About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- missyb8430 contributionsSpirit of the AuroraChristian was an amazing guide and incredibly knowledgeable. Amazing views. He knew exactly where to take us to see the Northern Lights. Can’t wait to get his photos.Written September 16, 2024
- marciamM7718YR0 contributionsAmazing hike on a glacierWe had an excellent glacier hike with Kamilla on June 29. The hike was amazing and Kamilla was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, helpful, supportive and appropriately careful. I enjoyed talking with her. Kamilla did a good job of judging the comfort level of the group in terms of which way to go on the glacier. I would definitely recommend her and the trip to friends! MarciaWritten June 30, 2024
- 952belindaa0 contributionsBest choice for a first visit to Iceland. From the initial contact all the way through, this company was great to deal with. Rebecca, in the office, was prompt to answer all questions and helped plan an itinerary that suited us. Our tour guide Agnes was amazing. She was friendly, funny, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She fit in perfectly with our family. Agnes made sure we were seeing everything we showed an interest in. Apart from the planned activities, she stopped for us to pat Icelandic horses, look inside caves and told tales about trolls along the way. She also organised great guides for tours we added on such as the ice cave tour. Christian, from David the Guide, was the most fantastic Northern Lights guide you could ask for. His passion for the phenomenon is second to none and he has even created his own app. He explained his vast knowledge, pointed out everywhere we needed to look and took amazing photos. Booking a private tour for our group was great as it included pick up and drop off at the airport which was very welcome after a long flight and lost luggage. We saw all the sites and had the time we needed at each one without having to worry about planning and navigating. The local knowledge of David the Guide made our trip easy and interesting.Written April 29, 2024
- MNuo0 contributionsPhenomenal Experience! This was my first time witnessing the majesty and breathtaking magnitude of the Northern Lights, and I cannot recommend this experience enough. Our guides, Christian and Ania were fantastic! Christian was so knowledgeable about the Lights and shared valuable insights! We also appreciated his stellar photography skills. I recommend this experience through and through! :)Written April 8, 2024
- mariapD2616BP0 contributionsPrivate tours in IcelandWe did two days with Agnes, including golden circle, south coast glaciers and diamond beach. She planned out our days very well. It was a pleasure to have her as our guide, as she is very knowledgeable. She’s also super positive and funny, especially when we were driving through some rough weather.Written March 22, 2024
- Seaside4824380 contributionsOnce in a lifetime expérience!I took a northern lights tour with David the guide company. The weather conditions were not ideal for seeing aurora as we knew the storm was coming soon however due to Ania’s (our guide) expertise and intuition we managed to see amazing dancing Aurora boréalis and get great photos. It was magical expérience! Highly recommended;) Bus was very nice and comfortable, we got hot chocolaté and cookies which was a Nice touch after being outside in the cold windy weather;) Ania was very helpful and gave a lot of information on northern lights during whole tour. I had fun and am very happy with the expérience:)Written March 5, 2024
- Jordis25440 contributionsImpressiveAmazing time. Waterfalls, black sand beach, diamond beach are gorgeous. Glacier lagoon and ice cave is very special and unique. You must go. Agnes our guide took care of us and explained a lot of very interesting things. She is very nice.Written February 20, 2024
- A6922WZkatieg0 contributionsWhat a cool experience!I had a great time chasing the Northern Lights with our tour guide David aka Christian (not David the Guide haha)! He was very knowledgeable about the lights and taught us about the importance of checking both the KSP of the lights as well as the magnetometer, satellite, and oval circle readings to make sure all the right variables were coming into play. You could tell that he was very passionate about the Northern Lights and seeing and photographing them. Although the Northern Lights weren't super strong the night I went, they did show up on the camera pretty well when David took our photos, which was very cool! We drove to two different places to try and see the lights better which I appreciated, and the hot chocolate and cookies were very warm and comforting since it's very cold when you're outside. On that note, I'd definitely recommend wearing at least 2 pairs of socks and at least 3 layers of pants and tops under your jacket to stay warm! (something I didn't do haha) I also ran into a couple on a trip who told me that this was their third time trying to see the Northern Lights with their booking since their other 2 nights weren't as good so they were allowed to reschedule/rebook additional days for free. I appreciate that David the Guide gives you the option to rebook/reschedule additional nights for free if you're not able to see the lights on your scheduled night. I'm pretty sure seeing the Northern Lights is definitely at the top of everyone's wish list while they're in Iceland so I appreciate that they're so helpful in helping you get to see it! Overall, I'd definitely recommend David the Guide for trying to chase or see the Northern Lights!Written February 17, 2024
- palashk20240 contributions2 day south coast tour including Jokursalon ,Black Beaches & Vatnajokul Ice CavesWe were 4 people on a 2 day tour with Nice Travels which involved a visit to Jokursalon & Vatnajokul glacier Ice Caves along with the south Coast drive . It was a wonderful journey with very helpful staff & and very amazing & fun Guide Olley. The hgihlight was they planned our ice cave tour at the perfect time in the morning which made us witness the glacier at golden hour. I highly recommend NICE travel if you are planning a visit Iceland & book some toursWritten January 15, 2024
- sharon_p19700 contributionsNorthern Lights tour with a photographerThis is a review about Northern Lights Tour With Photographer. I chase auroras in the UK so I know what, where and how I need to be to be able to do this - it usually involves somewhere dark, looking north and a favourable forecast - this is what I would have expected. I also know these things are very fickle and can show up un-announced. The day we went out, I had checked all my sources and it just wasn't going to produce anything as there was no solar activity. Our original tour had been cancelled on Boxing night so I received an email asking for other dates we could go on the tour so I gave 2 dates. So on the selected date, I got the email before 5pm saying the tour was on - I was like what! its going to be cloudy, KP1 and blowing a gale (36mph winds - the bus was literally rocking when we pulled up to the site) - we had been out with another tour company that day and they said they had cancelled theirs that night had many of the others due to the weather - maybe David the guide knew something everyone else didn't - here's hoping! So our pick up time is 8.30pm till 9.15pm - at 9.10pm we are collected and then everyone needs a toilet stop - that's fine as I think we wont get another one so we set off again from the station at around 10pm and go to the place that has been selected. No one gets out of the bus for the 1st 30 minutes at least due to the wind and the north view has a small town underneath it - so there is light pollution! We were in whale bay I believe. They offered cookie and hot chocolate at the sight on the bus rather than outside due to the wind but as the photographer still wasn't getting anything 20 minutes later I would have preferred them to go somewhere else darker. After two hours everyone got back on the bus who had ventured out and off we went home - no we will try somewhere else, no we are going home etc Northern lights are natural phenomenon so I don't blame anyone if I can't see one but I expect the company to do a good job on their part of deciding if it is worth going out or not. We chose this one due to it having a photographer but it just didn't seem like they picked there place well and to go out on a night when all others had cancelled theirs was a surprise - like oh well we will go out anyways as we can always give them a voucher to use within 2 years but I guess I will need to email them to ask for the voucher rather it being forthcoming as we have been back nearly a week now and no communication and just getting round to doing reviews I have to admit some of the customer service was fine when we asked about being picked up and they told us which bus stop If I had known the tour was going to go a little bit out of Reykjavik and then to a bay where there is a town the other side of the bay giving off light pollution, I wouldn't have booked to be honest which is disappointing as I spent a lot of time picking the right ones and for me, this didn't live up to the detail and the expectation unfortunately.Written January 7, 2024
- lizzieo20240 contributionsGreat experience! This tour was great! Agnes, our tour guide, was exceptional and stopped along our journey around the South Coast for us to take in some incredible views / sunsets. The accommodations for the night were standard and clean. Overall, I would recommend this tour for anyone trying to see the south coast in the winter!Written January 3, 2024

