About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Becky W0 contributionsExcellent trip.We spent seven days in the south, southwest and west of Iceland. It was wonderful. Friendly people. Sparsely populated. Very quiet. Great roads. Everyone follows the rules of the road. Great seafood and lamb. Breathtaking geysers, waterfalls, with sheep and ponies everywhere. We would visit Iceland again.Written September 9, 2024
- N1560YKjohnb0 contributionsAn excellent Grand Tour of Iceland.Last month, I went on the 12-day grand tour of Iceland. I chose this tour because it went to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula as well as to the Westfjords. I had a brilliant time on the tour, despite the poor weather that Iceland was experiencing. This tour was capped off by seeing the latest volcanic eruption as I went on the flybus from Reykjavik to Keflavik to catch my flight home. The accommodation was very good, especially the apartment in Akureryi, which had its own hot tub. Ideal to use after a days travelling. I did also enjoy having breakfast in the cafe in the Botanical Gardens in Akureryi. The food in the hotels was really good too. For lunch we’d often combine a visit to a museum that also had a cafe. Ágúst, the driver/guide we had for the tour was brilliant. His driving, especially on the gravel roads in the Westfjords was so good. He showed us some really impressive sites that were off the beaten track & he’d stop so that we could take photos along the way. I’d happily go on another tour with Ágúst as the driver/guide. This was my 2nd Icelandic tour with GJ Travel. I’d highly recommend them for anyone thinking of going on an escorted coach tour of Iceland. I would certainly use them again.Written September 4, 2024
- tjackc19550 contributionsBest Tour of IcelandI'd done some research on Iceland and this included almost everything I'd listed to try and see, PLUS some I had no idea about. We'd also thought about just renting a car and going on our own, but having a driver / tour guide was WONDERFUL. We got to places I didn't know about, we learned a lot that I would not have found out about, and having a tour guide on the trip made a world of difference. I would HIGHLY recommend the Grand Tour of Iceland. We even made a few quick stops that were not on the Itinerary. Lunch was on our own, but we always stopped for lunch at places that had great selections. And dinners, which were included in the tour, we GREAT. Also a big shout out to our driver / guide! Martina was AWESOME and really made the trip 5 star.Written August 3, 2024
- 773stevee0 contributionsAn excellent and very special Icelandic experienceHad an awesome introduction to a beautiful country. Hotel accommodation was superb, tour bus was brilliant and our tour guide, Thor, was simply outstanding. Not only was he an excellent and highly-skilled driver, he was very knowledgeable, entertaining, funny, helpful, friendly and a great musician too. The trip was a birthday for me treat and definitely something to remember. Special moment when the full group and Thor sang Happy Birthday to me, courtesy of my daughter. The itinerary was very well-prepared, we didn't feel rushed and we visited so many beautiful places. Loved the whole trip from start to finish and I will be going back very shortly for another winter trip. Top marks to GJ Travel 👍👍Written January 25, 2024
- Natilda0 contributionsA good guide/leader made a perfect tripI thoroughly enjoyed myself. Our tour leader, Simone, is friendly, caring, and knowledgeable. Accommodations and breakfasts could have been better in some areas but that may be typical for Iceland. The bus could have been bigger but I totally understand it’s a good safe choice for a windy winter trip. All in all I highly recommend GJ Travel and Simone.Written January 24, 2024
- Buddy175600 contributionsExcellent tour and guide!Excellent tour covering many of the highlights of Iceland. We saw it all - glaciers, waterfalls, volcanoes, and, of course, the northern lights on a couple of nights. Our guide and driver, Simone de Greef was wonderful. Not only is she an excellent driver, but she is extremely knowledgeable about everything “Iceland”, from folklore to history to language. She is an accomplished photographer who helped us all as we tried to capture the “lights” and she was very patient and helpful with our tour group.Written January 18, 2024
- siewl4390 contributionsAmazing tour of Iceland ❤️We had an amazing holiday in Iceland! So much to see and we were treated to several nights of stunning displays of the Northern lights. Many thanks to Simone de Greef, our driver/tour guide who kept us entertained and safe during the trip. She made sure we had a great time and impart her knowledge of volcanoes, geysers, hot springs, culture, and most importantly loved her story telling! Met interesting people in the small group. Highly recommend this tour!Written December 25, 2023

