While the whole bus stop shuttle system timing can be confusing to a first timer in Reykjavik, it worked as expected, and we had a smooth pick up and delivery to the airport.
The bus from the main terminal to the airport was scheduled for 6:30 am departure. So, we walked with our luggage, the short distance to bus stop 6 at 5:45am, to await pick up by the Grayline shuttle that transported us (and others from various bus stops around the city) to the main terminal. The shuttle arrived at 6:10 am and got us to the terminal by 6:20 am. We waited there for ten minutes and left promptly at 6:30, arriving at the airport by 7:15, right on schedule. Bus driver was courteous and assisted with luggage at each end of the trip. We had ordered our tickets on line and the driver had our names in his computer when we got on the shuttle.
No hassle, easy trip.

Thank you paperweight811 for selecting Airport Express by Gray Line Iceland for your transfers. Glad to see that everything worked well for you. We try our best to explain the details that can seem confusing for the visitor but the main idea is to offer a scheduled departure with pickup from hotels and selected tour bus stops starting 30 minutes prior

We used Gray Line both ways between the Keflavik Airport and Reykjavik. Clean, efficient, on time, and affordable. What's not to like? The only thing you need to get used to is the system of meeting at pre-designated bus stops in Reykjavik to be transferred to the main bus terminal for the ride to the airport. No big deal. Just their system to minimize big buses idling and polluting the city.

From the airport after our 6 am arrival, we took a bus ride straight to the Blue Lagoon to relax. Then a few hours later, all clean and well-fed, we took another bus straight into Reykavik. Worked like a charm and put us near our hotel just about the right time for afternoon check in.

Please be aware that Gray Line will send you a confirmation email 24hrs before your airport transfer and the email states pickup time and departure time.
I booked a 9:30 collection at Bus Stop 13 and received an email confirming Pickup at 9am and Departure at 9:30am The bus left bus stop 13 at 9:13hrs. If I'd arrived at 9:20am the bus would have already gone and I would have missed my flight.
If you want to use Gray Line please be sure to arive 30 minutes before your departure times.

Thank you David R for writing your review. The 09:30 time is the departure of the airport transfer from our point of departure in Reykjavik. The pickup time at 09:00 means just that on your confirmation voucher, to be at the selected location at 09:00 It is truly unfortunate that you misunderstood this very important information and glad you managed to catch our bus in time.

I will not use Gray Line again as I nearly missed my flight because of the chaos with pick up time. I scheduled a pick up at 2 pm but the shuttle arrived at 2:15pm and stated that I wasn't on the list and if I had a pick up time of 2 pm I should've been picked up at 1:30 pm. There was never any notifications of any other pick up time. This could have been easily avoided if there were accurate instructions.
After getting picked up at 2:15 pm the bus drove around town to pick up other passengers. It even went back to earlier locations because people missed pick up times. We didn't leave Reykjavik until 3:15 pm, over an hour after my scheduled pick up time. This lack of communication and inaccurate pick up time can be fixed if the website had proper instructions. I will not support a company that deliberately disrespects people's time and causes unnecessary stress.

Gray line picked us up at Keflavik, and also dropped us back to Keflavik. When we arrived, approx 2pm, there was no bus or representative there, after being told that there would be. We rang Gray line who said that there would not be a bus until 3.30. Then half an hour later or so, a bus appeared. It seems like their organisational skills are severely lacking. I had the transfer booked months in advance and when I rang, the agent couldn't find my details anywhere, took him a few minutes to find them. When we eventually got on the bus, it was nice and warm and the driver was lovely. We were told that our pick up for our departure flight was 3.40am. but to be there about 10/15 minutes earlier, which we were. That was ok, we accepted this. So we walked to our bus stop and waited, in temps of -5 with a much lower wind chill, thinking we would get the bus around the assigned time. We waited, with others, until 4:15am, when the bus actually arrived. This was shocking, we were frozen. I would advise others to use another bus service, maybe flybus (who did arrive on time for their passengers). A dreadful service on the 2 occasions.

Thank you Liz F for writing your review. It is important for us to receive feedback from our passengers in order to verify and check what may have gone wrong as you seem to have had some difficulties with the transfers. We do have a schedule from the airport and depending on your flight arrival the departure will be booked. As it turns out and because you reached out to our staff and earlier non-scheduled transfer became available and sent for you. Glad you found our vehicle comfortable and in those cold days, warm. The return to airport transfer is also a schedule and seems some misinformation has occurred as we do not have a 03:40 departure but the first departure at 04:30 with pickup starting at 04:00 - very sorry about having to wait the extra unnecessary time as tour bus stops provided by the city are not very well sheltered if at all. I do hope that your visit to Iceland was otherwise pleasant

We booked the bus from a stop near where we were staying.
The time slot we selected on the website was 5.30am.
All booked and paid. Email confirmation even said 5.30am.
We got to the collection point at 5.10am with the understanding maybe the bus would come earlier due to other stops.
5.40am we called the company as we were going to be late for our flight if they took much longer.
Apparently the bus was there at 5am but we weren’t so left.
No call, no email, nothing.
We then had to get a taxi which cost £90, awaiting refund for the bus we never got.

