I discovered during my first trip that his company outsourced their trips to other companies who then actually pick you up and take you on your. I got little answers from company when I needed to change things. Instead I had to call the actual bus your company, which is different for each tour. The service we got from the When in Iceland team was great and I highly recommend them to anyone. We booked Southern Iceland tour, Snæfellsnes Peninsula Minibus tour and Reykjadalur hiking at a very good price. Because we booked 3 tours we got a discount on all the tours. Before we went to Iceland we heard that you must go to south Iceland to see all the waterfalls. This dream came true on the Southern Iceland tour. Snæfellsnes Peninsula is not as crowded with tourists as the south coast but it‘s absolutely wonderful as well. It‘s very different from the south coast but I definitely recommend going there. Reykjadalur hiking is such a unique experience. We are not experienced hikers but this hiking tour was absolutely perfect. And the hot springs at the top of the mountain were even more wonderful than the hike itself. I will 100% book some more tours with When in Iceland when I come to Iceland again (hopefully very soon).Written April 27, 2017

First, Iceland is big! We were overwhelmed with the number of activities to do in Iceland and wanted to get far from the crowds in the Golden Circle (but also get a chance to see the sites). My husband and I traveled with our adult children who are avid hikers and climbers, so we knew this needed to be an adventure trip. Heida at When In Iceland helped sort this out for us based on our interests and for a nominal fee. This is a family run business and they predominantly work by email. Heida was very responsive and detail-oriented.
We sought out the Westfjords as our destination after we landed in Keflavik, and our road map guided us to some very special spots within a short drive. Heida sent us maps, specific touring times and background on each destination. She had us stop at Glanni Falls and Paradise Hollow - and then onto a small, lesser known hot spring before we landed in Patreksfjord. The road trip gave us specific time between each stop and was as accurate as Google Maps. We spent three days touring the westfjords - hiking Latrabjarg Cliffs, the Red Sand beach (not to be missed), the Dynjandi waterfall, and more hot springs!
Our tour took us on another long-ish journey to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula - where we took in the magnificent lava fields, mountains, waterfalls and Djupalonsandur beach - not to be missed.
Our last day took us through the standard Iceland fare - Geysir, Gullfoss and Thingvellir. Beware - lots of people!
When In Iceland can come up with lists of restaurants and hotels, (and can make reservations) and have connections to Troll tours, who safely and knowledgeably guided us on a glacier hike and ice climb, as well as a Snorkel tour at Silfra through the tectonic plates - very cool, but be prepared for long waits in dry suits!
My only critique of the service is that it included "too much" for our brief stay and driving in the Westfjords is pretty challenging. So, be realistic when you get the map and prioritize what you want to do. Heida was more than happy to answer questions and redo the road map (which you can download on your phone) when we made changes. Also, check the time of year you are going. We made it to the Bird Cliffs (where Puffins nest, but leave in mid-August!) and were a little too early for the Northern Lights.
We cannot wait to return to see more of this magnificent country and would certainly work with When In Iceland again.

My boyfriend and I were planning our road trip around Iceland via the Ring Road by reading different blogs, books, getting advice from friends who have been. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the information and wasn't sure if what I was creating made sense or if it was even possible. Then I started following "When in Iceland" on Instagram and saw that they offered for $99 a Personalized Road Trip Itinerary. Exactly what we needed!
It was about 5 weeks before our trip when I contacted them. Heida contacted me and made things so easy. I sent her the itinerary I had been working on, the hotels we had booked for each night (When in Iceland will book your hotels for you) a description of who we were and what we wanted to do while in Iceland. (Basically hike and explore and see as much as possible)
Within a week, Heida sent us a 52 page detailed itinerary with everything we would see. This was amazing!!! She also sent us links to google maps for each day of our itinerary. We had asked for restaurant recommendations along the way and she sent us a restaurant recommendation for each town along the way. She also sent maps with the grocery stores and gas stations in Iceland. Heida also gave us great advice about things that we would not have otherwise known. She was available via email if we had any questions which was also very nice.
We booked two tours through When in Iceland, and since we had purchased the Personalized Road Trip we got the tours at a discount. I highly recommend the Glacier Hike!!

This plan consists of boilerplate pages that are assembled in an order that approximates requests made. It is not personalized. We specifically requested a minimum of waterfalls and got a plan with many.
Although this may be a good starting point, folks who use this service should be aware that considerable fine tuning of the document will be needed to make it truly personalized.

We decided to use When In Iceland to help plan our road trip as there was certain ‘definites’ we wanted to see but thought it best to get some inside help to make the routes work
And they did.... they were always available to go through any changes or offer any advice - and saved us so much time and headaches by planning our route

Anna at When In Iceland is so incredibly helpful. Not only was our personalized road trip amazing and helpful and time-saving, but she answered a lot of other questions for me as well. She also suggested Lotus Rental car and we were very happy with them. This services was well worth it and I would suggest it to anyone who is new to visiting Iceland. Anna relieved a lot of anxiety about the unknown on this trip. Thank you Anna!

I had initially heard about When in Iceland's services through their great Instagram account. I was in the process of planning a trip to Iceland and had a long list of places I wanted to visit but little knowledge of the country and how best to go about seeing everything. I got in contact with When in Iceland about their travel plans and was greeted with excellent service right from the start! They took my list of desired places and made us the most amazing travel plan. They made an itinerary for each day we would be there which included each destination, information about each destination, driving instructions and suggested camp sites for the night. They also included their own suggestions for things to see along the way that I hadn't included which was another step above and beyond what I expected. The plan made travelling around the island so easy and efficient and allowed us to enjoy our trip without any stress related to getting lost of time constraints. They also took the time to answer additional emails with questions we had throughout our trip and gave us tips to follow while we were there. I would definitely recommend When in Iceland to anyone that needs any guidance or assistance with their travel plans when visiting Iceland!

I don’t think I can overstate how helpful the road trip plan has been! We are on day 3 of our road trip and the information provided by When In Iceland has been absolutely spot on.
We did a lot of preplanning for this trip - not our usual way, because I wasn’t confident we could figure it all out while on the road. I’m convinced we made a good call there. With all of our accommodations precooked, we travel with confidence, and we don’t have to spend any time online or on the phone trying to book rooms.
Also, the personalized PDF of our itinerary has been accurate and very applicable. For our 10-day road trip it was 72 pages!!
There is so much to do here in Iceland, it’s nice to know we have a local’s perspective on what places and activities are those “must see or do” things.
Lastly, I’ll say that Heida (sorry, I don’t know how to make the little line through the D!) was very responsive to my emails as we were fleshing out the plan. This service was an excellent choice for us!

I went to Iceland last summer for a 12-day road trip. After researching a lot about the country and its wonders, I got completely lost on how to fit so many places in my schedule. That was when I got in touch with Heida and “When In Iceland” team. They did a great job and handed me a personalized road trip schedule with maps, tips on restaurants, secret spots, etc., from North to South, East to West(fjords). Heida was really kind and helpful and I had a great time in this amazing country. We drove more than 3000 km... totally worth it!

I would like to take a 9-10 day driving trip around Iceland seeing the natural wonders, Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon, waterfalls. I'd like to get a driving plan so we don't miss anything. Is there a trip where they plan if for you and hotels are included with suggestions on what to see along the way? If so, how much would it cost? Looking at the september time frame of 2020

My husband and I will be arriving at 8:30 am on September 14th and will fly out again on the 21st. How early do we need to plan our road trip and make hotel and car reservations? Also, I got a quote right off the page. Is that the total price or are there other costs?
