About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- P5980UBluciem0 contributionsGreat experience, beautiful natureWe had a great experience. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The minibus was clean and comfortable. We got safely and comfortably to all the tour's locations and had a good amount of time in each spot. Every stop was so beautiful! Even just looking out the window while driving was enough for incredible views. We really enjoyed the tour and felt like we got to see a lot of beautiful nature that we couldn't otherwise have accessed (since we were not in a position to rent a car). If we come back we will definitely book a tour with Back To Iceland again!Written September 29, 2024
- KBeth000 contributionsTake this Golden Circle Tour!We just got back from our second trip to Iceland this fall which actually inspired me to write a review for our experience last year with BTI on our Golden Circle tour. We used a different company to take a Golden Circle tour this year and it was not nearly as good! You get to see the most variety on this tour of any Golden Circle tour I've seen, many only include Geysir, Thingvellir and Gullfoss but the Kerid Crater was one of our favorite parts! It feels like there's endless options for Golden Circle tours, but can say with great confidence you will love this route with Back to Iceland!Written September 11, 2024
- KBeth000 contributionsGreat day in West IcelandWonderful day out with Anton. This side of Iceland is massively underrated and we had such a nice day out seeing absolutely beautiful waterfalls, fjords and then relaxing at the Krauma Spa which was super nice. It's also much less crowded at least when we were there than the Sky Lagoon I'm sure because of its distance from Reykjavik. In general, would recommend this itinerary for anyone looking to go outside the "typical" tourist destinations and tours offered by so many other companies, this route was exactly as described, unique and would highly recommend.Written September 11, 2024
- katb1960 contributionsBTI - you do want to use them! There are many agencies that offer this tour - we decided on BTI based on Trip Advisor’s reviews - and we could have not been happier! Anton is truly an amazing guide, knowledgable, personable and so accommodating! Excellent and lively commentaries. Got to learn so much about Iceland! Definitely ready to get Back to Iceland again!Written September 11, 2024
- KarenR9170 contributionsGolden Circle Wonderful experienceThis was an absolute pleasure to take this 8 hour day tour! We saw so many different areas of Iceland - tectonic plates in a small shopping area, craters, waterfalls, Icelandic horses (don’t call them ponies!) tomato hothouse, fresh dairy ice cream, and walked between the tectonic plates! The whole day was wonderful !Written September 1, 2024
- dailypigeon0 contributionsQuick, efficient, and informativeWe needed an early shuttle to the Keflavik airport, and decided to use Back to Iceland for the simplicity and because we had the family and a family’s worth of baggage. The service has plenty of pick-up spots around Reykjavík, so we walked less than five minutes to the meeting place. The driver was there waiting for us, and our ride was smooth and efficient. We also got to hear some history about the places we passed along the way, and had a nice chat about tourism patterns in Iceland these days. All in all, we highly recommend!Written August 22, 2024
- Davidjellis0 contributionsGolden Circle & Kerið Day Tour by Minibus from Reykjavik (amazing private tour with Anton)Having booked this small group minibus tour ahead of our cruise, we were surprised to find out a couple of days before arrival that we were the only people booked on that particular trip. When we arrived we spotted Anton (our driver / guide) with my name on a piece of paper and he confirmed it was just us and we would be in a car with him. How cool. The real joy of having this private tour was that at every stop we could spend as much time as we wanted - Antanas (Anton) just told us to come back to the car when we were ready to leave each location. The tour itself was really cool...starting off with a drive through old lava fields and a short stop at a shopping area at Hveragerði where the American and European tectonic plates meet. We took photos where I was in Europe and my wife was in America! We next drove to the Kerið Volcanic Crater where we had some time to explore and take photos. Up next was a visit to the Friðheimar Green House, where we sampled some fresh tomato soup and freshly baked bread. They even had tomato beer and tomato ice cream but we skipped that! Next up was the immense Gullfoss Waterfall (which we visited before Geysir as the hot spring area looked very busy). After the waterfall we headed back to Geysir to see the hot water eruptions (roughly one every 4 minutes but some bursts were more powerful than others). Next was a stop at the popular Esftidalur II Farm where we saw ice cream being made (and sampled some) and we saw some Icelandic Horses and petted one. Our final stop was the Þingvellir National Park although we asked Anton to swing past the massive cathedral in Reyljavik centre before dropping us back to the cruise port. We were amazed when Anton stopped on a roundabout near the cathedral to rescue a stranded cat, moving the kitty to the pavement and then getting back in the car and carrying on the trip! It was an amazing day, with a superb guide and the flexibility to take the whole day at our own pace. Huge thanks to Anton and to Back to Iceland Travel for going ahead with our tour despite it being just the two of us. Such a special memory.Written August 21, 2024
- billfQ5822PC0 contributionsGreat tour that I would do again! The South Coast tour with took with Back to Iceland is one I would do again. Anton was a great tour guide, providing us with information about Iceland and stories that made the day educational and fun! Four waterfalls, Black Sand Beach and a Glacier top the list of sites you will see. We had time to explore and enjoy the scenery at each stop. Anton gave us recommendations on what exactly to see at each stop gave us background on what we would be seeing. Recommend you wear comfortable sturdy shoes as you'll be doing some walking. You'll have the chance to go behind a waterfall for an interesting perspective. You'll likely find rainbows around the falls if there is sun. I would recommend this tour with this tour company to friends and family!Written August 21, 2024
- billfQ5822PC0 contributionsGolden Circle Journey in Amazaing IcelandThis tour was amazing! The minibus was very comfortable and provided power to mobile devices as well as WIFI (extremely helpful when you forget to bring an adapter for your devices like I did). Our tour guide had extensive knowledge of Iceland and shared both facts and stories that made for a fun and educational day. We stopped at 7 stops where we had adequate time to explore and just take in all the sights. The food we were able to purchase on our journey was excellent. Highly recommend the Cinnamon Bun at the first stop (don't eat breakfast before you go) and the Lamb Soup at the Bistro in Gullfoss was outstanding (really recommend you try the local foods). When we get back to Iceland, we will be booking with Back to Iceland again and will definitely recommend to friends!Written August 21, 2024
- LadyAlyssia0 contributionsA good transfer companyUsed this transfer company to take us from the airport to our hotel in Reykjavik. Our drive was prompt and friendly. I would recommend this company if someone was looking for a transfer.Written August 20, 2024
- EdithRoosevelt0 contributionsTake this one! There are many individuals and companies that offer tours going to all of the scenic locations in Iceland; however, if you want a "sure thing." take this tour with Anton! What a joy. Anton is knowledgeable, personable, and just a delight as your personal tour guide. We recommend him without reservation!Written August 8, 2024