- ct7820 contributionsNice trip but too fastWe booked this tour through tourradar . We were with GJ Travel for 3 of the 5 days and it was excellant. Our guide was August and our driver was Christian. Every day was packed with wonderful things to see and oppertunity to do more physical things. This is a truly beautiful country and we were lucky enough to have little rain every day. Our entire group got along well and were punctual about leaving on time from different locations.Written October 28, 2023
- dianalQ2314RE0 contributionsNot reputableThe trip that I signed up for was "5 Amazing Days In Ilulissat". Tour date Sept 26-30, 2023. I need to clarify that my tour guide Alma was great and she was very sweet and helpful. My issues have to do with GJ Travel and the fact that they did not provide me with all the excursions they posted in their itinerary, but they still charged me for the full price of the tour. The itinerary posted had daily excursions for the entire 4 days that I'm in Ilulissat, but my final itinerary had one free day. I was informed ahead of time by the company that the full day excursion to Eqi Glacier do not run at the end of September, and that they would replace the cruise with other activities. They never provided me with alternative activities. I found out that the cruise to the glacier was still operating by another company and the only reason why it was not included in my tour is because Alma was leaving Ilulissat to fly home on the day in question. Alma offered to book the cruise independently for me but it would mean I had to pay for the cruise out of my own pocket when it should have been included in the tour price. GJ Travel should have been honest with me about the whole situation about Alma leaving before my tour was scheduled to end. At the very least, they should have given me a discount and I could pay for the cruise myself separately.Written October 7, 2023
- ScottTravel250 contributionsGreat Tour - Highly RecommendedDid the Land of Northern Lights Tour. The tour guide August was very friendly knowledgeable and always went out his way to spend time with the group and give us as much information about the Northern Lights as possible. Drive Christian was great too… making sure we got to each stop safely and warm! Great tour. Highly recommended. Book direct with them instead of going through On The GoWritten October 7, 2023
- Baroness530 contributionsAN ABSOLUTE MUST!This tour must have been extended now as our's was 10 days/11nights. Still it was the best I have ever been on. It was pretty 'full on' time-wise with so much to see in the 10 days so I'm glad they have added an extra day or so. Magnificent scenery: jaw-droppingly huge waterfalls, mountains and landscapes showcasing Mother Nature's awe-inspiring vastness. Many, many fabulous experiences: a boat ride among massive icebergs, a luxurious spa in a hot-spring plus being up close and personal with masses of puffins to name only a few. All this as well as excellent food and accommodation. Our Guide/Driver Martina was an encyclopedia of knowledge whether it was mythology and culture, the geology and geography of Iceland or just day to day life. She transported us around this amazing country sprouting facts and figures mixed with the perfect blend of humour and warmth of personality. Her number one priority of course was always our safety and comfort and this was conveyed in the way she kept an eye on every individual during our 'stops' and was particularly mindful of those who were not as robust as the rest of us. Additional to this was her extraordinary skill as a driver, particularly on some of the hazardous roads. I genuinely feel we had THE BEST OF THE BEST and would highly recommend this company for this tour.Written July 21, 2023

- brendahL2492HW0 contributionsA study in black and WhiteI was delighted with our guide and most accommodations. We did not have a welcome or farewell dinner and the van was cramped and uncomfortable. There only should have been 12 in the vehicle. Toilet stops were far apart and no toilet on bud.Written April 8, 2023

We just got home from our tour and we had a great time! Simone was our tour guide and she was very knowledgeable about everything Iceland. She knew so much it was amazing. And she was fluent in Icelandic, Dutch and English. We had a small group of 6 which was perfect, especially with the COVID concerns. Simone expertly handled the one member of our group that wanted the tour to be all about him. We were able to see so much in such a short time. Tell Simone, thanks from Carol and Rick!

Such a lovely tour around Iceland. Got a little bit of everything—it was the perfect length and never too tiring. Easy and efficient traveling. Our guide, Martina, was absolutely amazing. She cannot be praised enough for her knowledge, attitude, and constant friendliness/helpfulness.

Absolutely excellent Iceland circular tour with Hlif our driver guide. Good range of sites to visit to get a real flavour of Iceland. Good hotel choice for single night stops.
Hlif gave us ample time at all the sites visited. Good food in all hotels plus the lamb stew/soups at the gas stations was a bonus. Thanks Hlif!! Well paced plenty of comfort stops, We're that old. All the airport transfer worked(Flybus)
We didn't miss the WiFi that failed on the coach. You can't see Iceland whilst looking at a screen anyhow.
Thoroughly recommended.

I coordinated a trip to Iceland for twelve adventurers. Met at the airport by Thor of GJ Travel, the adventure began immediately as Thor drove us to our hotel.
We began our travel the next morning. Fortunately, Thor was both our driver and guide. Thor was well acquainted with the beauty of Iceland and showed the same enthusiasm as we explored his beautiful country. We went to many “off the road” locations to visit waterfalls, craters, glaciers, animal / bird rich sites, and scenic overlooks. He shared with us extensive history and the sagas of the country he loves. Thor is a nature enthusiast and took many pictures of nature and members of our party. He shared those numerous photos with all in our tour via link. On one leg of the circumnavigation of Iceland, we encountered a flat tire. Even that was turned into an unexpected adventure enjoyed by all.
Thor was also most helpful during a medical emergency.
In all respects, Thor was a true enthusiast like us. I am already planning another adventure to include the West Fjords for next year and will insist that Thor be our guide. Billy & Karen Moore, Off the Beaten Path tours, Virginia Beach VA.