- satorua9560 contributionsWorst Aurora tour I joinedThis is a review about Northern Lights Tour With Photographer. I have joined 5 northern lights tours in the past (in Sweden, Finland), but this one was the most amazing. In a fully negative way. In the past tours, the first and most important thing we did was to get our eyes used to darkness. So we go to the darkest possible spot, turn down all the lights, to fully open the iris so we can see the Aurora with naked eyes. However with this tour, they keep indoor lights on in the bus all the time, even they kept the headlights on even after we dropped of at the viewing spot. This made me feel they have no interest in showing us Aurora. This is simply unbelievable. They offered cookie and hot chocolate at the sight, but I'd rather want them to look for better spot more delegently. The bus temperature was very hot (I asked the driver to turn down a bit, he said he can't), effectively making all cameras suffer from condensation. After two hours we finally started to move to less crowded place. And the guide told us to look for a sign of Aurora on the way from the window, while keeping indoor lights ON. Northern lights are natural phenomenon so I don't blame if I can't see one. I'm complaining because they don't do their job on their part. I really wonder if they have seen any Aurora, I wish they learn more about northern lights at least more than visitors do. Option to reschedule for free cannot be the excuse.Written December 27, 2023
- Odyssey3236640 contributionsGreat Northern Lights guide/photographerOur guide was a former Belgian - sorry, forgot his name - and the driver was a big friendly Icelander - both were very friendly and accomodating with blankets, hot chocolate, etc. They were not willing to settle for the first stop finding lights, instead insisting on continuing the hunt and striking gold on a subsequent stop. Very patiently took photos of everyone to share online later. Highly recommend.Written November 20, 2023
- W8771TXkennethm0 contributionsNorthern LightsWe went for northern lights hunting on the second day 12/11/23. All the other bus/tour group has left but we are very fortunate our guide from David The Guide were very patient and really passionate to providing us great experience. We were able to witness Aurora borealis, and could not thank the guide and the driver for their dedication to providing us the opportunity to witness the phenomenon. Kudos to the team!Written November 14, 2023

'Private tour' is a bit of a misnomer. There were 3 busses from the company who went out that night so that was about 120 people. We didn't get to see the northern lights but that was nobody's fault. We did get an offer to go out again another night but as it happened that week there were no sightings of the aurora..

