An excellent day’s bird watching in the company of Guillaume who proved a knowledgeable and observant guide. From the freshwater lake at the Quinto do Lagos golf course to the salt pans of Olhao and Tavira, we saw an amazing number of species, 58, and learnt a lot about identifying tricky wading birds. Grey, common Ringed and Kentish plover, shelduck, shoveler, Gadwall, Wigeon, Pintail, Teal and Mallard ducks and many more species. Guillaume was considerate towards a couple of oldies, helpful and we would recommend this tour to anyone to wanting to experience the amazing bird life of Ria Formosa.

I had a great day out. The guide - Guiamme - was fluent in English (and three other languages) as well as superbly knowledgeable and pleasant. We discussed birds and birding all day long and amassed an impressive list. We visited two very contrasting sites with differing habitats and I was given advice regarding other places worthy of visiting. I thoroughly recommend this charitable organisation.

Gia the guide was very helpful and knowledgeable. Not a large variety of birds around due to time of year. Stopped at a variety of habitats in the area. Plenty of time for observation and taking photographs. An enjoyable day and look forward to more trips on my next holiday.

Our day was exceptional. We saw 36 bird species, incredible scenery, learned about local plants and some interesting history. Our biologist guide, Guillaume, was amazing at chosing varied locations locations where we saw different birds and their activities. He also was very knowledgeable and very professional about everything we asked - plants, towns, traffic signs, local tips. He knew the bird songs, always took time to point me in the right direction, and orchestrated an amazing day.

Tours like this depend of the quality and knowlege of the guide, and in this case was a real pleasure find someone like Guillaume with real knowledge. Im gratefull for that, because my son had a good expert to respond his curiosity 😄

Our tour guide Marcial was great, well informed, patient and just as enthusiastic as we were! Not only did we get to see the birds we were told about their calls and flight behavior as well as all the information we would need to know about the areas we visited. The tour was wrapped up with a cup of tea, biscuits and bird checklist!

Guillaume was an excellent guide. He took us to beautiful locations with perfect lighting and many interesting bird species. He is very personable and has a vast knowledge of birds and their habitat. We learned a lot and enjoyed spending our morning with him. Hope to do more tours with him next fall when we return to Portugal.

If you're looking for a peaceful, personal, and pulchritudinous place, look no further than the A Rocha in Cruzinha, Portugal. Marcial and Paola were WONDERFUL hosts and went above and beyond the call of duty. Wake up to wonderful bread and fruit amid a backdrop of birdsong from the abundant serin, swallows, and stunning azure-winged magpies. Little owls have laid claim to many of the hedgerows and just a short stroll away are myriad estuary birds, including avocets, stilts, and flamingos. This is a place to be fed aesthetically, physically, and spiritually. The A Rocha Algarve team is top-notch!

I had a delightful time on the birding experiences and the trips we took in-between to the cities and beaches were the perfect relaxing time.

As a new birder I thought the "relaxed" birdwatching week was just right for me. Seeing 100 new species, with Gui as our fearless guide, was a treat. The A Rocha facilities, something I was cautious about as someone who struggles sleeping in foreign environments, was as comfortable as anyone could dream of. The food satisfied my want to experience true Portuguese cuisine without trying to hunt down some satisfactory restaurant reviews and my sleeping situation was very comfortable. I would certainly go to this or another A Rocha site again and strongly recommend the experience to anyone interested in Birding, Conservation, or visiting the Algarve.

Guillaume was the perfect host, with outstanding knowledge of the area and its wildlife. The trip comprised just the 2 of us along with our host. Guillaume was very knowledgeable and identified over 30 birds on our half day trip. We covered over 6km. He stopped and focused on the birds with his scope and provided detailed information. We recommend this trip and especially the guide.

Previous reviews indicated that it would be a great birding outing with an excellent guide, and we found those reviews to be not only accurate but perhaps understated. Guillaume really knows his stuff! His skills at finding specific birds in a mixed flock was amazing, and his ability to verbally direct our eyes to see them also was much appreciated. As casual but motivated birders in new (to us) territory, it was wonderful to go with a highly knowledgeable and experienced guide and have him tell us what we were seeing. We went to two different wetland sites and saw 48 species, some of which were firsts for us. In addition to his birding skills, Guillaume could share information on any topic that we wanted to ask about, which made the drive to the sites very interesting and personalized. He is also a very good driver, and as a host, attentive to the personal needs of his group (nutrition breaks, bathroom breaks, pacing the speed of the walk to our ability). He even brought along camp stools to sit on for our lunch break. Our family of three Canadians, two seniors and an adult, wholeheartedly recommend this tour, both for the suitability of sites and the skill and personal qualities of the guide, Guillaume. It was a mostly overcast day, with intermittent showers, which was likely to our benefit as there was little glare for viewing and photography. I half suspect that Guillaume was instrumental in arranging the showers for when we were in the car or in hides. He was very good-natured about my incessant questions, great sense of humour, an all-round good sport.

Very enjoyable day - Guillaume speaks excellent English and is very helpful throughout the tour. Helps that they have such an excellent birding spot right there!
