For 3 days we were mostly off-road with Mani Asgeirsson, our fabulous guide. Riding in the largest Mercedes 4-wheeler imagineable. We learned A LOT about the geology - the unique configurations because of the America and Europe tectonic plates (think the Wall in the Game of Thrones). We snowmobiled across Langjokull Glacier, walked along the rainbow-hooded Gullfoss waterfall that plummets more than 100 feet into a rugged canyon, the famous tomato greenhouse, Fridheimar, and the Icelandic horse demonstration. Plus - fabulous food stops, black-sand beaches, off-roading through rivers and up volcanic rock hills. Mani - our guide - was fun, athletic, intelligent and articulate, and we can't wait to work with him again. Someday soon, we hope!

Last June we stopped in Reykjavik on our way home from the UK and were there for 48 hours. Mountain Taxi was such a great way to spend the full day we were there! Our daughters were 12 and 9 and our guide, Bekki (sp?) was wonderful with them. He was knowledgeable and funny, and spoke English perfectly. We saw all the golden circle sites in addition to going on top of a glacier! We could fill our water bottles with glacier water and our daughters were just talking about that the other day. I can’t recommend this tour more, and I’m sorry I’ve been so delayed with it!

So for our honeymoon, my wife and I decided to come out to Iceland for the winter, in hopes that we might see the Northern Lights. We stayed in Reykjavik the first few days, and slowly everything was getting cancelled due to the crazy blizzards and weather. When we were ready to go drive down to Vik, Kristjan picked us up in his truck and single handedly saved the entire trip. He was very friendly, incredibly knowledgeable about the history of everything with Iceland and knew all the best spots to see. Importantly, he was extremely safe on the treacherous roads, and highly experienced with any of the weather and conditions that faced us. More importantly, he had made our desire come try by helping us see the Northern Lights. I am now convinced that the Northern Lights are not based on luck, but perseverance of the cold weather, and patience for breaking in the cloud cover, as one night Kristjan casually remarked, "I think we will get the lights tonight" and he was right. Do yourself a favor, and do not bother with renting a car, you will likely get trapped on the side of the road, while someone else is having an amazing experience with Mountain Taxi. 30 years of experience will make a huge difference, even if you have him booked for just 3 hours.

What an amazing experience. Travelling through such an amazing landscape with a man who knows and understands it so well. We learned so much. No question went unanswered from power station design to glacial erosion and from Sagas to Nobel Laureates. Local knowledge at its best from a man who has explored and experienced so much. The truck itself was amazing..comfortable stylish and able to reach the most unlikely and beautiful places. Thank you Kristjàn for such a great day. We were lucky to have you for the day..

Kristjan picked us up at our hotel in Old Town in a super comfortable 4x4, and deftly navigated the snowy streets of Reykjavik as we made our way out of the city. Our ride along the Golden Circle was warm, comfortable, and informative, as we engaged in an easy conversation about…well, everything. Kristjan has been conducting tours for over 30 years - before it was as cool of a destination for tourists. He’s seen so much change in that time, and has so much experience taking people all over Iceland in so many different ways, he’s a trove of information. He is the authentic tour guide. Seasoned. Experienced. Prepared. Easy to talk with. Excellent advice in navigating our stops. On the unpaved road to Langjökull, when the snow got deep, a souped-up Sprinter from another tour got stuck in the snow. Kristjan was able to go around them, off road, in fresh snow, to get us back on track again. I felt very safe, that his vehicle could get us anywhere we wanted to be! We had the very best time on this private tour. Sure, it can be fun to be with other travelers in larger tours and associate with other foreigners as you make new discoveries - the downside is that your experiences are standard, not unique, and you a can become lost within a sea of people. This tour was pricier than others, yet we absolutely got 10X return on our investment with the special experience of personal service that we enjoyed together as a family. He has made custom trips as well, and when we return, we are definitely going to work with Kristjan again.

Amazing must do experience when in Iceland. We had a fantastic trip over 2 different days with Kristian. He was incredibly friendly, knowledgable and a very safe driver in a huge truck in snowy conditions. He adapted our tour as we went along making the most of our time and adjusting to weather conditions. We would Highly Recommend.

Do not go to Iceland without first booking Mountain Taxi - Iceland!! It is the only way to see Iceland, the drivers are very friendly and helpful. They were an absolute pleasure to deal with. We hired a superjeep for the day (family of 4 - kids are 13 and 10) because I fancied a day off driving and we figured a big 4x4 could get us to some interesting places. We were absolutely blown away by the experience. Kristjan picked us up on time from our hotel in a hilariously massive custom engineered hulk of a truck. We couldn't stop laughing at first. We spent the next 9 hours awestruck by the volcanoes, mountains, waterfalls and moonscapes of Hekla, Landmannalaugur, and Fjallabaki. Kristjan was friendly, funny, informative, and great with the kids. He was constantly tailoring the trip to our needs and pace. We did a couple of mini hikes (one at, fairly crowded, Landmannalaugur and one in a spot so quiet, remote, and beautiful that we could not believe it). I couldn't have hoped to tackle even a third of the trip in my rental SUV. It was the highlight of our 12 night trip to Iceland. Faultless.

Myself, my husband and our two boys (11 & 12) spent three amazing days on private tours with our fantastic guide, Gisli. We did the South Coast, Golden Circle and In a Nutshell tours and they all included great content/locations. Gisli was incredibly knowledgeable about the landscape and history of the country and an all-round great guy/guide! The experience of touring Iceland in our 'monster truck' was just brilliant and highly recommended by the whole family!