Hi, if you could email us if you have not- a private tour should have had its own transport, and not be placed on a large bus- unless we were offering you to join our group tour if your private tour was unsuccessful.

We pre-booked the Northern Lights Guided Tour with Photos through GetYourGuide prior to arriving in Iceland and were impressed with the communications prior to our tour from the provider. We were picked up by coach from Bus Stop No1 in Reykjavik as it was not possible to pick up from our hotel. There are loads of trips going from Bus Stop No1 and it was a bit chaotic as hordes of tourists are looking for their transport, but to be fair our guide Norris did make it clear when he arrived which company he worked for. After a couple of more pick up stops we proceeded to make our way out towards the airport as Norris had informed us this was possibly going to be the area to see the lights.
During the journey Norris interestingly explained how and why the Northern Lights are created but also made it clear that seeing them wasn't guaranteed. After about an hour's drive we parked up in an a remote area away from man made lights, however, we weren't the only groups there - everyone seems to be in contact and checking web apps which inform the areas where you have the best chance of seeing the lights.
After around 40 mins and no sighting, Norris got us back on the bus to head out to another area which he thought maybe could provide a sighting. After another no-show of the lights we headed to an area with a lighthouse near the coast, again there were several groups already here. We spent quite a long time at this location and some hot chocolate was provided to the group, but yet again no sign of the lights. As the temperature had really dropped now and it was approaching midnight, most of the group had retreated to the coach, and I got the feeling that most of the group wanted to return back to their hotels. The coach driver was asked to approach Norris who remained outside with another guide to see if we could return back to the hotels but nothing seemed to happen. In the end I took the decision to speak to Norris myself and explained there was a bit of discontent appearing on the coach. Norris then came onto the coach and the guests explained that that they would prefer to leave as several had other trips arranged for the morning. It was agreed we would head back to Reykjavik but Norris wanted to make one further stop on the way to just see if the lights appeared there. This added an extra 20 mins to the journey but yet again no sighting.
So why the 3 star rating. Everyone was aware before the trip that a sighting of the lights was not guaranteed, but I think that Norris just needed to be a bit more in tune with the mood of his guests. It was great that he was really keen for us to see the lights and he didn't want to give up, but people were really tired and early starts the next morning. We got back to our hotel at 2am. He just needed to communicate better with the guests. Obviously this trip came with the added bonus of a photograph with the Northern Lights if they had appeared, but as they didn't a few couples had photos taken with the lighthouse at the last location. These photos were sent out by the company a day or so after the trip and to be honest were pretty poor quality so not sure it was worth the extra cost.
To be fair the company did send out vouchers for a free return excursion due to the non-sighting. Would I do this trip again - maybe but I would opt for a smaller group tour rather than a coach.

This so-called "tour" turned out to be a complete scam for tourists.
Despite the promises, the reality was disappointing.
A tour was announced with multiple strategic stops to spot the northern lights in the best conditions, but in practice, they took us to a single destination, widely known by tourists and affected by the light pollution and hustle and bustle of Reykjavik: the Grotta lighthouse (Seltjörn). It seems that gasoline is expensive...
The "search" was limited to waiting for hours inside the bus, without the possibility of moving or exploring the places we were promised to visit. The duration of the prank was not even close to 5 hours, including pick-up and drop-off. To say that this point was appreciated, since the cold or heat, when the bus was started, was unbearable.
And your search technology? Nothing more than the Aurora application, yes, the same one we all use.
The result was a complete failure and a waste of time and opportunity to witness the northern lights.
To make matters worse, their supposed "fantastic chocolate" was nothing more than a mixture of cocoa powder with warm water. One more mockery for the unsuspecting tourists who trusted in his deception.
Your only solution is to offer the possibility of repeating this waste of time, but my response will be to report this scam and demand the corresponding refund. Let's remember that it is a tour of more than €100.

This tour depends on nature, and we can not guarantee what will happen, despite our tracking. We acknowledge the frustration, but this tour is based on natural occurrences. We also offered a free tour which you declined-our policy is the same as other tour operators. You also wrote this same review on two different booking platforms- and you did NOT have a private tour.

My friend and I had an amazing experience on the Northern Lights tour with Ania! It was a perfect first night in Iceland. We sleepily boarded the bus at 10 PM, and Ania was super friendly and welcoming to us. The soft radio, blankets, hot cocoa, and Northern Lights facts made it both a cozy and adventurous environment. Ania was dedicated to making sure we had the best light show possible, and we were able to get plenty of high-quality photos and time adjusting our eyesight to the dark to watch the lights. Thank you for the wonderful tour!
