to sky view as opposed to cable car @22 Euro pp, sit down for lunch or morning tea etc). If you wished to spend longer at Hallstatt you could catch the train from Salzburg then 15 min ferry across the lake and take your time to see everything at your leisure). Ultimately though I would recommend tour if it is understood the visit will provide an insight into Hallstatt and upper Austria as explained by guide and opportunity to see magical scenery and small village on a lake.Written November 4, 2024
- kathleenfG7255NO0 contributionsStunning viewsThe views were stunning! The guide and driver were great with great senses of humor. You could tell they enjoy their jobs. They were pleasant and helpful. Hallstadt was so charming and gorgeous. The guide was excellent. We had plenty of time to explore!Written November 4, 2024
- 947parisr0 contributionsDisappointing Experience – Not as AdvertisedI was excited about this Sound of Music tour but was disappointed with how different it was from what was advertised. I arrived 15 minutes early, but the main bus was already full and departed before 2 PM. I and seven others were moved to a small 9-person van. The guide was kind and knew the history, but the experience lacked the promised atmosphere of singing along to songs with the guide. Communication was also challenging due to a language barrier, and since the guide was both driving and narrating, her attention was split between the road and us. After requesting a partial refund for these issues, my request was denied. The tour didn’t deliver the immersive experience I expected, and I hope the company improves these aspects for future travellers. They should avoid overbooking—ticket availability should match the bus capacity.Written November 3, 2024
- catherinelV9800WH0 contributionsFantastic experience! Thank you April and Ferdinand! The Sound of Music tour was truly wonderful! I am a college student from America studying in Austria for a semester. My mom visited over fall break, largely because both of us are huge fans of the film and wanted to experience the tour and see the filming locations in person. April and Ferdinand led the tour and they were great! April is very knowledgeable about the history of the film and the city of Salzburg. She was also funny and passionate about her job! Ferdinand, who drove the bus, was very funny as well. We were offered drinks on the bus for a small charge while driving over the beautiful mountains. We sang the most popular songs from the film, but the experience was not overly-defined by singing. Neither my mom nor I are singers but it was hard not to join in and let yourself have fun with it. (It is a musical, afterall.) It was the perfect mix of singing, jokes, beautiful sights, and learning the historical contexts of the Von Trapp family and locations. We saw the famous gazebo, backyard and frontyard of the VonTrapp home, (which are 2 different locations), the abbey from the bottom of the hill, (it's 200 stairs to get up there!) the church that held the wedding, (We got to go inside!) and ended in the Mirabell gardens where the kids sang "Do-Re-Mi." For the few locations that we could not see, April explained why. (For example, the grassy hill that Maria sings on in the opening scene is private property and Panorama Tours has been trying to access it for years.) While in Mondsee, where the wedding church is located, we were given time to shop for souvenirs. We also had planty of time to take pictures. The tour made us appreciate the film even more than we already did. Rogers and Hammerstein were extremely brilliant and creative! I recommend watching the film the night before your tour to refresh your memory and be able to point out details, and also afterwards, so you can point out all of the locations you saw! (You'll even be able to point out the irony of the film's final clip to your friends...) This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for my mom and I, and it is a memory we will always cherish! It is impossible not to smile on this tour. I would absolutely do it again if I could. This tour is truly magical and quite special! Great job, April and Ferdinand! Thank you for keeping such a beautiful story alive!!Written November 3, 2024

Eagles Nest and the surrounding area are nothing short of gorgeous and a must-see, but I'd strongly recommend avoiding a tour with this company. The bus was crammed to the brim. We arrived early to get a seat but were then directed to a tour booth nearby to get a ticket printout, despite asking about this to the tour to get better seats and avoid delays. Thus, stuck in the very back of the bus as a result. For any tour to Eagle's Nest, don't bring kids under 8. It's not prudent to do so. The tour guide was habitually annoying as he told stories about himself vice the countryside and surrounding area. Didn't make much of any mention about the historical significance of the area either. Could've spoken more to what happened to locals when the Nazis moved or even how when the bus reaches the tour center it's literally less than 100 meters above the site of Hitler's razed house, thus you're at the doorstep of what was pure evil.
Expected more effort than this for the price and duration. Very little historical context provided by the guide who looked hungover, and the tour itself was poorly arranged and carried out. The sight and surrounding area you should see as the views are amazing and the history is important to see and understand. Use a different company, go on your own, or take a private tour. This tour company simply wasn't worth it. Avoid.

