Exhausting bus trip - far from an adventure
Nov 2019
A coupe of points to have in mind before you book:

1. Exhausting bus trip (14-16 hours day trip from Reykjavik).
2. Landmarks full of other tourist groups arriving simultaneously. Made the whole experience feel very much like you're in a low rent film. (Wouldn't surprise me if I was visiting the Colosseum in Rome but one would expect a more authentic experience in Iceland)
3. Rent a car if you're over 1.85cm tall (6') as you simply will not fit in the Mercedes people carrier buses they use.
4. Semi-apocalyptic scenery outside the bus not the best for crunching miles anyway.
5. In a nutshell don't be swayed by the fantastic Instagram photos. Either rent a car and do your own sightseeing or book something more private and definitely more interactive.
6. The driver I believe was trying his - almost -best but again I feel there is a lack of professionalism other well established tourist destinations have at hand.
7. Could be dangerous at times (night time with limited light / icy roads / extreme winds). I feel they should emphasize more on this. Anyone with children should be aware of this.

South Coast - A Highlight of Iceland
Jul 2019
This tour is a must do. The South Coast was in my view, the most scenic part of the country. This tour includes sights of volcanoes, waterfalls, glaciers, boat trip (additional cost but worth it), black stone beach, puffins and much more. Its a long day but the sightseeing is sensational. Our tour guide, Jacob, made the day much more enjoyable with his local knowledge and had even made a play list of Icelandic music for the drive. A wonderful day and greatly enjoyed!

Amazing Trip
Tomas our guide from Poland was fantastic. He was very well informed and friendly and had a great sense of humor. The tour was so much fun. We saw the waterfalls and black sand beach and went to a glacier. Everything was incredibly gorgeous. Freezing cold but worth it. Comfortable bus ride. Highly recommend and very reasonable.

Amazing Views, Beauitful Excursion - HOWEVER -> DO NOT BOOK WITH ARCTIC ADVENTURES
Jan 2019 • Couples
The excursion scenery itself is fantastic and great. We could not have asked for better sights.

However, my husband and I booked this Small-Group Day trip where they crammed 20 people into a tiny bus. They should have only allowed for 15-16 max so people could sit comfortably.

We were one of the last ones picked up so we got put at the back of the bus where the seats are raised and you cannot see out the windows properly. The guide advised that half the group would be dropped off to do the glacier walk(which we were not doing part of ours). If this was the case then a separate bus should have been dispatched for the 11 people.

To top it off our tour guide barely spoke the whole trip and when he did it was very low and almost completely inaudible. I knew this was not normal as the day before my husband and i took the Golden Circle trip with a separate tour company and they were very engaged and talkative that whole excursion.

By the end of the excursion my back was in so much pain from being squished.

I would recommend anyone to take in the sights of the south shore but dont be fooled by the offerings of Arctic Adventure and their "Small-Group" day trip.

I would never book with Arctic Adventures again when we return to Iceland.

Great trip but very long day
Sep 2018 • Couples
Both tour guides, Norris and Yannis were awesome! However, we had a little problem at Jokulsarlon boat tour with two people not having tickets for the boat ride and they claim they purchased it but both Arctic Adventure and the boat tour company has no records of it. So this made us spend more time at the glacier lagoon so they can do the tour. This resulted in us not having enough time to see Black Sand Beach and Skogafoss during daylight. We still stopped at both locations for a few minutes but it was pitch black so we didn't really see anything. Overall it was fun, drivers were accommodating and amazing scenery!

A great way to see the South Coast!
Dec 2018 • Friends
A great way to see the sites along the South Coast! Even with limited daylight in December, we got to see a LOT and the time spent at each location was satisfactory.

We stopped at:
- A gas station - For snacks and a bathroom break
- Seljalandsfoss waterfall - Have waterproof gear on/handy! Lots of spray at this waterfall and you can walk around the back side of it!
- A quick stop where Eyjafjallajökull volcano erupted in 2010
- Skógafoss waterfall
- Sólheimajökull glacier - we did not walk on the glacier, just to a spot nearby to see it
- Black Sand Beach and Reynisdrangar - my favorite!
- Sunset over Vik
- Fnished with a mall of sorts with gift shops and cafes. Great for a meal and souvenir shopping

Tour guide was very chatty, informative, and really made the day a fun one! You do have a long drive back to Reyk at the end of the day. If you get car sick, take your Dramamine!

