I had a great time! Snowmobiling was awesome!
This Golden Circle Super Jeep and Snowmobile tour was steep in price but I felt it was well worth it. Toti was our lead guide and he did a fantastic job leading us throughout our long day tour. It began in the morning at 8 am when I got picked up in his Super Jeep outside my hotel at bus stop 9. Once Toti picked up everyone at their respective stops we started heading on our way to the Golden Circle area… we even saw the volcano that erupted that same morning in the far distance from the Jeep. Our first stop was at the famous Gulfoss waterfall but there wasn’t too much to see of it because it was mostly frozen. After that, Toti took the super jeep on the snowy trek towards the snowmobile sight. It was quite a long and often bumpy ride through the thick snow but Toti did a great job and it took about 40 minutes to reach the snowmobile site. Once we got there, we the followed the instructions set out by the snowmobile instructors about getting our suits on and how to use the snowmobiles. Soon we were on our way and we went about 25 minutes out a point in the snowy wilderness and then went 25 minutes back to the snowmobile departure site. It was an amazing experience and I thank all the team members at that snowmobile site for leading us on that amazing excursion! After the snowmobile tour Toti and the super jeep brought us to our last two stops which were an hour long stop at the Golden Circle where the famous Strokkur Geyser was and then finally at an observation platform where we saw amazing views of Thingvellir National Park. After that, we head back to Reykjavik and I was back at my hotel around 8 pm. Big thanks once again to Toti for being our lead tour guide and super jeep driver throughout this whole day and big thanks to the snowmobile instructors of Mountaineers of Iceland for leading us on that amazing snowmobile excursion! I thoroughly enjoyed it - Nolan

Excellent trip. When we booked, it seemed expensive, after the trip, I'd say good value! Day started early, pick up at Bus stop 9 was very busy so you have to be alert! Started with watching the sunrise at the national park which was lovely. Next on to meet the snowmobiles. Aron was a great guide. Enough information, little bit of dry humour not too much talking and great driving considering the conditions to the glacier. Never felt scared but definitely thrilling. At the snowmobiles I was pleasantly surprised to find that the snowsuits came in loads of sizes and I was given the right size without being asked. As a larger lady this made me feel very comfortable! We also had ski trousers and coats under the snow suits. The actual snowmobile ride was amazing, terrifying and twice as fast as I expected. The guides realised quite a few in the group wanted to go fast and had fun with us. My husband and i overshot a corner and came off but we weren't hurt and to be honest it's a story to tell! One of the snowmobiles broke down, the guides tried to fix it whilst we enjoyed the glacier for a bit but they ended up abandoning it and taking the two people on that one as their own passengers. They probably had a more memorable ride too as we definitely went faster on the way back! The journey to and from the snowmobiles in February after a week of heavy snow was not for the faint hearted but we trusted the driver and the vehicle and had fun with it! We stopped at the waterfall for an hour and the gyser for 20-25 mins on the way back both were great! All in all, a fantastic trip and worth the money.

      Triller Adventure
The Golden Circle Jeep Tour was amazing! First, we visited pingvellir Djodgardur, then went straight to the snowmobile area. The staff was very helpful and the ride was smooth and I have no words to describe the emotion of visiting the Glacier. The Jeep off road was an adventure. Lastly, we stopped in Geysir and were slashed with the mist by surprise! I highly recommend it.

      Amazing Adventure
This trip will put a big tick in on your bucket list! Nikulas drove us through some fantastic scenery in all kinds of weather. His interesting and informative commentary passed the time during the long drive to snowmobiling. The snowmobile area was busy with groups coming in and out, but also very well organised. The experience of travelling across a glacier on a snowmobile in heavy snow was breathtaking. The additional warm over-suit much appreciated . I loved the visit to the Gullfoss waterfall. Nikulas parked away from the observation deck which provided a far better angle for photographs and video. The geysers in the national park were another example of the very different and unique landscape. Also the point for a food stop. The final stop was a visit to a valley where you can walk between the Eurasion and American plates. To do this in snowfall added to the experience. A thoroughly enjoyable day. I must politely address the comments made in a previous review by FrauleinGeegs as I was on this tour. All other guests ensured they were at their pick up points on time. I very much doubt your voucher confirmed your hotel as the pick up noting your location. There are those who expect a hotel pick up as standard. In fairness to Nikulas he made numerous attempts to contact and find you, even turning round after 30 mins to drive back and pick you up. The ‘hostility’ you reference was a valid and isolated comment from another guest. This was in response to your planned and deliberate moving of seats at an early stop splitting him up from his wife. The above should not be reflective of the rating to Mountaineers of Iceland. A fantastic trip and a brilliant day out. Thank you.

