Getting to dive between the tectonic plates at Silfra was the main reason of booking my holiday to Iceland and it did not disappoint! It was an amazing experience to tick off one of Scuba's Top 5 dives in the world! My partner (who is not a diver) was also dragged along for the snorkeling experience.
We were collected from our hotel by Clarence who was running the snorkeling for the day, he was very informative and told me that everyone else on this bus was part of the snorkeling tour but my dive guide and some other divers who were self-driving would meet me there. On the way to Silfra he talked a lot about the area that we were in and gave some interesting facts as well as some useful information around what was ahead of us.
At the dive site I was introduced to my guide; Silvia who was very friendly personable while we chatted waiting for the other two to arrive.
The site was very busy alluding to a storm that was going to prevent diving for the rest of the week so unfortunately there was a considerable wait to actually get waterside. However; as a diver, particularly in cold water, you can never have too long to check your equipment over. All of the equipment is in good condition and clearly has well scheduled maintenance, and the dive team took time to explain the additional hazards associated with cold water diving. There was a thorough dive briefing and then a short walk to the entry point where we had to wait a little longer for our slot to enter the water. Any diver that is considering this dive, please be aware that particularly in winter, you need to be able to carry all of your own kit and weights over rough and sometimes icy terrain approximately 200 meters to get to the entry point. The dive it's self was amazing and words cannot describe the awe I felt for the underwater scenery and endless visibility. After the dive you again are expected to carry your own equipment approximately 500 meters back to the kitting up area, and be aware that as soon as you take your gloves off you need to get dry and dressed quickly before the cold gets you!
I was told on the bus home that the snorkeling was equally as good as the diving and that my partner would highly recommend this to anyone who is unable to dive at Silfra.
The snorkeling instructor Clarence was highly attentive to his group particular those who had not worn dry suits before, taking time to explain everything and ensure all seals were safe and correct prior to entering the water.
Our only little criticism is becuase my partner was not diving with me, her group was taken approximately 2 hours before my slot for the water which meant after the dive her group was waiting a long time for me to get back from my dive. Maybe this could be better managed by coordinating with the other companies that also use the site, or maybe it was simply because of how busy it was that day.
My guide Silvia has also stayed in contact with me on social media and email with the hope of teaching my partner open water in the future - excellent customer service! Thank you for an amazing day!

I really wanted to see Silfra while in Iceland but I have very little diving experience, so I hesitated between booking the snorkeling or diving tour. I ended up booking the dive, and the dry suit course on the day before in order to meet the requirements for diving in Silfra. This is the only thing I booked months in advance, even before accommodation!
By the time the morning of the dry suit course arrived I was more than a bit nervous but I was lucky to have Andreas as my instructor. He is very calm, encouraging and with a sense of humor that helps to keep stress at bay.
After a short theory session we practiced skills in the pool first and then in a lovely dive site in Grindavík. It was a challenging day for me, but in a good way.

The day after we were picked up in Reykjavík and then split into groups. For diving it’s a maximum of 3 people with each guide, which is really nice. Andreas was again my guide and he did a great job making sure the 3 of us were all set up and comfortable, and we had a nice briefing so we knew what to expect from the dive and a little more information about Silfra. You really don’t have to worry about anything else than enjoying the experience as the guides prepare all the equipment and help you get into it. The inflator valve of the suit I was wearing wasn’t working properly but Andreas changed it in less than a minute.

Silfra is a very special place, it’s really like you see it in the pictures and even better. The visibility make it looks like people are flying in it, and the colors are just beautiful. You get enough time in the water to enjoy it, and the fact that you follow a sort of ‘circuit’ means that it doesn’t feel crowded at all as each group enters the water in turns and at any given place you’re just with your little group.
The cold water feels uncomfortable for the first minute or so around the head and hands, but afterwards I personally wasn’t cold at all.
Andreas also took very nice pictures of us and of the place, which were a nice plus. Those are not mandatory to buy if you prefer to take your own.

I didn’t catch his name but the guide who picked us up in Reykjavík was also really nice. He provided a lot of interesting information on Þingvellir and on the way back we made a detour and stopped to take a few photos. It was a great way to make the most of the ride.
I also want to thank Martina who helped me trough the booking process and answered all of my questions.