Great Locations, Terrible Tour
Dec 2018 • Couples
We departed for this tour near our hotel in Reykjavik and stopped about six times on the way to Vik. The attractions we saw were beautiful and I have no qualms about that. The tour bus was as comfortable as it can be for a long ride, the trip was priced fairly, and our guide did a good job driving.
Unfortunately, there is much more to complain about than praise about this trip. Our guide was silent most of the time, only offering a brief fact about each stop or to whine about the weather he would be driving in the next day.
The first stop was at N1 in Hvolsvöllur to use the bathroom (first pickup was only 1.5 hours earlier), which was only fifteen minutes away from Seljalandsfoss.
Seljalandsfoss, the second stop, had just as many bathrooms (with a much shorter line) and an small cafe, so I don't understand why we spent almost a half hour at a gas station.
The third stop was the Skógafoss waterfall, which we had just enough time to climb the stairs to the overlook. By our guide's standards, if you chose to walk up the stairs there wasn't enough time to visit the bathroom/coffee shop.
Nearby was the Sólheimajökull glacier, where we needed to drop off someone in time for their glacial hike. When we arrived our guide nearly ran to a spot in which we could see the glacier and told us to come back to the bus immediately after taking a picture. Someone on our tour started to walk down the hill to get a picture and he began yelling at her, before running back to the bus again.
Our time at Reynisfjara beach actually felt reasonable.
The final time we were let off of the bus for the day was at Vik to see the church and shopping center. We spent way too much time there, as everyone that wanted to buy food had already done so at earlier stops. It was nice, but an unnecessary amount of time for a tour focused on nature. After this point, it was a solid three hours sitting on the bus driving or waiting to pickup someone at the glacier. (It would have been nice to stop at that N1 in Hvolsvöllur on the way to Reykjavik at the end of the day...)
Although, the worst part of the entire experience was watching how poorly a woman was treated while she was dealing motion sickness. Our guide wouldn't let her step off the bus for a few minutes, even though we were ahead of schedule. She was told she would need to get a taxi to her hotel if she left the bus or to just wait it out until her drop off location. It was unacceptable and needed to be handled completely differently.

If you are interested in a tour along the South Coast of Iceland, I would HIGHLY recommend booking with one of the many other companies that follow a similar itinerary.

Dear Raechel359, First of all, I would like to thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us. We do put great value on feedbacks as yours as they help us to maintain and improve, if necessary, the service offered to our customers. We are happy to read that you enjoyed the locations you visited but truly sorry to hear that the tour, the guide, and the schedule did not meet your expectations. However, the guide needs to follow a specific itinerary and driving regulations in regards to breaks during the tour. From your review we can see that the experience you had did not meet our guidelines and we would like to look further into this. If possible, please send us an email at info@adventures.is and our customer service team will look into what went wrong. We sincerely apologize that your experience with us wasn't a positive one. We do however hope that you enjoyed your overall stay here in Iceland. Best regards, Arctic Adventures

Remarkably awful experience!
Dec 2018 • Couples
My group of four just arrived home from the Arctic Adventures: South Shore Adventure today, booked through Extreme Iceland. This is the first negative review I've ever written on vacation, for some perspective. We were extremely disappointed with our tour guide (Jun, I think pronounced "Jin") and most aspects of our tour.

1. First of all, let's get it out of the way: A woman was car sick on our bus as we were back to Reykjavik, dropping people off. In spite of being totally on time, our driver told her not to leave the bus, even briefly, in spite of the fact she was about to throw up. He scolded her, which was rude and awful. Next thing you know, yep, she's puking in the back into a plastic bag. IN SPITE OF THAT he still doesn't let her step off the bus at the next stop to use the bathroom (which he had promised to let her do!) and forces her to carry her bag, full of vomit, back to the middle of the bus. Sitting in the front, I objected and said our bus would probably be happy to wait at least 5 minutes like any decent person would but he said no. Everyone on the bus was horrified (at his behavior — not at her — everyone has been there, motion sickness is the absolute worst!)

2. Part of the reason I booked this trip at all was that it advertised time spent at Sólheimajökull Glacier. In spite of taking over an hour seeing two waterfalls and a long stop at a shopping center in Vik, we only stopped at the glacier for 10 minutes. Literally. He got us out of the card, scolding about being in a hurry, marched us to a mediocre viewpoint and told us to be back at the bus in 10 minutes, 5 of which it took to walk back to the bus. Ridiculous.

3. Mostly, our guide was extremely unfriendly ON TOP of having very little knowledge of the sights to share. Everything we were told was superficial first-paragraph of Wikipedia type information that anyone with common sense would know... no geological, Icelandic or deep commentary whatsoever And absolutely no friendliness or joking. Most of the time the tour guide was silent and scowling, though he went to great lengths to threaten us to not be late back to the bus and not to leave "rubbish" in the car and telling us to hurry and not take our jackets off — a command, not a suggestion. I get that these tours run on a set schedule, but wow, this was ridiculous — really felt actively rushed and took extra time in the wrong places. That was 80% of his commentary for the entire thing. I never want to be ordered to not take my g-dd-mn jacket off again!

Oh yeah and the lady throwing up being treated inhumanely incident. Pretty bad last impression of a tour company as you're exiting the bus. No one should waste an entire 10+ hour day of their vacation with this lack of Icelandic insight, rushed over sights and actually cruel treatment. What a bummer!

Highly recommend the South Coast Tour
The small group, South Coast tour with Artic Adventures was a fantastic experience. Monica was our guide for the day. She arrived on time and made our experience worthwhile.

The drive to the South Coast of Iceland is very scenic and beautiful. The small group bus is comfortable and there’s WiFi available if you need it.

The sites we visited: Reynisfjara beach, the town of Vik, Skógafoss waterfall, and Seljandfoss waterfall were all stunning and unique. We were also able to see a glacier. There was plenty of time at each stop to take in the views and grab a bite to eat/drink if needed. We‘re glad to have experienced this South Coast adventure.