      Super Jeep, Super Confusion
TL;DR: AMAZING. Once-in-a-lifetime trip. BUT: subtract one star for communication with the tour coordinators, who stated on their site and our confirmation/trip voucher that we'd be picked up from our hotel, but initially left the city without us... Coordinators, PLEASE explicitly communicate with visitors unfamiliar with the area that drivers cannot take their jeeps down Laugavegur for pickup from hotels! I would rank this as "5 out of 5" for the *incredible* day, the magical sites, the once-in-a-lifetime surreal experience of snowmobiling on a glacier (even in white-out conditions, it was unreal, and when the sun came out over the peaks, WOW), the witty and conversational driver who somehow managed to get us up to the glacier in a national weather emergency (even with the super jeep, it was precarious and intense at times). BUT we weren't told to meet the tour group at a bus stop. We were told to be outside our hotel on Laugavegur at 8:30 am, ready for rolling pickup by 9:00. We were outside at 8:25. At 8:45, we tried calling the phone number provided to check on the pickup status, but the office was closed (it was a Saturday). At 8:50, the front desk staff came out to ask if we were waiting for a tour, and when we shared the details, he told us to try calling again, because "this has happened before." We found an emergency number, called it, and at 8:55 reached someone, only to be told "We've been looking for you. You were supposed to be at the bus stop." This was the first time that plan was communicated to us. They also were trying to call the wrong phone number. When we shared the language on the voucher we'd been sent, they confirmed we'd written this address down, but were only told then, at 8:58, "That doesn't work, we can't get up that street." We asked what we could do, where we could meet them, and the operator said, "Okay, can I call you back?" Turns out, our car had left Reykjavik already without us. The driver turned around and met us at a nearby bus station, but this meant that our tour started 25 minutes late. We received several hostile comments from others on the tour, as it'd been inferred that we were "no shows" and had messed up the whole schedule. On top of the bad weather, this meant we had abbreviated stops at Gulfoss Waterfall and Þingvellir National Park, which we'd been so excited to see. We ultimately had one of the most memorable days, but the frustration of this miscommunication could have been avoided.

      Once in a lifetime!
A fantastic day with Nikolas from Mountaineers of Iceland. Picked up on time and headed for the glacier (only to turn round for the 2 ‘no shows’ who the required picking up). It’s a 90 minute drive to the glacier for snowmobiling, with a comfort stop. What an experience!! You’re fitted with a snow suit over what you’re wearing, provided instructions and a safety brief and then you head out! There was a 25 minute convoy thru a blizzard! Looked after the whole time. Invigorating ride!! We stopped for 15 mins for the group to take photos - then on the 25 mins back, the cloud broke and the sun lit up the glacier! Amazing. The stop at the waterfall was stunning. Fantastic off the trail viewing and photos. The geyser visit (inc. a comfort and food stop) was interesting, whilst the final tectonic plate stop was brilliant (heavy snow fall). An all round bucket list trip tick! Then there was our driver Nikolas. Informative, funny but above all else highly skilled at driving in challenging snow conditions and extremely safe. A great day out.

      Snowmobiling in - 25
Really looked forward to this trip which after doing it would not be repeated. I did enjoy the 30mins on the snowmobile. You start off with an hours trip to the venue from the drop off point on a cold uncomfatable bus. When you arrive your shepparded off and hearded into a changing area for cold weather gear. It's total chaos with various groups all mixing together. You finally find your guides who look totally board with your once in a lifetime adventure and when asked if anyone was cold? Instead of offering advice on how to refit the headscarf or snowsuit there answer was Tuff get used to it!!! Not very professional. The intro to the snowmobile was good as was the 30mins run out with a short stop for pics and ride back. It was then back to the sheep dip clothes off back on the cold bus back to the drop-off point. What a shame a great experience was so poorly executed.

      not worth it at all
please don't do it. Extremely expensive. took like 2 hours on a bumpy ride to get to the glaciar. Once we got there only 15 minutes on the snowmobile, maximum speed 18 km/h. too many (40 ) snow bikes on a single line. Nothing extraordinary. If you have plenty of money to spend and like 15 days on Iceland and you are bored, do it. Otherwise not worth at all.

