      Fun Escape Room!
Our family (two adults, one 10-year old, one baby strapped to the back 🤣) has done escape rooms all over the world and we had a great time at this escape room! It's definitely an older style room - no fancy gadgets - but still a clever collection of puzzles to be solved. One thing that I'll say is that this room is probably not a good fit for somebody who hasn't done a lot of escape rooms. I can definitely see newbies getting stuck early on and feeling pretty discouraged. We ended up needing a couple of clues at the end and made it out right before the hour. Their way of giving out clues with the phone worked well and we got help both times very promptly. Other quick notes: Everything is in Icelandic and in English; there are nice clean bathrooms to go to before/after; just as a FYI, they do actually *lock* you in the room (though they provide an emergency key to get out if you need to).

Very disappointing - poor design and poor support
We did the Bank Heist escape room. We normally love escape rooms, and enjoy trying out a new one when we're on holiday - but we still need a clue or two to keep us moving! We hit a bump about 20 minutes in, and requested help on the clue phone several times, but got no response until 55 minutes in (with five minutes left to play), so spent half our time there bored and frustrated. Ironically, the only thing that kept us moving for a while was that the host hadn't got rid of the previous team's working, and they'd cracked one crucial clue we hadn't! Perhaps you'd be fine if you can manage without clues. However, some of the puzzles were also poorly designed - we were able to use one key to open a box it was not designed for (and not its original box) - so even the best puzzle solvers are likely to hit a dead end or two. I should say that at 55 minutes the host finally responded to us, and offered us extra time "as there'd been an issue with the clue phone"; but the quality of support improved for one minute when he noticed us at our wits end, and then immediately fell away again. We cut our losses and gave up. A really disappointing experience.

      Poor experience
We booked to the ESCOBA escape room and was not the best experience. As we walked into we was not greeted and asked to wait for another group to arrive to follow rules - this other group was for another room and were not English speaking so the rules and game info was given twice. Once finished we entered the room to start the game, we was told to Message on the phone in the room for help, when we got to a hold and needed help our first few messages were ignored so we tried to call this was then declined. Later we received a call and was given the clue, at this point we was quite disappointed. Another hold we asked for help by call again as we this was the way to get through to them - on the call we was told "can I call you back in a minute I am just busy sorting something" this was from our host! Three minutes later we receive the call. On the phone the attitude was not appropriate and made this experience terrible. Lastly towards the end of the game out codes/ clues didn't match up as the wrong padlocks were not working or they was not working right and very very stiff. We would not recommend this and most certainly would not be going back again!

      Overcharged and ignored
The experience was alright although shaded by the fact that a fault in one of the room's puzzles prevented us from solving it. However, we noticed afterwards that our group was overcharged which in and of itself doesn't matter, but after getting in contact with Reykjavik Escape, they (their CEO) have acknowledged their error but seem to be ignoring our multiple emails now. This kind of customer service really colors the overall in experience in bad light making this a place I would not recommend.

Awesome room & staff especially Thelma
I love escape rooms and did the “Dollhouse” which was challenging but winnable! Truly the staff really made the experience for use especially THELMA. Huge shout out to her! She was so kind, explained everything well and willing to help us no matter the question. Definitely recommend for a good time !

      Great fun in Reykjavik
What a great time! The room was well thought out and executed, and while there were just the two of us, it could have still been beaten if we hadn't missed an obvious clue. And the hosts are excellent, very friendly and helpful. When you're in Reykjavik, find some time to do one of these rooms!

      Definitely worth a visit!
We arrived at Reykjavík Escape yesterday at 12pm for the first escape of the day and it did not disappoint! The staff were very informative & friendly. The room was slightly outdated but we still had a great time. Unfortunately we didn’t escape but there’s always next time!