Thank you 493amyt for writing your review. it is truly regrettable that you missed the shuttle sent for you. Selecting 05:30 departure of our airport coach from main terminal will also give you the pickup time from hotels and tour bus stops which is 05:00 - unfortunate that you missed noticing this very important information on your confirmation voucher

We had already booked our return trip to the airport ahead of time for 9/29 with Grayline over the telephone with a Grayline rep. We were to be at our stop by 4:15 am for 4:30 pickup; we were early and there before 4. Other airport shuttles came and went but no Grayline. One thing I would have to say the pickup shuttles were never late. When it is 4:45 and still no shuttle, I started to get nervous because it is at least a 45 minute drive to the airport and still have to check in and get through the lines for our flight and the clock is ticking. A kind gentleman tried to call the 24 hour phone number I was given for help for Grayline, he was never able to get through. My son had to run back to our hotel and the lady at the front desk was able to help him and get through to Grayline. For some unknown reason the person I had talked to before had written for us to be picked up on 12/29 instead of 9/29. Bad mistake!! Luckily they had an airport shuttle picking up people close by. I don't know how but we made it to the airport and got checked in with 20 minutes before I flight boarded for Copenhagen.

Beware that shuttles leave earlier than the stated departure time.
Gray Line will refer to their fine print that gives them a half hour pick up window, but will definitely depart before the scheduled time!
In our case, we arrived at 2.18p for a 2.30 departure, but the bus had left us stranded and left at 2.12p.
No e-mail, no phone call, despite all this being requested from passengers upon booking.
Instead of sending another car, all they did was to refer us to the next planned shuttle and make us miss our flights!
Cursing the horrible customer service, your only choice is to pay 120€ for a taxi!

Use another service and save yourself frustration!

252andr_w - It is truly unfortunate that you have misunderstood the booking confirmation voucher. If you select a departure time you will be given the pickup time as well. We collect passengers during this 30 minute window that is needed to go to various hotels and tour bus stops where clients have selected. It is required to be at the airport at least 2 hours before flight departure and it seems you have not allowed enough time for this either. It is regrettable that we were not able to accommodate you at the time you needed to be at the airport but at the same time it is of utmost importance to read the 2 sentence details on confirmation voucher

Oct 2018 • Friends
I have visited Reykjavik twice now, and my experiences with various tour companies have been excellent - until Grayline. I booked the airport express transfer for both my arrival and my departure. The arrival was okay, except it was very difficult to find the representative in the airport arrivals area (just one person in an orange vest with no sign or banner).

The departure was a complete nightmare. I booked the 3.30pm bus to the airport, for which I was told to wait at the Culture House bus stop from 3pm onwards. I arrived at the bus stop at 2.50pm, and sat, waiting. I saw multiple other tour companies arrive, collect clients, and leave, but there was no Grayline bus or minibus.

At 3.16pm I phoned the Grayline office to ask where our bus was - and was told it had arrived at the stop a few minutes earlier, collected two passengers, and left. I had been sitting at the correct bus stop (I checked multiple times, and I am experienced using Reykjavik tour companies). No such pick up happened, I 100% guarantee this. There was no Grayline bus. They were simply lying.

Even if (!) there had been a bus as they claim there was, the driver made no effort to phone me despite having my mobile number on file. The bus driver made no attempt to find me, despite me being on his list of customers who had PRE-PAID for this pick up. Grayline had zero interest in finding me, because they already had my money! If I miss the bus, I miss my flight, but Grayline doesn't care.

Instead, the operator told me to wait for the next bus (in one hour - thereby meaning I would miss my plane) or get a taxi. I was forced to order a taxi, which anybody who knows Iceland will know costs an absolute fortune. Would Grayline reimburse me for this extraordinary cost that was ENTIRELY their fault? Nope.

So -- I had to pay £90 to get to the airport that day. There was literally no other solution that would allow me to catch my flight on time. Grayline has never accepted my story of events, and insists their van was there, and that I was not. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! As I say, I've been to Reykjavik twice now and have done lots of tours, if anybody wants recommendations of better, more reliable companies, please get in touch and I'd be more than happy to help.

Thank you "wibbleypig2003" for writing your review. Truly unfortunate that you missed our shuttle sent to collect you from the location indicated on your confirmation. As we send out our shuttle that is equipped with GPS tracking system we can always verify its location, access the drivers list of names, who has been collected and who is missing. Our vehicle was on location at the given time and 2 passengers boarded, driver got out to load luggage and waited 5 minutes for you but had to move on to the next pickup location. It is regrettable that you were not at the given location at the agreed upon time and having to take a much more expensive option for your transport. When you contacted us a gesture of good will was extended to you to refund the unused tickets. I do hope that your visit to Iceland was otherwise pleasant.