This was just awesome. My daughter and I did the dive for her birthday. The operation is organized. Pickup was on time. Driver and Guide (CHARLIE) were super. Charlie did an amazing job with the entire program - including the underwater photography which I highly recommend purchasing with the package. I’m a dive instructor and know how much work goes into these programs. I can’t think of anything that would have made it better. SUPER JOB Dive.is!

One of the best dives of our lives. We would recommend dive.is who also ran the dry suit course prior to our dive at Silfra. On the day our guide Andreas was helpful and supportive with the cold water. We were concerned even in the dry suit we'd feel cold but the compressed neoprene dry suits, as well as thick gloves and hooks were great. They were so efficient getting us briefed and kitted out we were in the water before most of the other groups that turned up on the day. We got some great photos too!

This snorkeling tour is stunningly beautiful, and I recommend it highly to all who have a couple hours free and like adventure and new experiences. Best of all, however, was our infectiously-fun guide Silvia Zurita. She made the afternoon special. We felt like we had acquired a new best friend. In addition to being knowledgeable about the local geology and what we would see on the dive, she told us about her wide travels and future plans. Silvia is such a happy person that you can't help feeling upbeat and glad to be alive after spending time with her. Home-run event and best guide ever!

I had an amazing time snorkeling at Silfra! While I wasn't nervous about the snorkeling part, I was worried that I would get too cold being in the water. My snorkeling guide, David, made sure that my dry suit was fitted well so that I didn't have any leaks. He was also thorough in explaining the activity and safety precautions. The actual snorkeling activity is breathtaking. The water is crystal clear, the geology is enchanting, and the luminescent algae is beautiful. I could have stayed in the water for hours just looking around. David was by our sides every step of the way and kept us from leaving the safe bounds of the area.

After the trip, AJ, our driver, treated us to a different route back to Reykjavik, and entertained us with stories about sheep and past trips. He brought us to a scenic overlook for beautiful pictures. He made our trip that much more fun!

Silfra was incredible, Dive.IS was super well organized and responsive. I'm a new drysuit diver (just certified for Silfra) and I appreciated that it felt like the guide Giancarlo kept an extra eye on me to make sure I felt comfortable and was doing okay. Rami also helped me complete the Tectonic Plate specialty which I would absolutely recommend because I felt like I learned a lot more about the environment and made it even more interesting! I even went back to the shop to purchase the sweatshirt because I didn't get it the first time around and regretted it.

From beginning to end this was the ultimate bucket list dive perfectly executed with the wonderful assistance of the dive.is team. AJ picked us up as planned from the selected location and on route gave us an unexpected tour commentary on what we were passing and Iceland in general. On arrival the organisation was exceptional and advice similar and then The Dive! I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful this dive in Silfra is, and made infinitely better by the help and advice of the whole team but especially Lorenzo our guide who was honest and yet upbeat and answered all our concerns from normal UK divers who hadn’t done this cold a dive. Throughout the dive Lorenzo looked after us and gave us the very best time, thank you so much a memory to treasure and further enhanced by the wonderful photos Lorenzo took - well worth getting.

Excellent experience with Dive.IS doing the 2-day combination PADI Drysuit certification course the first day and diving in Silfra the second day. Dive.IS is a well-run organization even during these Covid times and it shows. My instructors and divemasters Clarence and Ants are who truly made for a memorable experience. They were both patient/chill but expert professionals and super helpful in technique for what were my first cold water/Drysuit diving experiences. Our groups were small and easily maneuverable. The equipment was also well-kept and great quality (divers who have had experiences in the Caribbean or SE Asia may know that this is not always the case with rental gear elsewhere). If you are a diver and have been thinking about learning Drysuit, these guys make it easy, fun, and great learning. While I am doing other hiking/outdoor activities while in Iceland, this was the cornerstone main purpose of my trip and worth every krona. I would choose to certify here without question. And if you are headed to do so in Iceland, Dive.IS is the place to do it for sure. Combined with being able to dive the famous Silfra, you get a unique perspective compared to only snorkeling. Also, given the whole area is between the tectonic plates, we had a bonus other fissure (David’s Rift) even during the 2nd certification dive. Thank you Ants and Clarence.

I did my dry suit course and the Silfra dive with Alex (great instructor and guide) earlier this month and both were great! Iceland in Jan is definitely not for the faint of heart, but hey, proof that the dry suit works even in 2 degree water!

Highlight recommend Dive.Is for anyone looking to learn how to dive in a dry suit and Silfra was incredible as expected. The company was super flexible in working with me to fit everything in a relatively tight schedule so thank you to again!