      Fun but basic
The rooms (Taken & Scientist) look basic/outdated, though the escaping is still fun. Because of a mistake in our first room (due to a technical problem) we got offered to do a second room. Very nice of the staff! We enjoyed it a lot but compared to our few escaperoom experiences back home (Netherlands) the setting was very basic

Not a good or enjoyable experience...
We booked this as a family fun activity for a rainy day in Reykjavik and it was anything but ! The assistant forgot to give us one essential item to enable us solve the puzzle - a torch ! We were using the light from the mobile phone and it was extremely stressful as someone had to swipe the screen every 10 seconds. When we got into the second room, it was impossible to see the hidden clues without a torch, and it was only then, with 15 minutes left that we had to call the help button and the assistant realised he had not given us the necessary torch. Even with the torch, the final clue may possibly make sense in Icelandic, but it is very unclear and confusing in English. This needs to be rewritten. Overall, what was meant to be fun activity ended up being stressful. This is not what you need on holidays. They offered us a voucher to come back, however as we were leaving the next day, this was useless. I asked to speak with a manager who agreed to a refund. At least they had the professionalism to agree to this.

      Very well done
My wife and I have completed nearly 20 Escape Rooms now with varying quality, and this is one of the better ones. The Mafia room was well laid out with a good mix of puzzles and a few nice surprises (which I won't mention here). It was relatively expensive for an Escape Room, but no more inflated than the rest of Reykjavik prices compared to the UK. There is a 20% off voucher in the tourist coupon books that many places have (cafes, hotels etc) so if you can find one of these it'll save you about £10.

      Good but worn out
The room was fun but everything in the room is extremely worn out and needs a touch up! It was hard to read some clues because the text was almost gone.

definitely recommend - we had so much fun!
When I heard about this I could not imagine how much fun it would be. I went with colleges from work the first time. We had so much fun so I booked again for me and my boyfriend and 1 other couple. Definitely recommend if you are looking for something fun todo, doesnt matter how small or big your group is.

      Good entertainment
We were visiting Ísland and we love doing escape roooms, so we had to do one of them!! We chose Hangover because they told us it was the longest one (or one of), but it wasn't very difficult (as they also said). Althought it was fine and had some good puzzles, it had too way many padlocks (as we are now very used to new technologies) it wasn't a fancy room (as taken cared or made with love; or this is what we felt). However, we don't regret doing it.

      Prison break
This was my eleventh escape room (8th venue), which I did with my hubby and two friends. The room itself was ok, but this was the most disappointing venue I've been to. It had a cheap feel to it, like trying to have the least amount of staff available. I think I heard a member of staff say that each GM had 2 or 3 rooms to watch, and the briefing was done for all 6 rooms at the same time! So each participants got the story for 5 rooms that he was not attending! Due to this the briefing did not start until the last participant was there, like 8.10 (we should have started at 8). Would recommend they start the rooms at diffirent times to be able to give a more personal experience and thus more fun. And it is also the most expensive ER I've been to.

Our family enjoyed another Escape room while on vacation. The Scientist had some challenging puzzles and well laid out story line. It was a 2nd Generation escape room and we were able to complete it in 32 minutes without any clues. Had a lot of fun working together and solving these puzzles.

I missed the advice of a previous reviewer. Some props, (cubes), are unusable because they are worn, we wasted a lot of time trying to read numbers that were illegible . The host cautioned us, “Don’t rely on me, I really don’t care if you make it out in time”. Kinda set a tone. Would be a very good room if not so worn.

Hi Jon. We're truly sorry that this was your experience - that's definitely not what we aim for. We've had a talk with our employees in this regard and will continue to make sure this does not happen again. We've also went through the props in the room and switched out everything that has gotten worn out including the aforementioned cubes. If you're still in Iceland we would like to offer you to come back and try out another game on us - the way the experience should be. If not - next time you're in Iceland don't hesitate to give us a call and we would gladly have you back. Thank you for your review - it will help us better serve future customers. All the best, - The Reykjavik Escape team