      Disappointing snowmobile experience
Truck to "base camp" got stuck, lost an hour before another truck arrived. We thought they will divide us into smaller groups but instead the 20+ of us were following each other in a long line, went on snowmobiles for 20 minutes, stopped for 10 minutes, went back to camp. Going back down the truck went so slow because a tire was loosing air, it took forever and they finally had again to transfer us to another truck. We lost half of a day for less than an hour on the snowmobile and a $440 bill!

A FANTASTIC DAY OUT AND SUCH FUN
This is great to do if you only do it only in your lifetime! The staff are extremely helpful and get you all wrapped up. The landscape is beautiful it’s hard to tell where the land stops and the sky begins. A word of caution there harder to ride than you’d think.

      Unique experience and views
Beautiful experience, views are amazing and you won't see these views any other way. Ride to the locations was difficult but the big trucks handle it fine. Nice warm clothes provided and safety gear. Snow mobiling is fun, gives you plenty of time. For the adventurous driver it might be a bit boring to just follow in a straight line at a slow pace (safety reasons ofcourse). Unique experience, would recommend!

      Ride of a lifetime
Great first time trip to iceland, we took this snowmobile experience to another level with some extreme driving in the transfer coach. The 8x8 truck ended up in the ditch next to a lake but the boys with the d5 dozer done a cracking joab in pulling the big tang straight out. Reek and noise was phenomenal. Would highly recommend to anyone with a daredevil attitude and lover of big rigs. The snowmobiles were okay 🤠

The snowmobiling in 2nd largest glacier wrapped in super jeep vehicle
It is the highlight of our Iceland Winter Trip. It was super freezing with -20.50 Celsius in the glacier, yet it was so thrilled riding in the snowmobile with breathtaking white scenery. It is a worth trip and amazing experience while in Iceland. My husband is super fan of 4x4 jeep and Toni is the most skilled outbound driver in a thick snow and narrow road ! Kudos to him !!!

Six of us enjoyed this trip a must do experience. You are picked up in a monster truck then met by a bigger truck with chains on the wheels. How it gets to its destination over the ice and snow is incredible. Snow overalls helmets and gloves are issued and then a short training sessions and safety talk. You travel in a line to the ice cave approx 30 mins . The cave was incredible . Then back on the snow mobiles. Staff were great. Weather on the glacier is brutal and I wore crampons.

Would I recommend the ice cave? No. We both agreed it would be nice to see the ice cave but it was more of a dark tunnel lit up by some torches on the outside. Quite underwhelming considering the price difference and if I were to turn back time I’d have definitely either just booked the snowmobiles and saved my money or have spent it on the secret lagoon.

The snowmobiling itself had potential to be amazing but unfortunately our group spent a lot of time tipping over so we feel like the tour was cut short due to it getting dark and the amount of time we spent at a standstill picking people up. We both agreed it would’ve been better to have had smaller groups as our group seemed to just go to the cave which really wouldn’t have taken even a third of the time it took due to other people toppling their motors. The views and scenery made up for it but we felt it was a shame we couldnt get further than 300m without the group being stopped to pick someone up. It got to the point even the guide looked a bit pissed.

I think overall, it is an amazing feeling to venture onto the Glacier and it’s something that I won’t be forgetting in a hurry but could’ve been made a lot better with something just as simple as smaller groups so you can get a better run out. We were fortunate to have nice weather and clear skies, even saw the northern lights on the way back. The sunset we saw up there on the glacier was just phenomenal

We (group of 4) decided to add this to our trip and I'm so glad we did. Due to weather, we were notified two days before our scheduled tour that they were cancelling the tour as scheduled. We were given the option for a full refund or to reschedule. Luckily, we had some flexibility to reschedule. The communication with Inga was very quick and easy.

The tour itself was great! I was nervous when we hopped on a bus with 50+ people that we were going to be the tail end of a very, very long snowmobiling chain. However, once we got off the bus, they brought the 16 of us that opted for the Ice Cave tour to the side for our safety briefing. Our guide, Sniper, was really nice and made our whole group feel very comfortable with the snowmobile (none of us had ridden on one before). Once the briefing was over, we were in a group with only 10 vehicles. It was so fun! We had enough room to get some really high speeds, but felt very safe with our two guides.

The cave was pretty cool, no pun intended. It was small, but I haven't been in anything like it before so it made for a couple fun photos.

We had an 8 year old in our group and he LOVED it. Mountaineers of Iceland outfitted us with warm clothing, which I was very grateful for.