- BobW5510 contributionsGlorious Scenery, Amazing Experiences, and A Top-Notch GuideWe had high expectations when we booked the Private South Coast & Jokulsarlon Glacier Tour, based on the unusually engaging descriptions of the stops on the itinerary. And we were not disappointed! Our guide, Anton, picked us up on time and whisked us away for an unforgettable day of glorious scenery and unique experiences. Throughout our journey, he shared an interesting array of facts, insights into Icelandic life, and witticisms to hold our attention during the longer drives, and ensured there were plenty of restroom/snack stops along the way. We never felt rushed and were impressed that Anton managed to get us to most of the popular stops ahead of the crowds. The flexibility of the private tour enabled us to explore several delightful spots in addition to those advertised on the itinerary. We highly recommend this tour for any couple or family seeking an AMAZING way to experience the best that Iceland’s South Coast has to offer! Thank you, Anton!Written August 5, 2024
- A5199FGjasong0 contributionsGreat small group golden circle tour with knowledgable guideThis tour was the highlight of our iceland trip. This was the second tour we booked with Back to Iceland and, as it turned out, there were a few cancelations so we got our very own private Golden Circle tour. Our guide, Anton, was fantastic and gave us as much time as we wanted at every attraction we visited. He remebered what he had told us the previous day and avoided repeating information, and provided intesting information without being overwhelming. He also, on account of the tour group being just us added some other interesting stops including pointing out where Önnuhver (the garbage hot spring) was, as well as letting us pick where and when we wanted to grab lunch. This particular tour stopped at several places that some of the others did not which is why we chose it. As mentioned in my previous review, the minibus was good, with USB for charging and fairly reliable wifi. Would book with them again!Written July 13, 2024
- Hola9110 contributionsEnjoyable trip around Golden CircleAntoine was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable. Gave us plenty of time at each site so we don’t feel rush at all. Also stop at places we can get snacks in between (greenhouses that grows tomato and dairy farm). Enjoyed the trip immensely!Written July 5, 2024

Overall just a great trip. Guide was very informative, friendly, and helpful. Anton kept us informed us what was coming up made a few extra stops and adjusted as there were only 2 of us onboard. Even gave a few tips on eating places in Reykjavik. As well as along the way.
Patiently waited as i am a smoker so needed a few extra minutes here and there to have a smoke.
Thanks again Anton...

My extended family and I booked private tours from Reykjavik to Golden Circle, South Coast, and to Blue Lagoon through Back to Iceland. Attached photos are from all the different tours. We also booked all of our airport transfers through them. The owners and their other guides were all excellent! Cannot recommend them enough. They were prompt and provided a lot of information along the tour routes. The owner Anton was our guide for the South Coast tour and was especially great. Highly recommend Back to Iceland!