This tour was amazing and my friend and I were nothing but lucky during our time in Iceland. The weather was incredible (always sunny!) and our guide Thor was great and really made the trip memorable by sharing fascinating insights about Iceland and always answering to our sometimes very specific questions. Thor also managed to go with us on a Northern Lights’ hunt and it was an incredible night.
We definitely recommend GJ Travel (and Thor) and we would book with them again!

My husband and I did this group tour with friends. Total party size was 10. Our guide and bus driver Hallthor was most excellent! He really made the trip memorable by sharing the history, geology, sociology, current events, biology, lore and culture of Iceland. He was enthusiastic, and patient & flexible with the needs of the travel party. He went extra efforts to obtain and personally return my husbands camera left at a stop. The trip was quick paced; indeed 3-4 hours on a bus but many stops to view sites. The geology of Iceland is amazing and Hallthor explained it all with ease. We have so many mountains, craters, fissures, caves, ocean, tiny villages, etc in this overview isn’t he country. The Lava Center was an excellent museum about volcanos. One day we encountered a snowstorm and very high winds that delayed our trip by half a day. Hallthor worked to find decent place to have lunch, and an unplanned private tour of Fish Factory Artists residence and studio. It was interesting to hear stories of life for local and traveling artists. Also several opportunities were provided to see Northern lights, and indeed we were successful. we stopped for an interesting tour of a tomato hothouse, and ice cream where you can watch the dairy cows. I recommend GJ Travel and would book them again #GJTravel #GuidedIcelandCircle #RingRoad

I was amazed at how beautiful the country is! Our guide, Simone de Graff, was very pleasant, informative, patient, accommodating, fun, and helpful with putting on clamp-ons for walking on ice. I may return to see what Iceland looks like in summer.

7 nights/8 days. We were a couple joined by four others with our tour guide, Erin (English spelling) who was knowledgeable, friendly, punctual and went out of her way to accommodate the group. We felt we had a personal guide throughout the week. The coach was comfortable and Erin made frequent breaks.
Itinerary - Excellent. We were out of the hotel around 9 am most days (a couple of earlier days) and at our next hotel by 4-4.30 pm most days. We made a couple of unscheduled stops including a nighttime northern lights junket which was the only opportunity we had to see them due to weather conditions. Good walking shoes and rain/winter gear are a must. It was quite windy (strong enough to push you over) in a few spots. There is a lot to do/see in Reyjevik. We did the 'free' walking tour which is highly recommended.
Hotels - Variable. The Icelandair Natura in Reyjevik was the planned first and last night hotel. Luckily, they switched the whole group to the Marina hotel downtown the first night which was a 'superior' grade and the difference showed the rest of the week. The last night was still the Natura and it is not acceptable for anyone wanting to get into the city. The dinner option was limited to an expensive buffet and there are no other dining options within walking distance. There is construction going on all around the hotel. The other Icelandair hotels were fine - basic accommodation, no amenities/facilities, good breakfast buffets. We tried to go to the public swimming pools whenever possible which were great. Bring your own towel. The 'independent' hotels were a mixed bag. Hotel Hofn and Hotel Sel-Myvatn had better than average food options, although the latter's beds were quite soft. The second-last hotel, Hotel Eyafjallajokull had a very limited breakfast buffet although the evening meal before was quite good. Typical 'tourist class hotel' means no in-room amenities (except a kettle), basic accommodation with typically one restaurant and no other facilities.
Dining - Of course, it's on your own and is quite expensive by Canadian standards. Most hotel dining rooms offered fish plus meat options and a few specialties like langoustines in Hofn. Burgers were always available. Not much for vegetarians/vegans. Lunch options on the road were also more limited. We brought some cheese and crackers. Duty-free alcohol is available in arrivals at Reyjevik airport and we bought some excellent Icelandic beer which we then brought with us. (No bar fridge in the room but we reverted to student days and hung them outside our window in a bag).
Transfers - Chaotic! We arrived at Reyjavik airport and waited almost 30 minutes for the FlyBus that goes to the bus station then waited another 15 minutes for the 'pink route' shuttle to go to our hotel. As mentioned, the first night was downtown which was worth the wait! The return transfers to the airport went more smoothly.
Money - Credit/debit cards are accepted everywhere - even small convenience stores and the public pools. It is not worth getting Icelandic currency.
Tipping - Generally not needed since service is added but it would be good to have better direction about tipping the tour guide. We did.
Highly recommended.

Dear Gary,
It is with pleasure that I am reading your lovely review of our tour and tour guide Eyrún - this is the correct spelling ;)
Regarding the various points in your feedback, I would like to stress that the transfer part was not operated by GJ Travel but by a supplier.
I laugh when I read you were hanging your beers in bags through the hotel windows. We usually use a brook when camping and keep the beer in a bag with a stone in it to cool off :)
More seriously, I read thoroughly your comment about the hotels and will revert to our product Team to see what we can do for future reference.
I will gladly share your review with the whole GJ Travel Team. Thanks for trusting us in making your Iceland vacation memorable.
Best wishes
