About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- ellencZ8841GU0 contributionsHighly recommendedWe really enjoyed our walking tour. It was so interesting. The tour guide was early which was fantastic. He was enthusiastic and we highly recommend this bookingWritten November 10, 2024
- rizzie580 contributionsDisappointedThe presenter was unkempt, dirty jacket, poor hygiene. Not a good way to represent your company. He was dismissive, rude. He made no attempt to engage the group in a fun interactive way. I am in my late 60's and get around well. However, he walked so fast, didn't acknowledge my pace, and I was literally block and a half behind the group. He took no attention to that at all. I was ready to leave the group, however some roadblocks in his route caused him to change direction and I caught up. Very disappointed. I will not recommend this tour to anyone. He could have done so much better if he didn't present as rude and inconvenienced.Written November 10, 2024
- melissamD3003ER0 contributionsGreat chat with a localWe had a private tour Arnar who took us to 3 different bars in Reykjavik. He gave us a history of beer/drinking in Iceland and picked out various beers for us to try. We were able to ask him questions about life in Iceland and he gave us great recommendations about what else to do in Iceland.Written November 8, 2024
- LMoy0 contributionsA couple’s tourMaybe it’s more a reflection of us that the tour. Einad was a great guy and entertaining. But we were cold and were hoping to see more of the main sights rather than purely historical points of interest. We are too energetic and switched off so probably needed something more to keep our attention. As I say- it’s more about us than the tour but we just thought it was ‘ok’. XWritten November 8, 2024
- Passport058072861610 contributionsCultural Cuisine with an Icelandic VikingKnowledgeable Icelandic guide with extensive historical roots took us through a most enjoyable afternoon exploring Reykjavik. Each stop was well planned with reserved seating and pre ordered dishes. Traditional Icelandic food. The self described 110% Icelandic Viking shared his family history with stories and memorable anecdotes. Would highly recommend this tour for food lovers and anyone with a cultural inclination.Written November 5, 2024

- D9828JFgailp0 contributionsA great introduction to ReykjavikExcept for dropping our suitcases off at our AirBnB, taking this tour was the first thing we did in Reykjavik and we are glad we did. I took this tour with my two adult daughters and a small group of American tourists. We met Ester E at a central location and then headed off for a brisk walk around the city. We visited the harbor, the main shopping street, saw many of the sights including a view of the Hallgrimskirkja (welcome to long Icelandic place names) and had our pictures taken on the rainbow street. Our guide talked about the history of Iceland, explained how everyone is related in this small country, and talked a lot about food. We tried two kinds of soup, had an Icelandic hotdog (made with lamb), tried fermented Greenland shark, had dried fish flakes, volcanic salt, several varieties of licorice and enjoyed other Icelandic treats. We ended the tour with a small shot of Brennivin, the Icelandic spirit. It was a great orientation to the city and a great way to sample dishes we might not have tried on our own. Our guide, Ester E, was charming and took good care of us. A highly recommended tour.Written October 28, 2024

Not only was Einar so knowledgeable about Icelandic folklore, but he added in voices and songs that took the stories over the top. Had a great walk with Snædís in a typical cold Icelandic afternoon. I ended up being the only person so I had a private tour. We walked around the city center and Snædís will stop at different locations and tell you all the secrets and tales of the city, culture, history and language. I learnt a lot and feel like I can properly talk about the city like locals - just kidding! Also you will get a couple pictures taken and receive recommendations on restaurants to try. Highly recommended!!

We could not recommend this walking tour of the city more. Our guide, Esther, was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. She walked us all over the city explaining the history, culture, and providing interesting anecdotes. This walk is a must to start your visit to Iceland as you will recall and use the information learned numerous times as you travel about.

We had a fabulous time on our walking tour with Bardi Gudmundsson. Our group was small - only 4 people. Bardi's pace was perfect. He was personable, interesting, and very friendly. Even though this was our third visit to Reykjavik, we learned many new things from this tour. Highly recommend this tour as a way to start off your trip - to get oriented to the city - though it would be enjoyable at any point along your stay!

We arrived in Iceland jetlagged but excited to begin our visit to this magical country! To get our bearings, our first adventure was the "Walk with a Viking" tour, with Your Friend in Reykjavik. Our guide was the amazing, enthusiastic PERLA, whose energy buoyed us on our walk.
Perla showed us around major historical sights like the elf stone in the old section and Parliament; City Hall with its huge map of Iceland; the Harpa concert hall, open to the public with great restrooms (her pacing was well-timed); the most famous hot dog stand in town (really!); the harbor where we could book boat tours; and ended on the steps of iconic Hallgrimskirkja cathedral, overlooking the old part of town.
Along the way, she regaled us with stories of important people in Iceland's past and present, revealed intimate details like the spot in Parliament's garden where one can take a lunch break, and pointed out places to shop, eat, and spend a bit more time. It really was like strolling around with a friend.
This tour was the PERFECT start to our vacation! We finished it knowing our way around Reykjavik and well-prepared for the rest of our stay!

The walking tour was really great and it was my first tour the day I landed in Iceland (Reykjavik).
Our guide was very knowledgeable and showed the city around of all the important places and told the history of Iceland.
Also provided with stays and suggestions on shopping and eatary places too.
Would highly recommend if you are on the first day of the trip for few hours and explore other destinations within Iceland.

What a wonderful tour we had on Saturday, June 19, with Stefan! He was extremely knowledgeable and gave us quite an overview on Reykjavik, with some added personal experiences. Stefan was friendly, yet professional. Our favorite parts of the tour were our “Viking” arriving on a electric scooter 😀, and the stories about the elves (Yes, we believe). W’d highly recommend this tour for anyone who would enjoy learning the history of this lovely city.

My husband and I had a great morning with Bardi as he took us round Reykjavik. Bardi is an excellent guide and storyteller. We learnt so much as we walked round and even managed to see a rehearsal for a concert. The tour was very interesting and entertaining and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this as part of a visit to this amazing and fascinating city.

This was an excellent introduction tour to Reykjavík and Iceland in general. Only lasts about 2 hours or so and the guide simply takes you walking around to show you the main points of interest in Reykjavik. It’s exactly what we wanted to do and our guide Oli was a superb tour guide. He did a great job taking us to all the planned stops and talking to us about Reykjavík, its history, and about Iceland in general while also pointing out to us some good food spots or other places to check out later. This was a solid 5 out of 5 experience for us, it was exactly what we were looking for and I highly recommend this as a introduction type of activity for anyone on their first day in Reykjavík.

We did this on the evening of the day we arrived and it proved to be an invaluable experience. Our guide was the fabulous 'Bo'. We learnt so much about the history of Reykjavik from him, as well as being provided with some great tips on places to eat and to visit while we were in the city. No question was left unanswered, it was quite simply fascinating. During the 2 hours Bo told us stories about the history, the people and shared facts in an entertaining and often humorous way to make everything really interesting. We'd definitely recommend this excellent tour to anyone visiting Reykjavik and, if possible, make it your starting point because what you'll learn will help you make more of your time there.

My friend is specifically interested in Viking history. The tour is called "Walk with a Viking" but in reading reviews, I'm not seeing any mention of Viking history being included in the tour. Is there any? Is it a focus of the tour? Thanks!

Hi JimandMarty. I don’t think that the tour particularly focussed on this, sorry.

Looking at your walking tour on September 7. We are staying at the Arctic Comfort Hotel. How would we get to the starting-point for the Walking Tour? Is it close to the hotel? How should we dress for the Walking Tour? What is the weather like in early September? Thank you.