This was an excellent tour that me and my family really enjoyed. Special thank you to our guide who was not only very knowledgeable and taught us LOTS about Iceland, but he was also incredibly flexible with us with the time we spent at each spot, since there was no one else on the tour. We really appreciated him!! (I'm so sorry I don't remember his name but he was from Lithuania if that helps). We got safely and comfortably to each of the tour's destinations. The locations were actually not too crowded at all so we felt like we could really enjoy the beautiful nature and views. Every landscape and viewpoint we went to was so beautiful, we will remember our Iceland trip for a long time and a large part of this is thanks to Back to Iceland! :-)

Even though we booked a small group tour, it was just the 3 of us - so it was perfect VIP treatment from Anton and Back to Iceland Travel!
We had all the time we needed at each stop, and we were free to explore however we wanted.
Anton had a great sense of humour and gave us plenty of interesting information on the tour, but also gave us time to rest quietly - it was a perfect mix!
The South Coast is a MUST do in Iceland. Stunning scenery with a perfect guide!
Highly recommend Back to Iceland Travel.

We did a South Coast tour with Anton of Back to Iceland tour. It was the best experience ever. He was extremely knowledgeable and a wealth of information on Iceland and the sights we saw. Also they were very accommodating for the tour as our cruise ship was docking late in the morning and was able to fit our schedule. You could not ask for a better tour company/guide and we highly recommend Back to Iceland.

Excellent tour and tour guide. Very flexible and focused on our needs and choices. Extremely friendly and courteous from pick up to drop off. Tour content was excellent. The misty weather added to the very different landscapes this tour has to offer. Highly recommended.

We must have looked at dozens of tour operators prior to our trip, and I am so glad we settled on BTI Travel! Our day touring the South Coast with Hawk was perfect! We also thought long and hard about whether to tour the Golden Circle or the South Coast, and I am very glad we decided to avoid the crowds and do the south coast.
I could rave about the beautiful scenery, waterfalls, beaches, wildlife but everyone already knows about all of that or you wouldn't have chosen to go to Iceland, right? Instead I'll mention what set this tour apart.....
We were first off our ship (literally) and Hawk was already there waiting for us. He spent the extra time telling us about Reykjavik and stopping for photos until it was time to pick up the other two couples on the tour.
We had a set itinerary which wound up taking almost 12 hours, but Hawk still included many extras. He was always extremely clear about what we were seeing, where to go, and when to be back at the mini bus. At some stops he went with us to guide us, other times we explored on our own. During down time while we were driving, he gave us an in-depth view of life in Iceland and answered our millions of questions. I think Hawk responded to the fact that we aren't "typical" cruise ship passengers (we want to go places the rest of the ship doesn't) and wanted to give us the most thorough experience of Iceland that he possibly could in one day.
I had some specific things on my list I wanted to see and photo and I was able to get them all:
puffins - ✔
Icelandic horses up close - ✔
rainbow after a brief shower - ✔
There were rain ponchos in the vehicle, but bring a raincoat and jacket along and wear good walking shoes. Weather is famously changeable in Iceland, so it's good to be prepared. If you do the South Coast, you'll get wet going behind one of the waterfalls (don't miss!) but that is planned so you'll know ahead of time.
Since we were on a ship and didn't have time to look around Reykjavik on our own, Hark wanted us to see the city so he took time after dropping the other couples off to show us around. He stopped at the Hallgrímskirkja church and gave us time to go inside before taking us back to the ship. We really appreciated this little extra tour around town, because Reykjavik is a lovely city and I would have hated to miss it.
For the length of the tour and the places we went, the cost was very reasonable and it was like a private tour since there were so few of us. We are already talking about a return trip to Iceland and there is no doubt that we'll contact BTI again to take us the places we weren't able to go this time! Thank you so much for such a perfect day!

Visiting the South Coast with Anton as our guide was great!! The waterfalls were amazing, the sun shone and we got to see double rainbows. The lava formations and black sand beach were other-worldly. Anton was a terrific guide — providing lots of information, great sense of humor, excellent English and even understood our sarcasm. Took us to a great restaurant for lunch (delicious Arctic char), and is an excellent driver. He gave us as much time as we wanted to explore each of the sites. We highly recommend this tour.

Anton was amazing, we got a private tour when everyone else cancelled and we decided to take our chances on the weather and it all worked out and we got to see the most beautiful part of the country. I was very impressed with the beauty and Anton was an efficient driver who avoided the crowds and kept us well informed on everything. Thank you Anton!