Hello,
thank you for your feedback regarding our Eagle's Nest Tour, which we have read with great interest. We are very sad that the tour couldn't convice you and that you have left our coach disappointed.
We are sorry you expected more historical in-depth information, but our guides try hard to give our guests as much information as possible. Nevertheless for more detailed information or special interest, we do recommend doing a private tour being much more flexible according to our guest's interests.
According to our evaluations and excellent reviews here on Tripadvisor, we get a lot of positive feedback on the running of the tour as well as on our guides. We are sorry that you had not the same personal perception of this tour.
Once again we are sorry that we were not able to meet your expectations and we would like to ensure you that your comments will be taken into consideration as areas of improvement.
We would be happy if we could get another chance to welcome you back in Salzburg someday!
With best regards,
your Salzburg Panorama Tours team

Booked this whilst here for a few days in Salzburg. Originally booked the Thursday but after checking the weather changed it to Wednesday with no issues. I'm not a bus trip fan too independent however worth paying for the informative guide, tickets all sorted for you and generally a hassle free trip. They even sorted a trip to nearby Berchtesgaden which was a beautiful place and we got lunch at a lovely little bakery.
Eagles nest what can I say, amazing engineering and the views are unreal. Can't recommend it enough.

This was a great option to see the Eagle’s Nest and Berchtesgaden, particularly since the tour handled all the transportation and tickets and all we had to do was show up at the designated times. It wasn’t a lot of time at the top but honestly it seemed to be enough time to take in some spectacular views and a little bit of history. It is worth the trip up to Eagle’s Nest and I would recommend doing especially if you love a fantastic view! The trip to Berchtesgaden is a nice little lunch spot and there was a few minutes to enjoy a little bit of its charm. Our guide, Walter, was very professional and provided interesting and fun facts about the area and Eagle’s Nest. He also provided good humor. He was very personable and did a great job tracking everyone to ensure we got to where we needed to be to keep the tour on schedule. He represented his company well. Overall, this was a very good tour. It really is for people who, like myself, would prefer someone else handle all the details and skip ahead of the line. Just remember that’s it’s likely you’ll be with a large group of people which really wasn’t terrible. As I look at it, you’re either in the big group of people at the front of the line or you’re in a big group of people waiting to get to the front of the line. Whatever you decide, you’ll enjoy the visit to the top!

The tour guide worked hard to be a comedian rather than an informer of information relative to the place we were touring. He did provide some factual, historical information but it was not developed in a context of a tour program so it lost it’s informative value. Just facts interjected here and there. Overall people did laugh at his jokes, so perhaps I was the only person wanting more information.

We unfortunately got a very cloudy day which is no one’s fault but we found that this panorama tour was terrible.
We only got 30 minutes at the house. Barely any historical facts or information was given. Yosef was more concerned with telling people what time to get on the bus.
We got less than an hour at Berchtesgaden which is not even slightly enough time to look around nor eat. The entire morning was extremely rushed and actually quite boring. Wouldn’t recommend this tour and felt it was a complete waste of money and could have done it better ourselves. Spend the money on a different tour group or a smaller group tour they’re much better.

Dear Leah,
thank you for joining our Eagle's Nest Tour and for your time sharing your experience with us here on Tripadvisor!
We are very sorry that you left our bus disappointed and that our tour did not meet your expectations.
The Eagle's Nest is one of the highlights in our area and is therefore very popular. We offer our guests special skip-the-line tickets and there are certain time slots that we have to keep to. Normally we have a stay of about 50 minutes at the Eagle's Nest. We are very sorry that your stay seems to have been shortened. We are also very sorry that you were not satisfied with the provided information. We will discuss this with our guides immediately.
If you would like to customize your tour, we recommend booking a private tour. This gives you more flexibility in terms of times and we can tailor the tour to your interests.
We always do our best to provide a great experience for our guests and apologize that this was not the case. Hope we will get another chance to welcome you on one of our sightseeing tours in the near future.
With best regards,
your Salzburg Panorama Tours team

Our guide, Walter, really sold the trip! He was very knowledgeable and also very funny on the tour and on the ride to the Eagles Nest. The skip the line process was seamless and we got through quickly. The Eagles Nest and surrounding views are breath taking and well worth the trip! It started to rain a little when we were on the mountain but it was still worth the trip.
For the stop in Berchtesgaden, I recommend stopping at a Beer Garden right near where the bus lets you off. The pork was great and the beer was delicious.
All in all, a great trip that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in the history or just wanting to go see the sights and get a good lunch.

