Overview
Catching sight of the northern lights while in a populous area can be more difficult due to the bright city lights. Head out into the Icelandic countryside's darkness during this guided tour with round-trip transport from Reykjavik. Your guide finds the best spot for viewing the aurora borealis, giving you a better chance to view the light show than if setting out alone.
What to Expect
Your evening begins with pickup at your Reykjavik hotel by small car or minibus. From there you’ll head out deep into the darkened countryside where your tour guide will scout the sky for the first signs of the aurora borealis.

When your guide finds the best place for viewing the northern lights, you'll have plenty of opportunity to get out of the car to view and snap some photos of the dancing lights. Make sure to dress warmly and bring along a few extra layers since you will be standing outside to view the lights.

Although your guide takes you to a location with the best chance of viewing the northern lights, seeing them is not guaranteed. If you don’t get to see the lights on your tour, don’t worry; you’re welcome to join another night’s tour free of charge.

Your northern lights tour ends with a drop-off back in Reykjavik.

Once in a lifetime!

This was the first tour that we booked that had a small group (since we had previously booked with larger companies), and I must say it was amazing! I was a little skeptical at first since we were picked up in a black van with...More

Amazing experience

Despite an initial delay during which our hotel receptionist made two calls to the organisers, Sterna, to ensure the trip was still on, this was an incredible experience. Our guide took us to to three locations until happy that we were in a spot where...More

Mother nature played her hand ...

Makrem collected us promptly from Reykjavik city centre before "the chase" began. Our forecast for sighting was extremely low but on our second attempt, and his skill at spotting the slightest change in the night sky, we were able to photograph a green hue .......More

Hard to score when cloud cover meant it was a wasted trip

It's the risk you take with a natural phenomena, but when there's cloud cover, the truth is it's a waste of 4 hours and the money. Seems the weather forecast beat all the tours the night we went. So what you end up with is...More

Dear Oatsy, Thank you for shearing your experience with others. In some points you are right, the Northern Lights tours its a weather depending tour, and we are all depending on weathers forecasts. In some days (and it happened in your day) the weather forecast...More

Never saw anything!

Although our guide tried to find the lights, we really did not see anything significant. We were offered to go again the next several nights by the tour company too. However, the next night was canceled and the next two nights had no sightings. Too...More

Hi We stayed at The Center Hotel which was directly next to bus stop 13 where we were picked up. I guess some hotels would have a short walk but we also picked up at the Hilton and another large chain hotel (cant remember... More

It’s very unpredictable, but if you look at the lunar calendar and the Iceland aurora forecast (only predicts 3 days ahead of time), you can have a better idea of what you might get. Don’t let the weather forecast scare you... More
