We went out with Thor and the lights were quiet, but he made sure we knew how to set our camera and really taught us how to take photos of our own, in addition to making sure we had the best chance to see whatever lights were available. He was so good, we booked another night with him and the lights we saw were so incredible. He took us away from the crowds...a lot of the other tours have so many people that everyone gets in your shot or they all line up to take pictures and don't really pay attention. He moves when necessary and knows the best spots. He has great refreshments and entertaining stories of Iceland. He sends pictures quickly. Highly recommend this tour!

We had an incredible experience with our private tour hosted by Thor. He drove us into the Highlands and showed us the Apple Creator, Valley of Tears, and Sigöldufoss waterfall. The landscape was incredible. We were able to customize our tour and Thor was very flexible and professional. We would highly recommend using Thor as your guide.

I cannot stress enough how this private tour with Iceland in Motion is a hidden gem and worth every penny spent. Thor and his colleagues provide a personal experience for small parties away from the principal tourist trails with exhilarating views that exceed golden circle highlights. The trip was so spectacular that I have taken it twice, once in 2022 and once this year. If you choose this excursion with Iceland in Motion, I know you will be awestricken by the sights of the high country and the connection to Icelandic history provided by Thor and his guides. After three trips to Iceland and numerous excursions, this is far and away the best of all!

We did a private day tour of the Highlands with Thor and had a fantastic time. Thor is knowledgeable anf friendly, a true Icelander! He took us off the beaten path. It felt like we had the mountain to ourselves.

A truly magnificent experience! We were able to explore the highlands with a smaller group of 6 in a 4 wheel drive vehicle that allowed us access to more remote places. The valley of tears , oasis area, and waterfalls were all breathtaking. In addition, we benefitted from the expertise of our guide Thor, who provided great insight into life in Iceland including historical as well as modern day, and even some mythology. This was a tour I would highly recommend.

I did A TON of research before selecting Iceland in Motion as our guide to search for the Northern Lights. Here’s why you need to go with Thor- quite simply- he’s a pro. He studies the various scientific models and KNOWS what conditions produce the best likelihood of you seeing the lights. He also knows where to find the best opening in the sky to see them. He’s very fair- if he doesn’t think they will show- he lets you know- great communication. We thought our cloudy night would be a failure so at our time to leave, he was not sure it would be worth it. We opted to cancel. But 2 hours later he emailed me and said he thought maybe south of the airport we would find them. We said no thanks. Too late. But then quickly changed our mind and he picked us up at our hotel 30 minutes later! Let the adventure begin! He is so knowledgeable and wants you to have a great experience. He is as excited to see the lights as you are! After a drive, we peeled off the highway to a side road and then to the beach. He set up my son’s new canon camera on a tripod- Thor is an expert photographer too so he knows how to get your settings straight for the best results. And they appeared!!!! We were the only hunters out that night and we cannot thank Thor enough. He is the most thoughtful talented guide. I would recommend him again and again. Our photos are of the lights on a night when the chance of the Aurora appearing was a 1 out of 10. It looks like daylight due to the full moon which really helped the camera with the lighting. My iPhone was able to capture shots too but if you don’t have a “real” camera, Thar brings his for the trip. Thor’s experience, knowledge and perseverance delivered!

Only had a short overnight stop in Iceland on my return from Sweden, and was looking for something different to do than the full-day Golden Circle or South Coast tours. Stumbled across this great excursion. Our guide was a great communicator and picked me a very short walk from my hotel. It was only one other visitor, our guide, and his assistant. After a short drive outside Reykjavik, we stopped for a light hike, descending into the valley where the hot springs and cold glacial runoff met. I had a wonderful time relaxing like the locals, glad not to have just repeated the Blue Lagoon or another touristy location. After our leisurely soak in the warm river, we got dressed and hiked back, with our tour guide showing us a few additional gems. After dropping the other visitor off at her hotel, he arranged for his assistant to bring me to the airport for my flight to the U.S., which saved me a lot of time and hassle. All around a great experience. I'll have to upload some of the pictures, since I'm remiss and didn't write this review until roughly four months later.

We have traveled extensively around the world in the last seven decades. This experience was nothing less than remarkable. Our guide Thor was intergetic, knowledgeable, funny and helpful. We saw the attractions most tourist see, and several that they never see. We experienced geysers, volcanic craters, waterfalls, lava fields and lands were steam was rising from the. We ate in one restaurant along side cows, and then another restaurant inside a tomato greenhouse that provides 80% of the tomatoes to Iceland If you have the time and interest, add this to your bucket list. I promise you will not regret it.

I first met Thor in January when my wife & I hired him to take us on a Golden Circle & South Coast tour and to see the Northern Lights. We had such a good time that we hired him again this month to take our family on a four-day private trip through the Highland. > Safety. Whether it was driving in the snow in January or crossing rivers on the F-Roads in August, Thor was a confident & competent guide. > Local Knowledge. Thor grew up in Iceland, and he knows the country well. I was truly impressed with his ability to navigate the various F-Roads in the Highland without ever consulting a map. He knows his bearings by looking at the mountain peaks. > Humor. Thor is funny .. and he makes easy conversation that makes you laugh, while educating you about the culture, history & people of Iceland. His rates are very reasonable (comparable or cheaper than any alternatives we considered). His pre-trip communication was prompt and clear. He was able to access resources that were otherwise unavailable to us (e.g. - reservations at remote huts in the Highland). I look forward to seeing him again on our next trip to Iceland!

Thor was an excellent guide. He took us to places even other Icelanders we’re not aware of. He was also very friendly and knowledgable. He entertained us during the drive with local lore and helping us speak the local language. A++

My wife and I just returned from a 7-day private tour of Iceland with Thor. We traveled the Ring Road from Reykjavik to Akuyeri and back, seeing many sights along the way along with seeing the Northern Lights three times. From Thor we learned so much about Iceland's geology, economy, culture and so much more. He is a perfect traveling companion and excellent guide.