Well organized and informative tour. Ivo, the driver, was terrific and Walter, the guide, was very informative and entertaining. They do have to keep a tight schedule; however, they do not make ti seem hurried or rushed in any way. The lunch recommendations in Berchtesgaden were terrific. Panorama tours themselves were terrific to work with. We had scheduled the trip through a third party who were very difficult to deal with as we had to change the date of our tour. We waited until we got to Salzberg, went to the Panorama kiosk at the Mirabelleplatz and they were incredibly accommodating.

We were initially concerned that the weather might hinder our tour, but to our delight, we ascended high enough to rise above the fog, which turned out to be an incredible experience.
Upon arriving at the pickup location, we were promptly directed to check in at the booth to receive our tickets. The process was seamless, and we were warmly welcomed by our guide, Antonio, as we boarded the bus. Remarkably, we departed five minutes ahead of schedule, thanks to everyone checking in by 8:45 AM as instructed on the website.
Antonio was an exceptional guide, providing us with fascinating insights into the city, Eagle's Nest, and the town we were about to explore. The tour was impressively well-organized. Upon reaching the bus station for Eagle's Nest, we transferred to specific buses that took us to the top via a brief, albeit cozy, elevator ride. The elevator was quite packed, but the ride was quick and efficient.
At Eagle's Nest, we had the freedom to explore on our own, but Antonio was always nearby, ready to answer any questions. He was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging, making the experience even more enriching. After spending some time at Eagle's Nest, we were given a designated time to take the elevator back down and board the bus to the main station.
The tour continued to the charming town of
Berchtesgaden, where we had ample time to enjoy lunch or shop. We were provided with clear instructions on when to return to the bus for our journey back. If you preferred to stay longer in the town, you could simply inform the guide so they wouldn't wait for you unnecessarily. We highly recommend getting lunch at Neuhaus!
The travel times were well-paced: the ride to Eagle's Nest took about 1 hour and 15 minutes, the bus ride to the top was around 15 minutes, and the journey to Berchtesgaden took approximately 55 minutes, followed by a 30-minute ride back to the starting point. Antonio kept us informed and entertained throughout, making the time fly by.
This was one of the most organized and informative tours Ive ever experienced, and I've been on many tours around the world. Antonio was an outstanding guide, and I truly appreciate his attentiveness in answering all our questions.

The trip was conducted by Panorama The tour was well organised with an English speaking guide who provided a comprehensive level of information. The view at the Eagles Nest on the day we went was stunning with excellent visibility which is essential for those thinking of visiting. This was a half day tour and I felt there was a lot of pressure exerted to keep to time. There was limited time at the top to take in both the views and visit the restaurant at the top. I was also a little disappointed the trip did not go to the Information Centre in order to provide more information about Hitlers arrangements at the Eagles Nest and wider Obersalzburg area. Finally, the hour stop in Berchestaden provided a useful respite for lunch but not enough time to see the town. I feel for the cost of the trip this should have been a full day excursion hence 4 stars not 5.

Hello,
thank you very much for joining our Eagle's Nest Tour and for taking time bringing your experience to our attention. We are very happy to hear that you were satisfied with the running of the tour and with our guide.
Please note that the Eagle’s Nest is one of the main attractions in the area and very busy during high season. So in order to provide a priority lane for our guests, we must keep the pre-booked time slots to/from the Eagle’s Nest. This ensures our guests about 50 minutes free time enjoying the view, a coffee, etc. The running of the tour is based on long term experience.
We hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the near future!

How money tunnels are there on the road to Eagles Nest, apart from the entrance tunnel?
Written June 29, 2022
There is five tunnels going up to the top & then one tunnel that you walk through to the lift that then takes you up to the eagles nest

2 of us are interested in the "Skip the Line Eagles Nest Tour - product code: 3595004, on October 7, 2021 but we have a few questions to make sure it doesn't interfere with other plans. We'll be staying at Arcotel Castellani Salzburg, Alpenstrasse 6, Salzburg A-5020, Austria and want to make sure that it won't be difficult to get to where we need to be to meet to start the tour. We also want to do a Sound of Music tour in the afternoon, and want to know what is typically latest time that return from the "Skip the Line: Eagles Nest Tour" is to make sure there is enough time to get to the Sound of Music tour. Can you answer both questions?

Hej
Mange hilsner
Michael og familie.

If you booked on Trip Advisor you should have with your confirmation email buttons to modify or cancel. If you booked with Panorama (the tour operator) you should be able to call or email them. They were very accommodating.