The tour takes you over the glacier to a man-made little ice cave, which is pretty cool and the guide explains a bit about the ice and the formation. You get to do some pictures in there. After you ride to a little viewpoint. Riding the snowmobile is super fun, however you ride in one line and obviously have to keep distance to the one in front of you, so you can't really drive proper fast. I thought the riding time itself was way too short. The whole getting to the glacier & get dressed takes up most of the time.

Thank you for your comment, happy to hear that you enjoyed the tour with us. As we are working on the glacier we sometimes have to alter the time frame according to the conditions on the glacier each time. During the summer the glacier becomes a bit more tricky and we don’t have as much space to work with as water accumulates on the glacier and gaps on the glacier open up. During the winter the gapes fill up with snow and freezes to give us more safe ground to work with. I would highly recommend the Glacier rush tour for those that want more advanced tours. Best regards Mountaineers team.

Booked this as an adjunct to our self driving golden circle tour. Easy to find after an early breakfast at a bakery in Reykjavik. Pricey (but then everything here is) but worth every penny. Well organised from start to finish and our guide, Sniper (short for something longer....), made my wife (a little nervous of snowmobiles) feel very comfortable, and my kids (13 and 14) feel very special. A big thank you to him. All in all a great adventure and, whether we got lucky I don’t know, but most of our group had booked the simpler glacier tour so our jaunt to the ice caves felt that little bit more exclusive. Lots of thumbs up!!

Such fun! Great ride up the mountain in the 4WD bus and then suited up at base camp and shown how to use the snow mobile. We felt safe the entire time as it is clear the guides are keeping a close eye on us and will help anyone who falls off really quickly. Unfortunately we couldn’t go to the ice cave as there was too much snow fall and wasn’t safe. That was ok as the trip was so much fun anyway. 100% recommend!

That was our first ever snowmobile experience. We had a kid with as aged 7yo. And as this was the only snowmobile tour we could find for kids younger then 8 we decided to go for it. It didn't disappoint and it was fun for kids and for adults alike. The tour is well organized, client responsible, the young guide did his best to tell as lots of interesting facts about the cave and the surroundings. And speeding up through the white snowy desert was totally awesome!! I highly recommend for people with or without kids!

You are absolutely right, we should do better in informing you about what is happening, we are sorry about that and will strive to do better. The main reason why we sometimes change cars is performance, some cars are better than others and we want our best equipment running in harsh conditions. Good to hear that the snowmobile tour went as planned and that you enjoyed it. If you didn't go to the Ice Cave you are entitled to a partial refund. Could you send us a line to ice@mountaineers.is?

My friends and I booked this tour on a last minute decision. Originally, we were at Gullfoss, about to check out the waterfalls until a tour rep from the company approached us to asked if we were interested in the snowmobile and ice cave tour. And we were interested indeed. The tour itself took about 4 hours total. It takes one hour to get to the base and one hour back down to the Gullfoss parking lot. Our tour guide, Mr. Clean, was very nice and friendly. Mr. Clean was very professional and patient with everyone in the group. I would recommend this tour however, the ice cave is man made. Would of been nice if it was a natural one. The natural one melted away last summer. Snowmobiling is a lot of fun. Definitely have to try it once.

Thanks for your honest review, Jennifer. I'm so glad to hear that you took an on-spot decision to go, without any planning. That's a bold move! So glad to hear you liked everything about the tour except the Ice Cave, I think we did not inform you well enough that this was a man-made Ice Cave. I apologize for that. But thank you again for coming and giving us a lesson learned about informing our customers better.

1st, tour pick up was over 1 hour late after telling me someone would be there in 10 minutes. We could have explored the fall instead of waiting in the parking lot.
2nd, we were packed like cattle into a truck. It was over an hour ride to get to the ice cave and snowmobile excursion.
3rd, no ice cave tour and did a quick slow ride in a loop over old snowmobile tracks. Not the small group excursion we expected. I was told in their mind a small group was 60 people or so.

If you have never experienced snow or snowmobiling then this may suit otherwise stay away from this place. Focus seems to be more on headcount to make money rather than a great customer experience.

Dear Jerry, I'm very sorry to hear about your overall experience during our tour. Weather can sometimes be challenging during the winter season and can cause delays. Communication from our staff should have been much better. We offer private tours as well as Glacier Rush fast paced tours that are more expensive and have much fewer people We value your criticism and we will make sure to learn from this Best regards, Einar Mountaineers of Iceland
